Who cares who made the thread first? You know that since no one has seen it yet, that this thread will get shoved to the back pages of this forum, and then someone else will make a new one once the episode finishes.

It was an amazing episode. The Brainiac/Clark fight was GREAT. And I LOVED the portal effects for trying to bring back Zod.

Though not as good as Splinter, this is easily in the top 3 best episodes.

wOW. I must say that the writers are on a roll w/ 3 pretty good episodes in a row. I voted fantastic for this. They are really toying w/ us about who will kick the bucket. Last week they hinted Chloe, now they are hinting Jonathan. Also, I am really liking where they are taking Lionel's character.

MarkAllan22

I LOOOOOOOVED this episode. One of the best of the entire series, IMO.

Lois/Lex fued, Lois finally starting to turn the corner towards journalism, Fine/Clark fight(Marsters did a great job in revealing himself), Clark/Chloe interaction, Lex/Lionel, and Clark realizing that Lana might have lied to him.

You can't get a much better episode, IMO.

10/10, A+, 100/100.

I thought it was terrific. Kudo's to the writers, actors, and directors. They have really stepped up to the plate this year. The scenes between Tom and Annette and Choloe's rescue just strengthens Clark's love for the human race. The fight at the FOS was awesome. Smack down at the FOS. How great was that?!!

I really liked this episode!

At times it had me on the edge of my seat! I liked all the different story lines, to me they all seemed really well thought out and well put together.

Loved the scenes with Chloe and Lois. Loved Chloe coming to Clark's rescue :)

Clark and Brainiac before the fight made me want to rip my hair out, because I couldn't believe how incredibly naive Clark was being.

I liked the nod with Lois and the Daily Planet.

Terrific episode, can't wait for more!!!

I'll begin... ;)

-----------------------------------

How Soon Hath Time

Chloe is going to be the loved one who meets fate's scythe as week by week Clark and Chloe are slowly becoming closer. Chloe's endearing nature and actions will have her fade to black by this season's conclusion. Afterwhich, Clark and his parents will be the sole guardians of Clark's true powers and identity. That is -- until Lois finds out, thusly segueing into Season Six.

To the Lord General... Zod

Pardon the Miltonian titles, as I've recently been refreshing my John Milton reference bank.

In any event, I am not satisfied with Clark defeating Milton Fine (Brainiac) so easily. It was hardly the epic battle I was expecting their encounter to be, with Clark simply tossing Fine across the screen and onto a suddenly extendable bay of crystals. Using the comic books as a guide, Brainiac should have easily rendered Clark harmless and should not have been unaware to Chloe's presence. However, Smallville is a separate entity, and I accept their adaptation.

As of now, I do believe General Zod will make an appearance this season. During the season premiere, Arrival, I thought it was a mere reference. However, it's recurrence has me jumping off the fence. Although, like Brainiac, Zod should easily kill this developmental stage of Clark. Though, once more with feeling, this is an individual entity from the comics and movies, and may lead to specific amendments.

I also thought this was an Excellent Episode. I really like how the writers are developing CK into his role as Superman. I also loved the interaction between the characters. The FOS scene was AWESOME!!! and Chloe being there to save the day. I also loved Lex's expression when he confronted Lionel about the missing ship, so what's Lex going to tell Lana? Splinter & Solitude are IMO the best episodes to date.

I thought the episode was really good. It was a close race, trying to beat Splinter from last week, but I think Solitude really hit the mark. The final battle scene in FOS was awesome and it was great seeing a blurb of ZOD in PZ. I just wish that when Brainiac put the kryptonite on Clark, Lion-el would arrive and beat the crap out of Brainiac. Then it would have been a double team father and son bonding thing, trying to defeat Fine.

Did not like this episode. Very mundane, pretty unoriginal with the whole "Martha dying" storyline, and I thougt they resolved the Prof. Fine thing too fast. Well, they didn't QUITE resolve it but you know what I mean. Not to mention Lois has never been more annoying.

SnarkMasterJ
11-18-2005, 08:56 AM
Since there's no happy medium between "okay" and "FANTASTIC", I went with fantastic, just 'cause overall, it was a pretty great episode.

The presence of "Lois" always gets my goad, but the fact that Lex slammed her so magnificently made up for her nuisance...almost.

Great storyline with Braniac/Clark/Martha and the whole pseudo destruction of the FoS -- made for great TV.

The Chlark was AWESOME. Chloe saves the day, yet again, and we got a great scene by the fireplace where Clark was grateful for all she does for him. Good stuff man.

And there was NO. LANA. How often has that happened in the past five seasons? Cause for celebration, if you ask me. :D

8.5-9/10. Not bad, PTB.

I loved this ep, even though there was no Lexana! Its been a long time since I even liked non-Lexana eppy, much less loved. What would have made this ep even better is if they showed a Lexmas trailer at the end! I don't know where K-Site got those caps, but is not what they showed in my area!

So anyone that thinks opposite of what you think isn't being honest? Come on son! I didn't like it very much. It was entertaining but too contrived. I didn't like that they dumbed down Brainiac. I didn't like that they made him a Kryptonian program when he was no such thing in the comics. Unless they just created a new badguy and we are all jumping the gun and calling him Brainiac. I don't think we ever used his real name. Oh well... Plus he was way too easily found out. "Brainiac" was pretty stupid as it turned out in Samllville universe. He should have been able to wipe the floor with Clark. Clark is still a VERY inexperienced kid. His fighting skills are far from what they should be to deal with someone with his same abilities and MUCH more experience. And they make Clark a freaking idiot too. For a superirorly intelligent alien he can be easily manipulated. Even AFTER all the crazy stuff he's been through. And after all this time he still doesn't acknowledge the obvious. Dear ol dad isn't the villan and should be trusted. Clark needs a Kryptonian to come out and open a whole case of whoopass on him. Maybe Jorel? "Son, this is gonna hurt me more that it's gonna hurt you..." LOL

Clark will get there! Sounds like you are expecting a little too much out of Clark at this juncture. IMHO, Chloe saving Clark showed his connection with the human race. Also, IMHO, Jor-El and Prof. Fine have referred to the human race in terms of being "flawed" or "pathetic", etc. Well, I put forth the idea that the Kryptonian race is not perfect. Maybe there are things that Jor-El can learn from humans--oh, and vice versa, of course.

