Well guys,I dont know how many GB fans are here, but years have passed after GHOSTBUSTERS II was made...
Hey it was made back in 1989....
I wonder why there hasnt been a GHOSTBUSTERS III....
Surely that the cast and crew could have done it sometime in the 1990s,but for some reason they didnt.
After the first movie came out,a TV series,THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS was made.Sure it was animated but it was a
fun TV show. After The Real Ghostbusters ended, then came
Slimer! and the Real GB....the show was focuisng more on the green ghost, but as many of you know, the show had a very poor existence.
I dont know how old is the original GB cast now
(Bill Murray,Dan Aykroyd,Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson),
but it would be nice to see them again in one final movie.
I read somewhere that Mr Aykroyd (Ray Stanz) wrote a script,
but I dont know anything else.
Is the Ghostbusters franchise dead? There was another show,
EXTREME GHOSTBUSTERS,but I guess its not as popular as the original was.
Maybe a GHOSTBUSTERS III may be focused in a new cast,
based upon EXTREME GHOSTBUSTERS....but I wonder why
the original cast declined to do a sequel after Ghostbusters II?
Any idea if a GHOSTBUSTERS III movie could be possible in the future?I liked GB II but not as much as the original....
By the way...when is the Real Ghostbusters series coming out on DVD?

I've been following these movies forevrer and constantly watch the DVDs. I've bought both DVD releases but any way back to the topic at hand...
GHOSTBUSTERS 3 isn't happening due to conflicts with the creative team.
Akyroyd wrote a script but Harold Ramis wants no part in the mix. Bill Muarry would only come back if he was a ghost in the movie . Essentially, it boils down to pure conflicts with everyone.
The next best thing in my mind comes from an independent studio, BRAXTAN FILMS. They created a sequel/spin-off where a new team of Ghostbusters fight off Freddy Kruger:
www.braxtanfilm.com
They are currently developing a sequel.
There is also an animated series with the orginal cast of characters available for download. Just go through the same link and you'll find it.

A Ghostbusters III sequel might be done in a couple of years to revive the dead franchise.
However how to do the story right? The original cast are older now, working on different things. What kind of new supernatural threat could they face? How about the Ghostbusters Vs Dracula?
I know there was an animated series dealing with vampires,
but it wouldnt hurt to see that adapted to the silver screen
with a new set of actors posing as the new Ghostbusters...
Just take Slimer out of the picture please!
LexLuthorMetropolis

The original draft had them facing the Devil himself and whatever forces he brought to the forefront.
Silmer's going to be attached either way. His part of the mythos anymore and fans constantly use him, all the shows use him, and well he's involvement is there.
They would continue to deal with Oscar and Dana in GB3 as well, but all the various reasons stopped the film from happening.
I'm still with you though. I want to see another GBs.
Evolution was close but not by a long shot.

Ghostbusters,as a movie series had a lot of potential.
I am not a big fan of Ghostbusters II,it could had been better...
I dont know why the cast and crew didnt started to work on
Ghostbusters III after part II,or maybe there wasnt going to be another sequel....
Although I like more The Real Ghostbusters TV series than the II movie...hmmmm maybe in a future Ghostbusters III we could see
Oscar Barret as a new Ghostbuster!
Did you noticed that the character of Dana Barret was missing
from the TV series?
Also, there was an episode sequel to the first movie, what happened after the battle with Gozer....

I didn't like how they made Winston a virtual non-character in the second movie, he was barely in it!!!
I think the main reason why is because #1, they're old, but #2, Bill Murray and Harold Ramis don't like each other anymore, something happened when they were filming "Groundhog Day" and they have never reconciled. :(

Yeah, I love that episode. Tied everything up nicely and like the show keep going. Whereas the movie sequel went its own way.
Hated the lack of respect for Winston, too.

Ghostbusters II wasnt that bad after all,it had very nice moments.
However,I really loved the chemistry that the original cast had, they seemed to enjoy making the movie.
I hope Harold Ramis and Bill Murray solve their differences,
it would be nice to see them again in another Ghostbusters
movie....Although it would be a good idea to start working on a new Ghostbusters TV series...
A new Ghostbusters TV show would revive the franchise...
Maybe based upon Extreme Ghostbusters??

