Ok, where can we go with this one except to say that it was another dig at another cousin this time it was Lois courtesy of Lex Luthor's low comment:

....."muffin peddling, college drop out"....

And Lois of course retaliates by trying get dirt on Lex---a sharp contrast to our sweet Chloe who months earlier in 'Mortal' was confronted by Lex's "third wheel" comment!!

Lex nailed her as just what she is, guess the truth hurts. She is a mufflin-peddling college drop-out and as we know, her unmerited ingress to that university was due to the largesse of Lex Luthor.

You nailed it too! and if I recall Clark asked Lex to do him that favor to prove his friendship by getting Lois into MET-U---only because Clark got tired of Lois and didn't want "miss smart pants" around!!:D :D

i hate to say this, but that comment was very true. the way he said it was harsh, but it was true.

but that's the kind of boost she needed so that we could get lois lane, the reporter. :D

Finally, someone who realizes who Lois really is! She's not a great reporter, a comic relief, but a muffin-peddling college drop-out. That's all she's there for and shows how far this Lois Lane is from the one I love. Chloe, who portrays all of the qualities of Lois, is the one who pushes her to be who she is? Give me a break.

I have a feeling The TPTB, are using the SUPERMAN Comic (P.C.) Lois Lane version, Where Lois will get her Job as a Reporter @ The Daily Planet by getting some dirt on Lex Luthor .

I can't wait to see what happens next, Lex has just got Mad Dog Lane , Mad and that means Lois isn't going to rest until she get's to uncover Lex's Dirty Secrets.

Sounds just like when daddy Lionel came to tell him that he couldn't keep up with his "trinkets and bobbles" referring to the missing spaceship in Lex's warehouse 15 (like Area 51 in Nevada)

Lois making fun of Lex's mental illness, now that would be juvenile. Mental illness isn't anything to be ashamed of, Chloe's own family have an hereditary condition.

Besides, it's not like Lex just walked up to her and started throwing insults around. She attacked him first :)

She wouldn't have even made it as far as dropping out of college, without some "special help" to get accepted. Lex probably doesn't respect her for throwing away an opportunity like that.

On a more serious note in regards to that scene...why is it that when Lois spends a good couple of minutes insulting Lex, HE'S the a*****e when he retaliates? Lois says he hurt her feelings, but she was happy to do the same to him....in fact, she started it as far as I remember! No wonder Lex is going evil - every single occasion in his life he's tried to be honest/kind to people he genuinely cares (or cared) about, it's been thrown back in his face, apparently without remorse.

Lois Lane in this re-telling of the Saga, is Al Gough's version of a young "rough-around-the-edges" smart pants basically and Al Gough loves this younger version of Lois Lane as the writers portray. She'll mellow out a bit when older, but still sassy!

Lex Luthor is supposed to eventually turn to the "Darkside" as he is supposed to in The Superman Story/Canon---otherwise Lex would not be Lex as Shuster and Siegel have basically written him.

The catalyst for this transformation seems to be several people he encounters in Smallville. In this case at the Talon----it's the young "rough and ready" Lois Lane!

The Talon encounter/dialog with Lois and Lex is all part of the plot line for the Kansas Senatorial Elections with Pa Kent running and the implications of it building to Episode 100 this February----which Tom Welling said is ....."going to be really, really big!":D :D :D :D :D

But Lois' remarks to Lex just make you want to bite her muffins!!

Well this thread is active, if unlike Lois, we play nice!

Alright, I'm going to be on topic! :P Or I'm just not going to take part in the muffin innuendos!

I think Lex was right about the "muffin-peddling" comment, and I'm glad he said it. Because now he's the direct reason we get to see Lois Lane transform into the woman she's meant to be! Her need for revenge is going to drive her to realize her great journalistic instincts, and maybe now she'll grow up!

When this little Lex vs. Lois war is over, I think they'll come out of it respecting each other. Honestly. He'll see that Lois is much more than a muffin-peddling drop-out and she may see something great in him that she never knew was there. Could this be the road to Lexis?

Lesson #1: Never let anyone and go off topic, especially the ones that start the thread-----meaning ME yours truly!!

You know Lois of course had it coming and if it was not for Lex's witty retaliatory remark she would not have the "motivation" to pursue Lex's Senatorial Campaign with a newly found passion to expose him.

