View Full Version : Not watching tonight

You know, last weeks trailer clinched it for me - I'm not watching tonight. There's some good stuff happening this episode. There's supposed to be Clark/Chloe/Lois investigating, lots of Metropolis and a reunion of the Good Ole Boys. I'm sure there's plenty of other stuff going on as well. However, watching last week's trailer, it was made very clear that Lois posing as a stripper is the reason to watch. Don't get me wrong - I'm all for investigativeLois, and she needs to do more on the show anyway. But when the entire ad centers around a 'gentleman's club' (an oxymoron if I've ever heard one), complete with Lois making referrences which, when taken out of context, suggest prostitution - I'm sorry, I'm out. I won't support it. Won't even tape it.

The saddest thing is that I'm sure I won't be the only one tonight who doesn't tune in for the above reasons. Not that that's sad, but that TPTB seem incapable of learning from last season's mistakes.

I get the feeling alot of people will watch this ep. I think you should give it a chance before you judge the ep.

Well you missed a good episode by not watching simply based on the trailers. There was some very fun stuff, especially the Clark pulling down a helicopter to save Lois scene.

There has only been one episode that I thought looked terrible, and that was Recruit. But, did I not watch, did I not give it a fair shot? Wrong! I watched, I just had a couple of Jaeger Bombs first in case things went down hill I could drink more and not remember it. I was very glad I watched, as Recruit had 2 or 3 very redeeming moments.

The moral of the story - don't refuse to watch based on trailers if you like Smallville for the most part. Give it a fair shot first. Now, if you totally hate Smallville and all it stands for...well...I wouldn't watch, but feel free if you want. ^_^

Also Smallville trailers are notorious for being misleading. Ususally the worse the trailer the better the ep......but not always.

I dont understand the point of not watching an episode. Its best not to judge by trailers, its just a hook to get people who dont normally watch to tune in.

Plus I like to say I have seen every episode.

If you actually like the show, you will watch every episode. I mean, you become a member of Kryptonsite, and post a lot; but not watch one episode because of too much sex appeal.

What is up with that?

omg nooooo not sex appeal XD you think people would get over it we are in a world that lives on sex appeal big deal if 1 episode has way more sex appeal then others <.<

I obviously disagree. I love the show, yet didn't watch this ep. It's the only ep I haven't seen, though I wish I hadn't seen Spell or Unsafe, for the same reasons.

As a fan of the show, it only make sense that I want it to continue being successful and being the show I originally fell in love with. If there's something going on that either changes what the show is or hurts the show then as a fan who cares, I feel obligated to object to it.

Just to clarify, I don't object to 'sex appeal'. Lana's unnaturally pretty face qualifies as 'sex appeal', yet i watch the show. Lois in a bikini qualifies as 'sex appeal', yet I watched, and had no problems with it.

What I do have a problem with is gimmicky writing that shoehorns such things into a story. I have problems with advertising that ignores the best points of a product but focuses on the base and poor quality. For moral reasons I object to depictions of premarital sex, gratuitous innuendo, what I consider to be immodest dress and themes that contradict those beliefs.

You don't necessarily have to agree with any of that, but I know that others do. I normally watch every week with a group that fluxuates between 10 and 15. We watch, we laugh, we cheer. When Clark super-jumped in Hidden, we cheered like football fans. We've been watching like this for a couple years.

Last week, we didn't even watch. Though I'm only one poster, I personally know ten people that decided not to watch for the very reasons I've sited. Other fans I know that chose to watch complained about what was in the episode, with the same objections I had.

I hold my beliefs before my devotion to a tv show. Wouldn't you know it, tv just doesn't take priority to what I consider to be right or wrong. So don't tell me to get over it.

Most important to YOU is the fact that if others feel the same, then they will act the same. That means fewer viewers, and if viewership drops too low, the show ends. You should worry about anything that people object too, because it hurts a show that you seem to like too.

wait. so u didn't watch the show because of the way they advertised it? even though you knew there was more to the story than stripper lois. i don't understand that one tiny bit.

"For moral reasons I object to depictions of premarital sex, gratuitous innuendo, what I consider to be immodest dress and themes that contradict those beliefs."

Unfortunately, MyOwnSuperhero, despite your moral grandstanding, there’s nothing more mainstream in America then the porn industry. Porn has ingratiated and insinuated itself into every form of media including prime time television shows aimed at relatively young viewers, in fact, especially at shows aimed at young viewers. Porn generates, conservatively, upwards of 15 billion dollars in revenue, more than the merchandising of the NFL, MLB and the NBA combined and ironically its morally charged diatribes like yours that fuel its success. The pervasion and capitalistic greed motivating the production, distribution and consumption of pornographic content enjoys a strangely reciprocal relationship to the puritanical spirit catalyzing those who decry the spread of x-rated material. Just as the presence of Clark will uncannily produce a formidable villain to rise up and challenge him, (members of this board have cited Clark for actually hastening Lex’s descent into evil) moral asceticism and a religious spirit engender the opposite leaning in others. As the Bible indicates, the law is “the strength” of sin. In future, don’t judge artistic “content” on a moral or even theological level. Works of art are morally neutral and should be judged on their artistic merit alone not on their adherence to a sectarian moral code.

what is it with people getting all in a huff over some sexuality?!?!?! Anytime there is a little bit of skin, people go off on a rampage and protest a boycott!

Well, everyone has the right to not watch one episode based on his morals beliefs. Personally I would think that in this season if someone would boycott one episode because of moral beliefs, it should have been mortal, which was advertised with that terrible post "Good Sex, Bad Lex". But still, all views are allowed and should be respected as such. I don't agree that this episode was that much sexual: Lois bikini in Acqua was much more exposing than what she were in Exposed. Her dance was totally akward and funny. The whole episode was much less sexually appealling than Mortal and Unsafe or even Heat and Relic. It was a pity you didn't watch it, but I respect your point of view.

thehenry loves her some pre-marital sex smallville episodes unless its clana then thats just nauseating, but back to the point people who say whats to big deal with havin alittle sex on the episode should realize that its a big deal to some people peoples moral and religious belifes are their own and should not be belittled by anyone who thinks ther philosphy is so much better, on the same token people who come on here flamin about sex leading to dirty naughty imorale things and if you have pre-maritla sex youll be cast into the fires of hell ought to do the smae thing just remeber folks not everyone belives the same way you do have constructive debate no condesinding moral/imoral lecture spewing.

i respect everyones views on this topic but i was just wonderin myownsuperhero did you watch mortal because they were advertising for it that episode deffinetly seemed like it had a much greater "sex appeal" than exposed...and again i'm just wondering

It ended up basically not being sexual at all, less sexual that most of the season five episodes. I don't judge a book by the cover...errr, show by the trailer.
