I would have to say that the reason I started watching Smallville is because of the music. My Dad (who is very cool) started watching because one tuesday night he was flipping through channels and heard some excellent music on a show... that show turned out to be my favorite show on television... I love Smallville not only for the great story line and Lana Lang:cool: :p but for the great music they play...

Anyway, my question is, can anyone tell me if the song "dare you to move" by Switchfoot was ever on Smallville? I love the song and it sounds so damn familiar I am almost certain I heard it on Smallville... I know it wasn't the 3rd season but possibly the 2nd or 1st. If anyone does know, tell me. It would be greatly apreaciated thanks.

I know one song that should be a prominent feature on the show-or at least have been played already-

"Kryptonite", by 3 Doors Down!

Im not sure about that perticuliar song being a part of the show, But I do agree with you that the music makes the show. It sets an excellant tone for the scenes and creates a great atmosphere, i love the music of smallville!

I always wondered how they found the music...did they just know it???? or how? how do they know what songs would go good w/ a certain scene? i wish i knew all the music they know!!!!

The Music is the best part of the show, well apart from the show it's self. I think they pick just the right music to set the different moods. I especially liked the REM influenced eppisode very well done.

Hi all! I'm trying to put together a track list with all of the songs played on Smallville between Seasons 1-4 and so far in Season 5 as well as on both of the Smallville Soundtracks (The Talon and Metropolis Mixes). The purpose being, partially, just to have this entire track list. And partially, to have a list for putting together an Ultimate Smallville Music Collection for my personal use.

(Note to the mods: I'm only talking about using legal services like iTunes and buying CDs and singles, not illegal downloading, so please consider that if you're thinking about shutting this thread down).

(Note to posters: Please don't talk about illegal downloading or P2P programs here, I don't want this thread to get shut down before it even takes off.)

Now, I have a rather large list already which I will post below. What I'm looking for from the rest of you are tracks that I haven't listed. This will include several tracks from Seasons 1-3, and almost all of Season 4. And there were a few tracks from Season 5 that they've already played that I do not have listed because I got all of my Season 5 music off of the Metropolis Mix (which also means there are some songs they haven't even played yet on the list). Thanks in advance to anyone who provides me with information. Following is the list.

The Talon Mix
--------------

Remy Zero - Save Me

VonRay - Inside Out

Weezer - Island in the Sun

Five for Fighting - Superman

Ryan Adams - Nuclear

Phantom Planet - Lonely Day

The Flaming Lips - Fight Test

Sixpence None the Richer - Don't Dream It's Over

Depeche Mode - Precious

Lifehouse - You and Me

Stereophonics - Superman

The All American Rejects - Dirty Little Secret

Josh Kelley - Almost Honest

The Dandy Warhols - All the Money or the Simple Life Honey

Brendan Benson - Cold Hands (Warm Heart)

Diamond Nights - The Girl's Attractive

Flashlight Brown - I'm a Human

Him - Wicked Game

KT Tunstall - Other Side of the World

Minnie Driver - Hungry Heart

Rascal Flatts - Feels Like Today

-------------------------

Other
------

Gary Jules - Mad World

Johnny Cash - Hurt

(Added the previous two out of any order because I had a list that they were not on then heard them on the Season 2 and 3 DVDs).

Frou Frou - Breathe In

Stereophonics - Maybe Tomorrow

Aqualung - Strange and Beautiful

Eagle Eye Cherry - Long Way Around

Smash Mouth - Pacific Coast Party

Cake - Love You Madly

Hot Action Cop - Fever For the Flava

Maria - I Give, You Take

The Calling - Wherever You Will Go

Sheila Nicholls - Bread and Water

The Wiseguys - Ooh La La

Jimmy Eat World - The Middle

Evanescence - My Immortal

Avril Lavigne - Tomorrow

Binocular - You

Chantal Kreviazuk - In This Life

P.S. Also if anyone sees anything on this list that they know for a fact that was never on Smallville (if you see this it will be in "Other") then please tell me. I got my information in the "Other" list from a third party and am not entirely sure of it's accuracy.

Thanks again.

