Favorite character : Al Calavicci ( Dean Stockwell)

Favorite Episodes : Leap Home PTS 1 & 2, Justice, Unchained, 3 Evil Leaper episodes, Shock Theater, Glitter Rock, Play Ball, Roberto, Curse of Ptah Hotep, Temptation Eyes, Good Morning Peoria, Trilogy PTS 1-3, Killin Time, Poolhall Blues, Another Mother, Rebel Without a Clue, Camikazi Kid, The Boogieman, Raped, Animal Frat, Ghost Ship, A Little Miracle, Dr. Ruth, The Wrong Stuff, Memphie Melody, Mirror Image, and A Leap for Lisa.

Favorite Seasons : 1 -5

Jumped the shark : Never did. In fact, it was taken off the show too early in my opinion. It could have gone on for another 2 or 3 seasons.

Overall thoughts on the show :

Quantum Leap is my favorite TV Show of all time. With the acception of a few episodes, I loved every single episode that was ever put out. Scott Backula and Dean Stockwell had some of the best on air chemistry that I have ever seen, and Al Calavicci is one of the best characters ever created. Every episode was extremely well done in recreating the time period, and there were great guest appearances from tons of stars. This show had it all - an original sci-fi take on time travel, comedy, drama, action, horror, and romance. My only beef with the show overall was how it ended. It offered a cliffhanger with Sam never returning home, and then the show was taken off the air. The biggest blunder ever by a network was canceling this show too early.

I used to watch as many episodes as I could, I liked Quantum Leap but I still regret the fact that I never saw the final episode...
At first I was thrilled to hear that Scott Bakula would play Enterprise's Captain Archer because I loved the way he played Sam Beckett - Dean Stockwell also did a great job, I liked the way they had to work together to accomplish each of Sam's "missions". But now that I read about Enterprise, and it's not getting very good reviews, I decided not to watch. Heck, I'm not even sure whether it's on TV over here, I know they are going to show it, gotta check out the TV guide!

After all these years I still remember the theme song.

I love this show!. I think i've seen every episode. And i agree with the chemistry between Scott and Dean.

Favourite episodes?... Shock Theatre is one of them, and Trilogy is another. It's been a while since i saw an episode though they're repeated regularly on Satellite TV in the UK.

I loved this show, too. It came along at a time when the trend for sci-fi shows to be as much about the characters and relationships as about FX, action, and cool gadgets was really getting started.

There's actually been some talk about a possible QL movie...which I guess there always is when a show continues to be popular after cancellation. Although I suppose a movie was more likely before SB started doing ENTERPRISE.

I too love Quantum Leap. And I loved the finally, it's not that Sam couldn't come home, it's he decided not to, feeling that he could help more people leaping. And a movie would be awesome. Scott could shoot it in the hiatus they have during the summer from enterprise.

Favorite episode M.I.A. when Sam leaps into the life of a undercover cop, Al explains that his mission is to convince a navy nurse her MIA husband is still alive, and wants Sam to prevent her from marrying a lawyer she meets on the day Sam leaps in. But a series of coincidences causes Sam to wonder about the true nature of his mission. Turns out the nurse is Al's wife Beth. Heartbreaking episode. Although I was disappointed by the series finale, I was happy to see Sam reunite Al and Beth in the end.

My favorite episode is the one where Sam got zapped mid-leap and, as a result, kept switching between the personalities of people he'd leaped into. Unfortunately, he leaped into a mental hospital, and they thought he had multiple personalities. That's also the ep where Al does the alphabet song, which was cute.

Now, I hate it when any show but STAR TREK has the narration during the opening credits. I hated it on TARZAN (a show I didn't like) and even BUFFY (a show I loked). In my opinion, you can't top the TREK speech, so why even try? But, for whatever reason, I liked it on QL. I mean, it wasn't, "To boldly go where no one has gone before," but "Striving to put what what once went wrong. And hoping each time that his next leap would be the leap home," was pretty darned good, IMO.

