Hey everyone I was wondering if the Seahorses on the Daily Planet building had any significance? When I ask I mean Superman or otherwise?

Thanks!

I thought it might have hinted at Lori Lemaris (mermaid girl, Clark dated in college in the comics)

IMO, no significance at all. I wouldn't mind them being indicative of something, but I really don't think they are.

The DP building shown in "Thirst" (and first in "Insurgence" if I recall) is a real building called the Marine Building in Vancouver. It was built during the Depression and is an extraordinary example of the Art Deco style and contains many iconic elements of the sea on its edifice including sea horses, sea shells, etc. as it sits on the edge of the ocean on Burrard Inlet. The building is quite beautiful and the carved decorations are fascinating to look at. The jewel of the crown for the building though is the front entranceway which consists of a huge, lavishly decorated archway leading to two revolving doors and beyond a richly appointed lobby (sorry for the over the top description, but it is a very interesting building). The architects based a lot of the design off the Chrysler Building in New York.

So, to answer your question no, the sea horses have no significance other than they are part of the architectual features of a real building in Vancouver where Smallville is filmed. As a side note, they did make one change to the building's appearance and that is the addition of the spinning Daily Planet globe at the top (obviously) and they did add a few glass buildings to fill in the shot that don't exist in that part of downtown. Also of note is the building they use for the Metropolis LuthorCorp headquarters in the show is just about across the street from the Marine Building.
