Hypnotic Part 1

*Honduras*

Two scientist in protective suits enter a hut. They are surrounded by dead bodies. The scientist then kneeled down next to the dead bodies and takes blood samples, then a dark figure appears behind one of them. "This is a restricted area, you could catch the disease." The man says to the figure, who turns out to be Fine. Fine then takes of the top of his protective suit off and throws him into a body. The other scientist comes up behind Fine, but is instantly killed by Fine. Fine takes the blood sample and begins to burn the hut, before superspeeding away.

*The Talon.*

Clark and Lana take a seat at a table laughing. "Wow, that was fun." Lana said, wiping off some sweat.

"Yeah, I always like making a fool of myself." Clark smiled sarcastically.

"Oh come on, we weren't that bad." Lana told him as Clark looked back asking if she was serious.

"Huh?" Lana shrugged.

"Fine, we sucked." Lana gave in. "I guess that's why we don't go to clubs." Lana admitted.

"Nope, but we could always work on it. In fact, I would love to practice grinding with you." Clark grinned as Lana giggled.

"Anytime big fella." Lana looked at him seductively and then began again. "You know, Chloe is pulling an all-nighter tonight and I have the room all to myself." Lana said, hinting at Clark, but Clark looked at her sadly.

"Sorry, I can't." Clark told her.

"Why not?" Lana wanted to know.

"I have work to do." Clark said.

"Oh....okay." Lana sighed. Clark then got up, kissed her on the forehead.

"I'll call you tomorrow." Clark told her, before leaving as Lana looked worriedly toward his direction. Once Clark was out of the Talon, he smiled brightly and superspeeded away. Lana then received a call.

"Hello?" Lana said, opening her phone up to her ear.

"Hi Lana, it's Lex, we need to talk." Lex told her.

"Okay, I'll be right over." Lana said, hanging up the phone and walking out.

*Clark's Loft*

Clark smiles brightly as he walks up the loft stairs. He goes over to a desk in the Loft, taking out a small box. He opens it and it shows a ring. "Well, today is the day I ask Lana to marry me." He said to himself. He decided that he wanted to surprised Lana with this, so that's why he didn't tell her he was coming tonight, when he actually was. Now all he had to do was wait a little while until she got back to Metropolis. Then Clark hear a knock at the Kent's door with his superhearing, so he superspeeded into the house. He slowly walked up to the door and opened it. "Can I help you?" He asked cheerfully.

"Are you Clark Kent?" The girl asked.

"Yes and you are?" Clark asked.

"I'm Simone, your new girlfriend." She told him as he looked at her suspeciously.

"Yeah right." Clark began to close the door, when she stepped in front of it. "Listen, I don't want trouble." Clark told her.

"I'm sorry, I just got this nice necklace and I thought I could impress guys. Isn't it nice." She said, holding it and Clark's eyes caught it. He now stood there in a trance. "Let me in Clark." She commanded and he did. "Kiss me." Clark kissed her and they began to make out.

"Smallville, do you have any...." Lois walked in, looking at Clark and Simone in shock.

"Hey Lois." Clark said, breaking up his make out session.

"What are you doing?" Lois asked wide eyed.

"Kissing my new girlfriend. This is Simone." Clark said, holding her by the waist.

"I'm guessing Lana didn't dye her hair blond and change her name? If that's right, how the hell could you cheat on her?" Lois asked bluntly.

"Lana's old news, Simone's my new girl and if you can't handle it, get out." Clark says as Lois looks taken aback and leaves.

*Lex's Mansion.*

Lex is leaning back in his desk chair, when Lana walks in. "What's going on Lex?" She asked, walking toward his desk.

"I need to tell you something." Lex said, getting up as Lana saw his tickets to Honduras.

"Going some where?" She said, motioning toward the tickets.

"Honduras." Lex told her as Lana looked surprisingly at him.

"Why?" Lana questioned him.

"Because there's someone there who I need to speak to. He may have some clues about the spaceship and the secrets behind it." Lex explained to her as Lana had no clue who it could be, but whoever it was, she needed to know.

"Anyone we know?" Lana asked.

"Clark knows him, his name is Milton Fine." Lex informed her as Lana did her best to hide her reaction the name.

"Excuse me?" Lana said, hoping he said the wrong name.

"Milton Fine, he was Clark's professor at Central Kansas." Lex repeated.

"What could he possibly know?" Lana said to Lex.

"Just all the answers I'm looking for. Don't worry, I'll tell you everything when I come back." Lex smiled as Lana looked at him in shock.

'I have to see Clark.' Lana thought to herself.

*Kent House*

Simone, pulls Clark off her for. "That's enough for now Clark. I was wondering can you get us some 1969 wine. I heard that was a great year." Simone says and seconds later, Clark has a bottle of it in his hand.

"Here." He hands it to her.

"How did you do that?" She questioned him.

"Let's just say, I can run pretty fast." Clark grinned.

"How about chocolates from Paris?" Simone said, then Clark superspeeded out and back with chocolate. "Wow, this is going to be interesting." Simone said with a wicked smile.

*Chloe's dorm*

Chloe is packing up her back pack when Lois walks in. "Chloe we need to talk now!" Lois told her as Chloe looked at suspeciously.

"What's wrong?" Chloe asked.

"I saw Clark in a major lip lock with a girl named Simone today, when I went to the Kent's house." Lois said as Chloe shook her head.

"You must have been seeing things, because Clark would never do that to Lana. He's been in love with Lana since forever." Chloe told her.

"Chloe, I know what I saw. They certainly weren't shaking hands." Lois said.

"I don't what to say cous, but I know Clark and what you're saying isn't possible." Chloe returned to packing her things. "I have to go to the library, call me later tonight." Chloe lightly tapped Lois's shoulder, before leaving.

*Clark's Loft*

"What else can you do?" Simone asked Clark. Clark smiled and grabbed a bat. He bent it backward.

"Strength." He said, then took the bat and bashed himself over the head with it. "Invulnerability." Clark then, heat vision a candle. "Heat vision, X-ray vision and you saw speed." Clark finished.

"My own personal superhero, how nice." She said, then paused. "Clark, make love to me." Simone commanded. Then Clark kissed her passionately, taking off her shirt, then his. They kiss to the couch, where they each took off their pants. Simone broke their kiss for a second. "Call your girlfriend and tell her to come her." Simone told him. Clark took out his cell.

"Yeah, Clark, I'm on my way." Lana said, hanging her phone as did Clark.

"She's coming." Clark said to Simone.

"Good." She smiled and they went back to kissing.

Hypnotic Part 2

*Clark's Loft*

Lana is walking up the loft stairs trying to comprehend how Fine survived, when she turned her up. "Clark I....." She saw Clark and Simone kissing. "Oh my...." Tears started building up in Lana's eyes. "Oh...God." She said, staring at them as tears now fell freely down her cheeks and she turned around, rushing down the stairs.

"Tell her it's over." Simone commanded to Clark as he superspeeded in front of Lana.

"Get out of my face." Lana said, trying to move past her, but he stopped her.

"It's over Lana, I'm in love with Simone now." Clark told her blankly as Lana looked into his eyes, then looked at his hands for red-k and his neck, but nothing.

"You're not on red-k? How could you do this to me?" Lana asked, she eyes bright red.

"Things change, feelings change." Clark told her.

“This is why you didn’t want to see me tonight, because of her?” Lana angrily said, then slapped Clark across the face and pushed him out of her way. Once she was outside, she fell to the ground in sadness, not caring that her hand was hurt.

*Lex’s mansion, a little later that night*

Simone walks in and there’s Lex on a big screen T.V. “Lex?” Simone says.

“I’m here, did everything go as planned?” Lex asked her.

“Yes, she saw him kissing me and now they’re broken up.” Simone told him as Lex smiled.

“How about part two of our arrangement? Did you notice anything different about Clark Kent?” Lex wanted to know.

“He’s a really good kisser, other than that, he‘s your usually Kansas farm boy.” Simone lied and Lex smirked.

“Okay, nice work, now I need you to come to Honduras.” Lex informed her.

“No, this was a one shot deal.” Simone told him.

“You don’t want anyone to find out how you got that little power of yours, do you? I suggest you do what I say or they will know.” Lex threatened her.

“Listen, you told me to break them up and I did. You also told me to find the truth on Clark Kent and I will.” Simone said emphatically.

“Fine, then continue your work.” Lex told her and then the T.V. went black.

*Honduras, the next day*

Lex walks into a hut and see’s Fine standing there with his back to him. “Ah Lex, it seems you have found me.” Fine said, still with his back toward him.

“Well, it wasn’t easy. It was almost like you fell off the face of the planet.” Lex said as Fine smiled.

“I have my ways.” Fine said.

“Or is it something else?" Lex wonder, as Fine’s hand began to turn into a weapon.

“What could it be?” Fine asked.

“Could you be from another planet?” Lex questioned him and Fine was about to kill him, when Lex began again. “I want to work with you.” Lex finished as Fine’s hand turned to normal and he turned to Lex.

“Work with me?” Fine was surprised a little bit.

“Yes, together we can unlock the secrets of the world. Starting with that ship.” Lex told him.

“Then the question becomes, why would I help you? And what would I want?” Fine said as Lex nodded.

“What do you want?” Lex asked.

“I want what you want Lex. I want this world to be free of the men who seek to destroy it. Men, like Clark Kent.” Fine told him.

“What does Clark have to do with this?” Lex wanted to know.

“Oh come on Lex, for someone with your intelligence you sure do have a brain blockage when it comes to Clark Kent. He is, what I am, an alien. I know you love the paintings from the wall and have researched them, so I’ll put it to you this way. He is Naman.” Fine explained as Lex looked at him in shock, shaking his head.

“That can’t be.” Lex said in disbelief.

“Why are humans so stupid? They can’t see what’s right in front of their face. Think about it Lex, how did he know about the chamber in the wall? Because it was put there for him. How about him saving the day all the time? Do you think any human can do that?” Fine laughed.

“What do you want with Clark?” Lex cautiously asked.

“To kill him.” Fine said coldly.

“Kill him? Clark isn’t evil, he wouldn’t rule the earth.” Lex said, as Fine laughed.

“Do you think anyone with that type of power could resist it? The only reason I haven’t killed you and tried myself, is because I’m a computer program designed to protect earth.” Fine then paused. “What do you care anyways? You know who you are inside, Lex? You’re an evil person, who does what has to, to get what he wants. Is that not who you are?” Fine said, getting in Lex’s face.

“Maybe.” Lex replied.

“No, there is maybe Lex. This is who you are and if you join me, you can get what you truly want.” Fine told him.

“What’s that?” Lex asked.

“Lana Lang, off course.” Fine smirked.

“How could I get Lana? She loves Clark and would probably sacrifice herself for him..” Lex ranted and Fine just smiled.

“I know, which is why she will go to you to protect him.” Fine said as Lex looked confused at him.

“Why should she do that?” Lex questioned him and Fine put his mouth next to Lex’s ear.

“She knows his secret.” Fine whispered into Lex’s ear as Lex stood with eyes looking ahead in disbelief.

*Kent Barn*

Clark is moving some things when Chloe walks in with her arms folded in disgust. “So, you know what I was doing last night?” She asked firmly as Clark kept moving things.

“No.” Clark said blankly.

“I was consoling my best friend who just had the love of her life cheat on her. She also said, that there was no red-k to make him do it. So then my question becomes, why!?!” Chloe stressed “why” emphatically.

“Because I’ve fallen in love with Simone.” Clark told her straight out.

“Bull, you’ve loved Lana your whole life and now all of a sudden you love Simone?” Chloe questioned him.

“Things change Chloe.” Clark said.

“Apparently they do.” Chloe said sarcastically.

“Now stay out of this, you’ve been a good friend. I don’t want to do anything, but if I have to….” He warned.

“Okay.” Chloe said plainly and left, but she knew this wasn’t the real Clark. So instead of leaving, she went inside the house. She heard the shower running, that must be Simone. Chloe also saw Simone’s purse on the counter and digged into it. She took out Simone’s license and put in her pocket, before Simone started coming down the stairs.

“Clark?” She said as came into Chloe’s view in a towel. “Who are you?” She asked, preparing to hypnotize Chloe with her necklace.

“I’m Clark’s friend, you must be Simone. The girl he loves.” Chloe says as Simone looked less threatened.

“Yeah, I am.” She replied.

“I just wanted to say how happy I am for you and Clark. He deserves someone like you.” Chloe said, trying to sound sincere.

“Thank you.” Simone said, releasing her necklace.

“Well, I better go. It was nice meeting you.” Chloe said, faking a smile, before she left.

Yeah, Lana is definitely smarter here than she seems to be acting on Smallville lately. And that one clue...hmm... Could it be that she heard Simone's command? Or was it the fact that Clark supersped over in front of Simone? Hmm...

Hypnotic Part 3

*Daily Planet*

Chloe and Lois are on the computer. They type on Simone's name on the computer. "Let's see who she is." Chloe says. They click on her name and find an interesting article.

"Her dad was a famous hypnotics guy?" Lois said.

“I guess so, it seems he was world renowned.” Chloe said, reading the article. “It appears he was killed recently by a break in.” Chloe explained.

“Tough luck for the guy, I wonder what they wanted.” Lois said confused.

“It may not be they, but who and I’ll give one guess what they wanted, because the person got it.” Chloe pointing to the necklace around the man’s neck.

“I saw that around Simone’s neck.” Lois told her.

“And I’m guessing that’s what she used to hypnotize Clark.” Chloe said as Lois nodded.

“We need to find Clark and fast, before she makes him do something he’ll regret.” Lois got up from her chair and started to walk away. “You coming?” Lois asked Chloe.

“Yeah, just let me get something.” Chloe replied, waiting until Lois was gone to get some a meteor rock from her desk.

*Kent House, a later that night.*

Simone and Clark walk downstairs. “I can’t wait to get out of here Clark. We’re going to love California.” Simone said as Clark smiled and carried down her things. Then Lois came through the door.

“You’re not going anywhere.” Lois told Simone, stepping in her way.

“And who are you?” Simone questioned Lois.

“A friend and I’m not letting you do this to Clark.” Simone reached for her necklace, but Lois put on sun glasses. “I don’t think so.” Lois smirked.

“Have it your way.” Simone smirked back and then turned to Clark. “Clark, knock her out.” Simone commanded, Lois laughed sarcastically.

“Yeah right.” She said, looking at Simone as Clark tapped her head from behind and knocked her out. Martha came rushing in, when she saw Lois on the ground.

“What’s going on?” She asked concerned and Simone showed her the necklace.

“Everything is fine Mrs. Kent. Clark and I are leaving, we’re going to California. You’re happy for us and you’re going to stop her from trying to stop us. Do anything you can to stop her.” Simone commanded as Martha nodded. “Let’s go Clark, we need to make a stop at the Luthor Mansion, before our little trip.” Simone said as she and Clark walked out.

*Moments later*

Lois wakes up rubbing her head. “Wow, I feel like I just got hit by a truck.” She rubbed her eyes and then looked up to see Martha holding a gun to her face. “Uhh, Mrs. Kent, what are you doing?” She asked hesitantly.

“I’m stopping you from interrupting with my son’s life, he’s happy. I don’t want to hurt you Lois, but I might have to.” Martha explained, then Chloe snuck in and hit Mrs. Kent with a broom stick, knocking her out on the floor.

“Oh my God! I hit Mrs. Kent.” Chloe said in shock as Lois couldn’t believe why Chloe was in shock.

“Yeah, she was going to kill me. Why shouldn’t you have?” Lois asked, throwing up her hands.

“Its just, I can’t believe I hit Mrs. Kent.” Chloe still had a wide-eyed look.

“Well, snap out of it. We have to find Clark and Simone.” Lois said.

“After you got knocked out, I heard they were going to Lex’s mansion. You need to stay here and watch Mrs. Kent.” Chloe told her.

“Fine…..” Lois pouted and Chloe walked out.

*Lex’s mansion*

Lex is sitting at his desk when Clark barges in. “Lex.” He says, walking straight up to Lex and throwing him in the wall. “We need to talk.” Clark says.

“Clark, you’re under Simone’s spell, you don’t want to do this.” Lex tries to reason with him, but he throws him into his desk.

“I think I do want to do this.” Clark lifted up Lex by the throat. Simone walked in behind Clark.

“He does, Lex.” Simone smiled.

“Clark…..” Lex was barely able to say.

“Goodbye Lex.” Clark replied, when he suddenly dropped Lex, knocking him out and Clark fell weakened to the floor. He turned on the floor to see Chloe holding a meteor rock, she then tucked it under Clark to keep him there.

“Sorry Clark.” She said, then she got up. Lex also started to come to. “I can’t let you do this Simone.” Chloe told her. Simone turned to Lex and showed him her necklace.

“Kill her Lex.” Simone commanded and Lex grabbed Chloe by the throat and started to choke her. “No one can stop me.” Simone smirked, then someone tapped her on the shoulder.

“Hey Simone, hypnotize this.” Lana hits Simone’s necklace when a bat, breaking it and sending her to the ground. “Tramp.” Lana said to a fallen Simone and then rushed to Clark. She took the meteor rock and hurled it away.

“Lana?” He asked, still shaken up.

“It’s me, I’m here.” Lana said, she held his head in her arms. Lex and Chloe broke apart once the necklace broke. Chloe smiled at her friends as Lex looked on jealously.

*Chloe’s dorm*

Lana is cleaning herself up as Chloe packs up some things and prepares to leave. “So, Lana how did you know?” Chloe asked curious.

“How did I know what?” Lana repeated.

“That Clark wasn’t himself?” Chloe asked again.

“Because I know him Chloe.” Lana said with hesitation.

“Yeah, but what tipped you off?” Chloe wanted to know.

“Well, when I slapped Clark in the face, he did something he would never do if I hit him and hurt my hand like I did.” Lana explained.

“Which was?” Chloe questioned her.

“Nothing. “ Lana said, then paused. “Clark was always been concerned about keeping me from being hurt. Even if he cheated for real on me, he would never just let me walk out after hitting that brick wall of a face.” Lana told her.

“True, but how did you know where to find us?” Chloe asked.

“Lois told me, when I went to see Clark.” Lana said, putting her hair in a pony tail.

“Oh, cool, thanks for the save.” Chloe said.

“Anytime.” Lana replied and they shared a hug, before Chloe left.

Hypnotic Part 4

*Daily Planet*

Chloe walked to her desk to see Clark sitting in her chair. She smiled, "How does it feel to have your free will back?" Chloe put her stuff down as Clark turned to her.

"Really good." Clark replied.

"Lana said she's heading over to the barn. Did you talk to her before about everything?" Chloe questioned him.

"No, I needed time to think. Make sure that I'm about to make the right decision." Clark had a serious look on his face.

"Clark, I don't like the look. I know that look, don't tell me you're going to do something stupid." Chloe said, concerned.

"Chloe, you didn't have to see the look in her eyes when I was kissing Simone. Sometimes I think my greatest power is to hurt Lana." Clark became a little teary eyed.

"Clark, it wasn't you fault." Chloe said for what seemed like the millionth.

"I know, but I hope I can spend the rest of my life making it up to her." Clark suddenly smiled widely as Chloe looked surprised. "I'm going to ask her to marry me." Clark said as Chloe put both her hands over her mouth.

"OH MY GOD." She shouted and hugged Clark tightly.

"Now that was the reaction I was hoping for. I hope I can get the same from Lana." Clark laughed. Chloe then released him and smacked him playfully.

"Clark Kent! You had me scared for a second there with that guilty look." Chloe told him.

"Sorry." Clark apologized.

"I'm so happy for you two. Promise you'll call me right after Lana accepts." Chloe asked.

"Don't jinx me Chloe." Clark said, getting up and walking toward the door, before turning around. "Wish me luck and I will call you." Clark winked.

"You don't need luck." Chloe whispered.

*Clark’s Loft, later in the day*

Clark stood next to his window, looking out into the stars. Something felt different to him, for the first time in his life, he felt like everything was going to be okay. That whatever happened, he and Lana would get through it together. He also believed more than ever in their love and that they were going to spend the rest of their lives together. He then heard her footsteps coming up the stairs. “After seeing what I did the last time I walked up these stairs, these stairs seem a little steeper.” Lana said as Clark gave a small smile.

“Are you okay?” Clark asked.

“Always thinking about me aren’t you? You’re the one who was hypnotized and made to do things you didn’t want to. I should be asking you if you’re okay, although my hand isn’t feeling too good.” Lana looked at her bruised hand.

“I’m fine Lana, nothing I can’t take. As for your hand, let me help make it better.” Clark said, taking her hand and kissing it a couple times. Lana smiled warmly at him.

“All better.” She replied, looking lovingly into his eyes.

“There’s something I need to ask you Lana, but first I need to tell you something.” Clark looked serious into her eyes.

