The accent threw me totally off balance. I mean, I know he's not really british, but it was still odd.

"You know what the biggest super-computer in the world is?" Points to his head.
LOL! And man, he had absolutely no Spikeishness in his voice whatsoever. No accent other than a normal American accent. Perfect. I forgot it was Spike the moment he opened his mouth.

I've never seen an episode of Buffy or Angel so I had no idea how good he was. I cant wait to see more of him this season.

Well, certainly not Spike...whose blood does not flow in the direction of his brain.

I never really watched Buffy, just a few episodes, so I wasn't expecting Spike. Granted that I had no prior expectations, I was thoroughly impressed by Marsters' performance. He was great.

I've not watched a whole lot of BtVS or Angel but enough to notice the difference. Definately a great start for JM as Fine/Brainiac. It's going to be fun!

Yeah that isn't really his normal speaking voice either I think, i've heard him talk in interviews and he sounds much different. I also remember an interview he gave once where he used both a french and russian accent perfectly so he seems to be pretty talented in that area. I'd like to see some voice acting from him in the future I think.
Spike is quite possibly my favorite fictional character of all time, and I agree that Marsters was awsome tonight. The interesting thing about it was that he was playing the pivotal opposite of Spike, which is very cool because he's far too talented an actor to get typecast in the role. Props to him, I'm dying to see him and Rosenbaum interact.
"so whos better spike or brainiac?"
(Spike and Brainiac come face to face)
Brainic: "Before we begin I shall inform you that I have observed your fighting manuvers and mechanics as well as analyzed your brain wave patterns. I have calculated all logical factors and have determined that you will be easy to defeat."
Spike: "Right, so basically to beat you I have to be unpredictable...I'm good at that.
(Spike procedes to kick his ass)
Brainiac: "This is illogical!"
Spike: "This is pathetic-you sod."
Victor-Spike
Now, I just have to point out one thing that annoyed me in the episode, there where lot's of problems I had with it but this one relates specifically to Fine's character. In his speach he talked about the human brain and said something to the extent of "Shame we only use ten percent of it." I have heard this said over and over from everywhere, THIS IS A MYTH! This myth started up I don't know how many years ago and was made popular by scam artists as a way to explain psychic powers, and claimed that if you were able to activate dormant parts of your brain you would be able to achieve these powers, through their training or pills, etc.
Have you ever heard a doctor talk about how someone was shot in the head but they survived cause they were hit in the part they weren't using? Moreover it is shown through studies that the brain displays activity throught it's entirity during different activities. A normal human being uses 100% of their brain in day to day activity! How they apply it is questionable, but that's a different subject all together.

Me too. I loved seeing him again, and totally, seeing him makes me think of "Buffy". I need to watch my DVDs! LOL. Given that we have a fun/campy episode coming up, I'm thinking "Tabula Rasa", which was such an awesome eppy, don't you think? They may have all had their minds wiped, and there may have been a talking shark pursuing them outside, but my gosh, the lines and that montage:
Buffy: "Ready, Randy?"
Spike: "Ready, Joan."
And then, "Goodbye to You". Possibly my favorite BtVS montage ever. That kiss at the Bronze is certainly my fave. And my gosh, remember when that eppy played? Right after "Once More, With Feeling" - what a great two weeks. That whole start for S6 was so on. I loved it. And speaking of Spike, the look he gives her in "After Life", when she's walking down the stairs - my heart. I'm like this for Lex and Lana now. LOL. I mean, the same thing - the way he looks at her, the way he talks when talking to her.
For "SV", I keep thinking about what song they will eventually play for Lex/Lana. I hold onto "One Moment More" for now, but wait 'til they get their next song. Gosh!
And oh yeah, go James!! Have you all seen his band play? I did, in Sacramento at The Crest Theatre. Ghost of the Robot - check them out!

I do think it's funny that Brainiac is a Liberal history professor - I wouldn't have guessed that in a million years. Oh noes the eval defens contractarz and they plat to kil the inocent peoples!!1
However Marsters gets some of the best one-liners ("comedy is hard"), and I loved his allusion to Lex with Alexandar the Great.