I loved this show! Mind you, I only got around to watching it when repeats were on the Space Channel :p My favourite episode had to be the one where Sam lept into the space monkey :p That was great.

Its funny, I just told some people the other day that this was my favorite series of all time. I think it was one of the best shows on the air. Both of the main characters were perfect and the plots every week were the best and most original I had ever seen at that time. Nothing will replace its uniqueness for me.

I have to say, I am so disappointed in Enterprise. At first, I was so excited that Scott was going to play the captain but the writing on that show is so bad, that even a die hard Star Trek fan like myself can't bring themselves to watch it. I know the ratings are really poor and there is a reason for that. Poor Scott. Not even his presence can give that lame duck a boost.

I LOVE Quantum Leap! But as far as I know the Space Channel doesn't give us repeats anymore :( My favourite episodes are The Leap Home (both parts) and that trilogy following that girl's life.

Oh, as for Enterprise, I still watch it. But I'm not getting excited over any new episodes, and I would pick Smallville over Enterprise any day.

I LOVED this show when it was on! I even have the soundtrack! It's a great soundtrack, and Scott is a great singer. Unfortunately, I have the audio cassette version. But when I was working at Barnes and Noble a little over a year ago, they had the CD version, so I guess they're still making it! I gotta get it sometime and replace the stupid cassette. The final episode was awesome! And I always loved the Halloween episode where he faces the devil, and you find out at the end that the kid was Steven King, although anyone who knows about Steven King's childhood knows it couldn't possibly have been him, ha. I probably have other favorite eps that I can't remember, and there may have been a couple eps I didn't like, but in general, I loved it! At the time it was my favorite show I think.

Here is a question you have to think about. Sam was responsible for showing the moonwalk to Michael Jackson as a kid, giving Stephen King many of his ideas, teaching Buddy Holly the words to Peggy Sue, and telling Slyvester Stallone about punching beef to train, which Stallone would later use in Rocky. Would Michael Jackson, Stephen King, Buddy Holly, and Slyverster Stallone come up with these ideas, if Sam had never traveled back in time? Or, did he simply help them to discover things much earlier than they originally would have?

So, Sam Beckett may have done more than just put right what went wrong. He may have helped shape certain aspects of pop culture as well.

slave2moonlight

He must have just helped them come up with the ideas earlier, since he didn't have the ideas originally, but rather, brought them from the future after seeing them done by those people.

I think 'Quantum Leap' is my all-time favorite show. I've had this intrest in time traveling since the summer of 1985 when I saw 'Back to the Future'. I love every episode. The only one I hate is the one with Bob Sagat (Full House). The man is not funny.

My all-time fav episodes are: Genesis, A leap between States (Civil War), the last episode, when Sam and Al switch places, when Sam leaps into Al as young man, Evil Leaper, and Trilogy are on the top of my list.
They really need to get the shows on DVD. I'll pay good money for them.

I loved this show so much! I would like to see it on DVD. I would definitely go for it!

I cried like a baby at the final episode. I couldn't believe it! Sam never went home!!!!

It was nice to have reunited Al and Beth. But did anyone besides me feel bad for poor Donna!!?? Donna wasn't supposed to have become his wife until he changed the past. And so not only was she condemned to wait for him forever, she had to watch him fall in love with another woman practically every single episode!!

(Funny fact: Donna was played by Teri Hatcher...And they say it's a small world!) :)

There is a rumor that Quantum Leap will be coming to DVD by the end of 2004. I really hope this is true, because Quantum Leap would be awesome on DVD. I really want to catch the original episodes that were shown on NBC, because the only episodes I have seen on a regular basis were the syndicated ones on the Sci-Fi channel. When it first came on NBC, I was only 9 years old.

Sam wasn't being punished. He chose to spend his life helping others. They had a line in that ep that talked about how one life touches another in somewhat of a endless cycle. It was goodwill towards humanity on Sam's part. A total selfless act.

