I see many people are seeing 'Lexmas' as the "rise" of the "evil lex" and that with his rejection of this chance the spirit or memory of his Mother, or perhaps (and more likely) Lex's own heart, was the last chance he had to step away from his destined path.
(sigh) I'm not sure how the producers will deal with this BUT for this show to be worth anything there must always, ALWAYS be the chance for redemption for Lex.
If Lex becomes the 1970's comic book version of his character then Mike Rosenbaum might as well just send a cardboard cut out to the set and stay in his trailer.
Yeah, in the end there is only one destiny for Lex Luthor: Madness, insanity and rage against everything that stands for what he has lost.
BUT for now.. for this one brief moment in time Lex could step away from this path, change his destiny.
At this point in his life Lex still has the chance of redemption and still has a choice...
Thanks to Mike Rosenbaum's fantastic performance of Lex I have come to take a completely new look at the character and find all the other portrayals lacking.. I fear even Kevin Spacy will leave me wanting..
My heartfelt dream is for Clark to somehow save him, to some way save Lex from his fate. It's a nice dream isn't it? Hope against what we know must be....
For the producers to let Lex's decent into hell go full throttle at this point would be as big a mistake as they've made having Clark and Lex be "enemies" in the last season or so. Perhaps before the decent they'll have them patch things up so that our loss of Lex to his dark destiny is shown as big a tragedy as it should be. This should be a deep pain that Clark will carry with him for the rest of his days--- that he couldn't save his best friend from his fate.
It was so nice to see Lex happy, wasn't it? To see who he could be... what he could be.. that he didn't have to follow destiny?
I'll consider those brief shining moments to be my 'Lexmas' gift this year.
