Just like the title says, we can discuss anime and manga here. Movies, series, OAVs, shojo, shounen, or whatever else tickles your fancy. However, since we are on a PG-13 board, lets keep the hentai talk down.

Is hentai the bad anime?
And... I loved some of the visuals in Outlaw star and Akira.
I used to watch Yu-Gi oh and Pokemon before I thought they were too "kiddy" and stopped watching.

Hentai's anime porn. I don't think the mods would appreciate us talking about it.
Oh, those have such beautiful animation.
Heh, I admit, I still watch Pocket Monster on occasion.
Have you heard of [adult swim]?

Yeah, though Pocket Monsters is as repetitive as all hell. :<
*gasp* You haven't? Well..you should watch it. XD They show more adult animes. Not that kind of adult though. :p Like PG-TV14. Fullmetal Alchemist, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Samurai Champloo, Inuyasha, s.CRY.ed, Detective Conan.

They're worse with the games. Ten games just to catch them all, and still be missing some? WTF?
Oh, that sucks. You guys don't get Cartoon Network?

I got 121/150 in pokemon blue on the gb. I couldn't get anymore tried for hours on end.
Yeah we do but they don't show manga/anime. We also have a channel called "Toonami" that os also a cartton network channel but they stopped showing manga/anime too, that channel is where I watched every epi of outlaw star @ 4am everynight.
Yeah thats it. I might look into that too then.
Another problem is my rental store doesn't really have any anime/manga it has a couple just not alot so I have to buy them really.

Manga's a book. Cartoon Network IS Toonami. They merged. It's a lineup on Saturdays. [adult swim] is a lineup too. It starts at 8p.m. PST here.
Alright then.
Rental stores never have enough. D: The one in my town doesn't even have My Heighbor Totoro. It's a shame when you have to buy whole series. Especially Detective Conan. That one's going to cost me $2,000+

Yes! All of the Dragon Balls are animes. They're one of those ground-breaking animes.
Yeah, I saw it. You should have SEEN the animation and heard the music. They were both drop-dead gorgeous. It was a superb movie, although the ending was a bit rushed. :/

Yelow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, Colosseum, Snap, Puzzle League, and Hey you Pikachu. :P
Yeah.
I was lucky to see it myself. X_x; I think Disney is trying to hide the fact that all of the Miyazaki films are better than any movie that they've come out with since the Lion King. And the ironic part is, the Lion King was based off of an old anime. XP

It's hailed as one of the best. The absolute best anime movie is all opinion. Some say Akira, some say Ghost in the Shell, some say Spirited away, ect..
My personal favorite was Howl's Moving Castle, followed by Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door.

Yeah, I'd do Spirited Away first, then Princess Mononoke, Ghost in the Shell next, then Castle in the Sky. (Castle in the Sky's villain is voiced by Mark Hamill!)

I only do them for the really badly dubbed animes by 4Kids. Some dubs are better than the original Japanese versions, like Cowboy Bebop.

Just beware of bad fansubs. Some of them are done by people who really don't know Japanese.
Eh, it depends on the VA. Steven Blum is an amazing Voice Actor. He's just so good at what he does, and it shows in the large amount of animes he's in. And he has a sexy voice. <3 Lisa Oritz on the other hand, makes me feel like I've just shoved shards of glass in my ears.

The Suikoden 3 manga is quite nice in that it opens with a few colour pages before going totally black and white. A good touch IMO.
I've just reached the half-way point in the epic Lone Wolf and Cub manga series. When I read vol 1 I thought it was okay, but I never thought I'd carry on with the series as long as I have, and I'll certainly be sticking with it to the end. It just keeps getting better and better.
I've returned to watching DBZ after a couple of years break. Unfortunetly I only have the severely awful dub. "I can see their parachutes - they're okay". "Too bad it's Sunday - those buildings would've been filled up tomorrow!". "They blew up the cargo robot!".
I've never read the DBZ manga, but I think it ends after the Freiza saga, so all the rest was just for the anime.

I know several pages have passed since this was asked the other day, but since no-one else answered it: Gotenks doesn't appear until the Buu saga. Not sure which part of the Buu saga though.
I saw Akira when I was quite young. Didn't enjoy it very much, but I don't think I understood half of what was going on. I really should watch it again.
I've seen Gundam Wing a few years ago, but it took a long time to get into it. The build-up to the end of the series was well worth it though. (But the movie set afterwards wasn't up to much.)