Dannyblue1

Yeah. Al the Bartender told Sam he could have leaped home at any time. But something inside him wanted to keep leaping and helping others, even though he was homesick. So he was the one who made the choice to keep leaping in the last episode.

Here's some trivia. We actually got close to having another season that took up where that last episode left off. In fact, I believe they re-shot some of that ep, to leave things more open-ended just in case NBC did green-light another season.

Yeah, this is what I said earlier on this page. The reason that only 9 episodes are being released, is because that is the amount of episodes there were in season 1. That is why I hope they release the rest of the show is 6 month increments. You can get the first season DVD set for 41.99 on Amazon with free shipping.

The link above gives the ep description. Sam thinks the bartender in the tavern is the guys who's been leaping him, but finds out he has been in control of his leaps and can stop at anytime, but he continues leaping helping others. Sam reunites Al with Beth his first wife and true love. Sam never returns home.

I loved the series but wasn't that crazy about the episode. Some points were confusing.

I liked Mirror Image up until the ending. Quantum Leap still had another couple of seasons in it easy, and the network pulled the plug far too early in my opinion. The ending would have made a good cliffhanger for a season finale, but not the end of the show. The thing I hate the most about TV shows, is when they end a show in a cliffhanger. The one thing everyone wanted, was for Sam to make it home. To end the show with Sam never going home sucked.

Some shows in the end don't always give the viewer what they wanted, yet still work. The Wonder Years was such a show. Kevin and Winnie didn't end up together and it was okay with me. It made it seem more realistic. Winnie was his first love and she would always hold a special place in his heart.

Quantum Leaps ending with Sam never going home was different. It sucked because he should have gone home. He had a wife who I'm sure missed him dearly. They even drove the point home that that was his desire from the start " ... and hoping each time that the next leap will be the leap home. "

Interesting thing is maybe he did leap home. The first episode of season three was called The Leap Home. When Sam leaped into himself as a teenager. Maybe that was their plans from the start

They could have just ended it with a "Sam eventually went home".
I mean, would it have been soooo difficult to, at least, give us a little bit of hope!?!

This was so frustrating! I understand that Sam made a magnificent sacrifice, but it simply broke my heart to know he'd never leap home. First of all, as I have already mentioned, because of his wife, but also because on top of that, he'd had to go on without Al.
I was just a kid when I watched this and I just couldn't understand this whole "for a greater cause" choice he made. That was so unfair!

I still get a little twinge in my heart when I think about this show... I usually try to forget this last episode ever occured.

I'm a huge QL fan!!!

I'm not sure if you guys know this but Sci-Fi is starting a new series based on the show.

The Pilot Premise:
Twenty years after the original series left Dr. Sam Beckett "leaping" into the great unknown, Sam is finally reunited with Al, his old mentor and "partner in time." But when circumstances beyond their control send Sam away once more, Al must recruit his lost friend's daughter to pick up where her father left off and hopefully help find Sam again in the process.

Mirror Image starts out with Sam seeing his own reflection in the mirror. Then through out the rest of the leap, he sees people from past leaps all under different identities, who have no idea who he is. The bartender who is also named Al, knows everything about Sam and the project, which makes Sam think he is God. The bartender reveals to Sam, that Sam controls his own destiny, and that he never allowed himself to return home because of all the people he had to save. Al the bartender asks Sam about Al, and what Sam and Al have been through. Sam then tells the bartender that even though Al has always been there for him, he could not help Al keep his first wife Beth because he always plays by the rules. Back in the future, Al and Gushy are having a hard time locating Sam. Sam then poses as a mine inspector to save a few miners that were trapped due to the result of a cave in. Sam was told to play the mine inspector by a second leaper. The second leaper vanishes after the two miners are saved, and no one but Sam and Al the bartender remember him. Al finally locates Sam, and the two head outside.

