Was I the only one to notice that Fine extracting the silver K from Clark was pretty much the same exact scene as Trinity extracting the homing device from Neo in The Matrix?

This is the show that's been ripping off 'bullet-time' for four and a half seasons...

"Clearly that was the 240c series, and in beta trial, not the 260beta version with the glaivin and the sucking and ohh that hurts my stomach!"

I thought of the Matrix too when I saw that scene.

Different body part, sure, but still pretty darn close.

That's true, but how many ways are there to show superspeed? Everything goes back to The Matrix as far as visual effects goes. Same thing happened with Terminator 2.

However, this wasn't the only way to remove the silver k. Fine could have always beaten Clark to a pulp and purified the blood. :p After all, blood purification really worked for Lex. ;)

I didn't, I guess I was the only one engrossed by Smallville. And not thinking about other junk when such a kick ass episode is going on.

Not a rip-off, an homage. :p

The Matrix effects have been part of our culture since 1999. They helped paved the way for bullet time to happen. It is only natural to use the technology.

So was I. I didn't think of this until long after I saw the episode.

Come to think of it, homage is a better word. I'm trying to type too fast and not picking out the best words. :(

Yes it was kinda similar to Trinity using the vaccum device to suck the tracking bug device out of Neo's belly button. Im just curious how it was able to penetrate Clarks skin.

Yeah the Matrix "bullet time" effect's have been used wayyyyyy too much, in movies and TV shows like Smallville but since the very 1st time I saw NEO fly in THE MATRIX RELOADED, I imediatly thought of how they can now make Superman fly in Superman Returns without it looking cheesy.

I like the way they have shown Clark fly on Smallville with a television budget but compared to NEO flying in the Matrix its NOTHING!!!!

but you have to wonder, how many other shows before Matrix have used a sucking device to suck out some kind of tracer or entity from a human?

see, bullet-time is definitely a matrix thing. but sucking up things from various bodies locations so as the save the victim..i think that is public domain.

Yeah, I can't remember ever seeing that anywhere else, but then again I haven't seen everything ever made either.

If anything, I thought it was cool. It's not like I'm mad because it is similar. I was just making an observation and used "rip-off" when I should have said "homage".

Rip-off, Homage whatever. SV may of took something from the Matrix but the Matrix took something from Superman, like when I first went to see Matrix Reload and as I was sitting there watching the movie Neo begins to leap into the air and fly I thought it was a little corny and said to myself , "what does think hes Superman? I was like GEEZZZZZ. Even in the movie there was a line, "Wheres Neo? Oh hes doing his Superman thing."

I saw this thread before watching the episode, and only actually looked into it when i was done watching... I thought "Matrix Rip-Off".. What the..? I see what you're getting at, but even now I still don't think, god, you're right.. that was such a matrix rip-off. They needed a way to show us, the splinter coming out of his body, him being cured.

'Twas a good way of doing it.

probably looked cooler than him pulling out some tweezers and snagging the splinter from his finger

To just reach in and pull it out might have been a bit too bloody for the censors

Similarity? Absolutely. But a rip-off?

Just because something was used in a popular movie doesn't mean that movie owns it forever.

My thoughts exactly!

It's a slight nod to each other's contributions to each other.

The companies of the Matrix and Superman clearly respect each other quite highly.

hmm.....let me say. WHO CARES!!

Just watch the show and enjoy it, quit comparing it to everything geez.

I like to watch Smallville, not break it down to every little detail of which movie they have ripped off. Besides, the Matrix has ripped off from other concepts as well.

The Matrix didn't invent bullet-time. It's been in existence long before that. The Matrix popularized its usage.

But there have been other instances where Smallville is just blatantly ripping off The Matrix. Clark's prepartion for flight in "Crusade" and his super jump in "Hidden" were taken from effects in the movie. In this episode Fine taking out the Silver K was done in a same manner as in the movie.