“What is it?” Lana asked looking kind of worried.

“I didn’t tell you everything that happened the day of my dad’s election. I told you some of it, but I left out some pretty important things.” Clark said.

“Like what?” Lana questioned him.

“Like me asking you an important question…” Clark said trailing off.

“Which was?” Lana motioned Clark to tell her with her hands waving in the air.

“Well…….” Clark paused. “I asked you to marry me.” Clark finished as Lana looked at him in disbelief.

“Huh?” Lana said, not thinking she heard him right.

“I asked you to marry me, in the Fortress.” Clark repeated.

“What did I say?” She needed to know.

“At first, you said you had to think about it and then you accepted later in the day.” Clark explained.

“I said yes?” Lana had to make sure.

“You did.” Clark replied and Lana jumped for joy in her head.

“Then why didn’t you just ask me again?” Lana wanted to know.

“Because I think that’s the reason why you died.” Clark told her. Lana didn’t understand.

“How could that cause me to die?” Lana asked.

“Because that night you went to see Lex and I’m guessing he saw your ring. Lex knows us as well as anyone and he knew, that for you to marry me, that you would have to know my secret. So he questioned you on it, he was drunk. Then when you left the mansion and were on the highway, he came after you. You were distracted for a moment and then the bus hit you.” Clark said, the pain filling up in his eyes from that night.

“Oh Clark, I can’t believe it.” Lana put her hand over her mouth.

“I was so close to killing Lex, Lana. If my dad didn’t come there in time, I would have killed him.” Clark said as the anger boiled up inside of him.

“But you didn’t, you’re not a killer. I’m sorry I ever got involved with Lex, I guess I just wanted to believe the good in him was there.” Lana said as Clark cupped her cheeks.

“It’s okay, that’s the kind of person you are. I love you for seeing the good in people and you didn’t know what happened.” Clark told him and they embraced.

“I just wish that day never happened.” Lana told him.

“Me too, but it happened for a reason and we can learn from it.” Clark said, stroking her hair gently.

“Yep, I’m never going near Lex again.” Lana said.

“That’s reassuring, but I don’t want him to know, that you know my secret. So, don’t bust in there and cut his head off, let him down easy. “ Clark said.

“As easy as can, knowing what he did.” Lana said angrily. “So, what do you want to do?” Lana asked, hoping he would ask her a certain question.

“Well, I was thinking we could….” Clark began, but Lana cut him off and folded her arms.

“Are you going to ask me to marry you or what?.” Lana asked as Clark smiled widely. Then Clark got on his knees, taking her hand in his.

“Lana Lang, for as long as I can remember, you’ve been the only girl I’ve ever loved. If you let me, I’d like to make you the only girl I love for the rest of my life. Will you marry me?” Clark asked, looking lovingly into her eyes.

“I thought you’d never ask.” Lana said, tears welling up in her eyes. “Off course I’ll marry you, I never imagined marry anyone else.” Lana told him as they both smiled bright. Clark then stood up and they kissed passionately as the sun settled.. They then broke the kiss, looking lovingly into each other eyes, hoping for this moment to never end, when Lana turned away abruptly.

“What is it?” Clark asked concerned.

“There’s important I need you to know.” Lana said, taking his hands.

“You can tell me anything, nothing could ruin this day.” Clark smiled at her with reassurance as Lana took a deep breath.

“Oh, I wouldn’t be too sure about that.” Lana told him.

“Okay, well, why don’t you tell me and then we can decide if it does.” Clark said, some what jokingly.

“He’s back.” Lana whispered as Clark tried to grasp who the “he” was. Lana nodded her eyes widely as Clark was beginning to get it.

“Tell me it isn’t him.” Clark pleaded.

“Lex tracked him down in Honduras.” Lana said.

“This isn’t good.” Clark ran his hands through his hair.

“What are we going to do?” Lana asked.

“I don’t know, but I’m going to look for him. My guess is if he’s there, he won’t be there for long and he’s on his way here. Tell Chloe about him being back, I want the both of you to keep your cell phones on and close at all times. If you see anything that looks at all out of place, call me.” Clark instructed her.

“I will.” Lana looked saddened, glancing away slightly. Clark lightly took her chin.

“Everything is going to be okay. We’re going to be husband and wife, I’m not going to let anything happen to you or anyone else. You’ve given me so much strength, that I know I can beat him. I love you.” Clark said, looking in her the eyes with so much courage, much more than she had ever seen from him.

“I love you too and I know we can get through anything.” Lana replied and they share a small, but emotion filled kiss.

*Lana’s SUV*

Lana is deep in thought as she drives out of the Kent driveway. So much to think about, how could Lex have done what he did? How did Milton Fine survive? But out of all that horrible news, came the best moment of her life, when Clark purposed to her. For the first time in her life, she really thought everything was going to be okay. Then her cell rang, it was Lex, she reluctantly picked up. “Hello Lex.” She said, with no emotion.

“Lana, I need to see you at the mansion now, it’s really important.” Lex told her.

“Fine, I’ll be right over.” Lana sighed and shut her phone. At least now she would have a chance to finally break ties with Lex.

“Lex’s mansion*

Lex pours some scotch into a glass and drinks it. He takes another deep breath as Lana comes in. “Hello Lana.” He says, still faced to the window.

“Hi Lex.” Lana says dryly.

“There’s something we need to talk about.” Lex said, turning to her and coming toward her.

“What is that?” Lana asked. Then Lex kissed her and she pushed him off immediately, slapping him hard across the face. “What are you doing Lex!” She angrily glared at him.

“Expressing my feelings for you.” Lex replied.

“You have no right to kiss me like that.” Lana told him.

“Lana, I love you. I know you have feelings for me to.” Lex said.

“No, I don’t. I love Clark, he’s the only one I ever loved or will love.” Lana said,, staring a hole through him.

“After everything I’ve done for you? After all the times I was there for you when Clark ran off or kept secrets? How could you not have feelings for me?” Lex wanted to know.

“It’s simple, because you’re a bad man. You will sacrifice anything to get what you want. You tested Clark earlier this summer by sending men after me and the Kents. You held Victor against his will and hurt him. Let me not forget the time you tried trick me into believing you wanted to help me during the second meteor shower, when all you wanted was the stones. I know who you are Lex, the only reason I couldn’t believe it, was because I wanted to help you and be your friend. I can’t even be your friend now.” Lana ranted as Lex’s eyes went blank and the darkness started to overcome him.

“You think I’m a bad person?” He asked.

“Yes, I do.” Lana replied.

“Then you haven’t seen anything yet.” Lex said as his eyes filled with darkness.

“What is that suppose to mean?” Lana asked.

“You’re going to love me and be with me, whether you want to or not.” Lex grabbed her shoulders.

“Get off me!” She shouted and kicked Lex in the shin. She began to run out.

“If you leave, I’ll tell the world his secret.” Lana stopped and turned to him.

“What secret?” Lana played dumb.

“Don’t play stupid with me Lana, I know Clark’s secret and I know you know it too.” Lex explained.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Lana told him.

“I think you do.” Lex paused and walk up to her. “I know about his speed, his strength, all of his abilities and Lana.” He paused and again. “I know his weakness.” Lex whispered.

“You don’t know anything and you can’t prove anything.” Lana told him.

“Can’t I?” Lex went over to his vault, opened it and took our a meteor rock. “I bet, if I call Clark here and put this up to his chest, he’ll fall to the ground in pain.” Lana shook her head.

“Clark is the same as everyone else.” Lana said.

“So, you want to continue to play dumb? Alright, let’s just call Clark over here and see what happens. Then when he’s weakened, we can call some people over here and take him away. He can live the rest of his life in a cage.” Lex smirked as Lana eyes filled with hate and fear.

“No, please, don‘t.” Lana begged.

“Okay, we’re finally get some where.” Lex said.

“What do you want?” Lana asked.

“Just you.” Lex told her, Lana looked down sadly. “This is a big decision for you, so why don’t I give you some time. You can let Clark down easy and I suggest you tell no one about this. Because if you do, the world will know his secret.” Lex walked by Lana as she closed her eyes and tears fell freely down them.

Oh no... How can Lana choose? This is the sort of decision Clark had to make...

Let me guess--this is where Chloe must step in. Somehow, she must help to thwart Lex's plans and free Lana and Clark from his grip.

Oh man, this is gonna be Clark's REAL "darkest hour"...

Sorry, but there's going to be a little bit of agony. However, I do promise a happy ending and Lana's love for Clark will never leave her through her time with Lex. Which is how Chloe is going to find out what's going on. See if you can figure out what that is, that tips Chloe off. All I ask is that you stick with me.

Void Part 1

You're about to face your darkest hour, my son. But, remember: The lessons that we learn from pain are the ones that make us the strongest.

*Lana’s Dorm, a week later.*

It was 1 am in the morning and there Lana laid in here bed, wide awake. She hadn’t slept good all week and how could she? She knew, sooner or later she would have to make the decision of her life. A decision that would change everything. She knew everyone would hate her for doing this, that they wouldn’t be able to understand why. More importantly, she knew she would lose Clark forever. Yet, despite all that, this was an easy decision. She loved Clark more than anyone or anything in the world. He was her knight in shining armor, her one true love and her very best friend. She was willing to sacrifice anything for him and she would. Clark was meant for much more important things other than being a husband or a boyfriend. Clark was going to save the world and Lana knew that. He was going to save so many lives and keep the world save as long as he lived, which for all she knew could be forever. This would be the biggest thing Lana would ever do in her life, she would sacrifice herself for Clark, because in her heart she knew he would never hesitate to do the same. That’s who he was and that’s who she is. Lex could do what ever he wanted to her as long as Clark stayed safe, it didn’t really matter at all. This was her sacrifice.

Lana rubbed her eyes from the tears one last time, before kissing her necklace. The necklace that had brought her so much strength. She had kissed it every night before she went to bed ever since Clark gave it to her. She started holding it for hours every night this week, looking to draw the strength it gave her, because she needed it. She knew what she had to do and what she should do, but she also knew it wouldn’t be easy. So she would have to rely on the one thing that would always be with her, her love for Clark, even if his would soon be gone. Lana then closed her eyes and fell asleep.

*The next morning*

Chloe about to leave for class, when she see's Lana sitting on her bed. She was dressed in plain clothes with no makeup or anything. She stops at the door, puts her things down and takes a seat next to Lana. "For someone who's getting married to the love of their life, you seem pretty sad." Chloe said, looking concerned at Lana.

"What do you mean?" Lana shrugged off Chloe's comment.

"I mean, look at you, you're not wearing makeup. You're just going through the motions, like nothing means anything to you. I'm worried, I think you wait until I go to sleep, so you can cry." Chloe ranted.

"Nothing is wrong with me." Lana got up and went into the bathroom.

"If nothing is wrong, then why won't you return Clark's calls?" Chloe questioned her as she approached her.

"I can't talk to him now. I need space." Lana dried her face off and went to pack up her things.

"That doesn't make any sense Lana, you just accepted his marriage purposal and you two were so happy." Chloe was in disbelief.

"Things change." Lana packed up her things and left as Chloe put her hands up in shock.

*Honduras*

Clark wakes up from his straw bed. "Ugh, I know I can't hurt my back here or probably don't even feel it, but I hate these beds." Clark gets up and hurries to his pants. He takes out his cell phone. "Why hasn't she returned my calls?" Clark said to himself, he was really starting to get concerned. He then decided to call Chloe.

"Hey Speedy, how's Honduras?" Chloe asked.

"It's horrible, I can't take the bed or the food anymore. Plus, there's no sign of Fine anywhere." Clark told her.

"What do you think he's going to do?" Chloe had a worried expression on her face.

"Probably the same thing he wanted the last time he came here. He wants to free this Kryptonian named General Zod. I can't let him do that, God knows what will happen if he does." Clark explained.

"The question then becomes how do you stop someone who you already killed?" Chloe says.

"I don't know, but you can sure I'll find out." Clark tells her and the line pauses for a minute. "How's Lana?" Clark asked.

"She's out of it Clark. I've honestly have never seen her like this before. It's like she's there, but not, at the same time." Chloe said, sadness filled in her tone.

"What could be wrong?" Clark needed to know.

"I don't know Clark, she won't talk to me. She hasn't left the dorm room all week." Chloe confessed.

"I don't get it, she was so happy after I purposed to her. It was like the perfect moment and now she won't return my calls?" Clark said confused.

"I wish I could tell you, but I got nothing." Chloe sighed.

"Okay, I'm coming back tonight. When Fine wants something, he'll come find me. I've had enough of this chasing him around." Clark replied frustrated.

"Alright, bye." Chloe said.

"Bye." Clark replied, then shut his cell off.

*Lex's Mansion.*

Lionel is sitting in Lex's chair, looking at a picture when Lex walks in. Lionel slowly places the picture face down. "Well, if it isn't my favorite father." Lex says, putting down his briefcase.

"I thought it was about time I checked up on you son. How are things?" Lionel asked.

"They're good dad, but like always, I know that's not why you're here. So, let's skip the small talk, what do you want?" Lex questioned him.

"I just wanted to know how you're little trip to Honduras was. Find anything interesting? Or should I say anyone interesting?" Lionel said as Lex smiled at him.

"No, I didn't find anything of interest dad. What about you? How are things with you and Mrs. Kent?" Lex asked, making Lionel smirk.

"Good, she is going to make an excellent Senator." Lionel told him.

"I'm sure she would, but you do actually think you could be with her?" Lex said, with a slight laugh.

"Oh Lex, I don't play the romance game like you do. I stopped playing a long time ago." Lionel told him, Lex nodded, not believing a word.

"You know, this reminds of a conversation we had about Lana earlier this year. Do you really think Mrs. Kent could ever love you?" Lex said. Lionel laughs.

"Who says I'm looking for love?" Lionel, gets up and pats Lex on the back as he walks by him. When Lionel is far enough away from Lex's view, he examines the picture he had in his hand again. It's a picture of Clark saving Lana from an explosion. "Don't worry Kal-el, your secret is safe with me." Lionel says as he places the picture in his pocket.

The dark cloud is descending upon Smallville... Lana is devastated and distant over what she thinks she must do, Chloe is unable to help her, Clark is having no luck finding Milton Fine, Lex appears to have everyone in his grip...and Lionel knows Clark's secret.

My only criticisms: 1 am in the morning? "See's" instead of "sees"? Those are exactly the kinds of flaws I vigorously try to avoid. Do a grammar check next time...please?

I'll bet Lana will start on that Kryptonite-laced near-death drug soon, if she hasn't already... Post more soon. I do enjoy this, despite the grammar and spelling problems. :)

Void, Part 2

*Met U classroom*

Lana sat in her classroom, with chin rested on her open hand. The professor talked on and on about astronomy, but Lana could care less. It was really meaningless to her, everything now seemed meaningless. It was all over, there was going to be no second time around or 'this time will be no different'. All of it is going to be gone and never for her to see again.

Lana sighed, looking hopelessly into space. The girl next to her saw how horrible Lana was looking. "Did you lose someone important to you?" The girl asked. Lana turned to her slowly.

"Yes, I did." Lana replied.

"I thought so, you look exactly like I did when I lost my dad. I didn't feel like I could go on and that life was hopeless. Then, I met Dr. Rogue and allowed me to see them again." The girl explained. Lana had no clue what she was talking about.

"He let you see them? How?" Lana questioned her.

"He injected with a drug that allows me to see them in my sleep. It's great, I can talk to them and everything. Maybe you should check it out." She suggest. Lana instantly thought about her parents. Ever since they were gone, it has been like there was a void in her life. That is, until she met Clark. Who completed that void and made her feel whole again. Now she had to give that up, she wanted and needed to see her parents again.

"Can you bring me to him?" Lana wanted to know.

"Sure, meet in the dorms around 12 tonight." The girl told Lana.

"Okay." Lana said.

"Oh and bring money if you want to do this." She let Lana know ahead of time.

"How much?" Lana asked.

"As much as you can." The girl replied and Lana nodded thoughtfully.

*Honduras*

Clark grabbed his bags and walked out of his hut, when he saw a huge crowd of people gathered in front of him. They all seemed to be staring at something. A kid ran by and Clark grabbed him lightly. "What's going on?" He asked the child.

"There's a message in fire for this person. We think it came from the sky." The kid told him, then ran off to try and see the message. Clark walked to the crowd, lightly shoving people out of the way. Then he saw the message in fire.

"THE TIME IS COMING, KAL-EL." It reads as Clark stared it down with determination.

"I'll be ready." Clark whispered under his breath. Then he casually walked away.

*Kent House, later in the day*

Martha and Lionel walk into the house. "I never knew what an excellent speaker you are, Martha." Lionel told her.

"Well, I did minor in public speaking in college." Martha informed him.

"It shows, you speak with such power and conviction." Lionel complimented her.

"When I have something to say, I don't hold back." Martha told him.

"That you do and it's one of the things I like about you." Lionel said and Martha smiled.

"Thank you Lionel." Martha said to him, when Clark walked through the door.

"Mom, I....." Before Clark could finish, his eyes caught Lionel standing there.

"Hello Clark." Lionel greeted him.

"Hello Mr. Luthor." Clark said, glancing at Martha for a second before turning back to Lionel.

"I trust you are happy with your mother becoming a senator?" Lionel questioned him.

"I am and I know she'll do what's right." Clark told him, Lionel nodded and turned to Martha.

"Remember the dinner is tomorrow night. I'll be here at 8, to pick you up." Lionel informed Martha, she nodded and then Lionel smiled at both of them before walking out.

"How was the trip Clark?" Martha said, putting down her things on the table.

"I couldn't find him, but he did leave me a message." Clark told her.

"What did it say?" Martha looked curiously at him.

"It said, 'the time was coming.' It was written by heat vision." Clark explained.

"What do you think it means?" Martha asked worried.

"It means all of us are going to have to watch our back. I might have to talk to Jor-el." Clark said upset about that, still not forgiving Jor-el for what happened with his father.

"Jor-el? After all he did, you still want to talk to him?" Martha folded her arms angrily.

"I know what he did and I don't forgive him for it. But mom, I don't have a choice. He knows Milton Fine better than anyone and I might need help here." Clark said and Martha nodded slightly.

"I just don't trust him." Martha said, throwing her hands up.

"Trust worthy or not, I'm still his son and he won't let anything happen to me. He's always talking about my destiny and there is no destiny without me." Clark said confidently to Martha.

"I trust you honey, so whatever you think is right, you do it." Martha told him.

"Thanks mom." Clark smiled warmly as did Martha and they embraced. When they broke apart Martha began to walk upstairs when Clark spoke again. "Mom, why was Lionel here?" Clark wondered.

"Oh, he's helping me ease into this whole senator thing." Martha said.

"There isn't anything going on between you? Is there?" Clark asked worriedly.

"Clark, we're just friends and we'll only be friends." Martha smiled reassuringly.

"Okay." Clark smiled back as Martha walked back upstairs.

*Lana's dorm, that night*

Lana is sitting at her desk in the dorm, attempting to do some homework, when she hears a knock at the door. "Hey." Clark stands there smiling at her door.

"Hi." Lana greets him as they just stand there, staring at each other, not knowing what to say.

"Can I come in?" Clark asked, Lana stepped out of the way.

"Off course." Lana said, then she went to sit on her bed. Clark followed her and took a sit next to her.

"How are you doing?" Clark looked at her with a concerned look.

"Okay." Lana said, not looking at him the eye.

"Did you miss me?" He questioned her and she nodded.

"Yes." Lana said, with her eyes still not looking at his. "Did you find him?" She wanted to know.

"No, but he left a message for me. He told me, 'the time was coming.' Clark said.

"What do you think it means?" Lana asked.

"I don't know, but what I do know, is that I need to prepare." Clark said, confidently.

"You stopped him once, you'll do it again." Lana said, finally turning to him, looking him in the eyes.

"Thanks." Clark said, grateful for her reasurance in him. He leaned in for a kiss, but she turned away.

"I have to go." Lana said, getting up, when Clark lightly grabbed her on the arm.

"Lana, what's going on?" Clark asked, concerned filled in his eyes.

"Nothing, I just have to go." Lana replied and Clark got up.

"You're lying, something is wrong. I can tell by the look in your eyes. You didn't return my calls all week and you just turned away from a kiss." Clark let go for her arm and threw his hands up in frustration.

"I'm fine, I just need some time to think." Lana told him.

"Time to think? Think about what? I don't understand how we can go from being completely happy to this, in one week. I wasn't even here to screw it up and now all of a sudden I feel like you're slipping away." Clark said.

"Remember what I told you Clark. Nothing can take away my love for you, nothing." Lana sincerely told him and kiss him lightly on the lips, then walked out. After she shut the door, she let her head lay lightly on the door, she eyes closed and a single tear falls down her cheek. Clark stood alone in her room with his hands dangling along his arms.