Sam tells Al that he thinks the bartender is God, and all about the second leaper and how his name is Stawpaw. Then Al tells Sam about how he had an uncle with the same name. When Sam begins to laugh at the conicendence, Al goes back to the future to see how he can get Sam out of there. As the episode is winding down, Al the bartender comes outside to talk to Sam. He tells Sam that future leaps will get a lot tougher, and asks Sam what he wants to do. Sam says he wants to go home, but he can't because he has a right that he has to put wrong for Al. Sam then leaps into the home of Al's first wife Beth and tells her that Al is alive and that he is coming home from Vietnam. The camera zooms in on a picture of Al, and then we see the blue light that comes from a leap and the picture fades to black. We then learn that Beth never remarried, and that Al now has four daughters. The episode ends saying that Sam Beckett never returned home.

I thought this would be a good thread to start now considering the release of the Quantum Leap season 2 DVD on Dec. 14, 2004. I'm obsessed with this show. What are your favorite episodes? Mine are:

1. Killing Time (Sam leaps into a gunman keeping a mother and daughter hostage in their own house- he tells them his real identity to make them trust him)

2. The Leap Home, Part One (Sam leaps into his 14-year-old self on the family farm- only epi that ever made me cry when he sang "Imagine" to his little sister)

3. The Leap Back (Sam and Al switch places and Sam is able to spend time with his wife back at Project Quantum Leap)

4. Shock Theater (Sam undergoes Electro-shock therapy and relives some of his past leaps)

I also like the ones with the evil leapers and when Sam leaps into women! Fun stuff! :D

Quantum Leap is my all time favorite show. I have loved it since the very first episode and there has never been, and will never be a show that is as good. Smallville runs a close second, but even Smallville can't hang with QL.

My TOP 10 Episodes

1) The Leap Home PT 1 - The best episode of the show and one of the best hours of television to ever air. Even though Sam was not technically home, I loved getting to see him get to live out his life when he was 16, and try to change his own family's life for the better.

2) The Leap Back - The infamous episode where Sam and Al switch places. I love watching Al as a leaper and Sam finally gets to go home, even if it is only for an instant. There was only one thing wrong with this episode. In the first season, we are introduced to the woman that will be Sam's wife. The character is played by Teri Hatcher. In The Leap Back, Sam is finally united with his wife Donna. But the character was played by a different actress which pissed me off.

3) The Boogieman - Man I love this episode. Sam leaps into a mystery writer named Joshua Ray and must prevent the murder of Josh's girlfriend. You also get to see Stephen King as a teenager and Sam keeps using King's stories as references to the strange events that are happening. Then they play it off like Sam gave King some of his ideas. Also, seeing the Devil impersonating Al gets me everytime.

4) Justice - Sam leaps into a member of the Klu Klux Klan, and must force himself to fit in, in order to prevent the murder of a civil right's worker.

5) Glitter Rock - The episode where Sam leaps into the lead singer of a heavy metal band, who is going to be murdered. He must discover the identity of his killer and stop him. The music kicks ass in this episode, and it is suspenseful. I also love the fact that the band is modeled after KISS.

6) Deliver Us From Evil - The first and best Evil Leaper episode.

7) Good Morning Peoria - Sam leaps into the body of a rock n roll DJ in the 1950's and must fight to keep his boss's radio station in business when the town elders try to shut it down due to the fact they hate rock music. There is some great 50's songs in this episode.

8) Another Mother - Sam leaps into the body of a single mother raising three kids. The youngest daughter can see Al and Sam, and Sam also must prevent the woman's son from going missing.

9) Unchained - Sam leaps into a member of a chain gang and must prevent the murder of a fellow chain gang member when he tries to escape. He also must work to prove the member's innocence as well, because the person who really committed the crime the guy is convicted for, is one of the guards on the chain gang.

10) The Curse of Ptah-Hotep - Sam leaps into an Egyptologist named Dale Conway in Egypt exploring the pyramids. This episode kicks ass because I love the fact that it deals with Egypt, the pyramids, a mummy, and an ancient curse that may or may not be responsible for all of the mysterious deaths that are occuring around camp.