ETA: I realize most of this information is already on KryptonSite. What I'm looking for is a comprehensive track list that's all in one place in a text format (less clicking and searching) for my own personal use. I also wanted to post it here so anyone else interested could collaborate on it thus saving all interested time and energy. I also don't want any of the major classical tracks on the list. Excluding the techno-classical stuff from Moby, I do want that.

------------------------------------------------------

Alright, looks like there are *a lot* missing so far. I'm going to copy/paste then edit down the list for Season 1 on KryptonSite, if someone beats me to it while I'm typing I'll just edit this out.

I edited out one piano piece but that's all I could readily identify as classical or musical score.)

Credits so far: KryptonSite for all of their awesome information in the music section. Thank you thank you thank you.

Don't forget to visit the main page. ;) KryptonSite (http://www.kryptonsite.com/)

----------------------------------------------------

Alrighty, I'll let these lists sit for a while and give you all some time to respond. The main things I need now are info on the songs I've listed comments next to, info on tracks used from episodes that are missing from KryptonSite's music listings, and info on if I missed any or if I added any that wasn't actually in the show (i.e. in the third party list I have above.)

I'll check back later tonight or tomorrow. Thanks again if anybody can help me.

Thanks for that. I recognized most of them too, but as you can see several of them weren't listed on KryptonSite so I wasn't entirely sure about it.

You mean "Scare" episode 4-10. ;) Anyways, I'm posting the document in non-spreadsheet format here because there's one more thing I need to know about it. I've deleted all of the ones that I know aren't lyrical (i.e. musical scores and instrumentals), but I need to know if I missed any. I also deleted the repeats of songs. Oh, and I left the John Williams Score in there on purpose.

(Sorry for the bad formating, I couldn't fix it in the spreadsheet without screwing it up majorly, so I copied/pasted and edited in Notepad.)

Okay, I'm going to put the rest of Season 4 in the Spreadsheet now that I've remembered how to work it, then go from there. I'll upload my own version when I'm done. I won't be uploading the original spreadsheet to my webspace because I don't know who created it in the first place and I don't want to put it online without giving credit.

Following is a link to a spreadsheet containing all of the information I've gathered so far. The original spreadsheet used as a basis for this one is the one SuperDub2 sent me.

Watching Smallville: I haven't incorporated the info you've sent me into this spreadsheet yet, but I certainly will be. Thanks again.

Wow. That's one heck of a list. One day I plan on d/l (legally of course) all the songs played on SV. I am going to be very poor after that.

P.S. Here's an updated version of the spreadsheet. I've deleted all multiple instances at this point, I think. I tried to leave only the first occurence of each song. Ignore the Have/Not Have section unless you want to use it for yourself. I've just been using it to keep track of songs I already have either on CD or dled from legal sources.

Alright, I've hit a snag. I can't find any Kevin Clay song listed as "Crush". I have Crush by Kevin Clay listed in episode 1-06 Hourglass.

I have found one list of Kevin Clay songs and none of them have anything in the title relating to the word "Crush".

Here's the list.

1. Clay Kevin - Come To Thee Lyrics
2. Clay Kevin - Copelandhagin Lyrics
3. Clay Kevin - Date Rape Lyrics
4. Clay Kevin - Dont Tell Jude Lyrics
5. Clay Kevin - Kiss And Tell Lyrics
6. Clay Kevin - Rose Of Sharon Lyrics
7. Clay Kevin - Shotdown Lyrics
8. Clay Kevin - Spacey Stacey Lyrics
9. Clay Kevin - Squeaky Clean Lyrics
10. Clay Kevin - Still Human Lyrics
11. Super Sucker Salvation Lyrics
12. Watch Me Fall Lyrics

Thanks. Although at this point the only real help they will be is checking my work. :P Maybe they'll have some of the missing episodes. Ooo, and maybe they'll have a link to somewhere I can either legally download or purchase that Kevin Clay stuff that I couldn't find.

Depeche Mode's "Precious" should be on 'any' Ultimate Track list, since it's already in that Metropolis Mix.

Yep, I agree. And I do, indeed, have it on the list already.