"My Sacrifice"

Hello my friend, we meet again
It's been awhile, where should we begin?
Feels like forever
Within my heart are memories
Of perfect love that you gave to me
Oh, I remember

When you are with me, I'm free
I'm careless, I believe
Above all the others we'll fly
This brings tears to my eyes
My sacrifice

We've seen our share of ups and downs
Oh how quickly life can turn around
In an instant
It feels so good to reunite
Within yourself and within your mind
Let's find peace there

When you are with me, I'm free
I'm careless, I believe
Above all the others we'll fly
This brings tears to my eyes
My sacrifice

I just want to say hello again
I just want to say hello again

When you are with me I'm free
I'm careless, I believe
Above all the others we'll fly
This brings tears to my eyes
Cause when you are with me I am free
I'm careless, I believe
Above all the others we'll fly
This brings tears to my eyes
My sacrifice, My sacrifice

I just want to say hello again
I just want to say hello again

My sacrifice.

Void, Part 3

*Lana's Dorm, Midnight.*

Lana looks at her watch and then takes 300 dollars she had saved up, from her desk. She turned to Chloe who was sleeping and sat there for a second running her hands through her hair. She knew this wasn't like her at all, this wasn't who she was, but sometimes people do things they wouldn't normally do, because of their situation. She wanted, no needed to see her parents, if only for a couple seconds.

Lana then stood up and as quietly as she could, left the room. However, she didn't leave quietly enough as Chloe's eyes opened and saw Lana's shadow leave the room. "Well, if I'm going to find out what's gong on, then now is the time." Chloe got up quietly and made her way toward the door. She shut it lightly as she saw Lana and followed her. Lana, saw the girl, gave her a wave and approached her.

"You're on time." The girl said and waved Lana to follow her. Lana follow her as Chloe followed them. Lana and the girl went into the school, then into a lab, shutting the door behind them. Chloe saw them and decided to wait.

*Inside the Lab*

The girl leads Lana in and they're greeted by a man. "Hello Kayla and is this Lana?" Dr. Rogue asked.

"It is." She replied and the Dr. nodded.

"So, you want to see your dead parents? It must have been so hard to lose them." Dr. Rogue said, Lana nodded.

"Yeah, can we just skip the small talk. Here's the money." Lana handed the money, the doctor counted it.

"No small talk is fine, just wait here, until I get the drug." The doctor walks away and comes back with a small bottle as well as a needle. Chloe watches, shocked at what's going on.

"This might hurt." The Dr. told Lana.

"I'm ready." Lana quickly replied and the doctor stuck the needle into Lana's arm. She flinched cause of the pinch, then fell, the doctor caught her and put her on the table. Chloe is looking on, not knowing if she should rush in or call Clark. She decides to play it safe and watch for now.

*Hallucination*

Lana opens her eyes. She looks around and appears to be in Nell's old flower shop. Then she hears the door open and her parents walk in. She looks up at them in awe and almost has to hold herself back from jumping in their arms. "Mom?....Dad?" Lana's eyes are tearing up.

"Yes, dear, it's us." Her mom says and places her hand on Lana's cheek.

"We've missed you so much." Her dad says, placing his hand on Lana's other cheek.

"I needed to see two so bad. I'm just so lost right now." Lana admitted, letting some tears fall down her cheek.

"We've seen honey, we just want you to know that whatever happens, we'll always be with you." Her mother told her.

"We love you Lana." Her dad said and then Lana faded away from them.

"No! No!" Lana screamed as she faded away.

Lana walks up in a sweat. "I need to go back!" She told the doctor who was standing besides her.

"You can't, at least not that quickly and not without more money." The doctor explained.

"Why can't I go back that quickly?" Lana wanted to know.

"Because, in case you didn't notice Lana, you flat lined. Which means, when you see your parents, you're temporarily dead. I'm the one who brought you back." The doctor shows Lana the needle and the antidote bottle.

“Oh and what do you mean more money? I gave you all I had and that isn’t enough for more?” Lana questioned him in shock.

“This stuff isn’t cheap, it costs a lot of money. Besides shouldn’t it be worth it? Shouldn’t anything be worth seeing the people you love one last time?” The Doctor asked and then walked away, he stopped at the door. Chloe rushed away as the Doctor turned to Lana. “If you get the money, you know where to find me.” He said, opening the door and then leaving. Lana folded her arms and sighed.

*Lex’s mansion*

Lex is sitting at his desk, going through LuthurCorp files, when a man in a suit enters. “Mr. Luthor.” He says, getting Lex’s attention.

“Why are you here? Shouldn’t you be following someone.” Lex asked, his eyes not leaving his work.

“I was, but I think there’s something you should know about that person.” The man told him, Lex lifted his eyes off his work and on to the man.

“And what is that?” Lex was very curious to know.

“She’s drugging herself.” He said. Lex looked surprised. ‘Lana doesn’t do drugs.’ He thought to himself.

“You saw this with your own eyes?” Lex wanted to know.

“Yes sir, it’s not like any drug I’ve ever seen. From what I found out, it can temporally kill you and will if you keep taking it.” The man explained.

“Okay, the next time she goes to get the drug, call me.” Lex instructed him.

“I will.” He replied and then left.

*Chloe and Lana’s dorm*

Lana woke up the next morning, still hoping the events for the previous week were just one big nightmare. She had woke up every morning hoping they were, she had even prayed for it, but it wasn’t a nightmare, it was real. Lana then sighed, got up and went into the bathroom. Splashing water on her face, when Chloe walked in. “How was your night?” Chloe asked with her arms folded, like a mother who was about to scold her daughter.

“Huh?” Was all Lana could mummer out.

“How was your late night trip?” Chloe asked again.

“Have you been following me Chloe?” Lana looked at her with curiosity.

“Don’t try and change the subject. How could you sneak out at 12 midnight with your life savings to get drugs?” Chloe questioned her.

“What I do is my business.” Lana firmly replied.

“Come on Lana, this isn’t you. What the hell is going on?” Chloe wanted to know.

“For the last time, nothing is going on! Now I have to get ready for class.” Lana brushed past Chloe as Chloe stared ahead in sadness. She knew she had to tell Clark.

*An hour later, at Chloe’s dorm room*

Chloe is sitting at her desk, thinking of she can possibly explain this to Clark. At first, she was ready to jump on the phone and call Clark, telling him to get over here in a second, but then she thought again. She had to face facts, Lana was perfect to Clark and the other way around. There’s no way Clark would believe Lana would do that, so she had to get proof or at least find some way to make Clark believe her. Then Clark walks in with flowers. “Hey Clo.” He says with a smile.

“Hey Clark, are those for me?” She asked, putting on a fake smile, knowing they weren’t.

“Uhhhh, sorry, they’re for Lana. I must have did something wrong, so I need to make it up to her.” Clark said, looking into the bathroom for her.

“She’s at class and I’m disappointed you never bring me flowers.” Chloe folded her arms pretending to be sad.

“Well, I’m not made of money Chloe. These flowers cost me 50 bucks, besides you’re not mad at me. If you ever get mad at me, I promise to bring you flowers.” Clark said, putting the flowers next to Lana’s bed.

“So, how are things?” Chloe asked.

“Not that good, I don’t know where Fine is. Lionel is hanging around my mom a little too much for my comfort, not to mention saying weird things around me. Then there’s Lana. You can’t imagine how much I miss talking to her. Ever since I told her my secret, I can say anything to her and have her understand. She always knows what to tell me, how to say it and how to make it better. Sometimes I think her words are the only thing that keeps me together.” Clark smiled to himself.

“I’m sure everything will be okay, maybe you should talk to her. Ask her what she’s been doing.” Chloe emphasized the last part.

“Is there something I should know Chloe?” Clark questioned her.

“Why would you say that Clark?” Chloe wanted to know.

“Because you have the, ‘I know something look on your face‘. If it’s about Lana I want to know Chloe.” Clark sternly told her.

“Okay, I'll tell you, but you have to promise not to flip out.” Chloe said.

“I promise.” Clark replied.

“I saw Lana using drugs….” Chloe began before Clark interrupted.

“WHAT!” He yelled.

“You promised not to flip out.” Chloe said.

“I lied, why would Lana do drugs? She would never do that. How could you say that?” Clark asked in anger.

“I knew you would act this way, which is why I didn’t want to tell you without proof.” Chloe paused for a second, Clark put his hands on his waist, still upset. “Lana’s my best friend and if I didn’t follow her myself, I wouldn’t have believed it either, but I saw her myself. I know this is hard to believe for you, but you have to believe me, for Lana’s sake.” Chloe sincerely told him, the anger vanished from Clark’s eyes and he nodded.

“I’ll talk to her when she gets back.” Clark said.

“I’m so worried about her.” Chloe’s eyes were filled with worry as were Clark’s and then they embraced.

*A couple hours later*

Lana walks in, shutting the door and she see’s Clark there sleeping. She smiles, forgetting everything that’s going on, if only for a couple seconds. She lightly took a seat on the bed and stroked his hair. Thinking it might be the last time she ever did.

When all our tears have reached the sea
Part of you will live in me
Way down deep inside my heart
The days keep coming without fail
A new wind is gonna find your sail
That's where your journey starts

You'll find better love
Strong as it ever was
Deep as the river runs
Warm as the morning sun
Please remember me

Just like the waves down by the shore
We're gonna keep on coming back for more
'Cause we don't ever wanna stop
Out in this brave new world you seek
Oh the valleys and the peaks
And I can see you on the top

You'll find better love
Strong as it ever was
Deep as the river runs
Warm as the morning sun
Please remember me

Remember me when you're out walkin'
When the snow falls high outside your door
Late at night when you're not sleepin'
And moonlight falls across your floor
When I can't hurt you anymore

You'll find better love
Strong as it ever was
Deep as the river runs
Warm as the morning sun
Please remember me
Please remember me

Lana sighed and Clark’s eyes started to flicker open. “Hey.” He said, sitting up.

“Hey.” Lana replied, giving him a fake smile as all the worries that disappeared for a couple seconds, came back.

“I brought you some flowers.” Clark told her. Lana saw them.

“Thank you, you didn’t have to.” Lana said, turning back to him.

“I was thinking since I did something wrong, I should make up for it.” Clark said apologetically. Lana looked at him sympathetically.

“You didn’t do anything wrong.” Lana quickly replied.

“Then why haven’t we talked in a week? And now you’re doing drugs?” Clark questioned her, Lana looked taken aback.

“Drugs? What are you talking about?” Lana lied.

“Chloe saw you taking them.” Clark said.

“What I do is none of her business and it isn’t yours either.” Lana scolded him.

“None of my business? I love you Lana, you’re the most important thing to me in the world. HOW IS IT NOT MY BUSINESS, when someone I love is hurting themselves?” Clark was getting teary eyed.

“I can’t do this.” Lana said, putting her hands through her hair, something that was becoming a horrible habit.

“Can’t do what? Lana please, help me here, what the hell is going on? How can I fix this? Please, just let me in, I can tell you’re hiding something.” Clark pleaded, Lana couldn’t look him in the eyes.

“Just leave.” Was all Lana could say.

“NO.” Clark shouted and lightly grabbed her by the shoulders. “I’m going to let you slip away from me, not after everything that has happened.” Clark said, in a desperate tone.

"Clark, please, just go." Lana said, still not looking up at him. Clark let go for her and walk toward the door, then turned around.

"I love you." He said, then left dejectedly. Lana let tears fall down her cheek as she stood staring ahead in sadness. She turned to the flowers Clark got her, took one of them out and held it to her chest.

Damn it, Lana, just tell him! Grrr... Damn you, Lex Luthor. Think you've got the power? You don't understand the power of the heart!

Still a number of errors--you keep jumping between past and present tense. Just pick one and stick with it.

Hope to see more soon.

VOID PART 4

*Lana's dorm room, late that night.*

Lana quietly slips out of her bed, looking at Chloe. Then she carefully walks out of the room. She stops at the door for a second, trying to think what she was doing. She wasn't a drug addict, she never even took drugs before this, but it seemed like she was addicted and needed more. Since she had no money and wasn't going to take any from Clark or Chloe, she had to steal it the drug.

*Lab in Met U*

The door was locked to the lab, but Lana kicked it in and walked in. She immediately sought out the drug and saw it was in a glass case. Lana thought for a second, then took off her t-shirt and rapped it around her fist, then smashed the glass with her fist. Lana, then put her shirt back on and took a needle, filled it with the serum. Just before she was about to inject herself, she heard a voice. “Lana!” Lex called out.

“What the hell do you want?” She glared at him.

“To stop you from doing this to yourself.” Lex said.

“Get away from me, you’re the reason I’m here.” Lana snapped at him.

“I may be, but the Lana I know wouldn’t do this to herself. She’s smarter than that.” Lex said, trying convince her to put down the needle.

“Go to hell!” Lana said and was about to inject herself when Dr. Rogue entered.

“What are you doing here?” He questioned them.

“Never mind that, what are you doing selling illegal drugs?” Lex asked firmly.

“That’s none of your concern and this is private property.” The doctor told him.

“It is my concern, because I’m Lex Luthor and I contribute millions of dollars to Met U every year through my company Luthor Corp. If you continue to sell this drug or even think about going near this girl again, you’ll regret every stepping foot in Metropolis and you’ll be in jail.” Lex said, the doctor gulped.

“Fine, take her and go.” The doctor said and Lex turned to Lana.

“Come on Lana…” Lex said, reaching for her arm, but while he was doing that, the doctor came from behind him and injected him with the drug.

*Lana’s dorm room*

Chloe sighs in her bed, with her eyes still closed and then reluctantly sits up. She looks over to Lana’s bed and her eyes widened with she see’s Lana isn’t there. “Oh no, I have to find her.” Chloe says and puts on some clothes as well as her shoes. “I better call Clark too.” Chloe said and grabbed her phone.

“Chloe, what’s wrong?” Clark asked, almost expecting a call.

“Shouldn’t you be asleep?” Chloe wanted to know.

“I couldn’t sleep, not with everything that has happened this week. So, what’s the problem?” Clark needed to know.

“Lana left again and I’m afraid of what she might do.” Chloe told him

“Alright, I’m on my way.” Clark replied.

“I’ll meet you in the Met U front entrance.” Chloe instructed him.

“Okay, hurry up.” Clark said and hung up.

“I hope we get there in time.” Chloe said, concern filling her eyes.

*Met U Lab*

“You thought you could steal from me?” He asked Lana, approaching her.

“Please, I just needed to see them again.” Lana pleaded with him.

“Well, now you can be assured to see them again and this time forever.” The man filled up a needle and approached Lana with it.

*Met U entrance*

Clark anxiously awaits Chloe, she finally comes running in. “Where’s the lab?” He asked.

“It’s on the 2nd floor, right next to the trophy case.” Chloe informed him.

“Okay.” Clark was about to superspeed away with Chloe grabbed his arm.

“Be careful, I think I saw some green kryptonite.” Chloe told him.

“I will be.” Clark superspeeded away. He found the trophy case and saw the broken door in front of the lab. “Lana!” He called out.

“Clark!” She called back to him, so happy to see him Clark saw the doctor and superspeeded to him.

“Let her go!” He commanded and grabbed the guy on his throat, however the kryptonite started to affect Clark. He fell to the ground in pain.

“No Clark.” Lana rushed to his side. “Please, leave him out of this.” Lana begged.

“You brought him into this.” The doctor said, getting up to his feet. “Now it’s your turn.” He approached Lana with the needle, but then fell to the ground twitching.

“See what drugs does to you?” Chloe asked as she held out her stun gun. She then went down to his level on the floor and held the stun gun to his neck. “Tell us how to help our friend.” Chloe commanded him.

*Lex’s Hallucination*

Lex stood alone in his office. He looked around confused, then in came a beautiful woman. “Mom?” He looked at her in shock.

“Yes Lex, it is me.” She said, walking up to him, coming face to face with him.

“But how?” Lex questioned her.

“It doesn‘t matter how, the only thing that matter is that I‘m here.” She told him.
“I‘ve missed you so much.” Lex said.

“I‘ve missed you too, but it saddens me to see what you‘ve become.” She told him.

“I‘m sorry, but this who I am.” Lex face turned from loving to emotionless.

“It doesn‘t have to be Lex, you don‘t have to kill all those people.” Lillian said, her eyes filled with worry and pain over what her son will become.

“I‘ve been trying to avoid who I am for too long. “ Lex sternly told you.

“No, you’ve just been trying to find yourself. It doesn’t have to be this way, please my son, don’t give up.” Lillian pleaded with Lex.

“I…” Lex began to say, before he faded away from his mother.

*Clark’s Hallucination*

Clark opens his eyes, he's in the barn and see's light coming from the outside. “Dad?” Clark looked in shock as she saw his dad walk through the barn door.

“It‘s me son.” Jonathon replied and Clark rushed to him. He hugged him tightly.

“Dad, I can‘t believe it.” Clark said, at a lost for words.

“I missed you too son, but we can‘t get lost in that for now. I need to tell you something.” Jonathon said, releasing Clark, so he could look him in the eyes.

“Lionel knows your secret“ Jonathon told Clark. Clark looked back at him in shock.

“But how?” Clark wanted to know.

“He saw you safe Lana from an explosion in Lex‘s warehouse. You have to protect him from your mother.” Jonathon explained.

“I will.” Clark said confidently. Jonathon puts his hand on Clark’s shoulder.

“I want you to know how proud I am of you son. You‘re going to save so many lives and change the world. Continue to make me proud.” Jonathon said. Clark ‘s eyes watered and he faded away from Jonathon.

*End of the Hallucinations*

Clark and Lex both shoot up from their slumbers. Clark looked up to Lana. “Are you okay?” She asked.

“Yeah, I’m fine.” Clark replied, Clark and Lana embraced as Lex looked on.

*Lana’s dorm room, the next day.*

Clark and Lana are sitting on Lana’s bed in an awkward silence, until Clark begins. “I don’t know what to say.” Clark said, not looking in Lana’s direction.

“Are you upset?” She wanted to know.

“I little bit, why would you do that?” Clark looked deeply into her eyes.

“I can’t really explain it, I just needed to see them.” Lana said, trying to avoid eye contact.

“But why now all of a sudden? I mean, I know you loved your parents, but now all of a sudden you need to see them? It just doesn’t add up Lana.” Clark said.

“What do you want me to say?” Lana got up, annoyed by his pressing.

“I want you to tell me the truth. You know the truth, that thing that you’ve always asked of me. I can’t begin to say how frustrating it is to go through this. Especially now, not when I need you the most.” Clark explained. Lana stopped in her track, staring out through the window, trying desperately not to cry. He can’t need her, not now. Not when she can’t be there.

“You don’t need me Clark.” She said.

“You’re my heart and soul, Lana.” Clark told her and she almost died with those words. She couldn’t hear that, she couldn’t let him believe that, not now.

“You have to leave.” Lana told him, opening the door.

“But Lana…..” He began to say.

“No Clark, you have to leave. We’ll talk tomorrow, please, if you love me you’ll leave and we can talk tomorrow.” Lana begged him.

“Okay, we’ll talk tomorrow.” Lana nodded and Clark reluctantly left. As soon as she saw Clark speed away, she jump on her bed and cried her eyes out. She was actually surprised at how much she cried, because of all the tears she had cried this week. She didn’t think it was possible to be humanly possible to cry this much, but she did. His words ripped her apart inside, because she couldn’t fulfill them. She couldn’t be there for him now, at least not in the way he wants her to be. She had to protect him in another way, in a way he couldn’t understand and in a way that would hurt him. But, it had to be done.

*Kent House, later that night*

Clark walks in the door, trying to compose himself. It seemed as if the walls were falling in and there was nothing he could do about it. Fine was back, Lionel knew his secret and Lana was slipping away. His strength was always found in his father, but he was gone now. There would be no speech or lecture, telling him to get back up. Once again, he found himself alone and didn’t know what to do. Clark walked toward the staircase. “There’s the man I was looking for.” Martha walked down the stairs in a beautiful white dress.

“Mom, we need to talk.” Clark told her. She got a worried look on her face and started to walk faster down the stairs.

“What’s wrong sweetheart?” Martha asked as she stepped down and saw the concerned look on his face. Before Clark could answer, Lionel knocked and walked in.

“Martha, are you ready?” He asked, looking at Martha as Clark stared at Lionel blankly.

“Yes, just a second. What is it you want to tell me Clark?” She asked again, Clark looked from Lionel back to Martha.

“Nothing that can’t wait.” Clark said and gave a fake smile.

“Okay, we’re going to go. Don’t wait up.” Martha gave Clark a kiss on the cheek and walked out.

“Goodnight Clark.” Lionel said and walked out as Clark stared at the door.

