Great season premiere!! I loved it. The Clana, Chlark, and Clex dynamics are where they should be. Though I wished they did it sooner. Didn't that last scene where the spaceship is held at LuthorCorp and the "oil" that leaked from it becoming, who I assume is Braniac, remind you of the X-Files??

I thought the same thing exactly. There was a space craft in one episode with a character the Black Oil which was very similar. It was great anyhow!

I would LOVE if Alicia was brought back, but sadly she won't be.
Still I loving the tension they are making between Lex and Clark it really shows these two were never ment to be friends but also it shows these two were ment to be each other's enemy.

There may be something to the comparison to the X-Files. The visual effects supervisor of Smallville is currently Mat Beck, who was also the VES of The X-Files for the first three seasons. Maybe a silent nod to his old series?

In some ways, Smallville has some elements and even some inspiration from the X-Files. The way Clark and Chloe investigate strange happenings remind me of the interactions of Mulder and Scully. I didn't know about Mat Beck until now. Also, Mark Snow who scores the music in Smallville, scored the X-Files.

IMHO, I believe that the X-Files phenomena probably influenced the start of the many sci-fi shows we see today.
