I don't know about you all, but I still love the series and I still watch it when it's on SpikeTV or Sci-Fi Channel. I like the one with Amanda as the main character, also. (Highlander-The Raven?)

Here's a couple of ready-made topics for you:

Duncan was always cooler than Conner, and I hate Christopher Lambert's voice. Who's your favorite?

What was up with Highlander 2?

Who is your favorite evil immortal?

I'm a huge Highlander fan. I'm in the UK so we don't get repeats as often as you do. Sky One showed season six a year or so ago but they don't have the rights to the series anymore. I'm hoping that maybe the Sci-Fi Channel here might pick it up and reshow it, i'd love to see the first three seasons again.

The film is what got me into the series. I just loved the idea of immortality and i loved Christopher in the original Highlander movie.

Hated the second film with a fiery, fiery passion. It totally screwed up the Highlander lore, made no sense whatsoever and should never have been made. It was just appalling.

Love the character of Duncan MacLeod, of the two MacLeod's he's my favourite. Favourite eps are "Timeless" and the ones featuring the Four Horsemen. Love the character of Methos also, i love his dry sense of humour.

Favourite evil immortal. Kind of liked Xavier St Cloud and also Kallas.

Never watched Highlander The Raven, it didn't appeal to me, as much as i love the Highlander lore, Elizabeth Gracen in my opinion couldn't carry a series alone like Adrian Paul could and did. I think the series would've worked better with Alex Raven as "The Raven" rather than Amanda, but hey, that's just my opinion :)

I loved this show!!
Duncan became my fave because he wasn't burdened with the fact that he had a French accent when he was supposed to be Scottish!:D
As for the movie "Highlander 2"... I simply ignore it and disavow any knowledge of it's supposed existance! I still think it was a bad dream I had!

The show was awesome. I still watch it occasionally on spike tv. Duncan was much cooler than Conner. And I am not sure what was up with Highlander 2, I am like Big Al, I try to ignore the fact it ever happened.

Love It!!!... The series that is. i also liked the Raven, but as we discovered in the thread about fave tv shows, I like a lot of sci-fi/fantasy kinda show no matter how badly it is written. Actually I just like the shows, that even if they are written badly, I can take the idea of it and make it fun in my head. :)

but I digress, I haven't seen the movies recently so i'm not gonna say anything about them...

OMG!
I loved that show!!!!!
Duncan was amazing! I liked him better! My favorite baddie was Calas of course! He rocked!!!!

AAAAH! Highlander! Oh my god! Why did you have to remind me of this show now that it is gone! lol

I love Highlander. It is so far the one of three shows i have managed to buy on dvd. First of course, smallville, then angel, and now i have the first three seasons of highlander. I can't wait for season four to come out.

My favorite immortal is connor, but duncan was cool too. I just liked connors wisdom more. Duncan was smart, but in the end, he still thought of himself as connors student. But i love duncans sword more. I want to buy the replica here soon.

My favorite baddie was Kalas, I just love the way he played with everyones lives.

Highlander 2, total waste of crap. It should never have been made, same with three. Endgame was alright, but the first is still the best.

At least you guys have the DVD's :( Here in the UK, i have a region 2 player, so i can't play the DVD's and i'm sick of waiting for a date for them to be released on R2. To be truthful, i don't think it's going to happen. :(

Aaah! Peter Wingfield!!!!!

I love Methos!. I love his dry sense of humour and the way he avoided confrontation. After Duncan, i definitely love Methos. (Did you see Peter Wingfield in X2 incidentally?)

No, but he was a baddie wasn't he?
He was delicious! I loved how as Mythos, he used his wits instead of his muscles!
When i found out that in the past he was bloodthursty and stuff i was stunned! It was funny but then i was like: Wow!!!!!! LOL

Here's some trivia.

When the HIGHLANDER Powers That Be were trying to decide on a spin-off, a series starring Methos was one of their choices. Why in the world they decided to do an Amanda series, when Methos was right there, is beyond my comprehension. I mean, seriously. If your one of the producers, and you're wondering, "Hmmm. Which character should we make the star of their own series? Amanda or Methos?" who would you pick? Who?!

