I have been asked to post some fan fictions here. I have my own board and could simply provide links to the stories that would open a separate window with the file in it. But, I am told that that would divert people from here so I tried to oblige by posting here. I quickly remembered why I don't. Here's the problem:

My stories are complete before I post them. The word limit means that I must break the story into small pieces to post it, but if I post all the pieces one after the other, they join together. This may seem like a good thing, but what happens is this: When I find a typo and go to edit it, the post is too long when the edits are done. For example, the musical is 5 times bigger than I am allowed to post, but when I post the parts, they join together. Then when I go back and edit then hit submit, I get the error message that the post is 5 times longer than it is allowed to be -- break it up. So I have to repost the entire story again every time I make a correction. The only way I can think to get around this is to get 2 screen names and alternate between the 2 as I post consecutive parts of the story.

Is there a better way around this problem?

You could get a buffer, who would post inbetween your posts, then they delete their posts and all that's left is the story. Or you could just wait an hour or so between postings.

That means that it would take me five hours to post a story ... or I woiuld have to find a friend. Hmmmm.

I wonder why the feature is there in the first place? Maybe it reduces spamming by taking away the post count incentive. The thing is, if I wanted to edit the post above, I would make that choice rather that post another reply.

The bottom line is that these boards aren't really set up for fiction. Mine isn't either, but the individual posts can be 5 times longer that these message boards allow.

My friend Global Budd didn't know this was an issue in advance so his stories are merged into big pieces that he can't edit. If he breaks up an earlier chapter now, one of the pieces will end up out of order at the end of the stories. The same problem happens if an edit throws you over the word limit. It causes a chain reaction that just makes more work for someone trying to post a story and keep it sensical.

I just tried to make a second screen name to serve as my buffer so that I could alternate between the screen names. I got the message that 2 names are not allowed per e-mail address. I applaud this in that anoher board that I visit have people who have 60 screen names. The drawback is that multiple membrs of a family can't have their own names unless each has their own e-mail address. I guess most people do these days. I have at least 3 e-mail addresses available to me, so I could get around the issue, but I don't want to do things here that the administration obviously doesn't want done.

I posted a story anyway and it had to be chopped into 12 parts to post it. If I find even a single edit to make later, it will have to be posted again. I can not involve a second person in posting a story and will not spend 11 plus hours to post a story. I will live with the limitations, but it will keep me from posting many stories here.

If there is anything you can do programming wize to fix this problem, please let me know.

Thank You.

Thanks Jellie. I guess I can PM you the next time I decide to post something and we could altrnate. I used to do a thing where I posted the words "place holder" in a number of consecutive posts so that I could edit them as each part of the story was complete and keep the story together before any feed back was posted. I could pobably do the same with you so that I wouldn't occupy much of your time -- just post 15 place holders then let you go on your way. I just hate involving anyone else. It's kind of hard to coordinate.

Thanks for the offer. I may take you up on it depending upon how well my fiction is received here!