If anything I feel the fans are really taking over the franchise these days:
www.braxtanfilm.com has released a spin-off/sequel FREDDY VS. GHOSTBUSTERS, which has an already developing sequel in the works. The film has also tied itself into an online animated series:
http://www.nightsquad.net/GBTAS/GhostbustersAnimatedSeries.htm
Involving the original cast of characters.
Sony is releasing the Real Ghostbusters animated series on DVD after waiting forever and Sony has also been sponsoring a new comic book picking up exactly where the first film left off.

There are some Real Ghostbusters dvds coming out at the end of February.
Ghostbusters is my favorite movie. I'd love to see a new film but I think it'd have to be a new cast.
One of Akroyd's original ideas for Ghostbusters was how there would be different precincts of ghostbusters around the world. If a new movie gets made that's the idea they should go with. That why you could have all sorts of cool, funny actors in it.

I used to have a lot of the toys. Those were really really good toys. Come to think of it... *heads off to eBay*
And I'm really glad that third movie never got made. Lame.

The only bad thing about this is that the Real Ghostbusters DVDs are being sold separatedly, and the Real GB CD soundtrack doesnt exist anymore. Why didnt they realeased the animated series complete in a Box set????
Plus I think that the Real GB soundrack CD was cool,it had pop songs from the 80s,dont you think that it should be reissued?
Right now its out of print I guess....
They might do another Ghostbusters movie with the
Extreme GB characters....too bad that the original cast wasnt avaiable after the 1989 sequel.
Any ideas why they couldnt do Ghostbusters III after 1989??

The last update on GB3 from GHOSTBUSTERS HQ:
Compound about the film, but hey- I still feel like shedding a tear.

Does GHOSTBUSTERS 3 Have A Ghost Of A Chance?
Hey folks, Harry here... Well, shucks... For all of those hanging on to hopes about seeing a third GHOSTBUSTERS film... well, it looks like it is as dead as a dead thing what can't move at all. And from the looks of it, it is all Bill Murray's fault!!!
SO... At least you now know who to direct angry frustrated thoughts at. At a press conference for his latest film, Denys Arcand's "Stardom", here at the TIFF [Toronto International Film Festival], Dan Aykroyd was asked what was happening with Ghostbusters 3. Bluntly, he said "it's dead".
He described it as "a combination of not getting the right story, and the business side of things.". He also stated the primary reason was that Bill Murray didn't want to be involved, and that they all pretty much agreed there wouldn't be much point in doing it without him. He also said that it was a relief when they finally made the decision and he was happy just working as an actor. To my eye though, those statements seemed a tad contrived.

Boy talk about old news!Do you remember the other TV show,
GHOSTBUSTERS? It was a Filmation production and had nothing to do with the 1984 film.It featured different characters and it was supposed to be funny. The ghostbusters were named
Eddie and Tracy,I think, and there was a gorilla working with them.
The ghosts had a leader,Prime Evil, who was a robot or something like that...anyway while the original 1984 film was set in
New York, the other GB s city was never named...
The EctoOne was instead a crazy old car that could speak,
it could even fly.Anyway, this TV series was the reason why
THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS was named.
Hmmmm it would be fascinating if a feature film based upon
Filmation s GB is ever filmed...

It would likely go Direct to Video knowing the market.
Filmation Ghostbusters isn't even related to the Columbia Studios Ghostbusters. It was based on a live action TV series, which starred two comedians and a gorilla named Tracy that dealt with ghosts every week. The animated show was another take on it.

Sounds interesting! I don't think I have heard of it though.
I would definately like to see a Ghostbusters 3 made, but its been so long and the actors are definately looking older now, maybe it could be like a new generation of ghostbusters!

I finally got a copy of the book "Making Ghostbusters." It was published in 1985 and includes the fourth draft of the script as well as several production photos, behind the scenes stuff and artwork. Some of the pre production art made it to the dvd of the first films, some didn't. The book also details deleted scenes, scenes that were scripted and shot or scripted and never shot.
"Making Ghostbusters" is a must have for hardcore Ghostbusters fans, it can be pricey ( I had to get my copy of ebay), but its totally worth it. Its fascinating.

I've got the old Ghostbusters 2 novel.

The original Ghostbusters movie (1984) had certain deleted scenes that can be found in the original DVD realese.
The first 2 movies were sold separatedly, while GB I had a very cool animated menu GBII DVD s menu wasnt animated.
The first DVD from Ghostbusters had the deleted scenes section.
Too bad they didnt included the deleted footage,it was interesting. The movies were later rerealesed in a 2 pack
special presentation,apparently restored.
The new GBII realese had 2 Real Ghostbusters episodes....
I wish Columbia realesed the entire Real GB as a one pack
DVD set...