I ll also like Quantum Leap,it s a show that I also watched several years ago.

I loved the pair that was Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell,
they were really great! However now that I watch Star Trek:Enterprise with Scott as Captain Jhonathan Archer,
I miss Al!

However I really loved the rest of the Quantum Lep series,
there were some good moments in it...however I found the series finale weird.....Sam leaping into a bar with all of the people he rescued before...and as himself!

However the episodes in which he was a woman were great!

Also I remember the episode "Shock Theatre",that one was an episode in which Sam almost lost his mind and in the end,
he switched places with Al.....

Yes I want more Quantum Leap!!!!

Also,I am thinking the possibility of doing a croosover story

Can you imagine Sam leaping as Captain Jonathan Archer?!

My favourite episodes were "Shock Theater" and also the "Trilogy" eps where a little girl is accused of killing a young girl and Sam leaps into the little girl's father, the second one where he leaps into the now grown up girl's fiance (I forget her name) and the final one where he leaps into the lawyer who defends her in a murder trial. All three episodes were absolutely gripping with an amazing twist.

My favorites, continued:

5. The Color of Truth (Sam leaps into an old black man to stop the former mayor's wife from being hit by a train)

6. Another Mother (Sam leaps into a mother of three to save "her" son from being murdered and "her" little girl can see Sam and Al)

7. MIA (Great epi for insight into Al's past, I especially loved the scene where Al "dances" with his first wife, Beth)

8. Piano Man (Sam leaps into a lounge singer and we get to hear Scott Bakula's amazing voice, including a song he wrote himself called "Somewhere in the Night")

9. Permanent Wave (Sam leaps into a hairstylist who has to protect the witness to a murder- the kid is played by the guy on 3rd Rock from the Sun with the long hair)

10. Justice (Sam leaps into a new member of the KKK)

11. Nowhere to run (Sam leaps into a marine who has has his legs amputated to keep "his" room mate from commiting suicide and also save "his" marriage)

12. Deliver Us From Evil (First Evil Leaper episode!!! :))

13. Goodbye, Norma Jean (Sam leaps into Marilyn Monroe's Chaffeur)

14. The Leap Between the States (Sam leaps into his great grandfather during the Civil War to save the life of a slave)

15. Memphis Melody (Sam leaps into the king, Elvis Presley, and has to stop a female singer from marrying the wrong man and make sure Elvis gets discovered... this means more singing from Scott!!! :D)

16. Mirror Image (It's the last epi and Sam can finally see himself in the mirror again- What more can I say?)

I agree that the episode is good. But didn't it piss you off about the ending that they gave us? After watching loyally for five years, only to be told that Sam never returns home and then we are left with a black screen and a pic of Dean and Scott. Good episode, horrible ending.

From what I heard, they had to stick that ending in, because they originally planned to go with a sixth season, and the show was cancelled at the last minute. Originally, the cliffhanger was going to be Al becoming a leaper to find Sam, and his first leap was going to be into a woman, so that he could feel how the other half live so to speak. That would have been awesome. Al Callavici is one of the biggest womanizers ever, and for him to become a woman and see how it feels to be hit on, would be so funny and entertaining.

Quantum Leap had at least two more seasons in it.

Al was the best character on the show. Scott Bakula did a very good job as Sam. I don't think anyone else could have pulled it off as well as he did. But Stockwell flat out owned as Al. I often feel that he was underated because so many people focused on Bakula.

EDIT : Meant to say "underated". When I was saying overated I was thinking of Bakula.

I don't know how it's possible to overrate Al. It was a team show. Al and Sam were both integral to each other. Sam ight have ben leaping, but he'd have been completely lost without Al. A point they were gonna try to make entirely clear in season five as i understood it. Al was equal with Sam. Sam was the hero, Al was the man. Al was who we identified witht eh msot, cause Al was just like us, he was one of the boys. Sam was too good to be true.