As was said in the thread you started on this, it's an original piece by Mark Snow, and it's pretty much unavailable. You're talking about the dramatic/action-y music from Season 3, and not the flowing Superman-like theme from Season 1 and 2, I assume? I'm going to send you an email (assuming your email's in your profile, if it's not, then I'll need you to post it and/or PM it to me so I can talk to you.)

Hi all! Just wanted everyone to know that this project is still alive and well. I'm roughly halfway through compiling a list of which songs I have, know where to get, or have no clue where to find/have questions about.

Once I get the entire list compiled, I'll post which songs/artists that I can't seem to find a trace of so anyone else who's interested can collaborate and let me know if there are errors that are throwing me off in finding them, if they don't exist for legal download or purchase, or if one of you all know where to get them that I'm missing.

Once I do post that list, I want you all to remember that it's against the rules of KryptonSite to post links or information about illegal downloading. If anyone ever has information that they feel is questionable and they'd rather be safe than sorry, you can email me at MidgardDragon@gmail.com

Alright, I've finally got the list of songs that I can't seem to find anywhere compiled. I've inserted notes about ones that I have possible leads on. Other than that, I'm counting on any help any of you can give. I'll be using Google as my personal assistant in order to find out about the artists or songs mentioned.

Black Toast Music - Hey Now (There is a song called Hey Now by Xibit, and one by Oasis, but none by "Blac Toast Music" that I can find info on.)

Aaron D - In Your Eyes

Toby Keith - Matchbox (Can't find it on any Toby Keith CD's or legal downloads. It's either not Toby Keith or I just don't know which CD it was released on.)

Shocore - Goodtalk

Kelly Brock - High On Sunshine

Marty Irwin & Peter Northcote - Anybody Listening

Stretch Nickel - Gone Away

Adam Tenenbaum - Becoming

Hathaway - Kiss The Moon

Kid Lightening - Satellite

Pancho's Lament - Leaving Town Alive

Jamestowne - Not That Simple

Mystica - China

Lizzie - Home Sweet Alabama

Morphic Field - Like A Dream

Contes - Don't Tempt Me

BT - Never Gonna Come Back Down

Rosey - Love Song

Dem Hills - Settle Hills

Premonition - Uneven Odds

Hef - Yesterday

Wonderful Johnson - 17 Years Down

Sophie Agapios - U Girl

Cactus Groove - Crazy Richie

Jackpot - Tattoos

Gigolo Aunts - Let Go

Paul Trudeau - What We've Been Through

Micah Green - You & I

Leave The World - 40 to 5

Bottlefly - Nothing To Do

Firengine Red - Falcor

Micah Green - Hollywood

Josh Clayton-Felt - Love Sweet Love

Hal Lovejoy - Saturday Night's Alright

Wayne - Slow Down

Thrift Store Halo - If I Go

Something Else - Blend

Driver - Not Looking Back

Grant Park - Numb (Perhaps it was Linkin Park? I'd have to watch the episode to see if I hear Linkin Park's Numb in there.)

Radford - Take Your Time

Kevin Clay - Crush

There are roughly 70-71 songs missing from the overall list (those missing songs are listed here). That's an awful lot to have missing from the Ultimate List, so hopefully we can find information on at least some or most of them.

(Again don't post links or info about illegal downloading, I just want info about the songs. i.e. Wether or not I have the title and artist correct, wether or not there are spelling errors, etc.)

ETA: Forgot "Fastball - Someday" so I added it.

ETA #2: To remove Fastball - Someday. Dunno why I thought I didn't know where to find it, it was easily available.

It's the same guy who did the music for X-FILES I believe. Mark Snow might be his name too.

Hey guys, here are two spreadsheets that people've been asking around about. I'm not sure who originally gave them to me, please feel free to step forward and take credit if it's important to you that you are credited. These may have some of the classical pieces that I have removed from my list:

Just an update for Episode 2-13, Suspect. The opratic tune when Lionel was shot, I've heard it somewhere, so after racking my brain for a while, here it is..... Sarah Brightman, Question of Honour from her album Fly. The song is more of a pop/classical number. Great song actually, in fact one of my favorite artists.

