I think Aqua would have been a much better episode if they had a better actor playing AC, Ritchson was painful to watch in some scenes...anyone else agree...BRO?

Good Lord yes. I rolled on the ground when I saw the title of your thread. I knew it was pure sarcasm. He was really...awkward. And the kisses looked mechanical. How is he in a movie? I really liked the episode. He didn't ruin it that much. But yeah, he wasn't the best qualified. I hope no one encourages a spin-off.

This whole episode was one big *groan* to me...

The orange/green? We get it...

The fish jokes? We GET it...

J.L.A.? WE GET IT!

UGH!

Vampires next week? Oy...

:rotfl: @ the title. I like you.

Alan R. was so rigidly wooden. I swear I cringed a few times during his early scenes. Eventually, I got used to the sub-subpar performance.

Heh, there is no way in hell that they're going to do an Aquaman spinoff now, not with that poor boy's lousy acting. :p

He wasnt the greatest. I thought it was a bad sign that when I found out he was a contestant on American Idol. I'm sorry but if you're on AI then you're not a professional actor imo.

He's new, so I didn't expect an Oscar-winning performance or anything, but yes, it was awkward. Very awkward.

But with muscles like that, he could have drooled, farted, and picked his nose for an hour and satisfied me. ;)

I like how they explained the green and orange though. AC went to the University of Miami. Their school colors are orange and green.

I thought his acting was fine for the role. He's playing a jock. What did you expect, The New Guy?! ;)

I agree that the acting was a bit stiff, but, aside from that, I loved this episode. I'm also very much looking forward to the vampire episode. Hey, I appreciate shows that do "Halloween" episodes. After all, it's pretty hard to find Halloween specials like the ones I grew up with on TV nowadays.

HE WAS TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!

If I have to hear someone say "bro" one more time, I'm gonna throw up.

When he went in to kiss Lois he kept opening and closing his eyes, like he wasn't sure at what point to close them so he just kept blinking.

His eyes are too squinty ala Renee Zellweger. And his teeth were too perfect.

All in all....VERY annoying.

I went back and reread the spoilers (which were all wrong except for the fact that he fell for Lois and vice versa). I'm actually glad the spoilers were wrong. It would have made NO sense from him to be from a school in CA but MIAMI was perfect. It legitimized the "school colors" :) Yes, he was on AI (I actually remember him and thought he was a cutie then). Most of the people on Reality shows really want to be actors. He has "the look" that they look for, he can get training. Considering how LAME Aquaman has been in the past (read: SUPERFRIENDS!), I'm glad they made him a little more tolerable and not SUCH a big joke. I mean, did we really expect him to be up to par with JG or even MR who have been at this A LOT LONGER??? Let's give the guest stars a break and enjoy the episode for what it was... nice good fun, with another member of the JLA. :) We've wanted more characters and they're giving them to us... at least it wasn't an intolerable FOTW... now THEY have been painful watch... particularly season 1! :) Just my two cents.

In some scens he was awful, in others he was good.

Alan Ritchson looked like the part .

But didn't act the part as good as Kid Flash / Bart Allen did in "Run"

awww, poor guy. in the interview, he talks about how he worked so hard for the role and wanted to do it right for the hardcore smallville fan base and even tho he wasnt the greatest he wasnt so bad, and I give him a lot of credit.

Chloestheone

Definitely wooden. I liked the underwater scenes though.
Poor guy only had one costume and lame lines.

His teeth reminded me of the Ross teeth whitening scene from "Friends". I wish we could have seen them under blacklight.:D

He wasn't THAT bad. You can only do so well with the lines you're given and some of his were really high on the cringe factor. If he took some more acting classes/worked on it some more, I wouldn't mind him coming back for another episode or two. I liked him with Lois. :)

It was an overall good episode, he wasn't THAT bad. The "Bro" was the miami surfer lingo in him. He definately did fit the look for Aquaman.

Well if Smallville was on a more watched episode like CBS or ABC and got the kind of viwers that CSI or LOST does. Well I think they would have found someone alot better and well......the show's quality would be alot better.

