View Full Version : Arrival not great and Mortal too slow

Seems like this season has lost a lot of momentum since last season's finale. Arrival was anticlimatic and Mortal seemed more like a filler episode. Granted, both had details that we were waiting for... but I think those details could be centerpieces to the plot, rather than bylines.

What am I talking about? We finally get to see the Fortress of Solitude in Arrival, but there's no reference to it in Mortal... although it's only been a few days as far as I can tell.

Mortal seemed to me more like a filler episode setting the stage for a big new story arc... although there's the awesome and monumental fight between Clark and Lex, I think we get distracted by the implied sex scene between Clark and Lana. Big question... where's Brainiac and Jor-El now?

By the way, I still hope it's Zod at the end of Arrival and not Brainiac.

I was expecting a big intro into season 5... I haven't seen it yet, so I'm waiting. Next episode, Clark gets shot... then there's Aquaman... Seems like the season begins with smaller stories... We probably won't see anything really exciting until after Thanksgiving or even after Lexmas

I think a lot has happened in the past two episodes, just, obviously, not what you've wanted to see. Everything *I've* wanted to see has at least started to happen. Chloe and Clark reveal, Lex and Clark growing apart, Clark and Lana actually get to have a relationship, etc. etc. It *is* what they've been promising, you just seem to be expecting something else.

I think it will take at least a few episodes to build up to Brainiac. If he's going to be the "great evil" of this season, they can't just get rid of him in the first few episodes. I think we'll see him again in small side-scenes that will eventually build up to the full-out battle.

So, yeah, they can't please everyone, sorry you've been disappointed, but I think they've been catering to the fans quite a bit, so I guess you just don't agree with most of the fans? Either way, hope you start enjoying things a bit more. I know I'll be much happier when Clark gets the powers back, this show just isn't Smallville without our speedy.

Correction... According to Lex, this episode takes place some weeks after the previous episode. He tells Chloe this in their discussion at the caves.

I think that this episode of Smallville was outstanding, we had great continuity, strong plot and impresive confrontation, I was with my mouth open when Clark punched Lex, I think the pacing of the season is great.

Thanks for the correction.

For teh record, I think a lot has happened... so I agree...

But to me, they've happened without a lot of context... I think the writers are taking for granted the fans and are not paying enough attention to plot development.

Then again, I've always been a fan of story arcs, rather than self contained episodes.

But don't get me wrong, I've antipicated watching all week... and if you noticed my thread in the general forum, I went to work dressed as Reeves' Clark Kent... Yes, I'm a dork... but I'm a superdork at best