I don't know the name of the song but what song has the lyrics
"I walk a lonely path" or "I walk this lonely path or road..." in a scene with Clark by himself? Can anyone tell me the name of the song? None of the episode song titles ring a bell.

Could you possibly mean Greenday - Boulevard of Broken Dreams? That song goes like this:

"I walk a lonely road
The only one that I have ever known
Don't know where it goes
But it's home to me and I walk alone"

What Switchfoot song are you talking about? And are you talking to me or someone else? Did I include an incorrect song in the list?

And the name of that Switchfoot song you are referring to is....."This is Your Life" ;)

I think it would be so great if they put together season cd's that had all of the songs from the particular season on it. I mean, I think it would be a good investment for them, because obviously, alot of us love the music in the shows, so many people would bye it.

This is a really good thread. They use music really well in Smallville. It always seems to just match the scene.

I sometimes wonder about the music they now use at the end though, because I preferred the end-music from Seasons 1 and 2. But it could just be that Smallville the show has changed from S1 - S5 and this new music matches new-style SV better. S1/S2 Smallville seemed more innocent and pure, I call it classic Smallville. That's my hypothesis anyway! Does anyone have any similar thoughts?

Hi everyone! I'm new on this board, so if I do something wrong or improperly, I welcome constructive flaming.
I have a few questions whether some songs that may or may not have appeared on the show. All of these have been mentioned in various people's Smallville music lists in various different forums, with no episode numbers, and they don't appear in the Kryptonsite's music list. Can someone tell me if any of these actually have been featured on Smallville, and if so, when?
Deep by Binocular
Smallville by Brainpool
Get Ready to Bounce by Brooklyn Bounce
Chemistry by Semisonic
This Way by Jewel (some say this was in episode 1-05)
I Try by Macy Gray
King of Yesterday by Jude
Porcelain by Moby
Question by Old 97s
Question by Satellite Rides
Magnificent Bastart #2 by Phelan

Also, for the classical pieces, I was wondering if someone knew the exact movements. For Mozart's Requiem (the end of ep. 3-22, Covenant), there are 14 different pieces. For Chopin's Piano Sonatas No. 1 and 3 (ep. 1-06), there are four movements each. If someone can tell me which ones were the ones used in the show, I would greatly appreciate it.

In Episode 3-06 (Relic), song lists say Matchbox by Toby Keith was used. I think this song is actually by Carl Perkins, not by Toby Keith. Does anyone know for sure?

The songs by Black Toast Music, Stegala Music and Wild Whirled can't be obtained by conventional means. These three "artists" are actually music companies creating songs/musical pieces on demand for TV shows. If one worked in the entertainment industry, one could purchase CDs containing those songs. Otherwise, I'm not sure if maybe tracks featured on Smallville could be begged from the company reps, if someone is daring enough to try?

Several nearly-impossible-to-find songs I was actually able to find (legally) through Google. Give It To Me by Vishiss, Uneven Odds by Premonition and 2 minutes of Leaving Town Alive by Pancho's Lament are available for free from the respective artists' websites. I don't currently have the links, but if there are curious people out there, I could find them again.

Hi everyone,
Sorry if this will be a long post. I'm trying to help everyone out. Please note that I am NOT promoting any kind of illegal downloading or sharing. I have been a Smallville Music Junkie for about a year now. The show gets its music from Recording Studios, Independent Artists, and Mainstream artists. For publishing reasons, some songs/artists have even had their names changed from the original name. I have managed to find a lot of the music from either legal downloads/purchases and/or contacting artists. I was scared about emailing some of the studios at first. But there's no legal action they can take against you for asking about music. If you email them and they say "no", then that's the worst that will happen. I did contact Wild Whirled, Bosshouse, Stegala Music (who by the way also goes under the name "Stretch Nickel"), and Black Toast Music. Anyone can email them...they all have websites. I even contacted the Music Supervisor for the show. Some of them were very nice, others were not so pleasant. There are some studios out there that are actually making their libraries available to the public thru legal digital downloads. Maybe if there is enough demand then Bosshouse and Black Toast will do so. Below is a list of songs I was unavailable to find. If anyone knows how to find these, you can email me. musicman1257@yahoo.com

If there is a song you have been having trouble finding, email me and while I can't provide the songs, I can tell you where I found them.