It may be true, but it makes Lex look VERY hypocritical, last I checked wasn't he himself thrown out of school :p

Plus I don't blame Lois for what she said, she was trying to serve customers and Lex and his entourage were getting in the way of that, he should have closed the Talon down for a few hours if he wanted to have photographs taken, but no not Lex, he wouldn't be that considerate

Yeah, but he was able to become successful and run a corporation.. Lois just hangs around Smallville because she has no where else to go and no ambition to get back in college.

It is true that Lex was born with a silver spoon in his life, just as Lois had the advantages that being the daughter of a high ranking officer provides. The difference is that Lex did not sit on his thumb like Lois or doing nothing successfully but is self-motivated, even if his success will be criminal. Lois' lack of self-discipline or motivation is criminal.

Plastic muffins look okay but real is better.

Sam Lane cut Lois off and let her live on her own and as far as I know, continues to do so.

When has Lex ever done the things he does without money? In fact, I remember when Lionel cut him off, he was off shovelling cow s!@$ on Jonathan Kent's farm. So basically, he use to be along the lines of a muffin-peddler too until Lionel decided to take him back in.

Well, you can say about lex, what you want, but the fact remains he isn´t pushing muffins at the Talon, they are pushed for him! Lois´talents are wasted, she is a collegre dropout, and that´s something which shouldn´t be deffended and excused! Lex´comment wasn´t low, it was the truth! If she doesn´t like hearing it, well then maybe she should start doing something about changing it!

Lois´talents are wasted, she is a collegre dropout, and that´s something which shouldn´t be deffended and excused! Lex´comment wasn´t low, it was the truth! If she doesn´t like hearing it, well then maybe she should start doing something about changing it!

He is a college drop-out too and IMO, Lex wouldn't have gone as far as he did without Daddy's money. And BTW, I'm glad he hurt her pride but for different reasons.

Ah ah ah, truth is the virtue of all humans. Remember season one? Of course you do. Remember the pilot? Certainly.

Remember Lex's words regarding taking on the business in any fashion? A Lex who was more than willing to continue being the rich playboy without a care in the world. "I have no interest in running a cr@p factory"

So he was at one time the same as Lois, lacking direction and he found it. But I digress.

I loved the exchange. Neither of them were being nasty, proven by the smiles they kept on their faces the entire time. Lois even smiled prettily when Lex insulted her, and he seemed equally entertained and smug about her insinuations. Nobody got their "ass handed to them" on either side. Lois wasn't impressed by Lex's status at all, she didn't even feel threatened on her job security and Lex wasn't at all affected by her words. It was highly enjoyable.

And it's not plastic Steve, it's gel. Plastic surgery but they aren't actually made out of plastic.

I'm pretty sure that's what the writers had the exchange for in the first place. I just wish it had been done earlier, but oh well.

Actually, he isn´t a college dropout! I am pretty sure there was a mention sometime during season 1 or 2, I am not sure, which one of those seasons or which episode exactly, but anyway he does have a bachelor degree in something: a major and a minor, I don´t know what exactly, but the point is, he does have a bachelor degree!

My bad. Lex didn't drop out of college. Even worse, he. got. kicked. out.

Look, complain about Lois all you want. I just don't think Lex is any different and that he'd still be shovelling cow crap on the Kent farm if Lionel still continued to cut him off like he did before.

He didn´t get kicked out of college, he got kicked out of some private high school! I think it was called ´Excelsior´ or something like that!

Does Lex ever went to the college? Lionel sent him to Smallville whe he was 21 and was nothing more then a rich troublemaker playboy. Even Lex said that Clark was the one that changed his life.

Lois... Remember that she thought that Chloe was dead? Drop-out? She was even planning to go to Met U until her father said to her that she failed the semester. Later, she was kicked from the Met U for being a troublemaker (same as Lex).

Someone suggested that Lois might have missed some classes because she was most likely bailing Lucy out of some kind of jam. That makes sense to me.

The exact same father that moved to Smallville without telling to his own daughter to hide her beloved-cousin (that Lois believe was dead, but didn't stopped her to know the whole true). ;)

We don't know the true reason and until there, it's all assumptions.

Lois' lack of self-discipline or motivation is criminal.

Plastic muffins look okay but real is better.

Just to remind you, Steve, Lex came to Smallville as a punishment because he was having a playboy life only spending his dad's money, and he was older than Lois back then. Lois is 19, Lex was more than 20 years old. At least Lois is working now. Lex only started working when he was banished to Smallville. That was stated on the begining of the show and that's why all of a sudden Lionel decided to shut down Smallville plant: because Lex finally started working. Guess Lex and Lois are not that different, don't you think?

