This weekend at Oxford College in England is the Oxonmoot-a three day celebration of Tolkien and his books.Theres even a masqarade party. They also visit his gravesite.3 different polls taken a few years back ranked The Lord of the Rings as the greatest books of the 20th century.Very rarely does anyone agree on what the greatest book is in any genre-but hardly anyone can argue with LOTR as far as best fantasy series.Or if u didnt agree-youd probably say u really coundnt argue it-much lol.
He was a professor of Literature at Oxford-and 1 day, while grading papers-he wrote down on a blank page-'In a Hole-there lived a Hobbit'and that became the 1st line of The Hobbit. He loved to smoke-and drink beer-dark beer particularily-traits which he passed on to the Hobbits lol.U know originally LOTR was supposed to be released as 1 big book-but the publishers, and Tolkien-wary of how successfull it would be-figured 3 books would have a better chance.

He's more than a 'Yum'. :D :D :D

Eh, I know some people who don't like the description. :/

(Spirited Away is another great movie. The music is superb, and the dub is well done too. Any Miyazaki film is worth getting IMO.)

I love him too. <3 He's the second-tied member of the Fellowship in the movie, behind Legolas and tied with Boromir.

(Good question. :\ Wait for a few minutes and I'll make one. :D)

(I can help you with that. There are a bunch of animes, and I know some of the best ones.)

Pwn?Is that a term for 'cool'-I thought u had mentioned in the HP thread u werent a Sam fan-guess I was wrong.
That was a great speech in TTT when he told Frodo about going on and doing good;

Sam: I know. It’s all wrong. By rights we shouldn’t even be here. But we are. It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened?

Sam: But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn’t. They kept going because they were holding on to something.

Frodo: What are we holding on to, Sam?

Sam: That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for.

Samwise really came a long way from the start to the end.

I have watched all the movies but none of the extras. I couldn't really see much difference between the extended and the un-extended versions though.

Aragorn was soooo doing things behind Arwin's back. Things being Legolas, of course. >) You know, in the Golden Hall, at night...

I noticed a difference. I loved the drinking game in the third movie. Some of the extras are interesting.

Youd be amamzed at some of the differences between book and Movie TMLS.Like Tom Bombadill-a big part of FOTR-neither man,nor elf,nor wizard-almost a combination of all 3.
I never saw the xteneded versions-do they show the Gandalf-Saruman confrontation where Gandalf breaks his staff?

TMLS' BROTHER

Yeah. I know that the spider (Can't recall its name) was in book two not three!

I don't know. Sierra do you?

Yes, they do, right at the beginning of ROTK.

Shelob. The reason they put her in movie 3 was because they felt that it would be rather anti-climatic to show both the battle at Helm's Deep and the Shelob confrontation.

lol... I understand but I didn't notice it.

Oh ic... thats my least fave part of 3 though probably because of my enormous fear of spiders and how it looked real. BTW.. why didn't Shelob talk? I know she can.

Creative liscence-Peter Jackson did an overall great job-and u cant please everyone-but I would have done a few things abit different.Look at how Frodo and Sam just ran into Merry and Pippin when they started out for Buckland.Actualy in the book-Pippen was with Frodo and Sam and then they meet Merry.

One of my favorite parts was in FOTR when the group is 1st trapped in Moria and Boromir says something like"Trapped in a deep dark place of the world-who will lead us now" and Gandalf
raises his staff and creates a light and says "I will".And the fight with the Balrog was great-"Fly u fools".The best was when he came back as Gandalf the White and Aragorn says "Gandalf-beyond all hope"

Lexgirl33
09-16-2005, 08:39 PM
That scene with gandalf and the staff was definaltly really cool, Moria looked great in the movie. Very detailed.

Yeh whether or not u agree with Peter Jackson and certain things he changed from the books-or left out-he was very good in recreating Middle Earth.

Lexgirl33
09-18-2005, 03:57 PM
Yeah plus he had to rearrage all the books so that the movie would be taking place at one time. Good job by him in figuring that out! But I definatly agree with Jackson's view on recreating Middle Earth

After the 1st film I was dissapointed. No Tom Bombadill? He was such a cool character-bouncing all over the place-singing

" Hey Ho Derry Do Old Tom Bombadil is a merry fellow;
Bright blue his jacket is, and his boots are yellow."

Not to mention that he also saved then twice!
And the council meeting-there were many good stories-and all they showed was some of Boromirs story.Or when they first meet Aragorn they left out some good parts. But after seeing TTT I appreaceated more what a tough job it was to film-and what a good job PJ did.

Yes but, the average viewing audience wouldn't want to watch them blab for half an hour. We wouldn't mind, but casual viewers would.

There was a very very funny animation circulating the net giving new text to the council of elrond...something about Boromir wanting ninjas to attack mordor.

Grew up on Tolkien. Not such a fan but still very fond. I actually chose my college at uni because he went there. Geek.

Hey I wouldnt mind going to the same college Tolkien went to!
I seem to remeber a skit I saw also where Boromir mentioned ninjas.

Very true Sierra.I read an interview with PJ where he said it was impossible to please the hardcore fans-the movies would be twice as long.But...Saruman wanted the ring for himself-he wasnt just Saurons pawn-he didnt have to change that so much.