I used to have the Ghosterbusters II book! I got it when I was like in 1st or 2nd grade because everyone knew I was obsessed with Ghostbusters!! I don't know what ever happened to it...Man, I wish I took better care of that thing, cuz now I really wanna read it!

One thing is for sure:We will never see the original Ghostbusters together again. Too much time has passed after Ghostbusters II,it was filmed in 1989....Although it seems that Dan Aykroyd is interested in doing another film,it is not the case for the rest of the cast.It seems that Bill Murray and Harold Ramis doesnt speak to each other anymore, besides Murray wanted to be a ghost in the movie...weird...
Sigourney Weaver (Dana Barret) might not want to be part of a third film either,Harold Ramis (Egon Spengler)wasnt interested in the project. And about Ernie Hudson...(Winston) I am not sure that he wanted to return to be Winston Zeddemore.
It is a shame, because the original cast had a very nice quimestry,
and they could had done another movie maybe 2 years after Part II.
Anyway how about doing a Ghostbusters Live Action TV series???
Note:A new Ghostbusters TV series with a new cast of course...

Figures.
I do agree with you on the Extreme Ghostbusters route, but maybe they can revamp the original team just like they did in the comics just with different actors (though that thought does turn me off a bit). Nearest I've found to the next step up was what I posted ages ago in the thread with Freddy vs. Ghostbusters.

I didnt liked Extreme Ghostbusters, somehow the new characters doesnt seem to belong in the ghost busting business.
They try to be copies of the original, but they arent funny at all plus the animation of the show its terrible I liked better the
Real Ghostbusters animation.
I hated the fact that the original Ghostbusters leaved and
had Egon behind only to teach the "new students".
Was there an explanation as to why the original GB leaved the
animated show?I mean they could had continued with the
original GB.they were animated isnt that so?
I dont think that the new GB fit the shoes of Peter,Ray,Egon and
Winston......
Maybe they could try harder in a feature film version...

They actually brought back the original Ghostbusters team at some point for a two parter entitled "Back in the Saddle" I believe. Just don't remember why they disbanded. I've got the Pilot for EGB somewhere.
The thing is they weren't the original team and I thought they made they clear from the get-go. They upgraded, had their own personalities, had their own issues, even went as far as challenging things.
The show was also meant to attract a newer fan base, so they introduced the characters. The show itself only lasted for 2 years or so.

ghostbusters 3 is being made. however it wont be a typical movie. the movie is actually going to be a video game. its going to take place right ater the second movie and is going to use the voices of the original cast and is being written by the same guy i think. the characters are also going to be made to look the way they did in the movie.

Raimis and Aykroyd (Egon and Ray) wrote the first and second. They will also be writing for the game and lending their voices.
Preliminary gameplay footage shows scenes from the first movie. How this fits in with the game being a sequel doesn't make much sense... It could just be a playable level that has nothing to do with the single player campaign, or there could be some weird time travel involved, or you might have to "beat Ghostbusters 1 and 2" to get to the new story... No word yet on how it fits in.

Aw, my son will be so disappointed that there will be no Ghostbusters 3 movie. I bought the 2 movie disc set last year. Even made a cake with the Ghostbusters symbol on it for Hallowe'en. We've got the theme song on one of our hits of the 80's cds. My 3 year daughter requests it in the car all the time so she can yell out Ghostbusters!

X-Play reported today the game production has been halted. It seems the game producers don't own the intellectual property rights. They have the movie rights, but Activision has maintained the rights governing game development since the 80s.
Harold Ramis is trying to buy the rights from Activision, but they aren't budging. It looks like they'll have something to do with this game now-- if it ever gets released.

Man I just wish that Ghostbusters 3 would be made as a live action movie rather than a video game cause not everyone has a PS3 of an XBOX 360 so if Ghostbusters 3 is a video game then not everyone will be able to check it out. Ghostbusters 3 would get more response from people if it is made live action. But unfortunately Bill Murray doesnt want to do any more live action movies so that kind of messed up the plans for a live action movie.

They released it for the home computer market too, and was a decent game, if a little repetitive. There's a new, updated PC version doing the rounds on the 'net that's well worth checking out.
