Be honest now, did you cry or were close? I sure as heck did! Aww, it was sad. Brilliant acting, just brilliant. Kudos to TW and AoT.

EDIT: Yeah, I got the poll to work this time! :D

No. I was too angry about Clark's character being such an imbecile that I couldn't accept anything seriously.

I came close, it was so sad. I spoiled it for myself my reading anything I could on the episode, but if I hadn't know martha would pull through I would have cried.

I like that his mom is one of the few women Clark has cried for.

...come again? Please, this can't be about Lana...

It has nothing to do with Lana. Even a 6 year old wouldn't have been fooled by Fine.

Okay, good then. And I don't think it's a matter of Clark's intelligence, he was desperate to save his Mother's life and Fine was the only one who Clark to go to about a "Kryptonian" virus.

 What was he an imbecile for?

I didn't cry, but I did think it was sad.

His mother was dying, painfuly I might add, give the kid a break.

I don't buy it. Jor-el has been warning him since last season to be on his guard. Last week, he gets a note from someone saying I know who you are and know how to kill you, etc. Fine is the only new thing in his existence, so please tell me how he isn't a suspect.

I'll be honest: that's a good point. I still think he was too desperate to save his Mom, therefore he totally put his guard down.

But did he really get a note? Or was it all in his head? Fine probably did do it so that he could push Clark further over the edge, but Clark has no idea what was real and what was only a delusion.

Also, Pa Kent warned him about Fine in this episode. I'm sorry, but Clark's character is just too stupid much of the time to be believable as a Kryptonian with superior intellect. I guess the writers decided to rewrite Superman's character as the: Last Known Nitwitted Survivor Of Krypton.

I'm really close with my mom and I did get a listtly teary-eyed.

About Clark not being super-intelligent. He was raised by "inferior" humans. He went to a small school in a small town.
He's gullible because he has a good heart and sometimes wants to see the best in people, even when they don't deserve it.
In Fine's case, Clark was desperate to find a cure for his mother and likely would've believed Lionel at the point. It was worth a try in his mind. Ya know?

I don't think Clark is stupid I just think that he is too trusting. He has been raised to believe in the goodness of most people. He is not like Chloe who would dissect everything to get to the bottom of something or like Lex who would see a conspiracy in everything. Clark just takes things at face value and it sometimes gets him in trouble. I think that he has been wonderfully manipulated by Fine to believe that he is on Clark's side as a fellow Kryptonian. As Clark said in this episode, Fine is the one who removed the silver kryptonite from his body. He believes that Fine saved him. He still thinks that Lex is the one who sent the silver kryptonite to Lana.

I was SO crying!! The tears just started falling before I could even realize it. I didn't feel ridiculous though! It was a very heart felt conversation and Clark felt responsible for what was happening to him mom. I just couldn't take the sadness in his face and voice!!

Is it stupid or gullable? I think Fine played Clark uisng ideas that Clark struggles with, so Clark focuses on those ideas rather than the obvious. He struggles with whether Lex is good or bad, so Fine plays up LuthorCorp and its questionable deeds. He struggles with whether Jor-El is good or bad, so Fine makes up a Jor-El dicator story. I don't think Clark is stupid -- although your comments are really funny, fa8362. I just think Fine concentrates on Clark's confusion and this is a really good way to misdirect someone from the OBVIOUS.

Sorry - a little off topic. But, then again, Marth's being ill just adds to all the confusion. Yes, it was a very sad scene. No, I didn't cry.

I cried during that scene. It was very noble of Martha saying that she was willing to die just so Clark could live longer.