His physical fighting ability is where it should be at this point in his life. I'm saying they are throwing bad guys at him that outclass him at the moment. It's kinda like sending in a seasoned heavy weight boxer in the ring with a newbie light weight. Odds aren't even remorely in the little guy's favor. They should keep the camoe bad guy appearances down and get back to giving him bad guys more his speed. Plus a good ass kicking once in a while builds character. :-) Jorel understands the human race just fine. remember he liked it here. He liked the people. This is why he sent his son here. To help save us from ourselves pretty much. Let's face it we are our own worst enemies. Selfless acts from your average Joe is pretty rare when the chips are down. I think this is what Jorel was talking about when he speaks of our flaws and our tendancy to think with our hearts more often than with our brain. It's just my take on it. :-)

In response to Brainiac's "death". Yea it was a tad cheesy, they tossed each other around the room a couple times and then Brainiac (or Spike as some of us know him as) gets impaled, but you have to remember this is only around the middle of the series. They're not gonna whip out the big action-packed Clark/Brainiac and/or Zod showdown yet. They're saving that for the very end.

This was a wonderful episode with a mixture of Kal-El and Clark Kent. The scene between Clark and his mother was so well acted. AO has got to be one of the most underrated actors on the series. One thing that bothered me in respect to that particular storyline is that it left me wondering how much Jonathan really loves his wife. Or maybe it was that time constraints did not allow for that and that it was more important to the continuity of the series to show the love between parent and child. The scenes with Lex and Lionel were not only well acted, but I believe to be symbolic of the future of the series. I felt that Chloe's role in this episode was a bit contrived (althouth I like Chloe and Allison Mack) Lois provided some comic relief, particularly with her confrontation with Lex-and Lex turned it around. Well done, Lex. I do not believe that the story arc involving Prf. Fine/Brainiac is completed. He will be back-probably a new and improved modal. As for Lana fans, they will not like what I am going to say, but I did not miss her in this episode. I think that her presence in this episode would have been extremely difficult to blend in-unless Clark was going to tell Lana his "secret".

I never wondered about that one. He seemed completely in love with her to me.

Lana_Lang #1

I've never doubted how much Jonathan and Martha love each other.

Look at past scenes of them hugging, kissing, holding hands, near death hospital scenes, Martha's constant worry about his heart, Jonathan's constant want for her not to worry and to be happy, and those magical and emotional Kent Family moments.

If you are referring to the fact that Jonathan wanted to take Martha to the hospital instead of hearing Fine out, imagine it from Jonathan's point of view:

You're wife is sick with a flesh eating disease, you have discovered that your son's history professor is another Kryptonian and that you have already taken your wife to the hospital and gotten medicine to make her better.

Suddenly your son comes home with this other kryptonian, who starts looking over your wife, asking question and completely pushing you out of the way and off to a corner.

You know from past interactions that other kryptonian cannot be trusted and are potentially deadly.

So why the hell should you trust this guy? Why? When it seems safer to just take your wife back to the licensed professionals at the hospital?

There is no question how much Jonathan loves his wife. He loves her more than life itself.

Kent_Girl

I agree with Lana Lang#1:

There is no question how much Jonathan loves his wife. He loves her more than life itself.

I was completely crying during that scene too.

I totally broke when Clark said "Is there anything I can get you? Is there anything you need?".

Just the sound of his broken heart and the intense sadness just broke down my emotionally barriers and I started crying!

They were both so brillant!

I loved it, especially the scenes with Martha where he tells her she's his heart. Darn, I wish I'd taped it so I could get his whole speech down. But that really resonated with me, making me remember my own mother and how important she has always been to me.

And the great Chlark at the end too.

The only thing that brings this down from Memoria territory for me is Clark's gullibility, but at least he picked up on that himself so the lad is learning!

"Solitude" rocked! Sure, it felt like it was slightly treading on what had already been done in "Fever" with Martha being ill, but it still had so many very powerful moments, including the Clark/Martha, Clark/Jonathan, Clark/Brainiac, and Clark/Chloe scenes. The fireplace conversation at the end is one of my favorite Chlark scenes. :D I'll give this 9 fake Kryptonian diseases out of 10!

I vote bad.

S5 in general Clark is way to depressed and this yet another in a long line of episodes that "my life sucks". I could have lived with the depressed Clark and said it was average but this episode has one of the most idiotic saves in the history of the show when Chloe runs up to the FOS to grab a piece of kryptonite off of Clark's chest, then he tells her how wonderful she is later. To me that is basically dumbing down Clark to build up how "great" Chloe is and that is a huge no no in my books and just ruins any good feeling I had about this episode.

There basically was no reason to shoehorn Chloe into that FOS scene other then to cater to her fanbase how "wonderful" she is and that to me is a huge problem in writing that they don't seem to care enough about Clark and rather pander to shipper fanbases. Whenever I do rants why I hate the character of Chloe come S5, this will always be the first piece of evidence I will use to support my belief that they basically dumbed down Clark to shoehorn Chloe into the plotline where she wasn't needed, usually resulting in Clark looking bad.