I saw this rumour posted here, that Quantum Leap is coming back again next year??? Does anyone know if that is true? It will be so cool if it is. I just hope they put Scott Bakula back in the role if they do and don't replace him with some unknown!

Also, I don't know if you all knew this already, but amazon.com are also selling the Season 2 DVD now. It was released in December... I missed that, thought maybe other's may have too? Hope that means we'll get it in the U.K. soon!

Claire,

There is going to be a return movie.

Depending on how well the movie does, they might bring back a returning series. Now that Enterprise has been canceled, Scott Bakula may be able to be more involved. I am hoping that it comes back with a series, because it truly is my favorite show of all time.

I also agree that, although the final episode was excellent, the ending was horrible.I had hoped to see more leaps...
The fact that they inserted the picture of Sam and Al at the end,
it almost made me cry. However why didnt Sam returned?I found that ending with Sam lost in time unfair after all the good that he did....However it s good to know that a sequel is in the works!

He wasnt lost in time, it was explained in the finale that if sam truley wished to go home at any time, he could. He chose not to come back. The ending was to show his greater commitment to helping others out than to giving himself a happy ending.

tomwellingfanatic
02-15-2005, 07:31 PM
I think it was his subconscious wish to help that was causing him to not leap back, or at least that's how i understood it. I think he really did want to go home, but couldn't.

i miss ziggy and gushi, and al and sam, i liked when he had to help his fiancee study for the bar exam ,and then she turned out to be the judge that granted further monies to support project quantum leap until al could bring sam home. i liked when al danced with his girlfriend even though he was in the future and she the past. I liked the evil turned good leaper, zoe? was her name? I liked how her leaps were part of a corporations' experiment? and it wasn't explained when or where they were from, that was cool when i think about it still, meeting another time traveller in the past. I liked how when al and sam switched in one episode and al was the leaper, and at the end sam had to say goodbye to his wife, and when he arrived to the past he had a moment right before his memory faded and as it faded the music indicated how lonely he must be to not even remember that he is lonesome. damn that show was good. I liked how he had a choice when he met "the bartender", who could have been god, if you believed in such a force, because sam hypothesized that ziggy had some help in randomly choosing his targets for leaping. The choice was to continue on to some higher plane or go back and from what i can piece together from the last episode, sam chose to move forward, which is a parable found in some books, i.e., jonathan livingston seagull, and siddhartha, and in that movie defending your life , or made in heaven. I like to think there are higher planes of existence, and if they have a connection to this world in someway, that would be cool too.

Ok,I dont know how many of you bought the Quantum Leap
season 2 DVD set...but it comes with a problem. The DVD is badly recorded...You see,I was watching the episode
What Price Gloria? in which Sam leaps as a woman....
And to my surprise, the episode isnt even complete,it starts in the middle of it,without the prologue and title music.....

And in the moment of more suspense, the DVD began to fail and then nothing,I couldnt finished watching it.

This is the first time that I buy a DVD in which is faulty.

So if any of you had already bought the Quantum Leap season 2 DVD set,be careful...I bought this DVD at a local store and it is the first time that I have problems.....

So, did you had problems with the Season 2 Quantum Leap
DVD set?

What to do when a DVD fails?

The thing that pisses me off the most is that they took out Georgia on my Mind in MIA. I hate that they cannot get the music rights to certain songs on shows now that they want to put the shows on DVD. What I don't understand, is that since they already got the rights to air it on TV the first time around, why do they need permission again? It does not seem right. The song is what made the scene, and the scene seemed empty without it.

Also I dont understand why the episode What Price Gloria?
was incomplete.I tried to look for the first chapter of the
episode, but no way,it just started in the middle.

I remember how this particular episode began....Sam leapt and then he found himself in a bath tub....and then he has the shock of his life when he sees his image in the mirror and discovers that he is a gorgeous woman! This is missing from the DVD also.