*Lex’s Mansion*

Lex is staring out his window thinking about his conversation with his mother, when Fine walks in. “I see you followed me bread crumbs.” Fine said, Lex turned to him.

“What do you mean?” Lex questioned him.

“I mean the way you made her choose between his secret or him. I was starting to worry that I was wrong about you Lex.” Fine said with a grin on his face.

“I’m doing it for her protection.” Lex told him and Fine laughed.

“I don’t care why you’re doing it, the point is you are. Without her by his side, he is weak and vulnerable.” Fine explained.

“I know this already, is there another reason you came by?” Lex asked, coldly.

“I came to tell you that Lana must not know we’re working together.” Fine said.

“How does she even know about you?” Lex wanted to know.

“Because she helped him kill me or at least temporally hurt me. If she finds out about our partnership, she will go to him and everything will be off.” Fine told him.

“Okay, I understand.” Lex and said Fine turned to the door, hearing something.

“She’s coming.” Fine said and superspeeded away. Lana then walked in through the doors, eyes still red from crying.

“I assume by this visit you have made a decision?” Lex asked and she nodded.

“I will be with you, if you don’t reveal his secret, not to anyone.” Lana sternly told him.

“Okay, you can trust me.” Lex said, getting up and walking toward her.

“No, I can’t trust you, but I have no choice. I swear to you though, if you reveal his secret, there will be nothing in the world that will protect you from me.” She said, looking fiercely into his eyes.

“And I believe you, so we have a deal?” Lex asked, wanting to make sure.

“We do.” Lana whispered.

“Good, now to seal the deal.” Lex kissed Lana forcefully and she pulled away quickly. Then Lex gave her a look and she allowed him to kiss her again.

*The next day, in the loft*

Clark is sitting on his couch, talking on his cell. “I can’t believe he knows your secret.” Chloe said, in complete shock.

“I know, the question is, why didn’t he tell me yet?” Clark wondered.

“I don’t know, you’d think he be very anxious to tell you. Considering the past he has had with you.” Chloe told him.

“All I know is that this can’t be good and it isn’t something I need now.” Clark said, then he heard footsteps and saw Lana walking up the loft stairs. “I’ll talk to you later Chloe.” Clark shut his phone and got off his couch as Lana approached him.

“Hey.” Lana said, taking a deep breath and walking over to the window.

“Hey.” Clark replied, watching her.

“I need to talk to you.” She told him.

“About what?” Clark questioned her.

“About us.” Lana said, knowing she couldn’t make eye contract with him.

“Okay.” Clark said.

“Ever since you told me your secret, I’ve never been happier. It was a dream come true and I wanted it to last forever.” Lana paused as Clark was trying to figure out what she was saying. “But all good things have come to an end.” Lana told him, still staring out the window.

“What are you saying Lana?” Clark asked, confused.

“I’m saying it’s over Clark.” Lana told him. He looked over at her in shock.

“Over? No, you’re going to be my wife. It’s not over, it can’t be.” Clark said, becoming hysterical.

“I’m sorry.” Lana walked away from the window and tried to pass Clark, when he lightly took her arm.

“No, I’m not just going to let you walk out of my life.” Clark told her.

“Clark, I’m sorry, but things change.” Lana said.

“So, you’re going to tell me that all we went through meant nothing to you? That all the time we spent together was a lie? That you don’t love me?” Clark ranted.

“It did mean something.” Lana whispered.

“Lana, don’t do this. Don’t give up on us, I’m not going to, not without a fight. I love you too damn much.” Clark said, looking her deep in the eyes.

“You have to move on, it’s over.” Lana repeated, then Clark kissed her passionately and pulled back after.

“Look me in the eyes and tell me that didn’t mean anything to you. Tell me that you’re not in love with me.” Clark said, taking Lana’s chin and forcing her to look him in the eyes.

“It didn’t mean anything.” Lana paused and gathered up all her strength. “I don’t love you.” Lana said, Clark released his grip and stood there in complete shock. “Goodbye.” Lana walked away, using all the courage she possessed not to cry. Clark stood there in shock, not knowing what to do. He then dropped to his knees and put his head in his hands.

There is freedom within, there is freedom without
Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup
There's a battle ahead, many battles are lost
But you'll never see the end of the road
While you're traveling with me

Hey now, hey now
Don't dream it's over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
We know they won't win

Now I'm towing my car, there's a hole in the roof
My possessions are causing me suspicion but there's no proof
In the paper today tales of war and of waste
But you turn right over to the T.V. page

Now I'm walking again to the beat of a drum
And I'm counting the steps to the door of your heart
Only shadows ahead barely clearing the roof
Get to know the feeling of liberation and relief

Hey now, hey now
Don't dream it's over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
Don't ever let them win

Lana drove away from the farm as fast as she could, trying to hold her tears in for a couple seconds longer. Then she finally pulled over on a side road, got out of her car. “NO! NO!” She screamed and kicked her car door as hard as she could. She kicked it until she finally gave up and fell against the side of the car, tears flowing rapidly down her cheeks.

OK, SVM, now that clark had to live through what Lana lived through before, it's taime to FIX IT! ;)

It was a good idea to reverse their roles, for a change. Your writing has improved a lot since way back when, when you first gave writing a try. A little more proof reading could correct a few more errors. - mostly typos. Anyway, keep going & fix it soon!

hahaha, keep the faith. Although I'm not a fan of TC, there's going to be some. I kind of like it this way, because unlike Smallville's Clark, my Clark will now have to turn to someone unexpected for support. My Clark will grow and my Lana will sacrifice for him. It the end who knows where it will lead them? Well, I do;) In fact, I already have the ending picked out.

Thank you and i understand the errors thing. Like I said before, I'm an ideas guy, I stink at preventing errors, even when I proof read. Off course it might have to do with the times i write my stories...

FRAGILE PART 1

*Daily Planet*

Chloe sat at her desk staring at her computer, not looking for research or her next big story, but trying to figure what to do. She was always good at helping people and she liked helping people. That is part of the reason she became a journalist and wanted to work at the Daily Planet, she wanted to help people. Not that she liked to brag or anything, but had helped some people and it made her feel good. This time was different though, this time it was her friends who needed her help and she didn't know what to do or what she could do.

*Chloe's Point of View*

There's nothing worse in the world than feeling helpless. That's the way I feel right now. My best friend Clark, is hurting and has been mentally destroyed inside. I've gone to see him every day and every day I get the same reply or lack there of, I should say. He just looks up at me with those lost eyes, like he has lost his soul and his heart has been stolen from him. As Clark's best friend, I have seen him through the good times and the bad times, but I've never seen him like this. Maybe I'm overreacting about this, I mean, he just lost the love of his life and it was a shock. Why shouldn't he be upset or sad? Except this is Clark we're talking about, I've seen him bounce back before, but some how I know this time is different. There's no longer that sense of a hero inside of him, only a broken down man. What makes matters worse, is this couldn't have come at a worse time, not with Lionel and Fine on the loose. What am I going to do? I hate to confront about this, but it has to be done.

Then there was Lana. How can someone completely change in two weeks? Two weeks ago I was looking at this strong woman, who was more than ready to marry my best friend and help him become who we all know he is. She was so happy, so brave and everything you'd want to be. Now I see a completely different person, someone who I hardly recognize anymore. It is a scary thing to wake up one morning and not know who your best friend is. I wish I knew what was going on, but I have no clue and it‘s getting harder every day. How could she do that to Clark? That‘s what I want to know. How could she throw away something like that? Something special? What I do know is how much she loves Clark, even if she told him she didn‘t. She told me that she would sacrifice her life for his and not think twice about it. She told me every night how happy she was and how much she loved him. Then she turns around and does something like this? I just don‘t understand and it sucks.

*Chloe and Lana’s dorm room, later in the day.*

Lana and Lex walk into Lana’s room hand in hand. “I hope you enjoyed yourself tonight.” Lex said.

“Yeah, I guess.” Lana told him with little emotion.

“I thought we had this discussion?” Lex asked.

“So now I have to pretend I’m happy?” Lana wanted to know.

“It would make things more easy and more tolerable.” Lex said.

“For whom?” Lana smirked.

“You’re the one who agreed to this.” Lex snapped back.

“I had no choice, remember?” Lana replied, folding her arms.

“Then start acting like you care.” Lex told her.

“You can have your hand holding and your kisses, but I can’t make myself love you.” Lana said, Lex looked back at her blankly, hurt from her comments, knowing they were true.

“Love or not, you’re mine.” Lex kissed her, then Chloe walked in and he pulled away. “Hey Chloe, I was just leaving.” He grinned at Lana and left as Chloe stood there in shock.

“Chloe, I can explain.” Lana said with a worried look on her face.

“Explain what? That you broke up with Clark to be with a man who tried to kill you, because you knew Clark’s secret? I don’t think there is anything to explain.” Chloe said, brushing by Lana coldly.

“I didn’t mean for it to happen this way. I was going to tell you.” Lana tried to explain.

“Yeah…” Chloe said, brushing off her attempts to apology.

“You have to believe me.” Lana said, looking at Chloe with begging eyes. Chloe turned to her, looking her straight in the eyes.

“I don’t know if I believe anything you have to say anymore.” Chloe said and then shrugged, turning back to her desk.

“What is that suppose to mean?” Lana shoot back.

“It means, I don’t even know who you are anymore.” Chloe paused. “You do you know how many nights you kept me up, telling me how much you loved him? Telling me how happy you were? Why did you do that? CAN YOU TELL ME THAT!? Obviously it wasn’t true, it was just one big lie. You never really did love him and God knows how long you’ve been with Lex. Maybe that whole working with Lex to help Clark was just one big show. So, don’t you dare give me this, why don’t you believe me BS. Not after what you’ve done and said. Not after I have to see that look in his eyes. Not after what you’ve done to him and to his heart. You abandoned him, when he needed you the most. I don’t know if he’ll ever be able to forgive you for that or that I will ever be able to forgive you for that..” Chloe said. Tears beginning to well up in Lana’s eyes. Lana turned away, Chloe still stared glaringly in her direction. Then Lana gathered up strength and turned to Chloe.

“You need to help him.” Lana sternly said.

“He won’t listen to me, he won’t listen to anyone.” Chloe replied.

“Make him listen then. Chloe, I’m just a girl, but he’s not just a man, he’s something special. He’s going to save the world, he doesn’t need me or anyone else for that matter. He has the strength inside of himself, I’ve always believed that and I know you do too. Make him realize that too.” Lana said, emotion running through words. For a second, Chloe’s anger subsided and she saw the girl who had always loved Clark. She saw the sparkle and love in her eyes as she talked about him. Chloe paused for a second, before speaking again.

“I have to go.” She grabbed her things and brushed pass Lana to the door. Lana stood there, taking out her necklace from under her shirt and looked at it lovingly.

*Kent House*

Clark walked down the stairs slowly, hoping everything that had happened over the past week was a nightmare. It was just one big nightmare that he still hadn’t woken up from and was going to end anytime now. Part of that was true, it was one big nightmare, but it was reality. No matter how many times he woke up, nothing could change what has happened. So, Clark just dragged himself down the stairs and sat down at the kitchen table. Martha placed a cup of coffee in front of Clark. “Here you go sweetheart.” She said, he nodded to her in thanks. Taking a couple of sips as he stared emotionless out the window. Martha took a seat next to him. “Clark, I really think you should get out today.” Martha told him.

“Why?” Clark asked, not turning to her.

“You can’t stay here forever, you have to face the world again.” Martha said.

“There’s no reason to.” Clark told her.

“Just because you lost Lana, doesn’t mean you have to lose yourself.” Martha told him, looking worriedly at him.

“It’s too late, the day she walked out, was the day I lost myself.” Clark said.

“Maybe Lana wasn’t the one, maybe deep down you know that yourself. Not all adult relationships go the way we want them to.” Martha explained. Clark then put down his coffee and turned to her, emotion starting to fill his eyes.

“How could say that?” Clark asked in a whisper.

“I just want you to feel better Clark.” Martha replied apologetically.

“Lana’s the only girl I’ve ever loved, she isn’t just any girl mom. She was the one and I believe that with all my heart. There is just no point in going on, if it isn’t with her.” Clark said, putting on his cup of coffee.

“Clark, if your dad was here…..” Martha began, but Clark put his hand up to stop her.

“But he isn’t here and now neither is Lana.” Clark got up and walked away, Martha stared sadly in his direction as he walked away.

*Clark’s loft, later in the day*

Clark is sitting on his couch with a lead box in his hand, flipping the top on and off. Chloe then came up the stairs. “What are you doing?” She asked.

“Nothing.” He replied. She walked up to him.

“I hope you’re not doing what I think you are.” Chloe said, looking from the box to Clark.

“What would it matter.” Clark shrugged and Chloe took the box of his hands.

“WHAT’S THE MATTER WITH YOU!?!” She yelled at him and tossed the box aside.

“It just isn’t worth it anymore.” Clark replied.

“I’m sorry for what happened Clark. I know how much you’re hurting, but doing that won’t solve anything. You can’t just make problems go away.” Chloe told him.

“I wasn’t going to do anything, I was just thinking.” Clark argued, Chloe sighed and took a seat next to him.

“If I could make your pain go away, I would. However, I can’t, the only way it will go away is if you move on. Even then, I can’t promise you it will, but you have to move on. I know this is a lot to put on you now, but we need you. You have to be strong Clark.” Chloe said, pleading to him.

“There’s nothing left Chloe, there’s nothing left.” Clark told her, his hand over his heart. Chloe looked back sadly.

FRAGILE PART 2

*Lana's dorm room*

Lana laid on her bed, holding her necklace on her finger. 'Did I have another choice.' She asked herself. She had asked yourself that question all week and come up with the same answer. That answer was no, there was no other choice, there wasn't any other way out. She did exactly what she thought Clark would and that's protect the one he loves. Which is what she did, protect the one she loves.

However, the way Chloe talked about Clark disturbed her. How was he feeling? How badly was this affecting him? She knew it would hurt, but was it as bad as Chloe made it seem? Maybe she needed to do something, but would he even talk to her? 'I have to try.' She told herself. 'I'm not going to let him destroy himself over me, over us. He's much more than a boyfriend or husband. Clark is a hero.' She said, trying to convince herself. She loved him too much to let everything slip away.

*Hardware Store*

Clark is standing in line, waiting to pay for his things when he hears a loud bang. He turns around to see broken glass and nails all over the floor. A little girl is also standing next to them. She slips out before anyone can see her. Clark then pays for his things and leaves as the store employees clean up the mess as well as look for the person responsible.

When Clark gets outside, he see's the girl and goes up to her. "Did you do that?" He asked, she nodded. "Why?" Clark asked.

"I guess you could say I'm special." The girl replied.

"Special?" Clark questioned her, the girl looked scared by his reaction. "We're all a little special, where are your parents?" Clark wanted to know, he looked around trying to spot someone.

"I don't know." The girl told him, Clark put on a worried expression.

"Well, why don't you come with me to my house and maybe we can find them. My name's Clark Kent." Clark extended his hand, giving her a warm smile.

"My name's Maddie." The girl said, shaking Clark's hand. She feels comfortable around Clark.

"We can talk more when we get to my house." Clark said, then they left.

*Kent House*

Clark and Maddie walk in the house, Martha was going through papers until she heard the door close. Clark puts down his things and brings Maddie into the kitchen. "Mom, I want you to meet Maddie." Clark introduces her, Martha smiled warmly and bends down to Maddie's level.

"It's nice to meet you Maddie, I'm Clark's mother, Mrs. Kent." Martha says, Maddie smiles back.

"Hi." She replies.

"Why don't you sit down, well I get you something to drink and eat." Martha offered, Maddie nodded and took a seat. Clark followed Martha into the kitchen. "How did you find her?" Martha asked once they were further enough away from Maddie.

"On the streets next to the hardware store." Clark told her.

"Where are her parents?" Martha wanted to know.

"I don't know." Clark shrugged.

"We can't just pick up little girls off the street Clark." Martha told him.

"I know mom, but she looked scared and she's.....special." Clark said as Martha's eyes widened.

"She's special?" Martha said looking back to the girl.

"Yes, I'm not sure what she can do, but she says she's special." Clark explained.

“Alright, I’m sure we can make room for her, but we need to find her parents.” Martha said and Clark nodded. Martha then brought a plate of cookies and a glass of milk. “Here you go.” Martha handed Maddie the cookies and milk. She placed them on the table and started to eat.

“Maddie, we need to talk.” Clark said.

“Sure, about what?” Maddie asked cheerfully.

“Your parents, sweetheart.” Martha told her, Maddie, stop eating.

“I don’t want to talk about them.” Maddie firmly replied.

“But it is important, otherwise we can’t help you.” Martha tried to convince her.

“No!” Maddie said. She then got up and ran out the door. Martha put his hand on Martha’s shoulder.

“Let me talk to her.” Clark said. Martha just nodded.

*The Loft*

Maddie ran up the loft stairs, trying to find a place to hide. “Maddie? Maddie?” Clark yelled, coming up the loft stairs. He finally spotted her, looking out into the sky.

“What is this place?” She asked.

“My dad called it my Fortress of Solitude. It’s a place where I come to think and be alone.” Clark explained.

“I need one of those.” Maddie said, looking up Clark. He smile down at her.

“Well, if you ever want to borrow mine. You’re more than welcome.” Clark told her and she smile up at him. She had never meant anyone like Clark before. He was so kind and warm to her.

“You said you were special too, what did you mean?” Maddie wanted to know.

“Well, can you keep a secret?” Clark asked her.

“Yes.” Maddie said, shaking her head up and down.

“I have these abilities that allow me to do things you could only dream of.” Clark said, smiling warmly at her expression.

“Wow…” Was Maddie could mutter.

“You also said you were special, what can you do?” Clark said, looking down at her.

“I can break glass.” Maddie replied.

“How did that happen?” Clark wanted to know.

“I really don’t know, it just did, when I was little.” Maddie said, with a pained expression her face.

“Did something bad happen when you were little?” Clark said, recognizing her sadness.

‘My mom died.” Maddie told him.

“I’m sorry to hear that. I know what it’s like to lose a parent and someone you love.” Clark told her. Maddie then saw a picture on Clark’s desk of Lana.

“Who’s that?” Maddie asked, going up to the picture of Lana.

“It’s a picture of a girl I know.” Clark sighed, having all his feelings from the previous week return in a second.

“She’s pretty, did you like her?” Maddie said, looking from the picture to Clark.

“No, I loved her.” Clark said, tears welling up into his eyes.

*Kent House*

There was a knock on the door and Martha answered the door. “Hi, Mrs. Kent.” Lana said, standing there, feeling very awkward.

“Hello Lana.” Martha said, in a less than cheerful voice.

“Is Clark around?” She asked apprehensive about the answer she might get.

“He’s in the loft.” Martha told her.

“How’s he doing?” Lana asked, already knowing it was the wrong question.

“How do you think someone who just had their heart broken is doing? How do you think someone who had trade their father’s life for the life of the girl they loved only to have her break his heart, is doing? I always thought you were smarter than that, but I guess I thought you were a lot of other things as well.” Martha scoffed at Lana.

“I’m sorry…..” Lana said, about to break down.

“So I am.” Martha then shut the door, looking back for a second, before heading back into the kitchen.

*Clark’s Loft*

‘Okay, you expected that.’ Lana thought to herself as she tried to regain her composure. ‘They don’t understand, just like I never did.’ Lana told herself and made her way up the loft stairs. “Clark? Clark?” She said, making her up the loft stairs. Clark turned around and there she was. He thought she would never again walk up those stairs after her last visit, but there she was, standing right in front of him.

“What are you doing here?” He wanted to know. Maddie looked at both of them.

“We need to talk.” Lana said.

“I thought we did all of our talking.” Clark said coldly.

“Please?” Lana begged.

“Maddie, why don’t you go back into our house, until I come back?” Clark gave in.

“Okay.” Maddie said, taking one last look at Clark and Lana. There was an uncomfortable silence, until Clark broke it.

“You wanted to talk, didn’t you?” Clark firmly asked. It was clear right away to Lana what she had done.

“I want to know how you’re doing.” Lana said, showing concern in her eyes.

“Great, never better, next question.” Clark sarcastically replied.

“Just because we broke up, doesn’t mean I don’t want to be friends.” Lana offered.

“Oh, so you can break my heart, but we can still be friends. Isn’t that nice of you.” Clark said, getting more upset.

“I know you’re upset, but…” Before Lana could finish, Clark interrupted.

“Stop, just stop right there. You don’t know anything.” Clark told her. Lana was now doing her best not to cry and tell him the truth, but she had to be strong.

“THIS ISN’T ABOUT US CLARK! THIS IS ABOUT YOU AND YOUR DESTINY!” Lana shouted at him, trying to fight back.

“Don’t talk to me about destiny, you lost that right the day you walked out on me.” Clark snapped back.