Here's a list of some of the songs I am missing:
Blend by Something Else
Numb by Grant Park
Saturday Night's Alright by Hal Lovejoy
Hey Now and Blame by Black Toast Music
Everyday Is Like The Weekend by Amy Ward
Home Sweet Alabama by Lizzie
It's All Behind by Anthony Michaelangelo Valentino
Welcome To My World by Kyle Newacheck
A Long Way by Dara Shindler

Hey Now and Welcome to my world I bought from Walmart Music downloads, It's been a while though.

Anyway, i, too, think the music is intriguing. Mark Snow composes some absolutely beautiful pieces of music. I'd buy a CD of his compositions. Whoever chooses songs to emphasize the mood or action in the episodes does a fabulous job. I think SV would not be as satisfying without all the good music. Even the music I don't like seems to fit the scenes.

I also got "Break so easy" there as well.

Macy Gray's song and Moby's Porcelain is there but Black Toast Music seems to no longer be available there.

I love the music of Smallville. My favorite songs from the Smallville show are:

1) "Wherever You Will Go" by the Calling from Metamorphosis;

2) "You're Beautiful," by James Blunt (from the episode, "Reckoning");

3) "Everything" by Lifehouse (from Season 1 Pilot and Tempest);

4) "Superman" by Five For Fighting from Season 1, Stray;

5) And of course "Save Me" by Remy Zero.

Hey, you can probably find any of the songs I didn't list here: http://thewb.warnerbros.com/web/music_show.jsp?id=SM

I haven't seen any lists with all of the classical pieces played (including the little teeny pieces they play for certain short scenes) so you probably wont' find all of the classical anywhere. But I do think that song at the end of S3 is listed somewhere on that site.

Here is an updated version of the spreadsheet. The WB has only posted two more songs for two more episodes since the last one on my old list, so it's really only two songs added.

www.geocities.com/midgard_dragon99/MDSMALLVILLE.XLS

This might not be updated yet. For some reason either Geocities is having a problem or my ISP is having a problem, and it's taking forever to upload a <200 k file on broadband.

why does the wb only list some of the songs on each episode.. like if u look at the season 3 finale....they only list that one more moment song but not the one played at the end...is that cuz its smallville orchastrated music??

if it is..is there a way to find that also?

I think that's right, because it's Smallville music, the stuff they make themselves or a branch of The WB does or something like that, they don't list it on that "Music of Smallville" site. I don't know how you could obtain the other music or the titles of the pieces.

Of course there were way more than 2 more songs (there were way more than 2 more episodes) but The WB doesn't list the stuff that isn't by other artists apparently.

Sorry that I haven't paid as close attention to the songs as I would have when I was younger but I just wanted to say that Smallville has by far the best soundtrack of any show on T.V. as far as I am concerned. I do have a personal preference for artists like Lifehouse and Avril and their tunes were the most memorable for me. Please keep up the good work!

There are two "official" soundtracks that you can buy. One is called The Talon Mix and the other is called The Metropolis Mix. You can buy them on Amazon or anywhere CDs are sold.

The rest of the music you can either obtain by buying the CDs of the artists who sing it, or buy using a legal download service such as iTunes to download the individual songs. These are the legal ways to obtain the music, we are not allowed to discuss illegal downloading on this site.

Hi, can anyone help me, i'm trying to identify a song from the "Fade" episode. It's the song that plays when Clark walks out to the balcony at Graham's party and meets up with some woman. I've searched quite a few websites including WB and come up empty-handed so far, even some of the lyrics/words from the song might help :)

TIA

ok, question. Did all the songs on the new soundtrack been played this season? Because when I went back over them I could of sworn there were a couple that haven't been played yet. Maybe its just me.

Uma

All the songs but one, as far as I know.

I`m in Costa Rica, and we are still missing two episodes from this season, Oracle and Vessel, so unless they play "Other side of the world" by KT Tunskall in one of them, that is the only song they are missing from the Metropolis Mix this season.

Didn't "Other Side Of The World" play in a Season 4 episode? I know that's what happened with "Feels Like Today", it was on the MM but was played last year at the end of "Run".