Now that my rant is over, I like HIGHLANDER the series too. Personally, I try to ignore the existence of every movie but the first and ENDGAME, which was a decent action/adventure flick. Accept, you know, there wasn't enough Methos.

I love Highlander, my favourite tv show besides Smallville, I have the first three seasons on DVD, I am in the middle of season 3 right now, and I have pre-ordered season 4 and 5, Highlander.com has them for pre-order right now.

Big Al, Adrian Paul isn't french he is English he was born and raised in London, but he has travelled Europe and he does speak french plus italian. And his real name is Adrian Paul Hewet.

I always liked Duncan better than Connor, but I saw the TV series before I saw the movies... and I haven't even seen all the movies. Christopher Lambert's voice is good for some roles (e.g. Rayden in Mortal Kombat) but I didn't really like his voice when he was playing Connor. Also liked Duncan 'cause he was big on all the cool martial arts stuff that I'm such a sucker for.

yllektra
12-06-2003, 10:31 AM
Yeah! Lambert's voice is creepy! I never really liked it but i kinda got used to it! Stll Adrian Paul is THE Highlander for me!
And the spin-off with Amanda! I liked Amanda but she wasn't as interesting as Mythos to explore as a character, plus it was a woman and i don't know i liked Mythos better!
(Is Methos the right form? Cos in Greek it is Mythos and i am kinda confused!)
How about Cassandra? Did anyone like Cassandra? She was fun too!

Definately one of my fave shows ever!!!!!!

It's with an e.

And i like Connor a lot more. Duncan holds on to ancient promises and old codes of honor, even in a sitiuation where it would make him the bad guy. THat's what I don't like about him. Times have changed but he hasnt. He still holds onto codes fo the past, even whe tehy prove to be outdated, and wrong. Connor at least accepted teh times as changing, and held onto what he could of his past, but accepted the future, rather than try to fight it with outdated beliefs.

Very nicely said! I totally agree! that was both his strong and weak point!

Thanks Hal, sorry Big Al, that is what I get for not paying attention when I am reading.

I liked Duncan better, I always thought Conner was a little bored with life and thought he knew everything and didn't need to learn anymore, and Duncan still wanted to learn and live and cherish life.

Next to Smallville, it's the only show I try to watch regularly (reruns, DVDS, etc). Highly recommed the DVD's for anyone with access to them.
I’ve always liked Duncan over Connor. Adrian Paul is a better fighter. I always respected what Duncan stood for in his life.

I'm a big Highlander fan. I'm in the UK too, and chances of us getting a R2 release of the series on DVD is very unlikely. And I can't afford to import the region 1's. :(

I do have one of the swords (Duncan) and I used it to cut the cake at my wedding. I'm trying to collect the entire set, which is:

Connor Macleod Broadsword
Connor Macleod katana
Duncan Macleod katana
Kurgan Broadsword.
black duncan macleod bradsword. (unofficial but cool looking)

I want to get one of the first release Kurgan swords that was sold in seperate pieces. Apparently it was deemed a concealed weapon and was banned from being sold.

My husband keeps asking me where I'm going to put all of these, but I'll find a space!

UK Fans: If you have Sky Digital, you'll be interested to hear that in the New Year, a new channel is being launched. It's called FX and from January 13th at either 2.00pm/2.30pm and 6.00pm when it's repeated, Highlander Season One is being shown!!!... i'm majorly excited about this :D

I was a big Highlander: TS fan. The show sort of lost it's way in the last season or so. I didn't like when they sent Richie away. Anyway, I agree that Duncan really is a self-righteous bastard a lot of the time. Problem is, when righteousness was actually needed, he tended to pass. He *had* to be judge, jury, and executioner, because it was simply irresponsible to let naughty immortals run around when the cops couldn't deal with them. This is also Clark Kent's problem, BTW.

Who's into Highlander??
I like of Duncan MacLeod's epic journey through the ages, it's amazing...
And, visiting the Highlander's official site (http://www.highlander-official.com ), I saw that another season came out on DVD....this time was Season 5....on a nine disc box-set... And it's cool because all the episodes are digitally re-mastered
I'll be sure to buy it, because it contains hours of extras, bonus and etc....