My guess is that Universal was in a rush or something because they couldnt get the season 2 realese fine....

They should rerealese season 2 again!!

Is this a problem everyone is experiencing with this episode or do you perhaps have a damaged/scratched disc Shinzon??? It might be worth you checking your disk for any visible scratches, sometimes even a light scratch can damage the layer it is trying to read on the DVD and it can skip over the damaged area or stop playing altogether. I don't have this DVD as it hasn't been released in the UK yet, but it seems a bit odd that they would make a DVD and chop the episode up deliberately, especially the beginning and the end??? It might be worth you calling the helpline or contacting whoever you bought the DVD from and telling them it appears not to play the whole episode and see if they can help you.

My baby son recently got hold of one of my DVD's and managed to scratch the disk, so I played it to check for damage. I sighed relief after watching half the film thinking it was playing ok, but then it just stopped and said that it could not read the disk and I couldn't play the rest, so I have no ending to the film now, all because of a small scratch. That's why I say check for any scratches first. If you find a scratch and you aren't responsible for it, just return the DVD to your supplier saying that when you opened it you found it scratched/damaged and it wouldn't play and they should exchange it for a new copy. It is basic consumer rights to return faulty merchandise, as long as it isn't your own fault.

It seem's unfair that you should have to buy a new set because of the faults... is there a helpline number or any way you can contact Universals DVD department and ask them about this??? I know we managed to get a number for the WB's DVD release department when we didn't have our booklet's in the Smallville set. Maybe Universal have a similar place you can contact?? Why should you pay out again if they are selling badly produced DVD's... they may even be unaware of the problem and they would be thankful if you told them and send you some goodies for letting them know maybe??? :p

I found this contact page on Universals site for you. It might be worth filling it in with your problem and see what they say?? Hope something works out for you!! http://www.universalstudios.com/homepage/html/contact_us/contact_form.cgi?email_id=10

It's because when they want to use a song, it's usually negotiated for syndication and things, but DVD is a whole different genre. They have to get the rights to use it on the DVDs because when shows like Quantum Leap came out, DVDs as we know weren't even thought of, so they couldn't clear DVD rights.

It's a long confusing process :\

This is still my favorite show of all time. I am downright obsessed with it. I have been since it aired.

Supposedly they were going to bring it back, but I don't know if that is going to happen. I know that Dean Stockwell said he was interested, and now that Enterprise is done with, Scott Bakula could return as well.

It never should have been canceled when it was. It had at least another two seasons left in it easily.

The premise for the season six opener was going to be Al becoming a leaper to find Sam, and Al's first leap was going to be leaping into a woman. This would have been awesome since Al was always such a ladies man, and he would have been able to experience it from the other side.

I wish that episode could have happened.

Anyone else remember this show? Sam Beckett (Scott Bakula) was a scientist who figured out he could "leap" back in time as far back as his birthday August 8th, 1953 by switching places with someone in the past through a government project. Once he fixed a problem, he "leaped" into another person's life trying to get back home. Meanwhile, Al , a Naval Admiral was able to appear as a hologram to Sam by giving him help from the future.

One of my alltime favorite shows. Not sure if a thread already exists out of the 17 pages. What do you remember about this show. Supposedly, a new series is in the planning stages for a return, plus there is a fan site that has 7 years of fan fiction on it.

Great show with great actors. One of if not the worst ending in television history though. It was memorable for that reason however. It was sad he didn't return home, but it is left open for fans to have whatever belief they wanted about what happened to him. Besides, who would have remembered that ending as well 10 years later if he had returned home?

Ruby Red

That was an episode, i forget which one (someone will enlighten me). I do remember seeing an episode where i think Sam leaps back and he discovers he's married (i could swear that Al was the leaper in this ep and Sam was doing Al's 'job'... could be wrong though) but when the series finally wrapped up, we found out that Sam never leaped home which was kind of bittersweet.