But they show is doing pretty good considering everything!

HAHAHA yah it did....

Anyhow yah he made quite an appearance and dont forget , Aquaman is a bit of a stiff guy too...I specifically loved the acting part at the Luthor mansion. He was really standing for what he believed in :)

I was worried that the ep would totally suck, but I actually really liked it. Poor Aquaman!! He had some cheesy lines, like calling Lex a "tool", and he was very surfer-dude like...but I liked that he kinda made a lightbulb come on in Clarks head when he was talking about using his abilities to save the planet. I'm sure the poor guy just needs more acting jobs to get better!! :D
He was nice to look at though.

I think about 85% of his lines were crap and he did a pretty admirable job with them...there was no chemistry between him and Erica Durance, but I wouldn't put that on him entirely...the cheesy factor in this entire episode was pretty tough to take...right through to the very last line Clark spoke in the loft to Lois...

WE always have someone trying to justify an episode when honestly his acting blew fish sticks.

I groaned a lot during this episode. I for one think Aquaman sucks period. And the guy couldn't act his way out of a paper bag.

Trust me, I feel you on this post BRO....uuuuhhhhh I think i am going to puke.

i personally enjoyed this episode but did anyone else think A.C.'s acting was a little wooden? dont get me wrong the guy looked great for the role but he just sounded kinda bland to me when he spoke and didnt really compare the rest of the smallville cast.
anyone else agree?

They've been using a lot of green actors this season. Tons were in last ep. The FotW guy tried so hard, but Lord was he bad.

I don't know if that's a bad sign or not.

EDIT: Well, not FotW: "Bad Guy" - Gabe. You know what I'm saying.

he was a horrible actor. i kept rolling my eyes when he opened his mouth. he was kind of weird looking. sure, he had the muscles, but something was just weird about him.

He had a kind of Dolf Lundgren look at times. "By the power of Grayskull, I decalre you a tool," sort of thing.

He wasn't that great, but keep in mind that this is one of his first acting roles. He hasn't had the experience everyone else had. Unless it just comes naturally, people have to grow as an actor. I mean, look at Tom in season one. ;)

...jeez all these wannabes...what so can anyone act now? ¬_¬

I never understood how Aquaman could be cool or powerful anyways... Dude only has one hand and he only can do anything underwater. As long as villains commit their nefarious deeds somewhere dry, maybe the desert?, Aquaman is helpless, unless he puts a fishbowl full of water on his head like Spongebob Squarepants when he's inside Sandy's undersea biosphere.

For some reason his facial expressions and the way he acted alot and talked at times reminded me of that wwe wrestler John Cena.

I'm biased because I've interviewed Alan and actually talked to him, but I thought he did a great job, especially considering it was his first go. Even when he didn't hit the ball out of the park you could still tell he was putting in a lot of effort, can't fault a guy for that, and he'll only get better.

I think it's not fair he gets to sing AND be a model AND get to be on "Smallville." It's not fair. Therefore, he needs to come give ME CPR and call ME "gorgeous." :)

He delivered what the script called for very well. There's a difference between when the writers give a character too big an ego, and when the actor isn't talented in theater.

I think Aquaman pulled off the surfer dude role well. If that is what the writers were going for, he definitely achieved it with flying colors, "bro"!

See, that was what I was talking about. I just think most people are turned off by that surfer attitude.

you know your a bad actor when you can't even call somebody a tool and be convincing.

Ultron
10-27-2005, 01:17 AM
I thought he was just fine for the role he was doing. And really, he was given a ton of one-liners. But as others have pointed out, he's basically a surfer-dude and I've met _plenty_ of guys like that and he just seemed like he was playing that part. Maybe that wasn't as much acting as it was just being normal.

I could see if he was playing a different type of role, and just sounded like a surfer, that would be a fair criticism. But there's only so much you can do to play that role. And it's not like they gave him any deep lines. This episode probably had more one-liners than any we've seen so far, and he had the brunt of them. :D
