Open up this forum, and then go offline and leave the window open. Then, when you get back, you're in already.

Nope, every action made on the forum connects to the database or affects it. If the db is busy/down, there is no way you can do anything. It's not about getting in per se, but just waiting for people to calm down and such, so that the db can handle people coming in and posting and viewing...

The server also plays a huge role in this, at times like this, you would want a more powerful server, but stuff like this only happens after key episodes, so the server now is fine I would imagine.
