From brief snippets I've read of the comic stories, if Brainiac really is some sort of super computer then I don't think Lana would be his type. I think he'd put the moves on Kenmore appliances before he bothers with puny humans ;)

Brainiac knew that Clark would reget his decision, he stopped him to get him to trust him so he could eventually unleash his plans

He didn't let her die, because he knows how much that would affect Clark. It would kill him! How can Braniac manipulate Clark if he's depressed? Some might say easily, but I think Clark might have never used his powers again if he had killed Lana. That's just my ten cents.

smallvillerocks45, i like your ten cents...but it just seemed awkward to see Fine stop Clark from killing Lana, Fine did start this mess...why stop it...just made Fine look very weak

hmm, but did Fine start it all? He probably did. I think he started it, because it opened windows for Clark to finds stuff out that he otherwise never would have...such as Lex and Lana secretly discussing space ships. I think Fine is counting on Clark finding out that Lana lied to him about discussing it,and him finally realizing that maybe humans aren't as trust worthy as he thought.

I'll agree with a couple people who already said it. He didnt let Clark kill Lana because then he wouldnt be able to manipulate him later on. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. You want to bring someone down? Then pretend to be their friend and gain their trust so you could destroy them from the inside out.
