I think I've finally found out my jonathan is running for senator.

It kinda took me back to season 2 in that one episode about that lady that could "see" the future. And i also took me back to season 4's "Scare" How lex would become president and destroy the world. I think that the reason why Jonathan is running for senator is because thats how the writers set it up. I mean, Lionel did say , "Even if Lex becomes president of the united states, he would end up destroying the earth...." Ithink thats what he said, something close to that. So, wut do you guys think?

I think he's running to stop a Luthor from corrupting Smallville. And the "President of the United states" line was good foreshadowing. Kudos to the writers (And the actors, in this case, John Glover, for delivering the line like it was a casual comment, and not foreshadowing).

What Lionel fails to realize is that by refusing to give Lex power now, Lex's taste for it will grow to the point where he'll want to rule the earth first instead of gradually working towards it.