That is most definitely not true. All of the songs have not been played, however, I'm not positive which songs weren't. Check The WB's music page for exactly which songs have been played, they always list the ones that are off of the Metropolis Mix.

The person who chooses the music for the show is excellent at choosing songs with lyrics that completely match the scene. My favorite is from season 4 in "Blank" when Clark hunts down Lana in the school hallway and "Let Me Go" by 3 doors down is playing. "You love me, but you don't know who I am"... very fitting. Then later, when Clark gets his memory back on the porch with Lana, again, as "This is your life" by Switchfoot plays in the background. " Are you who you wanna be?"... perfect! Smallville has assisted me in making a number of my cd purchases. It's the best music sampler there is because it offers the added bonus of eye candy in the form of Tom Welling.

My fav was in season 4 when Lana dances with Clark the song "Superman" (Not Easy) by Five for fighting plays at their school dance.

Also in season 5 when Clark was in his loft about to open up to lana that song by james blunt, "You're Beautiful" where the lyics go "Coz I'll never be with you" plays. It's so pretty but sad..

They really do choose the best songs

I always enjoy the music in Smallville. Like people are saying, they choose tracks that really match the scene perfectly! I've noticed in Season 5 that they don't use as much popular music as they used to though and they seem to use the classical score more. Looking at the playlist has confirmed this. But I don't mind because the show is still great!

torinoblue

I created this list of music. The times are accurate as far as they can be without using the DVD versions of the episodes.

I prefer using the times because then everyone can agree on what a particular song is and there is no confusion.

I have also added even incidental music, e.g. Clark's ringtone as long as it is not Smallville score music.

Any help on the missing music would be great.

I have a more detailed HTML page with notes on some of the music, and a description of when each piece of music happens in the episode which I will put up here (http://smallvillemusic.atspace.com) .

I realise I could put this on the Smallville Music Thread sticky but I would like to be able to edit this first post, so people can see the changes easily.

I would like to do this with all the seasons on DVD, but I am not in the mood for more Smallville currently so if other people want to do that. There is some discrepancies and confusion in some of the Smallville music lists that might be ironed out using a list like this:

Cool list. I was trying to figure out what piece of music was playing in a scene in Hidden, where Chloe was tied down and that guy was launching the rocket. It was some drum beat that I really liked but haven't been able to track the name of. Do you by any chance know what that piece is, or even just the genre of it?

It is probably just part of the score if it is not on the list. As far as I know most of the score music is composed by Mark Snow and none has ever been released on CD.

Although there was a piece of licensed music used in that episode called Supernatural by Wild Whirled, that I have not been able to place. Wild Whirled are a company that provide atmospheric or background music for TV programs.

I just looked that one up. I thought it was a just a traditional song too, but it appears to have a composer.

Believe it or not Jingle Bells, one of the most famous American Christmas songs, was originally written for Thanksgiving! The author and composer of Jingle Bells was a minister called James Pierpoint who composed the song in 1857 for children celebrating his Boston Sunday School Thanksgiving. The song was so popular that it was repeated at Christmas, and indeed Jingle Bells has been reprised ever since.

Jingle Bells is only used as Clark's ringtone but I decided to include all non-score music.

I just did one for the latest season.

I thought people might know the names of the music that was missing from the list, but there doesn't seem to be too much knowledge about them.

The times are reasonably accurate but obviously they are not from the DVDs which could be done with the previous seasons.

I thought it might be a nice little co-operative project for the forum to do the previous seasons in a list like this, using the wonderful lists previously compiled by the likes of MidgardDragon^^^

Some suggestions for the music list would be:
1. All non-Smallville-score music is mentioned, even if it is incidental like a musical ringtone/marching band.
2. Notes can also be made on score music if there is something of interest e.g. if I was doing the episode where TW meets Chris Reeve and they blend in the old Superman tune, even though most people would know it, some kids wouldn't and might like to know the orginal composer, so I would put in a note.
3. If the scene cuts away and comes back, and the same music is playing, this should be listed twice, but if the music just fades in the background and comes back, it can be listed just once.