Anyone else interested in Highlander dvd's??

I only got to see a few episodes of the Highlander series, but I would like to see the whole thing. I just did some searching and it looks like the DVDs haven't been released for Australia yet (region 4) :(

How does the show end? Did they get cancelled and so it ends without closure, or does it get to end properly?

SPOILER! SPOILER! SPOILER!

the ending was pretty bad but it was an ending....i mean richy died (which surprised me, so that was good), and this little person with a ball bounced it around. duncan macleod didn't use his anger or frustration because that would only increase his power, so instead, he meditated and killed him (this is where it gets bad). i thought they should've ended it with a sword fight. it's made famous for it, so why not end with it.

btw---->>>> i try to get the dvd but the dvds are expensive.

I'd love to get Highlander on DVD but unfortunately it hasn't been released on Region 2 yet (I'm in the UK) It's been promised to happen since forever but i've all but given up hope of ever seeing it released on DVD here. We get to see it on FX Channel here in the UK in the afternoon and i have every season on tape though i'm missing some eps in seasons two and three which i haven't gotten round to replacing. I haven't watched them in an age so i may dig them out for a viewing when i get the time and opportunity :)

I have the first four seasons on DVD and waiting to pick season five. Since it's getting more and more expensive I'm shopping around to get the best deal.

Season five is my favorite. The ending of that season was sad but not entirely a surprise. That particular actor was having issues with Adrian Paul getting so much attention in the media while the rest of the cast were kinda being snubbed. Sooooo, off with his head!

I read that season five would have nine discs. Wow! They must have a LOT of extras for this season.

He is Immortal, born years ago. He is not alone. There are others like him, some good, some evil. For centuries he has battled the forces of darkness, with Holy Ground his only refuge. He cannot die, unless you take his head and with it, his power. In the end there can be only one. He is Duncan MacLeod, the Highlander.

from the very first season they started to play this into. then i'm not sure when they changed to this one...

"He is Duncan MacLeod. . . the Highlander. Born in 1592 in the highlands of Scotland, and he is still alive; he is Immortal.

For 400 years, he's been a warrior. . . a lover. . . a wanderer. . . constantly facing other Immortals in combat to the death. The winner takes his enemy's head-- and with it, his power.

"I am a Watcher, part of a secret society of men and women who observe and record, but never interfere. We know the truth about Immortals -in the end, there can be only one. May it be Duncan MacLeod. . . the Highlander."

man, i love the intro.....

Really enjoyed this series, with Buffy, Stargate etc the 90s seemed to be a great time for successful movie spinoffs. For me though Connor will always be the Highlander, good as Duncan was. Some cool guest stars too, Alexis Denisoff, Claudia Christian, Tracy Scoggins etc

Highlander 2 was written by Brian Clemens who did great shows like The Professionals and The Avengers but I don't think he actually watched the original to judge by it. Still light-years ahead of Alien 3 though. Interestingly Highlander the Series keeps Highlander 2's idea of the Immortals all being foundlings so maybe they are aliens?

I liked the first movie and "End Game". The Series was good up until
about the fourth season. They had a great idea with the Dark Quickening
and could have spent a season with Duncan doing bad things he'd have
to fix in season five, but they cheapened it up by having it all cleaned
up and nice and clean within the season five opener. I really stopped
watching after this episode. After that they had demons, retards,
comedies, and "It's a Wonderful Life"-type episodes...It became
difficult to watch. Duncan was better than Connor.

Truth be told I loathed End Game, Highlander is the classic, Highlander 2 is nutso but largely a waste of Sean Connery and Michale Ironside, Highlander 3 is ok, the next 2 are pretty lame.
I liked the later seasons of the series (Methos especially good) although it was clear by season 5 they were looking for a spinoff, Duncan wasn't even in some eps. The Raven was ok but a little predictable

They did plan to set season 6 in the future, but in the end it had it's episodes cut in half and wound up being a testing ground for spin offs, which was a shame because it deserved a better send off. But hey that's Highlander for you!

Well the joy of it was if you read Secret Wars you didn't need to read any other Marvel because the gang was all there. Some nice touches too like the Beyonder putting Magneto in with the good guys because his desires seemed the same as theirs
