Hey everyone!
I decided to create a trailer using The Butterfly Effect. I tried to make it legit as possible and my timing had never been better. I am just getting used to voiceovers and yes I know some are over lyrics. I wanted that! I only sent it to people I thought woud like it because I dont know how many people who responded in my last thread would enjoy it. So ask for a link in the thread.

Hey J.R. !!!!

Wow! Thanks for the link! I am so glad to be the first to see and post on your new trailer!! First off, I love this movie and think you made an awesome choice for a trailer! Watched it like 6 times already!

I loved your green rating screen and New Line Cinema additions-They really make it feel authentic! Song choice rocked!! Is that Nickleback?? Your scene selections and voice overs where perfect! I like the "If I can make scars, do I have the power to heal them?" line! You really picked amazing scenes to really catch the feel of that movie! I was impressed!

Some of my fave scenes where...
:10-:12 when he goes from kid, to teen, to adult!! cool!

:35 at the grave- (a must have scene imo- glad you included it)

:54 on ...scenes were really great J.R. Very moving and the line you used is just right too "everytime I try to help someone..." his dad, friend, mom, LOVED the timing with the mailbox and the scene with his arms!

EDITS were amazing! :21 Hit was Incredibly timed!(my fave!) :54 till the end was REALLY, REALLY GREAT Editing J.R.!! Excellent use of those song beats and the scenes were perfect to get the feel of this movie!

The Butterfly at the end was the perfect finale! :D

AWESOME JOB!!! I am thrilled to have been the first to post!!! :D:D:D

Cynthia;)

P.S. Your pm box is full! :p Could you clean it out a little! You act like you have been busy making an incredible trailer or something! ;)

That was pretty damn good bro.

Butterfly Effect is one of my all time favorite movies, because I love the time travel genre. I thought that the movie put an interesting spin on it.

Great scene selection and use of voiceovers. Green screen and New Line intros were awesome too.

A sequence I really liked was you showing the young Evan getting blown up by the mailbox and then you show Ashton's Evan with no arms.

I also loved the sequences when Ashton's Evan is in prison and you showed the blurriness around the prison walls, and the shot from the alternate happy ending was great too. (Like I said, one of my favorite films, so I know a lot about it.)

I have seen the original trailer and there were a few similarities between yours and the original, but for the most part, yours was an original. I love how you kept the song they used in the original, because it made it seem authentic.

This was also the best editing I have seen from you as well, so be proud from that aspect.

I would have to say that the only gripes I had were the sound being a tad low for the voiceover, and the picture quality could have been a little better.

But it was still very well put together and authentic looking. The Butterfly Effect logo was a great way to end it too.

JR, great to see you got this one finished. I haven't seen the movie, and my policy is usually that if I haven't seen the movie b/c I'm not interested, then I don't watch the trailer, if I've seen it, I watch the trailer. BE is one I've wanted to see, so I'm gonna check out your trailer...
WO! That looks like a crazy movie. I love the song, its one that I listen to all the time... only problem is, it doesn't sit too well with voiceovers. The ones at the beginning were fine, but I couldn't hear what Ashton was saying in the last one.
Nice flow- very good job giving a sense of the plot.
Way to go - can't wait to see a season 5 Smallville vid!

Hey JR, thanks for the link.

Awesome job man! I haven't had a chance to see this movie yet, but your trailer made it look very cool. I'll have to check it out now.

You did an excellent job with the trailer, as I'm pretty sure that I "get" what the movie's supposed to be about. And as always your editing is awesome, and your scene selection and scene progression was amazing.

I thought that the way you started the trailer with the voiceover was perfect. Awesome choice for a voiceover, it prepared the watcher for what the movie was about at its core. And I loved how you switched from him talking as an adult, back to him as a kid, back to him as an adult to finish the speech. That was a great idea and was way more effective than just showing the adult talking. So awesome job there.

I also really thought the part at 30-40 second was very well done. The grave scene looked great in there, and really conveyed the enormity of what the character was trying to accomplish. The voiceover was very well timed over the scene, and added alot to the moment.

Awesome editing at 54. Great timing with the music and the scenes were well sequenced together. Very impresive.

1:19: I thought this sequence with the explosion and the double amputee was very well done too.

And I loved the butterfly over the skull thing at the end. It looked awesome!

Very awesome trailer man, it looked very professional! I probably missed alot of what you were trying to do since I haven't seen the film, but I still thought you did an amazing job with it. And you've gotten me interested in seeing the movie itself, so I guess the trailer worked!