"Guess Lex and Lois are not that different, don't you think?"

Nope, they are vastly different. Lex, rightly or wrongly, playboy or not, has jumped into business big time, it is his focus along with his desire for grandeur. Nois age is somewhere between 19 and 21, but being a muffin peddling college drop-out is means that she still doesn't see the big picture. Lex saw his vision of the big picture right quick and is well along his road to success as he sees it. Lois is nowhere and nothing.

All that Lex done was being agaisnt his father. He was sent to Smallville not because he was interested on business, but the opposite. Later, he created LexCorp just to oppose his father moves, not because he was interested on business, and then he became the head of LuthorCorp because he sent his own father to jail (together with the megalomaniacal thoughts that started to appear only in season 4). Road to success? He took LuthorCorp from his father.

It does seem like Lois is slowly, but surely, starting to find her direction in life. Hopefully, she'll be doing some investigative reporting, alongside Chloe, this season.

Steve,
A little fact here: you stated that Lois is somewhere between 19 and 21: she is not. According to the PTB she is one year older than Clark, which makes her 19, because Clark is 18. That explains why she was going on her first year in College last year, and her "underage" drinking that got her expelled. If you payed attention, in Exposed they repeated again that she was underaged.

So, as I said, not much difference between Lex and Lois. At 19, they were both lost. Lex found his path when he was much older. Considering that he was expelled from highschool (according to the first season, I don't really remember which episode), there is a great possibility he didn't went to College either. Before coming to Smallville the only thing that interested him was spending his dad's money and using girls. These are facts, showed since the begining of the show, you just have to watch first season again, and you will see I'm right. The only real difference is that he is a man (some people may think that his attitudes were ok, because of that) and we didn't get to see that on the screen. We never saw lazy Lex: we knew it happened but it was never showed.

Liana: a little fact here, Nois age is discussed very clearly in the Chloe=Lois thread part 1, drawing on different episodes and different ages given. If you had paid attention to that thread, you would have noted that her age is debatable, but she is not 19. Depending upon the state one lives in, I guess Kansas in the case of Smallville, any age BELOW 21 is underage. Given Nois' failurre at graduating high school on time in the spring of her 18th year, return the next fall to Smallville H.S. to get her credits, then off to Met U. ostensibily the 2nd semester for her first semester of college and subsequent expulsion, followed by months off, yaddy yada, it is entirely possible she is 20. And without a successful semester at college.

Sorry, I sold my DVDs of the first season so I don't need to re-watch them. What I do know from the beginning of the show was that Lex is not clueless. Lois, on the other hand, is the poster girl for cluelessness.

"Funny considering Lois has done more investigating than Chloe this season but yet Chloe's supposed to be the reporter"

Yeah, I do remember Nois opening a shoe box in a closet during 'Exposed." Doesn't compare much to Chloe's footwork in the program and despite the fantasy Lois-fu, it was Chloe who successfuly investigated and found out how to get the diplomatically immune criminals arrested by Interpol. Lois, again, was clueless, but she did look at the shoe box.

So it's ok that Lex was expelled from High School, didn't do anything with his life until he was punished by his dad and decided to take vengence against him, proving him wrong. Yeah, if it's Lex, the one who is lazy, clueless and playboy, it's ok?
:\ Well, it's you opinion...

About Lois's age, the producers said she was supposed to be one year older than Clark on interviews, when they first introduced her character in the show. In a much older intehrview, when Lois was first mentioned in the show, they said that she was a few years older than Clark, but recently they said she was one year older than him. Yeah, I got to agree her age is debatable, because it seems to change all the time. When she was first mentioned, Chloe insinuated that she was in College, that was changed as well. In Gone it looked like she was 21, but then they decided to change that as well.

And about the Chloe=Lois thread, I don't usually read it. I tried, but then I saw it will be an endless discussion, because it is a matter of opinion. No one who believes that, will ever see it differently and no one who doesn't will be convinced. In the end, it's pointless and sometimes it really gets ugly. I don't like ugly arguments. You want to believe Lois is 20? Ok, it's your point. It still doesn't change the fact that she is younger than Lex was at the begining of the show, and, at that point in time, he didn't know what do with his life either.
