"This time will be different.."

"No more secrets, no more lies.."

Does he even thinks before he opens his big fat mouth?

guess not , but the guy's afraid that lana won't ever accept him as an alien due to the fact that his arrival to earth caused her parent's death. so please go easy on him

He didn't have to tell Chloe she's a smart girl she did figure it out. ok, I hope you are talking about Clana "doing it" cause if not, I'm cluless.

When he told Lana that, he was under the assumption that his powers were forever gone.

Now he's a hypocrit, b/c he's going to have to explain away all these "events" associated with his father and his abilities.

I wish he'd just tell Lana, but I understand why he won't...

Im talking about him telling Lana something in "Arrival" then having sex with her in "Mortal" and then regreting everything he did and going back to "Oh poor me, Im scared of telling her" yet again in "Hidden"

Yeah, it's the same dry repeition that he's been doing forever now. She's been involved long enough and she should know no matter the issue. I think Jor-El's threat is up for grabs for anyone. Lana would be better off knowing for that sheer matter alone.

But it's seriously time he puts this back-and-forth to rest.

No Clark has _always_ had to closely-guard his secret. It's not hypocritical to protect himself, the ones he loves, and ultimately the fate of the entire world by keeping some secrets, even lying for the sake of the greater good.

It's not like he wants to lie. But he has no choice.

Also, him covering up his past secrets has been consistent in Arrival, Mortal, and Hidden. There's no flip-flopping on that.

See now why people were complaining about the sex and the lies in the other episodes? We already knew that would end like this... :(

It's obvious that it would. I'm a die hard Clana fan, but I'm also tired of Clark treating Lana like this. It isn't right.

I just watched it again, and you can see it pains him to keep this secret from Lana. But he's trying to protect her.

Lana's been a witch and has seen a spaceship and aliens; I don't think she could be surprised by much. Her character is STILL undefined after how many seasons?

Clark wants to have his cake and eat it too. He wants Lana, but doesn't want to tell her his secret. He thinks he can somehow make it all work out. Clark may not have a choice about having to lie, but he does have a choice on whether or not he makes a big promise to somebody, and if he is going to keep his promise. Alas, this is the usual Clark pattern we have seen in past seasons. It is a central conflict of the show, and we will probably see until the end of the show. This is the WB, folks, give me another order of teen angst!

I love that Chloe points out to Clark that he can't stay with Lana without telling her. He will need to come to some decision - give her up or tell her the secret. I think that she could totally take it, besides she is totally in love with him. It would make all the past mistakes and secrets make sense to her finally. But that is probably not going to happen. Her doubts in his secretivity and the ones planted by Lex will pull them apart.

By the way, I don't think Clark is a hypocrite. I think he hoped with all his heart that he was telling her the truth. He wants to be with her so much and he is just a kid. Give him a break.

If he had another name instead of Clark Kent (future Superman), I would. But I wont. :\

Clark has always been a hipocrite, it's one of the biggest complaints about him. He demands people tell him the truth, yet he lies everyday. He sticks his nose in other people's concerns yet gets angry when someone looks into him.

When they first introduced Lois they said that she would call him on his crap but she hasn't. Now that Chloe knows, she's been doing it. So I'm rooting for her to knock some sense into him. She's already called him on his whining.

why is everyone mad at Clark. give em a break. he has the whole world on his shoulders. he knows because he realizes that he cannot escape his destiny. he knows someone is going to die because of his actions. Lana is the only good thing he has going for him. He doesn't wanna risk losing that. He just got him some too. He wants to do it again, but he can't because he's not human anymore, and that just ain't right. If he does do it, he might risk bustin' one and go into super speed mode and mess Lana up.

He should either break up with Lana, or decide to stay together with her, and either tell her his secret or keep it from her as long as he can!
If he decides to stay with her, then he should keep his secret just that, a secret!
Thatīs one part of him, she will never be able to handle! Not as well as he wants her to!

Well, I disagree. I believe Lana will handle it just fine. Clark has only two choices: break up with her and keep the secret or stay with her and tell her. He made a promise, to someone he loves, which was no more secrets and no more lies. If he breaks his word to her than that would be an incredibly un-Superman like thing to do. He was never bound by his word before, now he is, and that's a key difference. And the saddest part is he's doing this not to protect her but because of his own cowardice.

I'm so sick of this! I really don't see why he just can't trust Lana and have the faith in her to tell her the truth and see what happens. Like everyone else has said, he is being a hypocrite and so the whole relationship is back to square one.I thought the whole point of developing the Lana character was to change their relationship and make her a person he can tell his secret to. I just wish he would tell her so we can move on to other parts of the storyline because this is just getting played out.

One more thing I forgot about, how is going to explain to Lana why he looked like he just came from war at the end of the episode unless he tells the truth?

I think I would like to see Clark tell Lana, her become distraught, feel distant.. Break up with him, then become just cold hearted around him. It would account for the future when they become just friends, she'll realize what Clark did took balls, and she'll become friends with him. In return, Clark will feel a relationship will never work because when he did tell Lana, she turned her back on him.

Why is it so hard to believe that Clark is trying to PROTECT Lana by not telling her his secret? This is NOT that complicated. If it was up to him, neither Pete nor Chloe would know--he's never told anyone. Why? Because it is a very dangerous thing to know. While it is nice that Clark has had someone to be completely honest with (Pete, now Chloe), if he could take back that either of them knew, I think he would in a heartbeat. He's trying to keep his loved ones safe. Its not that he doesn't think Lana can handle it or would reject him (although that fear is there, as seen in "Scare"), he just doesn't want her burdened with everything else that comes with it--especially with Lex's constant presence in her life. He would be able to tell if she knew anything.

Clark is NOT a hypocrite, but he does have to be selfish sometimes. How the hell else do you expect him to keep himself safe?

I think he's more scared about what her reaction will be and that he could potentially lose her.

He told Chloe that he can't expect everyone to have the same reaction she did.

I think he is being a coward. He finally has what he has always wanted. Which is a relationship with Lana and, in his mind, he is scared that telling her his secret will make him lose her.

I, for one, am tired of the 'going around in circles' theme where telling Lana his secret is concerned. Just get it over with!

Sheesh.

Well for one he told Chloe that he was afraid about how Lana would react, that he was afraid to risk it. Not to mention if he wasn't going to tell Lana he would have to either break up with her or tell her that he can't keep his promise. It looks like he's planning to do neither so that makes him a coward, a liar, and a hipocrite. And it has nothing to do with protecting Lana or even himself.

Yeah man, wtf! He's not trying to protect her anymore! Protect her from what?! Chloe knows and she's FINE.

This is more about him being scared of rejection, and that makes HIM a coward. He's making this decision cuz he wants to protect his own ass.

And that line "I can't expect her to react the way you did" Clark darling if Chloe is so friggin great, what are you still doing with Lana?!

Clark is not just a kid, he is 18 and going to college. Obviously there's some sort of maturity there to decide to that. Also, he has had dealt with so much more experiences than any other 18 year old. How could he be anything but mature with all that he knows?

The writers are projecting Clark as a selfish twat. If he thought Lana really loved him then why is he so scared to tell her the truth? Only reason he liked being mortal was because he could have sex with her without having to share his secret. Now he cant, awww to bad, no sex for him then.

I dunno, i think the whole not telling Lana is a good thing. I mean, the real superman is fairly protective of his secret. it makes sense that he guards it so securely. if i were him id take the risk and tell her - but hey - im not superman