“Whether you like or not, I still care about you and I won’t let you destroy yourself, not over me. You’re more important and special than I will ever be. You’re the one with the future, you’re the one who is going to change lives. I’m just the small town girl who was lucky enough to be around for the short ride. Stop being a coward and be the hero you should be.” Lana ranted at him. Clark stared at her as she glared at him, then he finally began to speak.

“There is no future, because there’s nothing left. Like or not, when you walked out, you took my heart with you.” Clark then got up and walked out, Lana stared ahead in pain. Lana knew there was only one last option here.

FRAGILE PART 3

*Kent House*

"Mrs. Kent?" Lois says walking into the kitchen. Martha comes right in when she hears Lois.

"Lois, nice of you to come by." Martha said cheerfully.

"Well, you said it was kind of urgent." Lois replied.

"It kind of is. I was wondering if you would be interested in being my Chief of Staff?" Martha said. Lois looked at her surprised.

"Me? Couldn't you find someone maybe a little more qualified?" Lois asked, making Martha laugh.

"Probably, but I'd rather have someone who I can trust." Martha told her and Lois smiled.

"Thank you Mrs. Kent." Lois said and they hugged.

"I was also hoping you could help Clark watch over Maddie. She's a girl Clark found at the hardware store, she has seemed to have lost her parents." Martha explained.

"Sure, kids are easy, it's adults that are hard." Lois laughed and went into the living room with Maddie.

Clark walks back in, shutting the door and laying his head on the door. He had never acted like that toward Lana ever before. He had always loved her so much that her faults seem to disappear to him or he usually thought he deserved it. This time was different though, he felt anger toward her, something he would never have thought could have been possible. Although he knew it was just the pain talking, trying to heal itself and shield itself from further hurting. No matter what happened, he knew that he would always love her. Martha then walked up to him, rubbing his back.

"I'm sorry." She said, already knowing what had happened.

"I yelled at her mom, I treated her horribly." Clark shook his head.

"You were just upset, that's all. You gave so much of yourself only to have her do that to you. It's okay to get so of it out." Martha said, sympathetically. Clark nodded and then sighed.

"Where's Maddie?" Clark asked.

"She's with Lois. I thought, considering your state of mind, you could use some help." Martha told him.

"You're probably right." Clark confessed.

"Good, they're in the living room." Martha said pointing to them and Clark made his way in there.

"So, we can play monopoly, maybe go to the park or play dolls." Lois says to Maddie as they girl looks like she's getting annoyed.

"I don't want to." Maddie replies.

"Come on, it will be fun." Lois tries to convince her.

"No!" Maddie says again.

"Oh come on." Lois tries to take Maddie's arm, but she pulls away and her milk glass shatters in pieces. Clark rushes in the living room.

"What happened?" He asked in shock.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to break it." Maddie said. Clark didn't understand.

"What do you mean?" He wanted to know.

"I broke the glass, I'm so sorry." Maddie told him and started to tear up.

"It's okay, Lois, why don't you get a broom and something to scoop up the glass with." Clark instructed her.

"Sure...." Lois said, looking wide eyed at the glass before slowly walking away. Clark looked down to Maddie.

“Is that what makes you special?” Clark asked calmly.

“Yes.” She said calmly, still looking upset at what she did.

“It’s okay Maddie, we all make mistakes. Sometimes even the best of us have problems controlling our gifts.” Clark told her with a kind smile.

“Thank you for being nice to me.” Maddie said.

“It’s okay, but for me to help you, I need you to tell me something about your past.” Clark said.

“My mother died when I was little in a car accident. I don’t where my dad is.” Maddie explained.

“Well, who was taking care of you?” Clark wanted to know.

“My adopted mother, but she died a couple of days ago.” Maddie told him, eyes tearing up.

“It’s going to be okay.” Clark said, gently rubbing her shoulder.

“I’m afraid, I don’t know where to go or what to do.” She said, holding back tears.

“Don’t worry, I’m going to find your dad and get you some help.” Clark said, trying to reassure her. Lois then came in and helped pick up the glass. “Lois, I need you to stay here with Maddie, until I come back.” Clark informed Lois.

“Where are you going?” Lois questioned him.

“To find her dad.” Clark replied, then smiled at Maddie, before leaving.

*Daily Planet, about 10 minutes later*

Chloe is sitting at her desk, moving her pen around her fingers in thought, when Clark walks in. “Hey.” Clark said, standing in front of her desk.

“Hey, how are you doing?” Chloe said, looking concerned.

“She actually came by to see me today.” Clark told her, looking away slightly.

“She did? How did it go?” Chloe asked cautiously.

“I kind of gave it to her.” Clark said in a sad tone.

“Oh….” Was all Chloe could say.

“I’ve never acted like that toward her before. Even when I was on red k.” Clark said, turning back to Chloe.

“That’s something you have to expect when you get your heart broken like that. Sometimes the only way to feel better is to get out how you feel, which is horrible. Maybe after a while, you two can go back to being friends.” Chloe said with hesitation.

“I don‘t know, my heart is in pieces and it may never heal.” Clark expressed some hope as Chloe nodded, not trying to give away what she knows.

“Just give it time. Is that what you came by to talk to me?” Chloe desperately wanted to change the subject.

“I was hoping you could help me. I found a lost little girl today and I brought her home. She has an unusual power to shatter glass and her dad is missing.” Clark explained.

“What happened to her mother?” Chloe asked.

“She died in a car accident.” Clark replied.

“Who was taking care of her until now?” Chloe said.

“Her adopted mother, but she also died.” Clark told her.

“Tough luck, maybe we can find something.” Chloe turned to her computer and found an article on the murder. “It appears the adopted mother was killed by shattered glass.” Chloe looked toward Clark.

“She wouldn’t have done that. Is there anything on the dad?” Clark needed to know.

“Only that he has a mother in a nursing home in Metropolis.” Chloe told him.

“I’m going to go see her.” Clark said and then walked out.

*FOS*

Lana stood alone in the Fortress. It was a really big place and although beautiful, kind of scary. She had only been here with Clark and he made it seem safe. This time she was alone, on a mission to help Clark. She had used the key to get here, taking it after she left the loft. She knew Jor-el was the only option she had left and she had to talk to him. What she was going to say, she didn’t know, but she loved Clark too much, to see him destroy himself. It was up to her to save him and she wouldn’t let him down. “JOR-EL! JOR-EL!” Lana yelled.

“Why have you come here?” Jor-el responded.

“Clark needs your help.” Lana told him.

“If he needs my help he can come here.” Jor-el said.

“He won’t come to you, he doesn’t trust you or forgive you for what happened to his dad.” Lana informed him.

“Then that is his choice. I did what was best for him, I couldn’t stop what was in motion, nor could I make the choices for him.” Jor-el explained.

“That’s because you don’t tell him the truth. You don’t tell him what he needs to hear, you give him orders and demands, like he’s a solider. He’s no soldier, he’s your only son.” Lana made a plead to him.

“Then what I am suppose to do? He won’t listen to me and you’re right, he doesn’t forgive me for what happened.” Jor-el said, in a tone which he never used before. One of worry.

“Be honest with him. Tell him how the people he loves need him more than ever and how he can’t quit, because of me.” Lana told him.

“You understand this destiny?” Jor-el asked..

“Yes, he’s going to be the world’s greatest hero, I know it and I believe it.” Lana said with full confidence.

“And you were willing to sacrifice yourself for it?” Jor-el asked, knowing what she did.

“Yes, how did you know?” Lana replied.

“I guess you could say I know a lot of things and see a lot of things." He paused and then began again. "I know I have seemed like a monster to him, but I do love him,, just like you do and I’m glad he met you. You have changed my perception of human emotions, they are much more powerful than I have known.” Jor-el confessed. “I will try to help him.” Jor-el then said.

“Thank you, for everything.” Lana said gratefully and then left.

FRAGILE PART 4

*Lex's Mansion*

Lex is on the phone when Lana walks in. "I'll call you back." Lex closed his phone and turned to Lana. "Take a seat." He told her.

"I'd rather stand." She snapped back.

"Suit yourself." Lex said.

"Is there a reason you called me here?" Lana asked annoyed by Lex's presence.

"I don't need a reason, you're my girlfriend." Lex said with a smirk.

"Okay, then I'll go." Lana turned to leave when Lex got up and grabbed her forcefully by the shoulders.

"If you continue to play games like this, then when I reveal Clark's secret I'll make sure he ends up like a caged rat." Lex paused and stared at her with no emotion. "You have no idea what I'm capable of and if you keep up with this attitude. I assure you, Clark won't be the only one who pays." Lex said, darkness filling his eyes.

"I'm sorry." Lana mummered and Lex let go of her.

"Good, now there was another reason I called you here." Lex confessed.

"What was it?" Lana asked, visibly shakened.

"What were you doing talking to Clark?" He questioned here.

"I just wanted to see him." Lana said.

"What did you tell him?" Lex wanted to know.

"I didn't tell him anything, I wouldn't do that to him." Lana told him as Lex examined her to see if she was telling the truth.

"I believe you, but it might be best to keep your distance from him. You wouldn't want me to get the wrong idea, would you?" Lex asked.

"No." Lana replied.

"Good, you can go now." Lex said and Lana walked away defeated.

*Kent House*

Lois and Maddie are sitting on the couch watching t.v. when someone knocks on the door. “I’ll get it.” Lois gets up and answers the door.

“Hello ma’am, I’m here from Child services, looking for a little girl named Maddie.” The man explains.

“Is she in trouble?” Lois asked.

“No, but she needs to come with me.” The man looks in and see’s here. He walks past Lois to the living room.

“Hey!” She says, following him.

“Maddie, you need to come with me.” The man says and grabs her arm. He drags her out to his car.

“No!” She screams as they approach the car.

“You don’t want to make her upset, trust me.” Lois tells him.

“She’s only a little girl.” The man replies.

“Okay…” Lois said, then when they got up right to next to the car, the window shattered into pieces and glass went every where. The man was killed and Lois was knocked out.

“Did I do that?” Maddie asked, becoming teary eyed.

“No, I did.” A voice said from behind her.

“Who are you?” She asked.

“I’m your father Maddie and I want to take you home.” He told her as she looked scared.

*Metropolis Nursing Home*

Clark walks up to the front desk. “Hi, I’m looking for a Ms. Baker.” Clark said.

“She’s in room 104.” The nurse informed Clark, then he walked away. When he got to her room, he knocked on the door.

“Come in.” The old lady said. Clark walked in and took a seat.

“Hi, you don’t know me, I’m Clark Kent.” He introduced himself.

“Nice to meet you, are you a friend of my son?” She asked.

“No, I’m a friend of his daughter. I was wondering if you could tell me where he is.” Clark explained.

“Last time I saw him, was at Belle Reeve. He was put in there for robbing a bank with his ability.” She told Clark.

“Was that the ability to break glass?” Clark needed to know.

“Yes, it was. How did you know?” She asked.

“His daughter can do the same. I’m trying to help her. Do you know if he’s still in Belle Reeve?” Clark questioned her.

“No, but I sure hope he is.” The mother said and Clark nodded.

“Was he dangerous?” Clark said, knowing he must have been to be in Belle Reeve.

“Let’s just say, there was always a few screws loose.” She said and Clark nodded, Clark got up, when she stopped him. “I don’t remember for sure, but he always seemed interested in a glass picture at this place called the Talon.” She informed him.

“Thanks.” Clark said, then left.

*Kent House, a little later*

Clark walks into the house as Martha greets him, looking worried. “What’s wrong mom?” He asked.

“Something happened with Maddie and Lois. I found shattered window glass outside when I came home. Lois was cut up, I brought her to the hospital and Maddie was gone.” Martha explained.

“If I think I know what happened. I’m going to find Maddie.” Clark said, then superspeeded away.

*The Talon*

“Come on.” Maddie’s father said, pulling her along.

“What are we doing here?” She asked.

“I need to pick up something.” He replied. He looked around and finally saw the glass picture he was looking for. Once he found it, he shattered it’s glass. All the people in the Talon screamed and ran out.

“Why did you do that?” Maddie wanted to know.

“To get what’s mine.” He said, pulling out the jewels, when Clark superspeeded in.

“Get away from her!” Clark yelled at him.

“No, I’m her father, she’s coming with me!” He shouted back.

“You’re the one who killed the Child service man and hurt Lois, aren’t you?” Clark said as Maddie looked on scared.

“Yes and I’m also the one who killed her mother. Now if you don’t step back, I’m going to hurt you too.” He said, glass shattered in Clark’s direction, knocking him to the floor as he shielded himself.

“Don’t hurt him!” Maddie yelled, looking worriedly at Clark.

“Shut up.” He told her and Maddie turned to him with anger.

“No!” She yelled in his face.

“Don’t get me upset.” He warned her, but Maddie stood her ground and stared him down. “That’s it!” He said and glass shattered, but instead of going into Maddie, it went into her father. He fell to the ground.

“Maddie!” Clark shouted and hurried to her, giving her a hug.

“I couldn’t let him hurt you.” She said and Clark nodded, then embraced her again.

*Chloe’s dorm room, that night*

Chloe and Clark were sitting on Chloe’s bed, talking about what happened early in the day. “Is Lois okay?” Chloe asked.

“Yes, she’s fine, but I think she cut her lip. Doctor’s said it would be painful for her to talk.” Clark informed her.

“Oh, good, now we won’t be the only ones who suffer.” Chloe and Clark laughed.

“Very true.” Clark paused. “We got Maddie a nice adopted family, I think she’ll be fine.” Clark said.

“I hope so, she must have had a tough life.” Chloe said.

“It’s always tough, when you have to grow up and be different.” Clark sighed, then Lana walked in.

“Listen Chl…..” Lana began, when her eyes locked on Clark. They stood there, looking into each other’s eyes. Until, Clark finally broke their stare and turned to Chloe.

“I’ll talk to you later.” Clark brushed by Lana and walked out. Lana turned to the door helplessly and then walked into the bathroom. Hoping to hold back her tears for just a moment longer. Chloe looked on, studying Lana’s reaction very closely, then looking thoughtfully at the door.

*Clark’s Loft*

Clark had gotten out of there as soon as he could. He could no longer look into the eyes of the girl who broke his heart. He couldn’t look at the eyes, who had always told him that she loved him. It was too much for him. “Kal-el” Jor-el called out as Clark snapped his head upward.

“Not now.” Clark thought.

“Kal-el.” Jor-el called again and this time Clark superspeeded to the caves with the key that Lana had put back. He transported himself to the FOS.

*FOS*

“I really don’t want to deal with you now.” Clark said as soon as he got to the fortress.

“We need to talk Kal-el.” Jor-el said.

“Talk about what? Are you going to take another life away from someone I love or have you called me to tell me you were right about love and human emotions.” Clark said in an anger tone.

“I have call for you as a father.” Jor-el said, in a more commanding tone.

“You could never be my father, I don’t care what you say.” Clark said without emotion or care.

“I couldn’t stop what was already in motion.” Jor-el told him.

“Save it, I don’t need to hear your crap.” Clark began to walk away, when Jor-el spoke again.

“I loved my Louise, just like you love your Lana.” Jor-el said, emotion in his voice, for the very first time. Clark stopped and gulped as he turned away.

“And how did you feel when she was gone.” Clark wanted to know.

“Like I had no reason to go on.” Jor-el replied.

“Then how did you?” Clark really needed to know.

“Because I realized that I had more important things to do than sulk and mope. I had to fulfill my destiny, I had to save my world. We’re different my son, we don’t have the luxury of moping, especially you. You must find Milton Fine and stop him, before it’s too late.” Jor-el said, finally talking to him like his son.

“What if I can’t stop him?” Clark asked.

“Then everyone you love and everything you know will be destroyed.” Jor-el said. Clark sighed and looked helplessly into the crystal.

Lois cut her lip - can't talk - LOL that was funny. It takes someting like that to shut her up.

This part caught my attention:

“I’ll talk to you later.” Clark brushed by Lana and walked out. Lana turned to the door helplessly and then walked into the bathroom. Hoping to hold back her tears for just a moment longer. Chloe looked on, studying Lana’s reaction very closely, then looking thoughtfully at the door.
I get the feeling Chloe is watching both Clark and Lana carefuly, & will somehow be helpful in their reconciliation.

I also loved the visit with Jor-El - and how it was Clark who spoke with no emotion, and Jor-El who finally did speak with emotion - as he spoke of Louise. That was cool.

Thanks for the update. PPMS!

MERCY

*Lana and Chloe's dorm room*

It had been two weeks since Clark and Lana broke up. Chloe didn't understand it then and doesn't now. Lana has never given her a clear reason why she did it or at least one Chloe had believed. At first, Chloe was just upset at how Lana could break Clark's heart and then go to Lex. However, being a reporter that she was, she thought something didn't add up. That there was something she was missing in all of this. So, she spent the next couple of weeks studying Lana closely and had come to some conclusions, which she planned on sharing with Lana very shortly.

Lana got up from her chair after finishing a conversation on the phone. "I'm going out." Lana told Chloe, grabbing her car keys.

"Where are you going?" Chloe wanted to know.

"To see Lex." Lana replied.

"Why?" Chloe immediately asked.

"Because he's my boyfriend Chloe. Do I need another reason?" Lana firmly said.

"Oh, right, boyfriend. Even though you're still in love with someone else." Chloe said and turned back to her books.

"What are you talking about?" Lana said, walking up to Chloe.

"I'm talking about your necklace." Chloe pointed to it, under Lana's sweatshirt. Which Lana had made a habit of wearing not to give anything away.

"What about it?" Lana asked.

"It's only the present Clark gave you for Christmas. Why would you wear it if you didn't love him? In fact, why would you wear it if you moved on, like you claim?" Chloe questioned Lana.

"It's none of your business." Lana sternly told her.

"You're right, it isn't my business. It's yours and Clark's business." Chloe paused and stood up out of her chair. "Please Lana, stop this and tell me what's going on here. I know when you're being less than truthful and I know you still love him. Don't do this anymore, not to him and not to yourself." Chloe pleaded as Lana looked sadly into her eyes.

"I have to go." Lana turned and walked out. Chloe dejectedly watched her go. Then grabbed her keys and hurried out the door.

*Kent House*

Clark walked downstairs, still trying to find himself. He knew what he had to do, but he really didn't know if he could do it. If he could defeat Fine by himself, not without her. Then there was the Lionel problem, which he still didn't tell his mom about. Martha then walked in from the living room. 'Now is as good a time as any.' Clark thought.

"Hey honey." Martha said, giving him a kiss on the cheek.

"There's something we need to talk about." Clark said, in a worried tone.

"Okay, what is it?" Martha asked, catching onto Clark's tone.

"He knows." Clark whispered.

"Who knows?" Martha replied confused.

"Lionel knows my secret." Clark told her and Martha looked away sadly.

"It's my fault." Martha said, looking back to Clark.

"What?" Clark didn't understand how it could be her fault.

"A month ago, I got a letter telling me that if I didn't give up a million dollars your secret would be exposed. There was a tape and Lionel found out it. He promised to take care of it and i let him." Martha said, putting her face in her hands.

"It's okay mom, you didn't know." Clark tried to reassured her.

"But I should have known. If your father was here, he would have." Martha told him.

"I miss him too mom, but he isn't here and we have to deal with this by ourself." Clark explained and Martha nodded.

"You're right and don't worry, I can handle Lionel." Martha said, getting up and grabbing her brief case.

"Love you mom." Clark smiled and Martha smiled back.

"Love you too honey." Martha said and then left.

*Lionel's Limo*

Lionel is talking on his cell phone as his Limo drives. "That is unacceptable, I don't pay you for effort. I pay you for results." Lionel told the person. "I know you have a family, but we don't make money by keeping workers out of pity. Now get the job done or look for another job." Lionel hangs up his cell phone and then suddenly the Limo stops, right on train tracks. Lionel looks confused as he see's the driver window go up and his tv go on.

"Hello Lionel." A man on the tv said. The man has a mask on.

"Alex! Alex!" Lionel shouts, trying to get his driver's attention.

"Alex won't be returning." The man said.

"Where is he? What did you do to him?" Lionel asked.

"That's not important Lionel. What is important is saving yourself from the train that is about to cross these tracks." The man explained, Lionel noticed all the doors were locked.

"How do I get out of here?" Lionel wanted to know.

"Playing a simple game of hang man." The man replied and a picture came on the screen, two words were shown. "You have five chances Lionel, solve the word and you're free, get your guesses wrong, then you die."

"I don't play games." Lione told him.

"Today you do, now i suggest you hurry up." The man told him.

"O." Lionel said and O appeared as one of the letters. "I." A head appeared. "H." A body appeared. "L." An arm appeared and Lionel heard the sound of the train. "W." Another arm appeared.

"Come on Lionel, it's something you taught me." The man said and Lionel finally understood.

