Why was Lex wearing a coat?

Why was there a roaring fire in Lana's fireplace?

I ask these questions because Mortal is taking place in the middle of Summer.

Lex wears the coat for style or to make a statement imo.

The fire in the Talon was the setting for the big night for Clark and Lana. Always in heated scenes before anyone has sex on T.V. either a fire is roaring in the background or in this case Lana has 5 billion candles lit for the mood.

I guess it meant to hammer home the point that Lana's a virgin.
Trust me the fireplace is a good effect, but simply not a good idea in the summer not without gatorade preasent.

It's pointless to mention the presence of warmth-providing practices in Summertime in an episode being praised by the ape-men as being a shining example of ideal 'continuity'?

1. They make all sorts of types of coats. A long fall/winter coat is not the same as a stylish (seasonal) jacket. I mean, they do make cotton jackets in black. There have been plenty of episodes in which Lex wore something other than a coat. Aside from which, Lex is a human being, not just an image. Even a human being known for coat-wearing is going to have to admit that it looks retarded and feels uncomfortable to wear a large black coat underneath a prairie sun in Summertime.

2. So, you're telling me that when you're about to have sex (:|) around the month of July, you do the following things in order: Build a gigantic fire in the fireplace, turn off all the lights, inflate the woman?

No prairie summer can ever warm the coldness that has taken over poor Lex's heart and the darkness that will one day cloak his soul -hence the long black coat. Hey, it looked great on Angel ( albeit he was undead and didn't worry about the weather).
Either that or Canada is really chilly, and they have given up on trying to make us think we're in Kansas.
As for Lana and the fireplace, well, everyone knows that looks romantic and firelight looks nice on film.

Actually Canada has been hotter this summer than any past year, it's been hotter here than in Mexico!

I loved the fireplace and the candlelight, it looked so romantic and special and it suit the scene perfectly!
