this was the headline of the paper Lionel was reading when he's talking to Chloe. Does anyone know what it means?
Also, at the end of the episode, at the Daily Planet with Chloe and Lois they scan past a computer screen twice that as a headline on it, but I cant seem to pause it right ti read it. If anyone can read it and knows what it means, please post here.

I don't think it means anything, they had to put something "exciting" on the newspaper after all, and catching a murderer dubbed "Metropolis Strangler" is exciting news that signals that Chloe is in the big leagues now.

ACtually, I wondered the same thing. Lionel walked right up to the camera to let us get a big view of the headline. I'm not so sure it was unimportant.

Maybe the strangeler will escape prison and Chloe will investigate the crime and be killed while Clark will be to late to stop her.

"Maybe the strangeler will escape prison and Chloe will investigate the crime and be killed while Clark will be to late to stop her."
...and half the fans will stop watching the show, killing it.

I think you are reading to much into this.

Why would a serial strangler willingly surrender to the police?
My guess is that this is a little early foreshadowing of the vilgliante Maya. Maybe Maya threatened to beat him if he didn't go or something?
Anyways I think this is a Maya foreshadows hint because they made damn sure you saw that headline loud and clear.

Actually I did notice it until this thread, and I happened to watch it again because I taped it.

This is not really a spoiler...
In yesterday's episode Lionel is reading a headline in the Daily Planet Newspaper that says: METROPOLIS STRANGLER SURRENDERS TO POLICE.
This is just a guess of what I think and not really a spoiler.
Sorry if ya think it is, it wasn't meant to be.

Well, some might see the mention of Maya as a spoiler, but i guess if none of the mods are doing anything about it, it's ok.

Could anyone see a byline on that article?

yeah, this was foreshadow for something. I don't recall any Supes bad guys who were nicknamed METROPOLIS STRANGLER. Any Superman fan boys out there? Is there a villan like that?

You could be right about the Maya foreshadowing, afterall when Chloe was sitting there in interview with Pauline Kahn in 'Thirst' she called...
"Bittleman!...bring me that piece on Senator Jennings will you?!"
That is what termed "Pre-Episodic Continuity" for that upcoming Episode "Exposed" starring Tom Wappat, JK's old friend!

I agree they made it very clear that they wanted us to see this headline.

There was a Strangler in the old old Supes comic books. We're talking like 60's. Only two appearance ... this is real obscure stuff though.
But shhhh I like the spoiler idea better.

I think it shows how much Superman is need in this city. From the slavery to stranglers Metropolis definitely needs heroes of some kind to stand up.

the story is not about Chloe and how much SV fans love her its about Clark and his journey to becoming Superman. Chloe wasn't originally apart of the Superman universe, not until fans begged the writers to put her in. To me she is a usless character that in the way of Lois career change to journalism. All she does every episode is spit out lame cliche about superman. That is annoying every episode she has to mention a silly superman quote or somthing about Clarks futureas supeman. "UP UP and Away," Actually in the real SUP's story it was Lana who first found out about CLarks secret. so Chloe really is just a mix of Lois and Lana. Pete Rose is apart of the Superman story but because he wasn't a popular character on the show he moved somewhere else. When a story becomes a popularity contest among fans. i say its time for the authors to say f it, and write the story the way he wants to write it. If the fans don't like it then don't watch it, "I got 5 season under my belt," "Im rich." face it is was the authors original writing and not worrying if the fans was pleased with the story that made Smallville popular. "I say go back to you roots, and write what u want to write."
I think the fans have too much say in what an author writes when it comes to movies, tv shows, and comics. i think the author should write what he wants to without having to worry if the fans like what he writing about. If his material is good then the fans will read it anyway. don't get me wrong somtime fan interference is good like in the old Spider-man clone story ten years ago. but now it really getting out of hand, Everyone is not gonna like a story but just cause u don't like a story doesn't mean you should try to dictate what the author should write.

Chloe was purchased by DC because they recognized a good character and they realized that a lot of Supes fans have been created by Smallville.
And just in case you weren't aware how a tv show works (or any consumer driven entertainment market, for that matter, such as tv, movies, comic books, etc.) no fans = no show. If it didn't please fans, it wouldn't exist. Even our precious Superman would have faded like so many other heros from back in the day if it weren't for his enduring popularity.
TPTB know this simple fact, and have aimed to please audiences since day one.
So, back on topic... the Strangler dude...

I have noticed alot of times that people read spoilers and then post what they think when in reality they are just posting what they have read. Not fair. Those who think they know everything are very annoying to those that do.

Purchased with NO plans to use her.
I just hate when people generalize saying half the fans will stop watching if they kill off Chloe, there's evidence of that where? This message board? I don't take that with much stock cause online viewers make up about 1/4 of the viewing public.
Plus unless people have a Nielsen box, stopping watching won't do ANYTHING ;)
Anways back to the topic, I think it was just them wanting something that would catch our eye on the front page :)

I hear you Lois and Clark Fan:)
Well there are over 4 million viewers per episode give or take, approximately 20,000 users of this site of which probably only half are active at best. Say there are 4 other sites like this to bring us up to 100,000 users. Assuming everybody is a Chloe supporter that would mean internet users account for 1/40 of the viewing. So it's not exactly large am I right?
As for the purchase rights, they probably did it so nobody can use it. Case in point, WWE which is extremely internet orientated copyrighted the name "Dudley Boys" who are a former tag team in the company. Why? Well they aren't going to give it to another tag team. The reason was because they don't want the Dudley Boys to use the name and so they now go by the name "Team 3D". So sometimes when people purchase rights on things, they do so to ensure other people don't use it themselves.
So in other words if Chloe were to die, should we all be prepared for a -0.1 in the ratings? :p

The Maya spoilers could be false, because TPTB don't want it to leak who will die, so they make up stuff. We won't know until late December or January. Maybe we'll have to wait until Reckoning aris. I think more people should read spoilers. They get mad when half of us on the site read spoilers, but I don't know.