"E." It appeard as one of the words. "M." It appeared as well and the train was getting closer. "No Mercy. No Mercy!" Lionel said and the word appeared. The doors then unlocked and Lionel escaped before the train destroyed his limo.

*An hour later, Lex's mansion*

Lex is sitting at his desk, awaiting Lana, when Lionel storms in. "Why did you do it Lex?" Lionel asked. Lex looked at up him confused.

"Do what dad?" Lex questioned him.

"Kill my driver and try to kill me." Lione wanted to know.

"Kill you and your driver? Why would I do that?" Lex wanted to know.

"With our history I wouldn't put it pass you." Lionel said. Lex smiled and walked to him, putting his hand on Lionel's shoulder.

"Dad, you're the CEO at LuthorCorp, you make me money. I wouldn't do anything to put that in danger. Sure, you've tried to take LuthorCorp back and tried to kill me. But you're still my dad and I wouldn't kill you, you're too valuable." Lex explained and Lionel nodded his head in shock, because he knew Lex was right.

Im sorry to inform everyone that I will not be writing another update again. I just have no desire to write clana or anything smallville, because it makes me sick, smallville does. I honestly feel sick coming to this site and the clana is of little relief, because al/miles have killed it. I've never actually hated a show, but it has come to that with smallville. And i've gone from loving clana to it just being neutral to me. Anyways, thank you for reading, I may come on from here and there, because reading clana has become a habit which hopefully i'll be rid of soon. Lastly, I will leave this thread open to anyone who wants to finish the story. I will be around k-site for a little bit and will gladly tell anyone where I was going with this story. I had everything planned out, so feel free to ask and take over the story.

MERCY PART 2

*Lex's Mansion*

Lana walks in as Lex is sitting down in a chair playing chess. "Take a seat." Lex motioned to the seat in front of him.

"What are you doing?" Lana asked him.

"Playing chess. It's a very interesting game. The winner of the game is always the one with the best strategy, the best game plan to win. It's about positioning your pieces in the correct spots and then preparing to attack." Lex paused to look up at Lana. "What do you do think is the most important piece?" Lex said, staring at Lana.

"I have no clue." Lana replied.

"The queen." Lex then paused. "See the key to winning is taking out the king and the most important thing to the king, is the queen means everything to the king. Without the queen, the king becomes an easy target." Lex explained, obviously with a hidden meaning.

"What the hell is that suppose to mean?" Lana said, catching on.

"Why would it mean anything, besides some insight on chess?" Lex wanted to know.

"Because everything you say has a hidden meaning Lex. I've known you long enough to have picked up on that." Lana told him.

"And I suppose you think that has something to do with you and Clark, right?" Lex asked.

"Sure sounds like it." Lana said, her arms folded.

"Maybe it does, but it shouldn't matter. You're with me now and Clark is of little interest to me." Lex continues to speak as Chloe walks quietly in the hallway. She hears Lex talking and assume Lana's in there, so she goes as close as he can to the door, listening to what he's saying. "As much as you might feel dislike toward me Lana. I, on the other hand feel love for you. So no, I would not hurt Clark, as long as you keep up your end of the deal." Lex explained, Chloe looked confused.

"What deal?" Chloe whispered to herself.

"I would never break our deal. I love Clark more than life itself and I would never allow you to reveal his secret. I will protect Clark's secret with my life." Lana said, glaring at Lex.

"Oh my God." Chloe whispered in shock. 'Now it all made sense. The way she had been acting, the necklace, the seemingly unhappiness that had hovered over her.' Chloe thought, fighting the urge to run in there and kill Lex. Lex's phone rings and he see's that it is Fine.

"I'm sorry Lana, we'll have to continue our chess lesson late. You can see yourself out." Lex said and Lana gladly got up. Chloe heard her coming and quickly made her way out as well.

*Lionel's office in LuthorCorp*

One of Lionel's security men are checking for devices in Lionel's office. Lionel is watching him very closely as he does. "Make sure there is nothing here. If there is and you don't find it. The next job you have will be as a hotdog vendor." Lionel told him as the man continued.

"Nothing here." His security man told him.

"Good, now I must get to work." Lionel said, the man nodded and left. Lionel went to his desk and opened his laptop, when the lights went out.

"A hotdog vendor? Same old Lionel, always demanding perfection and threatening his workers jobs." A man, who was the same from the limo said.

"Which is why I've become successful. I challenge my workers, face to face. Speaking of which, why don't you come out and face me, man to man." Lionel challenges him, while grabbing his gun.

"Okay Lionel." The man said. Lionel got up and started looking around, when he got hit from behind. The man with the mask, stood over a fallen Lionel.

*Unknown Area*

Lionel woke up to find himself in sort of a cage. He could feel the heat underneath him as got up, also noticing a long pole with two buckets on each end. Lastly, he turned his head up and saw a TV screen. Then suddenly the mask man appeared on the TV screen. "Funny, how you pay so much for security, yet in the end the whacko who's coming after you is still able to kidnap you." The man said.

"Am I here to play another game of hang man?" Lionel asked in sarcasm.

"No, but we will be playing games." The man replied and then began again. "See the pole with the two buckets?" He asked.

"Yes." Lionel replied.

"Well, to escape this room you're going to need to place the pole on the bolder in behind you." The man explained.

"What's the catch?" Lionel asked instinctively knowing there was one.

"The catch is, not falling into the fire below you as you try to place the pole on the holder. The buckets are filled with gasoline oil, so I guess you can imagine what might happen if you drop some in the fire below you. Oh and one more thing, there's a time limit. Let's hope for your sake you do better than your limo driver." The man explained, then the screen went blank and the floor in front of Lionel began to slowly open. Lionel quickly put the pole on his bench, stepping slowly onto each step. Finally making it on the last one, carefully inching to the edge as he tried to place the pole on it's holder. Finally he was able to do so, making the floor stop opening and also opening a door.

Mercy Part Three

*Kent House*

Clark is sitting on the couch watching TV, when the phone rings. He walked to the counter and picked it up. “Hello?” Clark said.

“Yes, I was wondering if I could speak to Senator Kent.” The man on the other end asked.

“I’m sorry, she went to a meeting.” Clark replied.

“Well, if you’re talking about the meeting she had today with me at noon, then she never showed up.” The man informed Clark.

“What do you mean she never showed up?” Clark asked, now filled with concern.

“I’ve been waiting at her office for over three hours now and she never came.” The man said as Clark face now turned to anger.

“Ok, thank you.” Clark said, then hung up the phone before superspeeding away.

*Daily Planet*

Chloe sat her desk, trying to wrap her around what was going on. ‘I can’t believe she would do that.’ Was Chloe’s first thought, then it turned to. ‘Wow, Lana is so brave, I can’t begin to understand how much courage it would have taken me to do that.’ Then, of course she asked herself the usual question. ‘What am I going to do? Should I tell Clark? Or wait to talk to Lana?’ That last thought was interrupted by Clark walking in and up to her desk. “Hey Clark.” Chloe said, putting on a smile.

“Hey….” Clark replied, obvious by the look on his face that he came her for an important reason.

“Is something wrong?” Chloe asked.

“Yeah, my mom didn’t show up for any of her meetings today.” Clark informed Chloe.

“Maybe she just forgot or decided to take a day off.” Chloe threw out there, knowing it would be immediately shot down.

“Chloe, my mom doesn’t miss appointments and considering the conversation we had today, I’m not going to take any chances.” Clark sternly told her.

“What conversation?” Chloe questioned him and Clark then remembered that he failed to Chloe that Lionel knew his secret.

“Well………” Clark paused looking away before turning back to Chloe. “I told her that Lionel knew my secret.” Clark confessed as Chloe looked at him in shock, putting her hand over her mouth.

“How long has known?” Chloe wondered.

“I don’t know, all I know is that when I was injected with that hallucination drug at Met U my dad came to me and told me that Lionel knew. For how long, I really don’t know, but I imagine he’s known for a while now.” Clark explained.

“You know, I yearn for the days when there was actually some good news to give to each other.” Chloe sighed.

“Me too.” Clark replied with a sad look.

“So the obvious question is what are you going to do? Or maybe even more obvious of a question, what does he want?” Chloe asked with her hands on her hip.

“I don’t know, but I don’t think we can afford another enemy. I feel like the walls are closing in, that my enemies are surrounding around me and everyone I love.” Clark said with obvious concern in his eyes for the situation they were in.

“You know Clark, considering how bad things seem to be right now. I think we should consider letting Jor-el help us.” Chloe suggested, trying to get a gauge on Clark’s reaction.

“I’m thinking we don't have much of a choice either. I just don’t want to go to him, because I know this is what he wants.” Clark said, looking defeated.

“Listen, I know what he’s done hasn’t been right. But he is your biological father and a part of me believes that he truly loves you. Maybe all of this has just been one big test to get you ready for what’s coming. I don’t know Clark, I just………we need help.” Chloe said throwing her hands up as Clark looked on, knowing she’s right.

“I know, I know……..” Clark gave in and began again. “I’ll think about it after we find out where my mom is.” Clark said and Chloe nodded.

“Do you think Lionel did something to her?” Chloe asked.

“For some reason I get the feeling he didn’t. Lionel’s always had a thing for my mom and besides that, if he did take her, we would have known by now.” Clark told her.

“You’re probably right, so where does that leave us?” Chloe wanted to know.

“Well, I’m going to go talk to him.” Clark replied.

“But I thought you said you didn’t think he took her?” Chloe said with confusion.

“I did, but Lionel being Lionel, he always knows something.” Clark said, turning to walk away. When Chloe suddenly remembered Lana.

“Clark!” Chloe yelled out and he turned around.

“Yeah?” Clark said and then Chloe thought she better talk to Lana before she did anything.

“Be careful.” Chloe told him and he gave a little smile.

“I will.” Clark then turned around and left as Chloe sighed.

*LutherCorp*

Lionel’s office is empty, with security tape around the door entrance to keep people out. Only Lex stands inside looking around, as if he’s looking for some sort of hint or just thinking. Clark then walks in under the tape and Lex turns to him. “Clark, what are you doing here?” Lex questioned him.

“I’m looking for your dad. I need to talk to him.” Clark informed him.

“About what?” Lex wanted to know, Clark stared at Lex for a second, deciding if he should tell him.

“I wanted to ask him if he saw my mom today.” Clark said with concern in his eyes.

“Your mom isn’t by any chance missing, is she?” Lex asked and Clark looked at him curiously.

“Why would you ask that?” Clark wanted to know.

“Because so is my dad.” Lex told him.

“Do you think someone took them both?” Clark questioned Lex.

“I wouldn’t doubt it, but the question is who.” Lex said, pacing around the room.

“Should I even bother asking who want to do this to your dad or should we just skip to the part where I ask when the last time someone saw your father was?” Clark sighed.

“The last time he was seen was in his office earlier today. He brought in his people to check for bugs, but they couldn’t find anything and no one saw anyone come in or out of the office besides him.” Lex explained.

“Doesn’t your dad have cameras in here?” Clark said, looking around.

“No, my dad wanted one place where he could just think and do deals, without cameras.” Lex said.

“Also makes it easier to do illegal deals.” Clark muttered.

“That’s true, but we can put him on trail some other time.” Lex said and Clark nodded, remembering the bigger task at hand.

“Mind if I look around?” Clark asked Lex.

“Be my guest, I’ve always known Clark Kent to be quite the blood hound.” Lex said with a grin which Clark ignored and began to look around with his x-ray vision. Eventually Clark comes across a statue and saw a device in it.

“I think I found something.” Clark said walking up to the statue. “Was this statue always chipped?” He asked Lex as Lex walked up to the statue.

“No, my dad would never let anyone touch this statue, it’s priceless to him.” Lex said looking up at Clark and Clark gave him a look. Then Lex picked up the statue and threw it to the ground. When the statue broke their was a device laying on the floor.

“Someone was watching him.” Clark pointed out, staring at the device.

“Or watching his movements, this device gives off some type of signal.” Lex explained.

“I need to get this to Chloe, so she can help us find our parents.” Clark told him sternly.

“If she can help, then go.” Lex said and Clark began to walk away. “Wait.” Lex said, Clark turned to Lex and Lex threw him his keys. “Take my car, it’s faster.” Clark nodded and walked away. Lex’s face is filled with mixed emotion.

Mercy Part Four

*Unknown Area*

Lionel walked through the door to see Martha being kept in a giant glass container. “Martha! Martha!” Lionel yelled hurrying to her and banging on the glass. Martha tried to talk, but it was of no avail. Lionel then looked around to see the mystery man on a T.V. monitor. “LET HER GO, she isn’t involved in this.” Lionel shouted with anger.

“Of course she is. Everyone involved with you and your ways is involved in this. Haven’t you understood that yet?” The man asked him.

“I’m the one you want.” Lionel told him.

“No, Lionel, I don’t want you, I want justice for you and everyone around him. That includes you, now stop wasting your time begging for her life and get her out of there before the water fills up.” The man informs Lionel as water begins to fill the container.

“What do I need to do?” Lionel wanted to know.

“Solve the puzzle.” The man said pointing to the puzzle. Lionel looked at the puzzle, confused at first. He had no wonder, but Martha did, she would give him hand signals. Soon he would start to get some right, but the water kept amounting and amounting. He was coming very close, but the water had reached the top. Martha was now under water, Lionel began to press, but he put the words together and shouted out the answer. The glass broke and Martha fell to the ground.

“Martha, are you alright?” Lionel asked with concern. Martha caught her breath and nodded.

“Do you know who this is?” Martha questioned him.

“No, I don’t. I’m sorry to say that it could be a number of people.” Lionel confessed.

“How did we get out of here?” Was Martha’s next question.

“Interesting question Mrs. Senator.” The man on the screen appeared again. “There’s only one test left. Much like the many test Lionel would put his own son through, during the years of his life to toughen him up. Imagine that, willing to destroy your own son, until he becomes the man you are.” The man explained as Lionel turned to Martha with remorse.

“Lionel…..” Martha said, somewhat sadly at the look on his face.

“He’s right Martha. I have turned my own into the person I am or was. There’s nothing worse than looking into the eyes of your son and seeing the monster you created. Just like my father did to me.” Lionel told her.

“You can talk to Lex, maybe you can help him.” Martha encouraged him.

“I’m no Jonathon Kent, I don’t have it in me. Even if I could, he’s no Clark and wouldn’t understand. We’re Luthers and nothing can change that.” Lionel said with conviction in his face.

“Sorry to interrupt, but I thought you two should know that the floor is about to be electrocuted and to move in the chamber in front of you for your finally test.” The man told them as Martha and Lionel hurried into the chamber. “Good job, now here’s your chance to escape.” Two guns appear out of the wall on holsters. “The first person to kill the other will get to leave.” The man announced. Martha looked on in horror as Lionel had a knowing look.

“I didn’t expect to leave here alive.” Lionel said, taking his gun as Martha continued to look in horror at Lionel.

“Lionel, please don’t do this. Let us out of here.” Martha shouted.

“He has to pay for his crime. I lost everything because of his games.” The man said.

“Is that what you want? “ Lionel asked and began again. “Fine, it is my fault and I’m the one who’s going to have face that the rest of my life.

“That’s all I wanted to hear.” The man proclaimed. Suddenly, they both felt a gust of wind and Clark was standing in front of the chamber.

“Clark.” Martha said, almost knowing.

“Let’s get you out of here.” Clark rips apart the caged fence.

*Chloe and Lana’s Dorm room*

“Your welcome, you know I love always helping…….I’m glad their okay…..Yeah, I might need to talk to you later…..See ya super farm boy.” Chloe hang up her cell, when Lana walked through the door. Chloe walked up to Lana. “Lana….” She began, not knowing what to say.

“Yes.” She responded, turning to Chloe. Then Chloe suddenly brings her into a tight hug.

“I’m so sorry, I should have known. I’m sorry for everything I said and just everything in general.” Chloe confessed as Lana was in shock.

“What are you talking about?” Lana questioned her.

“I was at Lex’s and I heard him talk about the deal you two made. Lana, I can’t begin to say how much I admire your courage and strength.” Chloe said as Lana, face grimaced at the thought of Lex and the deal she made.

“Chloe……I….” Lana didn’t know what to say.

“It’s okay, but we have to tell Clark.” Chloe said, but Lana shook her head furiously.

“No, we can’t tell Clark, this my decision and my choice.” Lana explained, breaking away from Chloe’s hug and walking to the window.

“Lana, you can’t do this by yourself. This is dangers, what if he tries to hurt you.” Chloe questioned her.

“I don’t care what he does to me. This isn’t about me this is about Clark and his future.” Lana responded, still staring out the window.

“But Lana….” Chloe began before Lana stopped her.

“No butts Chloe, you have to promise me you won’t tell him. I mean really promise me.” Lana said with emphasis as she turned to Chloe.

“You can’t ask me to promise you something like that.” Chloe said, becoming emotional and Lana approached Chloe.

“I know what I’m asking you. Just listen to me, I love Clark more than anything in the world. I’m willing to sacrifice anything for that love, including myself. I know this may sound dumb, but I’m just a girl who grew up in Kansas and a photo on Time Magazine. I’m nothing more than that Chloe, Clark is going to save the world and the least I can do is make that happens. That’s not going to happen if the world knows his secret and I’m not going to allow that. If that cost me my life, then so be it.” Lana explained as Chloe looked up her sadly and admirably.

“Okay…” Chloe reluctantly agreed.

“Thanks and could you promise me one other thing?.” Lana said and they hugged again.

“Sure.” Chloe agreed again.

“Promise that you’ll be there for him and you won’t let him give up. That you’ll help him get over me and on with his life?” Lana asked.

“I’ll do my best.” Chloe replied.

“I know you will, I know.” Lana said as they hugged each other tightly.

*Clark’s Loft*

Clark is standing in his loft, looking in the stars. Mostly thinking about how bad things are screwed up. “I never get someone with your abilities always stayed locked up in this loft.” Lionel said as Clark turned around to see him standing there.

“Because there’s a lot on ones mind with who possesses these abilities. For example, what they should do with someone they don’t trust knowing their secret.” Clark said, obviously talking about Lionel.

“Yes, well, you don’t need to worry about that. You should know by now that if I wanted something I would have already called in the favor.” Lionel explained and Clark still didn’t look impressed.

“How long have you known?” Clark asked.

“Ever since I held the stone that turned me into Jor-el. It actually made me see the light, so to speak.” Lionel told him.

“Yeah…..” Clark responded.

“I know you can’t trust me Clark, but I’m going to ask to you anyways. I think we can help each other.” Lionel admitted.

“You have a son Lionel, if you want to help anyone, help him. As for my mother, I don’t know what you want with her, but I’m warning you to tread carefully.” Clark announced and walked past Lionel as Lionel watched him leave.

*Lex’s mansion, an hour later*

Lex is on the phone when Lionel walked in, Lex saw Lionel and hung up the phone. “Dad, glad to see you’re okay.” Lex said, some what sincerely.

“Yes, I’m glad to be okay. Although, it would have been nice to find the person who was responsible for this.” Lionel said and Lex nodded.

“Do you have clue who it was?” Lex wanted to know.
“No, I don’t, but he made me realize my sins.” Lionel confessed.

“Oh really.” Lex said, some what surprised and not believing.

“And where I really screwed up most was with my own son.” Lionel said, looking at Lex with a remorseful look. “I turned I tried being tough with you, because that was the only way I knew how. After Julian Died, I became unable to love and then your mom died. The woman I loved, who hated me, resented me for what I done. I was unable to be there for you, to help you and I just went the other way. I thought maybe if you toughened up, you would be able to change and become who I wasn’t.” Lionel emotional explained to Lex.

“Come on dad, we’re Luthers. This is who we are, we want money and power. We seek knowledge and to become the best.” Lex told his father with confidence.

“Yes, that’s who I am, but it didn’t have to be who you are.” Lionel once again said and took Lex’s face in his hand. “It should have been different.” Lionel said, staring into Lex’s eyes and then walked away, stopping at the door. Putting his on the wall to hold himself up, overcome with emotion. “I love you son.” Lionel said before leaving as Lex stared in shock toward the door unable to move.

*The Caves*

Clark stood in the caves, key in hand, staring at the chamber. Kal-el……” Jor-el called. Kal-el……” He called again. Clark then super speeded away.