"On Your Side" by Pete Yorn
"Standing Still" by Jewel

But that particular song never is shown.

This is a great thread, and just what I was looking for. Actually, I'm looking for some help from some SV music-philes myself, in putting together a fairly comprehensive list of music from all the seasons. What you've started here is awesome, but more detail than I need or am going for. I'm just trying to tie the licensed music (non-score) to the individual scenes. Some of them are easy, and some of them are extremely difficult, and I figured there would be someone here that would be much better at this (and more familiar with some of the obscure tracks) than me.

Anyway, I don't mean to tread on this particular project but if anyone is willing to help, I'd very much appreciate it. What I've got for starters is a list of all licensed music (non-score, non-classical) and each song is assigned to the correct episode already. Next, I've got each episode broken down into scenes already as well, so it's just a matter of some knowledgeable person lining them up as thoroughly as possible. I haven't been able find such a resource out there anywhere, so this season 5 list should fit the bill quite nicely. But anyone interested in helping out with the rest of the seasons, please PM me.

I love the music of Smallville. The music can make or break a scene and they choose the best songs. Radio Free Roscoe (haha I love that show) has really good music too, and IMO Smallville and RFR has the best music on any tv show I've seen. And I've seen quite a few, sadly.

I learned about a lot of groups/singers because of Smallville: Lifehouse, James Blunt, Anna Nalick, Dido, Coldplay, Maroon 5, Finger Eleven, & Minnie Driver to name a few... the music rocks... really mellow when it needs to be or more upbeat when it calls for it... :D

The previous seasons' music has been listed in the majority. Although most of the lists don't make it clear what music happens when. Also it's never clear if anything is missing or duplicated, unless the times are included.

Using the episode time and scene description is the best way of doing this and removes confusion and duplication in lists, and allows people to compare notes.

Which was why I made the list the way I did.

There isn't as much interest as I originally thought there would be though.

Can you publish your notes to the web?

Here is my all-season's list. It goes up to Reckoning. I'm not sure if the "order" is correct, and I don't have timestamps. It may or may not be useful, don't know. It's gone through so many changes, that I don't know if it's correct anymore, and I'm pretty much not updating it anymore.

I'm not sure this question was for me or not, but I should have included this link with my original post. If you want to see what I'm going for, check this out:

http://www.smallville-guide.com/Episode.aspx?Episode=Pilot

As you can see, all of the music for the pilot has been associated with a scene, and you can read the scene breakdown/description/transcripts below that. Ok, one episode down, 100+ to go. All of the episodes have the major licensed music already assigned, just not at the scene level, so that's what I would like to do to match what you see for the Pilot. Actually there are other episodes that do have the assignment at the scene level, or at least for some of the music, but most do not and I'd like to get the help of any SV music guru out there that I can.

i thought that in "Nicodemus", when lana comes through the doors and nelly furtado's "i will make you cry" and the infamous pool-scene with divine right's "supernatural" was just perfect!

another hot one was when desirée, the hot biology-teacher with the pheromones in "heat", stepped into the class-room to nelly's "hot in herre" and n.e.r.d's "truth or dare" was on the same episode! just hot...

(smallville seasons 1 & 2 are on every day where i live, so i get to see the good ol' episodes from the very beginning again... season 3 starts tomorrow!) :D

"Let Your Shoulder Fall" by Matthew Jay
"Top of the World" by the Juliana Theory
"On Your Side" by Pete Yorn

I was actually wondering that too! I'm still searching for it. Another one that I haven't been able to find (and there have been many) is the song that's playing in Red when Clark comes to school on his motorcycle. The only lyrics are "California, California, California." haha So it's kind of difficult to find! Can anyone help?