Whoa! Thank you Cynthia for the awesome and detailed feedback! One of the main things I tried to do was make the trailer look authentic. The song is actually by Staind and is called "It's been awhile." I am glad you liked that paricular voiceover because I was actually wondering if I should put it in there.
As for the scenes you like..
I am glad you mentioned the young, teenager, and then adult clips because I wanted to make the audience know that the actors were actually the same character. Hopefully I pulled that off.
The graveyard scene is a MUST used clip. Theres so much raw emotion that you can just feel Evan's pain.
I am glad you liked .54 on, because that is what took me the longest to actually do. Luckily I was using Vegas so the fast edits were a little bit easier to manage. The scene selection was also crucial, because in a trailer the fast edits are normally what grab alot of people(As do voiceovers) so I tried to make my scene selection good in that time.
I didnt know if the Butterfly thing would actually fit with the trailer, but I was really happy when I saw that it did. After I had put it in I knew no other scene would end the trailer so well.
Once again thanks for the wonderful feedback! My PM box is clear now!

Thanks Ryan! Your on of the most skilled trailer makers(As long as video) on the boards so its nice to hear you liked it. Butterfly Effect is also one of my favorite movies, it and Donnie Darko are two of the best "time traveling" movies I have ever seen.

I tried my hardest on the voiceovers in the video. I know I fell short a couple times but I am happy with the result. There are so many great scenes in BE that it was hard to pick which ones I should put on their. I am glad you liked them though!
The sequence with teenage Evan getting blown up and then adult Evan having no arms was to show that every action he makes has a consequence. I am glad you liked the sequence because it is also one of my favorites.
The prison scene where he was going back was actually kinda difficult to edit. I had to make it look smooth and I hope I pulled that off.
I really wanted to jepp kinda relative to the trialer(I.E. some of the similarties) but I also wanted to make it unique. I thing I pulled it off in that aspect.
Thanks for the editing comment man! I really did try my hardest on this and it helped that I have Vegas now.
I know the audio editing was kinda low, but its like whatever I did it didnt matter. As for the picture quality I don't know why it wasnt great since Vegas is suppose to give out amazing picture quality. Maybe it was my rip?
Thanks again Ryan for the awesome feedback!

Chris,
I am glad you watched the trailer even though you havent seen the movie. You should def. check it out. Its amazing! BE is really insane in some parts. It is really awesome to see everything play out. I knew I kinda screwed up in the last voiceover but there was nothing I could do and I NEEDED that there. In the last one he said "Everytime I go back and try to save someone everything just goes to ****."
Thanks for the comments one the flow. I tried to give bits and pieces of the plot without giving away to much. It looks like a succeded! Thanks again man for the awesome feedback!

Keith,
Thanks for watching the trailer even though you havent seen the movie! I am glad I have gotten you interested in seeing the movie since it really is awesome.
I think the beginning of a trailer is crucial and I really tried the first 15 seconds to catch the audiences attention and show what the movie is about. I wanted to show Evan actually just going through a black-out stage. I am glad you thought it worked!

The graveyard scene is one of the most powerful scenes in the movie IMO. So I thought it a must to have it the trailer. Like you said it just shows what the character is trying to accomplish.

The fast edits was hardpressed. I am glad you liked it because it took some time to do!

The burn sequence like I have said is one of my fav. It just showed that every action has a reaction.

I am glad you like the Butterfly thing, because like I said at first I didnt know if it would fit.

Thanks for all the awesome feedback Keith! I am glad you thought the trailer actually looked professional and I hope you see the movie soon. Thanks again!

First of all, this movie didn't get even near enough the praise it deserved. It was virtually pushed aside by the mainstream media.
I believe it's one of the greatest time travel movies i've ever seen. (Even though the people I went to see it with, said it was confusing, & it sucked.
What can they expect, if the stupid funkers talked all through it. )

Secondly......

J.R. Dude! That trailer rocked! :p
Great edits with both Video AND the Audio. It really captures the essence of the movie. Actually it makes me wanna' pull the movie out & watch it again. This time, without any idiots around.

Great job man! ;)

I agree with you Randy. I didnt really get why cirtics hated the movie since virtually everyone I have mentioned it to said they loved it. But what can you do?

Thanks for the compliments! I tried really hard in my editing on this one and I am happy with the outcome. I tried to capture everything that was good about the movie and it seems that I have done this. I have learned that the movie seems to get better with every watch, and if you have it on DVD the commentary is really awesome.

Thank you so much! The voiveovers along with the fast edits were the hardest to do. I slipped in some areas, but it is the best audio editing I have personally done. I can't take credit for the song since it was in the orginal trailer and thats where I actually go the idea. This movie made my respect for Ashton Kutcher's acting go up considerably. It showed that he could do things besides comedy.

Nice trailer! The music and clips you used meshed real well together. I never got to catch the Butterfly Effect, but it sounds pretty cool, I'll have to look at renting it sooner or later!