Looking for something ive never seen
Alone and im in between
The place that im from and
The place that im in
A city ive never been
I found a friend or should i say foe
Said just a few things you should know
We dont want you to see
We come and we go
Here today, gone tomorrow

Were only taking turns
Holding the world
Its how its always been
When youre older, you will understand

If I say who I know it just goes to show
You need me less than I need you
Take it from me
We dont give sympathy
You can trust me trust nobody
But I said you and me
We dont have honesty
The things we dont want to speak
Ill try to get out but I never will
Traffic is perfectly still

Were only taking turns
Holding this world
Its how its always been
When youre older you will understand

And again maybe you dont
And again maybe you wont

When youre older
You might understand
When youre older
You might understand

Fade Part One

*Clark’s bed room, a week later*

Clark sat on his bed in his room, wondering if he made a mistake. Should he have gone to see Jor-el? Maybe, but he couldn’t, it’s just didn’t feel right. Although, it seemed lately that nothing felt right, that he couldn’t even talk to any more. He couldn’t talk to Chloe, he couldn’t talk his mom and could never talk to Lois. He knew they loved him and were here for him, but they could never understand him, no one could. Not even Jonathon or Lana could understand him, but they were different. Jonathon, couldn’t understand what he was going there, but he always knew what Clark was thinking and the right thing to say. No one could reach him like his dad could. Then again, there was no one like Jonathon Kent and never would be. Clark sighed as he thought the other person could understand him.

“Lana……” He whispered. Ever since she found his secret, it was almost like she become this whole different person. She was always able to make him feel good, even before she knew, but when she did know, she had this way of taking the pain he felt away. Almost as if she would take the pain off his shoulders and bring to her, making him remember that their love was stronger than anything that could possibly bother Clark. She wouldn’t let him feel bad, she wouldn’t let him hurt, not when she was there. Now that was gone, there was no more gentle words or caressing of the cheek to make him remember. Lana was gone and so was Jonathon.

The door to Clark’s door slowly opened as Martha found her son sitting on his bed, much like she had many years before. But unlike many years before, it was also like Martha lost her touch. Losing Jonathon meant as much to her as it did to Clark. Jonathon always held Martha when she sad and in situations like this took her hand, telling her everything would be alright. He would tell her they’re a family and they would get through this together, just like they always did. Just like they always will……Of course he wasn’t here to say that anymore, when they needed to hear it the most. Then there was only thing for her to do, say it herself. She was Clark’s mother and she wouldn’t let him down, not when he needed her the most. A mother’s job is never done. Martha walked up to Clark and took a seat on his bed.

“Hey honey.” She said warmly.

“Hey mom.” Clark replied.

“How are you doing?” She asked, already knowing the answer.

“I’ve been better.” He sighed.

“Yeah, we’ve all been a lot better.” Martha conceded and Clark nodded, then Martha began. “Listen, I know what I told you the day Fine infected me with that disease. That you’re a man now and my job is done….” Martha said.

“Mom….” Clark began, before Martha put up her hand for him to stop.

“But I was wrong, a mother’s job is never done, especially considering what has happened over the past months. I’m still your mother and I’m here for you.” Martha told him.

“Thanks.” Clark said.

“Except, the fact is, I haven’t been there as much as I should have. I guess I’m not as strong as I thought I was. Jonathon’s death really did a number on me and I’m still trying to recover. I forgot that I need to be here for you. You’re my son, I love you and I’m not going to let you drag yourself down.” Martha explained.

“I don’t know what to do.” Clark confessed.

“Well, we don’t always know the answers Clark. The last few months have been tough on you, especially for you and it’s just hard.” Martha said.

“Everything was going so good…..How can things just get so bad? Now I’m suppose to stop Fine? I don’t know if I can do it.” Clark acknowledged.

“Clark, you can do anything, I believe that and so did your father. You’re more than just the average man, not just because of your powers, but because of your heart. You will get through this……” Martha paused, remembering Jonathon’s words. “No, we will get through this., together, as a family.” Martha firmly told him.

“I love you mom.” Clark replied.

“I love you too and I promise from now on, I’m going to be here as much as I can.” Martha said as they hugged.

*Luther Mansion*

Lana sat on Lex’s couch in his office area, reading a book, when Lionel walked in. “Hello Miss. Lang.” Lionel greeted her.

“Hello, if you’re looking for Lex, he hasn’t come back from his business trip yet.” Lana informed Lionel and Lionel nodded, looking at Lana’s book.

“Romeo and Juliet….” Lionel pointed out Lana’s book.

“It’s for a class at Met U.” Lana told him.

“Ah….It’s a classic tale of romantic tragedy.” Lionel paused before beginning again. “Two lovers who are fighting for the right to be together, only to have faith come in and take their love away. What I find so interesting about the book is how Juliet puts herself to sleep, thinking she was protecting Romeo, only for Romeo to kill himself and then she kills herself shortly after. Funny how when you think you’re protecting someone, you’re actually hurting them and setting them up to hurt themselves.” Lionel said, obviously with more meaning to his story than just his thoughts.

“What is that suppose to mean?” Lana asked, picking up on Lionel’s subtle hint.

“That you’re playing a very dangerous game, Miss. Lang. You’re trying to protect the man you love, but all you’re going to do in the end is hurt him and yourself.” Lionel said.

“And if I don’t do this Lex will tell the world about Clark. I’m not going to let that happen, if I have to be Juliet and take my life, then I will.” Lana firmly told him, meaning every word of what she said.

“That’s very noble and courageous of you. You’re obviously more strong than I or anyone else could have thought. I applaud you, but is this something Clark would want?” Lionel questioned her.

“Clark would try to protect me, but it isn’t about me. This is about Clark, Clark is the special one and my love for him will never die.” Lana answered.

“Again, very noble of you, but do you I don’t think you realize what Lex is capable of. I don’t think you realize what’s happening.” Lionel stated.

“I know what Lex is capable of and I know Clark is capable of stopping him.” Lana said, before correcting herself. “I know Clark will stop him.” Lana re-stated and Lionel nodded.

“Watch your back, Miss. Lang.” Lionel said before walking as Lana stared over her shoulder thoughtfully before turning back to her book.

*Unknown area, the previous day*

Two officers and a man walked into a room. “The witness is secure.” One man calls out on his radio. The other man turns to the witness.

“You’ll safe in here, we’ll be guarding the door.” The officers assures the man. The officers walk outside and lock the door. Suddenly, the man starts struggling and you can hear bones crack as the man falls to the ground dead.

*Metropolis Streets*

Clark is walking to the Daily Planet, when he saw a man walking across the street and suddenly a car is speeding up. The car is in a direct b-line for the man, Clark saw that and super speeded into the street, knocking the man into the sidewalk. The man got up and looked admirably at Clark. “You saved my life!” The man told Clark.

“I did what anyone else would have done.” Clark modestly replied.

“No…no, not everyone would have done that. I owe you big time.” The man said.

“It’s no big deal. I have to go.” Clark said and rushed away as the man smiled at him.

So who did Clark save? I have absolutely no idea, myself...

*Later in the day*

Lois is playing video games when Clark walked in. Clark is shocked to see a large plasma TV and an X box 360 in his living room with Lois playing it. “Lois! Where did you get this?” Clark shouted.

“It was delivered here, Smallville.” Lois informed him.

“By who and for who?” Clark asked, swearing in his head if it was Lionel.

“For you and I don’t know who from.” Lois said, moving back and forth as she plays the game. Clark looked on confused.

“Who the heck would send me this?” Clark asked out loud.

“Someone with a lot of money.” Lois pointed out as Clark looked at her thoughtfully.

*Daily Planet a little later in the day.*

Clark and Chloe walked through the doors to Chloe’s desk. “Wow, obviously someone likes you.” Chloe said, referring to the gifts that Clark got.

“I guess so.” Clark replied.

“So can I borrow it? I hear you can get HD from the plasma TV.” Chloe said as Clark looked at her shocked.

“I sent the TV back Chloe, I sent all of the stuff back.” Clark said as Chloe looked bummed out.

“There goes movie night.” Chloe said, snapping her fingers.

“Yeah……” Clark said, before beginning again. “I wonder who sent all of that stuff to me.” Clark questioned.

“They didn’t leave a note?” Chloe wanted to know.

“No note, I even called the company and they didn’t know who sent the stuff either.” Clark mentioned.

“What about father Luther? After everything that happened with him and your mom, do you think he would try to get on your good side?” Chloe asked.

“I doubt it. Lionel would make it known he sent all that stuff, plus he knows we would send the stuff back.” Clark answered.

“Then what about Lex? Maybe he wants to try and win you back or at least make you think he still cares.” Chloe threw out there as a choice.

“Maybe, I think I’ll go pay him a visit.” Clark said and turned to leave, when Chloe remembered who was there.

“No!” Chloe yelled and Clark turned to her alarmed.

“What? What is it?” Clark asked, looking around.

“You can’t go see Lex.” Chloe told him.

“Why not?” Clark wanted to know.

“Because……he’s on a business trip. He won’t be there.” Chloe informed him.

“That’s ok, I’ll just wait.” Clark said with a shrug.

“But it’s rude to go into someone else’s home when they’re not there.” Chloe said, stepping in front of him.

“What’s going on?” Clark looked at Chloe suspiciously.

“Nothing, nothing, I just need you here.” Chloe hugged Clark.

“Chloe, come on.” Clark laughed and gently took Chloe off of him. “I’ll see you later.” Clark walked away, taking one last look at Chloe and had a fake smile.

“Maybe she won’t be there…” Chloe said nodding her head. “Oh, who am I kidding…” Chloe threw up her hands.

*Luther Mansion*

Lana is still reading her book, when Lex walked in with his briefcase. “Why hello there.” Lex greeted her as he walked by, placing his briefcase on his desk.

“Hi.” Lana replied, keeping her eyes on her book.

“You know, I actually missed Smallville when I was gone.” Lex sincerely said.

“And why is that?” Lana asked just to humor Lex.

“Oh, I don’t know, the cows, the big fields, the farms.” Lex paused and walked up to Lana, taking the book from her hands. Then he lifted her up to face him. “I missed you.” Lex brought Lana into a deep kiss and she complied. As they were kissing, Clark walked into the doorway and saw it all. He stood there in complete shock and disbelief. His mouth hanging wide open, tears welling up in his eyes, before he was able to walk away as the look stayed on his face.

*Clark’s loft, moments later*

Clark stumbled up to his loft, he didn’t know what to do. This was the most horrible, unbelievable feeling in the world. How could she do this to him? Wasn’t he honest? Didn’t he tell her the truth? Didn’t he love her with all his heart? Didn’t he save her all the times she needed help? Did she not know all that Lex did? Didn’t he tell her all the things that happened with Lex? Doesn’t she remember what happened the day of the second meteor shower or the day that never happened? Clark asked him all those questions and as he asked all those questions, one questions was pushing to come out, one question that he dared to never ask. “How could she betray me?” Clark asked out loud. He looked around the loft and suddenly an anger overcome him, one that he had never felt before. Clark walked up to his telescope. “All the days I wasted looking at her and falling in love with this stupid thing.” Clark takes the telescope and breaks it in half, throwing it to the ground. He then walked over to the couch.

“All the time spent we spent talking, kissing on here. It never meant anything.” Clark smashes the couch into pieces. Finally he walked up his desk. There stood a picture of him and Lana at Christmas. He picked up the picture, staring at it in anger and finally throws the picture to the ground as it shatters to pieces. Then he kicks and the legs out from under the desk. The desk falls to the ground and then he stood there looking around, as if searching for a way to rid him of his anger. Suddenly he stopped looking, the anger in his face left and he slowly fell to the ground. He wrapped his legs in his arms and started to cry, like he had never had before.

“Why?” He asked as he cradled himself.

Why is this Clark's darkest hour? Well, let's see, the love of his life is with his former best friend and basically now enemy, despite Clark telling her everything. His dad is dead, Fine is loose and he feels more alone than ever.

So everyone knows about Lana except for Clark and Lex. What a mess.

Lex knows about Lana, Lois nor Martha don't know.

Fade Part Three

*That night in the loft*

Clark stayed in that position for hours and now it was 2 am, Lois finally walked on the loft stairs. “Smallville?” Lois asked and almost leaped when she saw him as well as the mess he had made. “Did a tornado come through here?” Lois said as she looked around.

“Go away Lois.” Clark coldly replied, not even looking at her.

“Your mom wants to know if you’re coming in?” Lois walked up to him.

“No.” Clark quickly murmured as Lois looked down on with sympathy, for the first time, like a sister would toward her brother.

“No girl is worth all of this.” Lois said, hoping to convince him that it was true.

“She wasn’t just any girl, she was my everything. The only girl I’ve loved and the only girl I will ever loved. You do have any idea what’s like to love someone so much and know you can’t possibly love anyone else more? That can never give any girl, what you gave to her?” Clark questioned Lois and Lois shook her head.

“No, I don’t know Clark.” Lois said as Clark continued to stare ahead with coldness and pain filling his eyes.

“That’s right, you don’t, no one could ever understand what I’m going through and I don’t want a lecture from anyone. Especially not you, now go away.” Clark coldly muttered.

“Listen, I know I’m not the person you want to see right now. I know the way I act sometimes would lead you to believe I don’t care about you as much as I do. To be honest, I’m just not that kind of fuzzy, teddy bear loving type of girl. I was raised on an army base after all. Anyways, I never had a brother, up until I met you.” Lois sincerely told him.

“Normally, that would meant a lot to me, but right now, nothing means anything anymore.” Clark responded.

“Just know I’m here, if you want to talk.” Lois offered, placing her hand on his shoulder before walking away.

*The next day, Lana and Chloe’s dorm room*

Lois stormed into their dorm room and immediately walked up to Lana. “How could you do this to him?” She furiously asked.

“Lois….I….” Lana didn’t know how to respond.

“I always liked you Lana, but what you did to Clark was unforgivable. How could you betray him like that? How could you hurt him like that?” Lois sternly questioned her.

“You don’t understand Lois and I can’t tell you.” Lana stated and walked away from her desk.

“What is there to understand?” Lois wanted to know.

“A lot and if you don’t know that, you should stay out of this.” Lana advised.

“Clark is like my brother and I’m not going to sit on the sidelines, while you continue to hurt him.” Lois firmly told her.

“You have no choice Lois, because this isn’t about you.” Lana said, as she walked to the door.

“Is this who you are? Are you a backstabbing *****?” Lois shouted at her, using language that took Lana off guard.

“You don’t know me or what’s going on, SO GET OUT.” Lana screamed back at Lois.

“Why don’t you make me?” Lois threatened and Lana began to approach.

“A got a lot of anger in me, don’t try me.” Lana issued a threat of her own.

“I’m standing right here.” Lois replied, when Chloe walked in and saw the both of them in a showdown.

“What is going on here?” Chloe questioned them.

“I’m going to beat some sense into Lana.” Lois informed Chloe.

“And I’m going to beat the talk out of Lois, no matter how long it takes me.” Lana snapped back before Chloe jumped in between them.

“No one is going to hit anyone. Now what is going on?” Chloe questioned again.

“Clark is a mess, because of this girl, he even destroyed his loft. I’m not going to let her hurt him anymore.” Lois said without hesitation.

“Wow, Lois here for Clark. What a strange turn of events.” Chloe pointed out.

“She doesn’t know what’s going on and she isn’t going to.” Lana emphasized the last part to Lois.

“Lois, Lana’s right, you don’t know what’s going on. You’re going to have to trust us Lois.” Chloe said in a calm voice and Lois calmed down a bit.

“Well, whatever is going on, a hope you two know what you’re doing, because it’s leaving Clark a mess.” Lois said and then walked out.

“Clark….” Lana muttered when Lois left, pain instantly filling her eyes. Chloe took Lana into her arms.

“He’ll be fine, I promise, I’ll do everything I can for him. The person I’m worried about is you.” Chloe confessed.

“As long as he’s okay, I’ll be okay.” Lana admitted.

“You may think that Lana, but you and I don’t know how far Lex will go. We don’t know if he wants just you, it might be more than just you.” Chloe tried to explain.

“I have to do this, I’ve been more sure of anything in my life. Ever since I’ve known his secret, I knew this day would come. The day I would have to make a sacrifice that would lead him to his destiny. I promised myself I would be strong and do what I had to do, no matter what.” Lana said with confidence.

“Lana…..” Chloe began, before Lana interrupted.

“Can you check on him?” Lana asked and Chloe nodded.

“Of course I can.” Chloe agreed.

“Thanks.” Lana said as she leaned her head on Chloe’s shoulder.

*Clark’s loft, a couple hours later*

Clark stood over the wreckage, some how he had managed to gather himself some what. Sure you can wipe away your tears, clean off the dirt and change your clothes, but you can change your heart or the brokenness you’re feeling inside of you. Clark stood over the broken picture of Lana, when he heard footsteps. “No, I don’t want to talk about it.” Clark said, without even looking over his shoulder.

“Wow, so now you have eyes in the back of your head to go along with all of your other abilities.” Chloe said, sounding impressed.

“No, I just know you a little too well.” Clark said as he turned around.

“Yeah, that goes along with the knowing each other for years package.” Chloe told him.

“So how long did you know?” Clark asked, getting right to the point.

“Ever since I walked in on them.” Chloe told him.

“When were you going to decide to tell me?” Clark wanted to know.

“When Lana let me, it’s her decision. I couldn’t just tell you.” Chloe said and Clark walked up to her.

“You couldn’t tell me? So I guess our friendship means nothing.? So I guess it means nothing to you what she has put me through? ARE YOU BETRAYING ME TOO?” Clark shouted and questioned as Chloe couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

“Clark, how could you believe any of that? Our friendship means everything to me and what Lana did was wrong, but she’s still my friend. More importantly, I would never betray you. You mean too much to me. Clark, I know you’re hurting inside, but don’t turn on the people who care for you the most.” Chloe said, sincerity filled in her eyes.

“What am I suppose to believe? Nothing is what it seems anymore and I feel more alone than ever.” Clark said, turning to his loft window.

“You’re not alone, I’m here, Lois is here and your mom is here. Just let us be here for you, don’t do this to yourself.” Chloe said with concern.

“I AM ALONE.” He shouted and turned back to her. “Don’t come here and act like you understand. You want to be my friend? Then leave me alone, because I don’t want to talk to anyone or anybody, I just want to be alone.” Clark said as he turned to her and then back to his window.

“Ok……” Chloe said and began to leave before turning around. “I don’t understand Clark, but I know what it’s like to hurt like this, to feel more alone than ever. You don’t know how many times I felt like this after my mom left and my dad was always working at his job. I thought I had no one and I couldn’t talk to anyone. Do you know what changed that?” She asked him.

“No, I don’t.” Clark coldly answered.

“You walked into my life and I’ve never felt alone since.” Chloe said before she walked out as Clark looked on thoughtfully.

*Kent House*

Lois came back from her jog to find a strange man in the house. “Who are you? And be forewarned I grew up on a military base.” Lois threatened.

“Umm, my name is Graham. I’m the one who sent the plasma and x-box that currently is no where to be found in here.” He explained.

“Oh, so that was you.” Lois nodded being some what impressed.

“Yes, so who are you? Clark’s girlfriend?” Graham asked as Lois almost choked.

“Excuse me? Clark’s girlfriend? I think not, I’m Lois Lane.” She extended her hand and he accepted it with pleasure.

“Nice to meet you. Do you know where Clark is?” Graham wanted to know.

“He’s up in his loft, but if you plan on going up there I would be careful.” Lois warned.

“Why?” Graham questioned.

“He’s going thru a tough time.” Lois told him.

“Well, maybe I can cheer him up. Nice to meet you.” Graham began to walk out before stopping to turn around. “I’m going to invite Clark to a party tonight, would you like to go with us?” Graham offered.

“Sure.” Lois accepted.

“Ok, I’ll be here around seven.” Graham said and Lois nodded.

*Clark’s Loft*

Clark stood looking out of the window, anger still brewing inside of him. “Nice play.” Graham said as he looked around at the mess.

“It use to be…….” Clark said and paused realizing he had no idea who this was. “And you are?” Clark wanted to know.

“The man who’s life you saved.” Graham informed him.

“Oh, how did you find me?” Clark asked.

“Your press pass and my knowledge of the area.” Graham said as he continued to look around.

“Is there something I can do for you?” Clark questioned him, not really in the mood for conversation.

“No, it’s what I can do for you and since TV’s or video games won’t work, why don’t you tell me.” Graham suggested.

“You sent all that stuff?” Clark needed to know.

“It was the least I could do for the man who saved my life.” Graham said as Clark thought to himself, doesn’t this sound familiar? Remembering Lex from 5 years ago.

“Listen, I don’t want anything. I don’t need anything, at least anything you could give me.” Clark explained.

“Lois warned me you were going thru a tough time.” Graham paused when he saw Lana’s broken picture on the ground. “She looks beautiful, I can see why you would be hurt.” Graham said as Clark glanced at the picture before turning away in pain.

“Please, you don’t owe me anything. I just want to be left alone.” Clark said with plead in his eyes.

“I understand losing someone Clark. I’ve been thru thing, just let me do you a favor. Just allow me to take you to a party tonight and then we’re even. I need to do this for you, you saved my life.” Graham said with a plead of his own.