TMLS
01-25-2006, 12:44 AM
That'd be the first episode of Season 4, "The Leap Back". At the end of season 3, when Sam leaped a lightning bolt struck Sam and the hologram of Al as Sam leaped.

They leaped together to 1945 only to find that they had switched places, with Al being the leaper and Sam the hologram.

Sam was married to Donna, who was played by Teri Hatcher in the first season but a different actress here, and he found out he was married to her which he'd forgotton due to his swiss-cheesed memory.

The series ended at the end of series 5 when Sam leapt into himself on his birthday, the mirror image was his own. He meets someone who may or may not be God who convinces Sam that he was leaping himself all along, and Sam leaps out of his own accord to a point of his own choosing - to the end of the Season 2 episode "MIA", where he tells Al's wife that Al is a prisoner and not dead so that she waits for him.

This set up a potential season 6, where Sam would be leaping on his own, without Al. But the plug was pulled so the narration that he "never leapt home" was added.

There's a website called QuantumLeap-Al'sPlace that has Virtual Seasons picking up where Mirror Image ended. Right now they are on Season 12. One season, I wrote a fan fic there for a 12 story arc (like Enterprise Season 3 did except here terrorists try to gain knowledge of the Project) that allowed me to use the unaired alternate ending of the finale in which Sam is a few days ahead in the future as himself (not too far ahead tho like the script had) and has to do a Doc Brown type mission to go further ahead in time to backtrack a disaster that will happen in QL present day. Al knowing deep down that Sam is ahead in time leaps to the bartender (we had a previous story where Gooshie who was killed off when the actor who played him died came back from the dead to QL like Stawpah with the miners and updated Ziggy's files allowing a possible leap to AL the Bartender)... The bartender says if Al wants to join Sam he will be a leaper. AL agrees, and the bartender leaps him ahead... AS A WOMAN!!!
There are some real good stories in there. Another guy introduced a rogue leaper character who is neither good or bad but has his own agenda. Lot of authors focused on the characters at the project like Sam's daughter Sammy Jo, Donna the wife he left behind...

I love Quantum Leap, it has to be one of my all time favorite series. When I was a kid I used to pretend that I had the communication link.

I think my favorite episodes have to be (in no particuar order)

Genesis Parts 1&2
Double Identity
Honeymoon Express
Sea Bride
Another Mother
Camikazi Kid
The Leap Home Part 1
The Leap Home Part2
A Little Miracle
Shock Theater
The Leap Back
A Leap for Lisa
The Wrong Stuff
Lee Harvey Oswald
The Leap Between the States
and Mirror Image

I love time travel stories and the fact that he helped complete strangers with their lives as well as made a mark on some of the most interesting things to happen in real history.

I love Quantum Leap, I dont remember watching it when it originally aired (I dont know when it aired?) but, I always watch it in reruns and I have the DVDs. Season 1 I have with bonus features but, they're kind of like easter eggs & I havent found them all still. The other seasons are just the shows which is too bad because, I'd love an *official* explanation of the final episode. Maybe as a poster said previously, they had intended writing a sixth season but, the show was canceled (*gasp* why?) so they had to add the line about he never went home. But, I love the final episode and I love theorizing about it lol (I have no life)
QL is also great because, every episode was different. Sam was a different character every time. It was a brave concept because, the main character wasnt a main character in many ways because, the audience had to get to know a new main character in each episode. Sometimes it would even be a woman, which isnt exactly earth-shattering until you remember that the main character is a guy. It was a ground-breaking show, it was brave, it told difficult stories & won awards for that. It rocks :)

i think my favorite episode had to be the one where sam leaped into a writer and all these strange supernatural things start to happen around him. al shows up and tells him what he has to do. there's this kid named steve or stephen, i can't remember. then all these references to stephen king's book are done through out the episode. then at the end two al's show up and one of them is the real al and the other just might be the devil or something else. anyone remember that one? if that was the devil then that guy in "mirror image", the bartender, could have been god?
