ok we know clark can go see chloe in metropolis whenever he wants, for chatting or finding clues.

but when chloe and lana go back and forth easily between the two cities, to ask questions that could have been asked over the phone or via email, it just seems a little too easy to put people in scenes together.

i mean they already wrote up a bogus story about applying late to college around halloween time just to get lana to metropolis. if they wanted everyone together all the time, they should have just kept them all at the same school...kinda like 90210.

yeah, cause an entire ep of ppl talking over the phone would've been really interesting.

Why did Clark take the truck in the first place? He can run and be there in an instant....as in "Thirst".

Lana made two trips to Smallville in one day...that's alot of driving:p

but i agree with DGreen they kind of had to do that because an episode filled with phone conversations would've been so boring!!!

Maybe he was going to take Lana to lunch somewhere. :)

yea, like Dgreen said, it would have been very interesting see them speak on the phone the whole episode.

When you really think about it, there is a lot of time that passes between the scenes in the episode.

Second time Chloe comes into see Lana to warn her about Clark, Clark could have easily been waiting in her room for hours waiting for Lana to show up. That could have given Chloe plenty of time to show up.

for sure, each scene happens so we can get people in together on the scene. no reason to have lex by himself and lana by himself, with both of them having a 1 minute conversation.

but the idea of driving 3 hours to say thanks, getting into an argument and heading back 3 hours...or coming to check on clark for 3 hours, find he's beating up his parents, then drive back another 3 hours still looking for him...eh, that's a little convenient.

let's say eg, in the TV series "lois and clark"..there was a lot of phone conversations between clark and his parents. it was short enough to keep those two characters as regulars in the show, so it didnt seem like the whole episode is about phone conversations.

when clark needs to be there at his parents' farm and they film a scene together, it's because *we* know he can be there in no time.

this is all i'm saying..clark is the central character, he can be at any scene with any people. but the others like lana and chloe, is stretching a lot to have them in both places in what is effectively still the same day..not even the next weekend.

I totally agree that there is too much back & forth traveling between Metropolis & Smallville. Lana (or any of the other characters) going there 2 times in 1 day was especially weird, don't she, Chloe & clark have classes? Clark should only be up at Met U on weekends & Holidays. From all the traveling, you get the impression they all still live in Smallville!

I guess it has to be that way for the sake of plot logistics.

The only one who should be able to commute easily between Smallville and Metropolis is Clark (and he should only be at Met U. on weekends). He's a full-time student, so he's got to be spending at least 30 hrs or more on class & readings combined. He's still do some chores too!

If they wanted to make it realistic, Lana, Chloe and Lex would be having cellphone conversations most of the time ("I gotta run, my cell's out of range/low battery" would be a regular complaint from them!) -- since it takes so long to get to the city and back.

It's not just Chloe and Lana. Other characters have no problem going back and forth from Metropolis. In Season 2, Martha and Lionel commuted to Metropolis and now Lex does that in Season 5. They should've either made Metropolis closer to Smallville or have the characters talk on cellphones.