“Fine.” Clark gave in.

*Metropolis, Graham’s Party*

Clark, Lois and Graham all arrived at the party around 8. “Clark, why don’t you walk around and see if you can have any fun.” Graham offered and Clark shrugged. “Lois, would you like a drink?” Graham asked.

“Sure.” Lois said as Graham lead her. Clark found a window with a view of metropolis and stared out of it sadly. A couple of minutes later, a beautiful raven haired woman walked up next him.

“What’s a handsome man like you staring out a window so sadly for?” She asked and Clark turned to her.

“I’m just having a bad day.” Clark admitted.

“Oh, well, then why aren’t you with your girlfriend?” She asked.

“I don’t have one.” Clark told her, leaving out some information.

“You must be lying to me. A handsome guy like you without a girlfriend?” She asked pretending to be shocked.

“No, it’s true and the name is Clark Kent.” Clark said as he began to notice the similarities between this girl and Lana.

“My name’s Gia, want to join me outside?” She offered her arm.

“Sure.” Clark accepted and they walked outside together. Once outside, Gia turned to Clark and leaned in for a kiss. Clark returned the kiss at first, before backing away.

“I can’t do this, I loved my girlfriend.” Clark said

“But she didn’t love you, maybe you need someone who can.” Gia told him.

“I don’t even know you.” Clark said, as he tried to get her to back off.

“Don’t worry, Graham told me everything, he just wants you to have a good time.” Gia explained.

“I’m sorry….” Clark walked away from the girl and went to find him dancing with Lois. “Can I talk to Graham for a second.” Clark asked, getting in between the dance.

“Sure Clark.” Graham said, as he smiled at Lois before going with Clark.

“Did you tell Gia to come on to me?” Clark wanted to know.

“I thought you needed some company. You didn’t like her?” Graham said with sincerity.

“I don’t do that with girls and I’m not over my last girlfriend.” Clark confessed.

“You really loved her, huh?” Graham asked, feeling bad.

“I did.” Clark said with the feeling of pain in his heart.

“I’m sorry man, maybe there’s still hope for you two?” Graham said, hoping for Clark.

“She’s dating someone else.” Clark said in a low painful voice.

“Maybe we can change her mind.” Graham suggested.

“I doubt it.” Clark sighed.

“Who’s the guy?” Graham said as the anger in Clark grew.

“Lex Luther.” He muttered.

“Wow, the billionaire.” Graham was shocked.

“Yeah and my former best friend.” Clark said as Graham, had a sick look on his face.

“Ouch, the double whammy.” Graham said and Clark nodded.

“Thanks for the party, but I need to be by myself.” Clark turned and left as a small smile appeared on Graham’s face.

*The Mansion*

Lex is on his cell phone. “It’s almost ready.” Lex said with some urgency.

“I hope so, we’re becoming impatient.” Fine said.

“I assure you, they’ll be ready in no time.” Lex said hung up, but after he did, he fell to the floor in pain as blood from Lex’s head began to drip as he laid there unconscious. Lana walked in and saw Lex on the floor.

“What the….” Lana walked over to Lex and saw him knocked out as well as bleeding.

“Oh God….” Lana paused as she decided on what to do. “I’m probably going to regret this, but I can’t do this to anyone, not even him.” Lana took out her cell phone and call 911.

*Smallville Hospital*

Lana looked through the window at Lex who laid in the bed. How easy it could have been to just leave him there or maybe even finish the job. ‘Oh God.’ Lana covered her mouth in horror at thought. “Is he doing that bad?” Clark said as Lana closed her eyes, composed herself before turning to Clark.

“No, he’s going to be alright. The doctors just feel he needs a little rest.” Lana informed him and Clark nodded.

“Do you know what happened?” Clark asked, trying to keep his own composure as he stared at her.

“I walked in on him and found him on the ground.” Lana told him, hopeful he wouldn’t ask what she was doing there.

“What were you doing there Lana! I mean, you know everything Lex has done. Why were you there?” Clark asked with force and emotion, as he desperately tried to hold back.

“I had to return some books, that’s it.” Lana lied and Clark turned away, unable to even look at her anymore.

“Did you see who could have done this?” Clark questioned, not wanting to spend another second near her.

“I think I saw someone with a black trench coat, about six feet and black spiky hair.” Lana explained.

“Ok.” Clark said and began to leave, before Lana grabbed his arm. He pulled away quickly from her grip.

“I just wanted to ask what’s going on.” Lana said with a small plead in her eyes.

“Don’t worry about it.” Clark coldly replied and walked out. Lana watched as he walked away, thinking to herself, ‘So this is what’s like to be on the other end of the secret.’ and sighed as she turned back to Lex.

*Graham’s office*

Graham walked in to see Clark staring out his window. “You wouldn’t happen to know if Lois was flowers or candy kind of girl?” Graham asked Clark.

“Were in Smallville today?” Clark wanted to know, ignoring Graham’s question.

“Yes, I happen to like Smallville. I’ve been there many times.” Graham told Clark.

“Did you attack Lex?” Clark wanted to know.

“What reason would I have to do that?” Graham folded his arms curiously.

“Because you think it will help me with my former girlfriend.” Clark said.

“Ok, I admit that with Lex out of the way, you would have no more girl troubles.” Graham confessed.

“I’m taking you to the police.” Clark told him and went to grab him, when Graham took out a knife. He tried to stab Clark, but the knife broke.

“Looks, like I wasn’t the only affected by the meteor shower.” Graham said and then faded away. Clark looked around and used his x-ray vision, but found nothing, then super speeded away.

*Daily Planet*

Clark walked toward Chloe’s desk. Chloe saw him, hoping he was at least some what better. “No, I don’t want to talk about what happened in the loft. I just needed someone to help me with this Graham thing.” Clark admitted and Chloe nodded.

“I understand and I’m here to help. Lana told me what happened with Lex, can’t say I’m saddened at the least, but I’d rather not see anyone dead. So tell me about this guy.” Chloe sat back in her chair.

“I went to try and bring him into the police, but he somehow faded away. I tried to use my x-ray vision, but nothing.” Clark explained and Chloe nodded.

“You know, I recently saw an article about somebody from the FBI’s most wanted list. They call him the chameleon, he’s a known hit man for criminals looking to get out jail time by hiring him to kill off their witnesses.” Chloe explained.

“You think Graham is the same guy?” Clark eyes shot up.

“Well, you told me what he can do and I know from the article that x-ray vision wouldn’t be able to spot him. Not to mention the strange timing for him being in town the same day that a witness to a murder trial was found dead behind closed doors. Behind security guarded closed doors.” Chloe informed Clark.

“I’ve got to find him.” Clark said and began to leave before Chloe stopped him.

“Clark, this isn’t a run of the mill meteor freak. This guy is on the FBI’s most wanted list and even they couldn’t stop him.” Chloe told him.

“Well, I’m not the run of the mill FBI agent, if you recall.” Clark said, raising his eyebrows in emphasis.

“I know that Clark, but think about it, he can be any where at any time and if I recall you do have a weakness.” Chloe reminded him.

“He said he had been in Smallville before. He couldn‘t know about the meteor rocks.” Clark said and Chloe shrugged.

“He’s a fly on the wall and he’s going to see Lois tonight. All I’m saying is be careful.” Chloe said and Clark nodded.

“I will.” Clark said and then left as Chloe looked on.

*Lois’s apartment*

Lois is doing some make up when she answers a knock on the door. “Smallville…” She said, trailing off.

“We need to talk.” Clark said as he walked in.

“About what?” Lois asked following him.

“It’s Graham.” Clark said.

“Oh, he must have told you about our date tonight.” Lois said as Clark looked at her curiously.

“Date?” Clark gave her a funny look.

“Yes, date! Are you surprised?” Lois asked and Clark thought about making a joke, but passed.

“Listen, Graham’s dangerous.” Clark told her.

“What? What are you….” Lois began, but Clark stopped her.

“Shhh….” Clark’s super hearing kicked in. “I have to go Lois.” Clark rushed out of the Talon, he saw Graham in the alley.

Fade Part 6

*Talon Alley*

Clark caught up to Graham. “This needs to end Graham.” Clark told him as Graham had his back to Clark.

“I agree.” Graham replied and turned to Clark with a green meteor rock. Clark began to fall to the ground in pain.

“Ahhhh……” Clark screamed in pain as Graham leaned over him with a meteor rock.

“It’s kind of sad, you know we could have been good friends. Now I‘m going to have to kill you along with Lex and Lana.” Graham said and placed the meteor rock inside Clark’s shirt.

“No……” Clark tried to shout as Graham walked away.

*Smallville Hospital, later in the day*

Lana stood outside of Lex’s room, until he waved her into the room. She reluctantly walked into the room and went to the side of his bed. “You’re awake.” She said, mentioning the obvious.

“So, why did you do it?” Lex wanted to know.

“Do what?” Lana tried to avoid the question.

“Call the ambulance and get me to the hospital. I could have died there.” Lex said with a sense of sincerity in his tone.

“I’m not a murderer, I wouldn’t want to see anyone dead. Not even you.” Lana told him.

“I believe you and I’m grateful. I guess that’s why he loves you so much.” Lex pointed out.

“Right…..” Lana said as she looked away.

“I saw you talking to him….” Lex said, trailing off.

“I didn’t tell him anything Lex.” Lana quickly replied.

“Oh, I know that, but I know you want to tell him about us. So, I’m going to allow you to see him.” Lex explained to her, although Lana wanted to keep their relationship a secret forever. She knew that she couldn’t.

“Thank you….” Lana said and nodded her head, immediately thinking about what she could possibly tell Clark. Suddenly, Lex got up with a gun in his hand and stood in front of Lana. “Lex, what’s going on.” She asked in confusion.

“He’s here.” Lex said as he moved around the room to the door and he led Lana out into the hall. As they moved around the hall, suddenly they were both hit from behind and sent forward as the gun was sent back. Then Graham appeared with the gun in his hand.

*Talon Alley*

Lois came out of the alley, wondering where Graham could be. ‘Ugh’ She thought, did he stand her up. Then she got a call. “Hey, cous.” Lois said recognizing Chloe.

“Lois, you have to listen to me. Graham isn’t who you think he is. Graham is dangerous.” Chloe explained.

“Clark tried to tell me the same thing.” Lois said.

“Lois, do you know where Clark is? I can’t seem to reach him.” Chloe informed her.

“No, he suddenly left, after he warned me about Graham.” Lois, then thought she saw something. “Oh my God, Chloe it’s Clark. I’ll call you later.” Lois ran to Clark. “Smallville?” Lois removed the meteor rock.

“Ahh, thanks Lois.” Clark said and got up. “I have to find Graham.” Clark ran at normal speed.

“Wait a….” Before Lois could finish, Clark was gone.

*Smallville Hospital*

“Say goodbye.” Graham fired at Lex and Lana, they both dived to the floor. The suddenly, Clark came out of no where in super speed and grabbed the bullet, then knocking Graham out in the head. Speed then returned to normal as Lex and Lana exchanged looks. Lex picked himself up as Lana stared at Clark, who for a second returned his, before he turned away.

“I’m glad to see you’re alright.” Clark said, before he walked away.

*Lana and Chloe’s dorm, the next day*

Lana sat on her bed as she desperately tried to find the words to tell Clark about her and Lex. Chloe then walked in and took a seat next to Lana. “I’d ask who it’s going, but then I would feel like an idiot.” Chloe said, somewhat jokingly.

“I don’t know Chloe, I just don’t know anymore.” Lana shook her head.

“There is no easy answer here Lana. You’re in an incredibly tough position.” Chloe said, trying to comfort her.

“There was an easy answer.” Lana said and paused as Chloe looked some what confused. “When I saw Lex there, bleeding and knocked out….I thought about leaving him there or maybe even finishing the job.” Lana said with a gulp, knowing how bad it sounded.

“Oh Lana……” Chloe said, sympathizing with her.

“I know, I just want this to end, but I couldn’t do it.” Lana said as her eyes wandered.

“I know you do and that’s what separates you from him. You are not a murderer.” Chloe told her and placed a hand on her shoulder.

“But I wanted to Chloe.” Lana said, hating herself for it.

“But you didn’t, that’s the point.” Chloe told her.

“I guess you’re right. Now I have the pleasure of telling Clark about me and Lex.” Lana said as Chloe gave an “eek” face.

“Well, on the bright side, he won’t be surprised.” Chloe said as Lana turned to her in shock.

“He knows?” Lana said and then put her face in her hands.

“He kind of walked in on you guys.” Chloe explained.

“Great……Well, maybe he’s hand some time to get use to it….” Lana paused and looked at Chloe. “I’m so wrong, aren’t I?” Chloe nodded at her question.

“It’s very bad Lana and I’m not even talking about Kal bad, it’s worse. I mean, he gave it to me pretty hard as did he did to the rest of the loft.” Chloe gave her the details.

“I can take it.” Lana tried to convince Chloe.

“I’m not so sure Lana. He accused me of betraying him, I can’t imagine what he would say to you. Maybe it’s best if you leave him be.” Chloe suggested.

“I can’t do that. “ Lana quickly replied.

“Ok, but I think I’m going to pick up some more tissues at the store.” Chloe said and Lana nodded sadly as she leaned her head up against Chloe.

*Daily Planet that night*

Clark and Chloe walked down the stairs as they finished their conversation about Graham. “So he really set up with a girl who looked like Lana?” Chloe questioned with curiosity.

“Yep, it was kind of creepy.” Clark said as Chloe nodded in agreement.

“About Lana….” Chloe began before Clark stopped.

“I shouldn’t have questioned our friendship and I’m sorry Chloe. I’m just……I don’t know what to do. I mean I told her the truth, I did I everything I could. She accepted me, told me she loved me and would marry me. What happened?” Clark put his hands through his hair.

“It’s okay Clark, I know you’re hurting and you’re angry.” Chloe paused and shook her head. “And I can’t say anything that would make you feel better or take away that pain, but if I could I would.” Chloe confessed and Clark nodded.

“I know you would, you’ve always been there for me.” Clark paused as he shook his head. “But you can’t be there for me this time, no one can.” Clark said with absolute sincerity as Chloe looked at him in pain. “I’ll see you later.” Clark said and walked away.

*Loft that same night*

Lana walked to the loft, taken aback by the site of everything being such a mess. ‘Oh my.” She said to herself. The first thing she caught sight of was the broken picture of her and Clark. She picked it up and stared at it, looking thru the broken frame. As she looked at the picture, Clark walked up the stairs and saw her there. With the same he’s been feeling lately, he wasn’t sure he should. Despite everything that happened, he still loved her and he didn’t want to hurt her, no matter what she did to him. Of course that was how he felt deep down and right now, the anger and pain he felt wouldn’t let him remember that. “I was just to clean up the place.” Clark walked up to Lana, took the picture from her hands and threw the picture in the trash. Lana, felt her heart stop for a second. “So what are you doing here?” He asked, turning to her with an impatient, emotionless look.

“I just wanted to tell you something, but I heard you already knew.” Lana informed him.

“About you and Lex? Yes, I know.” Clark said, staring a hole right thru her.

“I was going to tell you.” Lana tried to convince him.

“I’m sure you would have, but you were too busy stepping on the remains on my heart to find the time.” Clark told her as Lana turned away.

“It isn’t like that Clark.” Lana said, hoping for him to believe her, despite knowing he wouldn’t. He couldn’t.

“Then what was it like Lana? Was it too much? Did you have a hard time loving an alien? Did you want a human? Was that it? I wouldn’t be surprised if you told Lex my secret or if you haven’t yet, I’m sure that’s up next.” Clark said with absolute anger overcoming him as Lana looked on horror, unsure how she was holding back her tears.

“Clark…….” She was only able to mutter.

“Come on Lana! You’re all about honesty, tell me the truth. I’m the reason your parents are dead, I’m the reason all those meteor freaks attacked you. If it wasn’t for me, you would have a normal life. So, tell me which was it.” Clark said now consumed with anger, staring right into Lana’s face.

“Don’t say that……You did nothing to me, but love me.” Lana said, trying to keep her composure.

“No, I must have done something to deserve this. I must have done something to be fooled into thinking you ever loved me or ever gave a damn about me.” Clark snapped at her.

“I did love you……” Lana and thought, ’I do love you’.

“I don’t believe that and frankly, I’m tired of talking about.” Clark turned away from her, going to the window. “You know the way out.” Clark said with his back to her. Lana stood there, unable to react, until finally she walked down the stairs and left.

Alternate Part One

*Lana and Chloe’s dorm room*

Chloe slept peacefully in her bed as Lana stirred in hers, sweat dripping down from her head.

~Dream Sequence~

Lana stood in a factory, there were tubes every where with seemingly different kind of substances every where. She couldn’t make out what the substance was as she continued to walk around. Suddenly, Fine stood in front of her. “You.” She whispered.

“Yes, me.” He coldly replied with a smirk on his face.

“What is this place?” Lana asked.

“This a factory, owned by Lex.” He said without emotion in his voice.

“Lex…..What do you want with it?” Lana questioned him.

“Not what I want from it, but what it will give me. Not that it means anything to you, nothing you can do about it.” Fine told her.

“Clark won’t let you do this.” Lana told him with confidence and he laughed at her.

“Kal-el won’t know.” Fine said with ever greater confidence.

“I’ll tell him everything!” Lana stared hard into Fine’s eyes.

“Why would he believe you? The woman who betrayed him.”

~End of Dream Sequence~

Lana shot up from her sleep as the sweat streamed down her face. She breathed heavy as she looked around, glad it was just a dream.

*Later that night*

It was raining furiously as Lana drove back to her dorm that night. Thundering and Lightning soon followed as it was becoming very hard for Lana to see. Struggling to see, Lana finally lost control of the car and she spun off road. Her car was stuck in a mud pit, coincidently there was a large pile of meteor rocks. Lana got out of her car and threw he hands up in the air. “Great.” She huffed, it definitely wasn’t her day she thought. In fact, she thought, it definitely hadn’t been her year. “I wish 2006 would go away.” She said to herself, when thunder hit the meteor rocks near Lana, which created a force so strong that it knocked Lana out.

*The Next day, Clark’s Loft*

Clark is stacking hay when Chloe walked in. “You’re doing that awfully slow for someone with super speed.” Chloe pointed out as Clark continued to stack hay.

“I’m doing my chores more slowly now a days. It helps take my mind off things when I have to concentrate on what I’m doing.” Clark explained.

“Oh….” Chloe paused and Clark noticed she looked worried.

“Is something wrong?” Clark asked and Chloe nodded.

“Lana’s missing.” Chloe said as she gauged Clark’s reaction.

“Are you sure?” Clark replied.

“She didn’t come back to the dorms last night and I already checked with Lex, she wasn’t with him.” Chloe told him.

“Maybe she just needed to get away.” Clark said with a bit of worry.

“And not tell anyone? All her travel bags are still in our room.” Chloe protested.

“She’s a big girl. I’m sure she can handle herself.” Clark said as he began to stack hay again

“You could act like you care, even a little bit.” Chloe told him.

“Why should I?” Clark muttered.

“Because you still care about her…………You still love her.” Chloe said as Clark stopped stacking the hay. He turned to Chloe.

“No, I don’t.” Clark walked away as Chloe stared on, not knowing what to say. When Clark was finally gone, Chloe muttered to herself.

“You would…..If you knew the truth.” Chloe sighed.

*The previous night*

Lana awoke in the puddle. “Ugh.” She said as she was covered in mud and dirt. She walked up into the road and saw a truck coming. It looked like the Kent’s truck. The truck stopped in front of Lana. Martha emerged from the truck.

“Lana? Is that you?” She asked.

“YES!” Lana shouted and Martha walked up to Lana.

“Are you alright?” Martha questioned as she checked Lana.

“I’m fine, my car just got stuck in a mud puddle.” Lana explained.

“Ok, well, why don’t you come back to the farm with me. You can stay the night.” Martha offered as Lana looked confused.

“Oook.” She agreed and Martha helped her into the truck.

“There should be a blanket in back. Wrap it around yourself dear.” Martha instructed her. Lana did so, then Martha began the drive back to the farm. The drive back was silent as Lana looked a confused at how nice Martha was being to her, considering what had happened.

“Mrs. Kent, I can’t apologize to you enough about what happened with me and Clark. I just need you to know that I had to do it. I can’t really explain it.” Lana confessed as now Martha was confused.

“What did you do? You have me a little confused.” Martha laughed a little.

“You don’t know what I did?” Lana was now even more confused than before.

“I’m afraid not.” Martha answered.

“Mrs. Kent, I know what I did was wrong, but please don’t patronize me like this.” Lana pleaded.

“I think you need a goodnight rest. If you still want to talk in the morning, then we came, but for now. I think you need some sleep.” Martha smiled warmly as they pulled into the Kent farm as Lana stared on.