:rotfl: hahahaha :rotfl:. The music on Smallville is just cranking. It almost suits every moment. Lifehouse at the school prom along with Remy Zero. James Blunt in Reckoning...the list goes on and on. The only moment i hated hearing a particular song was when in Season 2 Lana spin kicked this dude in the face and there was a song playing when this happened. Oh gosh that was painful. But for me my favourite songs that ive heard on Smallville would be the following *the episodes arent mentioned*

Save Me - Remy Zero
Perfect Memory - Remy Zero
So Far Away - Staind
I Wish I Cared - A-Ha
A Message - Coldplay
This Is Your Life - Switchfoot
Your Beautiful - James Blunt
Weapon - Matthew Good Band
Dirty Little Secret - All American Rejects
I Greive - Peter Gabriel
Collide - Dishwalla
All The Money or The Simple Life Honey - Dandy Warhols
Renegade Fighter - Zed
Elavation - U2
*All Songs From Lifehouse*
Blind, You and Me, Undone, Come Back Down, Everything and Breathing

and the list goes on and on

Assuming it's not a classical piece, it could be any one of these:

Hug
"Mistaken I.D." by Citizen Cope

"Slow Down" by Wayne

"Into You" by Jennifer Knapp

"Into the Lavender" by Rubyhorse

"Have a Nice Day" by Stereophonics

The original song that the CW theme is based on is called Get Ready by The Temptations. The CW Version is by Fergie and Will I Am from the Black Eyed Peas..but I don't think that version is available to the public.

Hey, I'm having trouble finding a song and I was wondering if anyone could help me out? It's called Eight Half Letters by Stereoblis; it was played at the beginning of Facade in Season 4.

Thanks in advance for any help =)

MidgardDragon
09-22-2006, 04:28 PM
Well, first off, are you sure you're thinking of Eight Half Letters? I think the song that played at the beginning of Facade was What Do You Do In The Summer (although I haven't checked the list). If you're sure that's the song you want, check iTunes, walmart.com, and other music download services. If those don't work, we can't really help you, other than to tell you to use the usual methods that we are not to talk about on this site.

Rade
09-22-2006, 04:40 PM
Yeah it's definately Eight Half Letters; I checked the lyrics and they match what I heard on the episode. Unfortanately iTunes doesn't have any of Steroblis' songs, and my OS is imcompatable with walmart.com apparently...

If you have another idea, regarding those usual methods, maybe you could PM me? Thanks.

Smallville seems to like using Keane songs. I heard one while I was on vacation named Crystal Ball that I would probably bet will be used sometime during season 6. It definitely sounds like a Smallville type song.

i'm not into the alternative music, all american rejects i love though. everytime i hear something alternative like nickleback, lifehouse, 3 doors down, coldplay, keane...they just remind me of clana. i was surprised to hear nelly's "hott in here" on sv. i wish they could play more hip-hop songs!

xrayvision
09-25-2006, 10:01 PM
I'm not into it either, but I think it fits many of Smallville's scenes. I really liked that Depeche Mode song in Arrival. I also liked the one that played at the very end of Blank when they showed Lex looking at the drawing he stole from Clark. The Mad World version done by Gary Jules (taking nothing away from the TFF version) at the end of Visage was well placed as was the Johnny Cash song from Shattered. I also liked the Jimmy Eat World song in Transference (was a great prison riot song).

Spirit Detective
09-25-2006, 10:08 PM
Precious by Depeche Mode (Arrival) and Pain by Jimmy Eat World (Transference) really made those two scenes great.

xrayvision
09-26-2006, 12:29 AM
I also liked the other Depeche Mode song in Fanatic, but not as much as Precious. The song playing at the party in Thirst ("The Girl is Attractive") was also good for that scene. And I can't forget about Peter Gabriel's Grieve (a great song for the somber event that was taking place in Reckoning).

Jimmy Eat World & Demeche Mode were both so awesome.

I wish they would have saved that song Fly (by Mark Joseph?) from Lucy for the very end of the episode that will precede the one where he will finally get flight permanently. It had an ominous feel to it and was wasted for that episode since the subject matter of the song lyrics (flying) was not to take place anytime soon within the timeframe of that episode.

Considering I dont like that song, I love that scene, and the way the music is used. Thats the beauty of good music selection in TV and films, even if you dont like the song, you love it in that context. There have been countless ones like that in Smallville (I hate that Pussycat Dolls song, but it doesnt half make me laugh in Exposed!) The 'You're Beautiful' one I think is used best in the second sequence, when Clark doesnt tell Lana, its almost heartbreaking that we know his reasons, but she doesnt and hates him for it.
