Wow...
Lex decides to be a baddie because as a goody-good his wife dies giving birth to their child.
Wow...
:in Yoda speak:
Right you are. Coincidence it's not.

LAMEST EXCUSE EVER!!
Lex becoming evil should have nothing to do with Lana. It is due to the fact that it is his nature and that is ultimately who he is. It has nothing to do with Lana.

That is exactly what I thought. Why does it always have to be about a woman

Maybe if we say it enough times it will be true, because I've been hoping for so long for it to be true. I was too hopeful. They ignored two things I was hoping they wouldn't do with Lex's downfall, featuring Lana prominently in it and actually for an adult holding him accountable for his choices. Instead they make excuses for him and set up some idiotic alternate dream that goes wrong.
For the love of god.
No wonder the writers keep bringing up Anakin's downfall in relation to Lex, they are practically ripping off the fundamentals of his story. And you know when that story has just been told this summer, there's no way you are going to avoid the comparisons. Jeeze. Although at least Anakin and Padme were in love and it was the depth of their love that caused Anakin's downfall and led to Padme giving up her will to live, in a way the love they had for each other was too all-encompassing. On this show what we have is one man's continuing love/obsession for a teenage girl (and it's been like this since she was 10? 14?, gosh), who is just blissfully unaware of it all. It's not even freaking mutual, not yet anyway.
Now I shall go and ponder why I love Anakin and his fall was extremely sad for me, when all can feel is high indifference for Lex and his Lana/Love pity party. Lex's story used to be complex, but since the S3 finale it's just been one long devolvement for me. It's too inconsistent for me to acre anymore, they go back and forth with him so much, you barely know where the evil and bad starts. One moment he's doing something completely reprehensible like torturing others, being prepared to let a young girl die (until Lana's name was mentioned), taking advantage of a supposed friends amnesia, setting psychos on him and his family just for his secret and the next it's back to poor Lex, let's pity him, cause everyone he loves dies. Really none of it is ever his fault, despite anything he does. I'm now completely desensitised.
So (although I'm almost afraid to say this, incase I jinx it), can I at least still look forward to Clark's story and future still being about the choices? Without Lana or anyother character having anything to do with it.

Agreed, Anakin in the begining joined The Dark Side to save his wife from Dying in Childbirth, But then his Ego got the best of him, and he realized he wanted Power to control The Galaxy.
Lex's makes The choice to give up the good life, because his Wife is dying in childbirth ,and because he doesn't have the power/Money to save her. he's willing to give up that life to have Money & power to control the world .

Okay, people. Maybe y'all don't think love is an important enough reason to turn someone to the dark side, but it has been happening for thousands of years. In fact, truth to tell, it would probably over the course of history be the NUMBER ONE reason people of both genders cross over to bada**ness.

That doesn't change the fact that they ripped off practically the EXACT scenario from Star Wars.
Either way you shake it... if you don't like the story, or if you just don't like the fact that it's blatantly ripped off... it's still lame.

OMG! Anikin Luthor is right! Although, in this case its a little different. Anikin seeks power to protect those he loves. Lex, I believe, is now seeking power to protect himself. It's a losing battle. He will never become someone Lana can love. There might be a middle ground he could walk and still be a man of integrity that Lana wants and still hold enough wealth and power to protect his loved ones, but Lex will probably not take it. Ever since he was split into "Good Kirk" and "Bad Kirk", and was combined again, "Bad Kirk" has been winning out in Lex's newly combined psyche. In any event, the canon of the DC universe is that Lex Luthor becomes a detestible human being. It's his destiny. Poor b*****d.

lex's decision was influenced by Lana but he knows he will probably never get Lana now. He gave up Lana for the power and security he can have.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one who thought of Anakin.
