There were some hints as to where exactly the Fortress of Solitude is located. Firstly, it must be in the exact same time zone as Smallville. I came to this conclusion because of the statement Jor-El made about being back before sunset. Clark's powers seemed to be gone immediately when the sunset in Kansas so therefore the sun must have set where the FoS is at too. Also, it seems that the FoS is back in the Arctic rathern than Antartica because Lex states that Chloe is in the Yukon. Now unless Clark traveled across the world to take Chloe to a hospital it's there. From what I can conclude, It seems that the writers decided to go with Pre-Crisis location.

Traditionally (i.e. Superman comics) the Fortress of Solitude has always been located in the Artic.

Traditionally, yes. But there's been other locations such as Antartica and even the Andes.

it's gotta be straight up north of Kansas, somewhere in North America anyways . . .
that, or Clark ran across the ocean w/ Chloe in hand

From what I conclude it's somewhere in the highlighted area.

I hear the 'you must return before the yellow sun sets' line and I immediately think ---
'Oh, Fortress of Solitude is above the artic circle - hmm - six months of sun, so Clark as about three months before he has to return.'
Imagine my surprise when Clark watches the sun go down and I go - d'oh and smack my forehead - Jor El is on Smallville Time!
LOL

I thought that too. He must have been thinking of Smallville time. But then again, he didn't know that Clark was going back to smallville.. and he didn't.. he went to the Yukon. he went back to smallville later when he saw the news footage of his parents house all blowed up. So maybe it was just the setting of the sun in general, regardless of location, that robbed him of his powers.

 I also thought of the difference of the setting sun.
Anyway, in interviews it is stated to be in Alaska. Not too remote though.

If Jor-El meant sunset at the FOS, that rules out most of the arctic, doesn't it? That is the land of the eternal day or eternal night. It was light when Clark got there, so he would have had months to return before it got dark.
So either it wasn't the arctic, or-El meant sunset wherever Clark was.
Not sure on this next point, but would think all the time zones meet at the north pole. For the same reason that if you head north, from anywhere on the globe, you eventually end up at the north pole. Can anyone clear this up for me?

Something like walking around the Earth in 5 minutes? Makes sense. Then again, I don't know.

Well the thing is that there is very little land in the Arctic. The majority is water and a few small islands. The land I selected in my picture is what I believe to be the very top portion of Canada and Greenland. I'm not sure about the sunlight issue there either. But I imagine it has a better chance of having regular intervals of sunlight.

Come on people, you all seem like big Smallville fans so you should know by now it is the "smallville universe" and you cant rationaly explain everything that goes down as we have seen in the past seasons things happen that are rather silly.

I don't know. I have seen those big mountains in the background in several previous episodes. So I think the FOS is actually in Kansas. Which would also explain how Lex got to the hospital so fast. Guess I will have to google 'Yukon Kansas' and see where in the state they are.

It really depends on where exactly the FOS is. Since it's the same day of (or the day after) Smallville High graduation, that means it's probably May. That puts the sun about 2/3 of the way from the equator to the tropic of cancer. So if the FOS is within about 15 degrees (latitude from the north pole then the sun will not be setting there for a few months. If it's further away from the north pole, then the sun will set. But the days are longer the further north you go. I suppose, if you go east a couple of timezones from Kansas, and the sun is still setting at the FOS, then the sunset at Smallville and the FOS could be at the same time.

The FOS is always located in the Artic which is located near the North Pole.
Chloe even makes a mention of how she they ended up near the North Pole.

Again, it's not always in the Arctic.

The Fortress of Solitude, located in the Arctic in the pre-Crisis version of the mythos and (until recently when it was moved to the Amazon Basin) in Antarctica in the post-Crisis version, serves as Superman's secret base of operations. The Fortress acts as Superman's personal getaway, although it has communications equipment for urgent messages. While various 1940s comics made mention of Superman having a "mountain retreat," the Fortress in its familiar sense was first introduced in the comics in 1958.
In pre-Crisis continuity, the Fortress included laboratories, a private zoo of alien animals, a room for communication with the Phantom Zone with a projector to place or remove people from it, a Krypton memorial, a trophy room, and a gym with custom exercise equipment. It also had tribute rooms to personal friends like Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, Batman, and Clark Kent (to throw off suspicion about his secret identity by visitors unfamiliar with it), where Superman prepared special gifts for each in the event of his death. Most importantly, the Fortress was where Superman stored the bottle city of Kandor, which, in the pre-Crisis, was a Kryptonian city shrunken and stolen by Brainiac prior to the planet's destruction. For years, Superman worked to reverse the city's condition, while also enjoying the opportunity to visit a native community where he was an honored guest.
In post-Crisis continuity, the Fortress was originally created by the Kryptonian artifact, the Eradicator, when Superman tried to dispose of it in Antarctica. The device created the Fortress which contains much of Krypton's technology, including artificially intelligent robots. Superman and fellow superhero Steel encased the Fortress in a tesseract, permitting the Man of Steel to carry the Fortress wherever he travels. Superman also stores in the Fortress various equipment, weapons, and vehicles of Kryptonian design, including a large fighting mecha called a battlesuit and a means of accessing the Phantom Zone.