Anime is cool
As I've stated elsewhere... :)
Well, I still will not participate in the degradation of a beloved series.
America always ****s up these sorts of things.
A few years ago there was tremendous talk about 'One Piece.' I had my own devices (Buffyverse) and didn't look into it. Forward to now where I finally see it, and it is remarkable how terrible the dubbed/edited version is.
I think the reason why they edit anime so poorly is to profit from the "unedited" DVD sets. Greedy American bastards.
While cable television has become the home for more mature shows like Nip/Tuck and Rescue Me. The Cartoon Network is dellusional by thinking they have to preserve the youth and not let them advance through viewing more mature content and subjects, and as a result, ruin a lot of good shows.
Shame on these corporate monkeys and shame on Cartoon Network.
By editing (both dialogue and visuals) and substituting certain elements and phrases, it makes episodes seem pointless and without rhythm.
One of the more ridiculous edits I've seen thus far, out of all the anime they show, would be the edit of "HELL" to "HFIL" in Dragon Ball Z and their explanation of "HFIL" only made it so much more worse.
Tangent: Anime Network? (http://www.theanimenetwork.com) Neat. :)
Furthermore, I know it won't do a damn thing, but when the ruined "Americanized" Naruto debuts on Cartoon Network, I am going to stop watching the channel. Much like I did when WB's Jordan Levin cancelled 'Angel.' Heck, I didn't tune into the WB to watch the entire last season of 'Smallville' with the exception of the finale. The torrent file comes out within hours of the episode, and I can do the same thing for 'Justice League Unlimited' and 'Teen Titans.'
I know it's not flattering on a gal, but I hold grudges.
http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/love/love0032.gif
===
Update...
...I appropriated a copy of the dub, and it leaves a lot to be desired. Naruto's voice is terrible, and the pronunciations are borderline pretentious.
They (TPTB) also decided to rid the dub of the fabulous intro and outro system seen in the original.
What a shame.
Sierra-san
09-23-2005, 05:16 PM
First off Cartoon Network DOES NOT DUB THE ANIME. Different companies do this.
Second, One Piece is dubbed by the worst dubbing company, 4Kids. One Piece is generally regarded as the worst dub EVER. Using it as an example for all dubs is laughable. Now, I agree that it is dubbed HORRENDOUSLY and that the entire company of 4Kids should burn in the firey depths of hell. But most dubs are pretty good. Kiddy animes tend to get the worst of it.
Do you mean the original dub of DBZ of the new? The original one was a horrid, horrid dub, and DBZ is being re-dubbed by FUNimation.
Pick up the Cowboy Bebop dub. I've seen true subtitle fans love the dub more than the original.

I am so addicted to anime and manga. I think I will just list the ones I like.
Sailor Moon- I think this is the very first one I saw
Samurai Champloo (this show just friggin' rox)
Fruits Basket- I have the anime and manga, but the manga is so much better. The anime ended weird though and they left out too much.
Saber J Marionette
Dramacon- manga
Absolute Boyfriend-manga
AzuManga Diaoh- Those girls are too funny
Ai Yori Aoishi
Yotsuba- manga
Love Hina
King of Bandit Jing
CardCaptor Sakura- Not that crap that came on WB, the undubbed subtitled version
Digimon
Princess Monoke
Grave of the Fireflies
Metropolis--my all time favorite
Castle in the sky
Howl's moving Castle
There are too many more to type. I already have carpeltunel (sp?)
Fruits Basket (manga) is probably my favorite out of the list. the cute little bunny Momiji is my favorite character. Well, right after Kyo. I can't wait to see how it ends, yet I don't want it to end.

Love Hina isn't that good, it's funny. But not my kinds of anime, Ever heard of Gundam Seed and Gundam Seed Destiny???
trusupagyrl
02-14-2006, 12:22 PM
Love Hina is a Harem anime. Basically one guy lives with a whole bunch of girls and he is made to look like a total perv the entire time. I like it just because it is funny. The story line isn't kept up very well and the characters are not well developed in my opinion.
Gloria,
Fruits Basket is about an orphaned girl, Tohru, who, at the time, is living in the woods and thru a series of events she begins living with an accursed family. The curse is that there are always 13 members who turn into the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac plus the cat who is the lowest of them all. There is alot of mystery in the manga and it is very funny. Plus, it is a shojo manga so there is a love triangle. I suggest you try it again. It is really good. If you can try and watch the anime. I saw it first and I think it was less confusing than the manga is. Although, the manga is better overall.

Why don't u like it?
TMLS' BROTHER
02-17-2006, 12:19 PM
I'm sure.
I don't like it becasue it just bores me and the people who made it obviously like drawing *ahem* female parts, they way they have shown them in some of the episode.
Xcalibur
02-18-2006, 08:17 AM
So in other words what you are saying is that if it was more exciting and if the people who made it would also like todraw the male parts you would probably appreciate it more then since, you thought they didn't pay attention to everyone's needs?
TMLS' BROTHER
02-18-2006, 08:26 AM
:rotfl: No. I'm saying if it was more exciting and if the peple drawing it wouldn't make the girls dress like whores then I would like it more.
