I did notice on amazon.com that Serenity is the number one spot :D, and the Firefly boxset is in the top ten. Woohoo!!!

I sure will, and Joss is doing the commentary. I'll try to have it done by after xmas. Just so swap right now with xmas activity lol.
At www.ign.com Serenity was voted the Best Sci-Fi film of the year :D.

It's The Best film ever imo.

Yup. That's what it says on the special features. Even without the other cast members I always enjoyed Joss's commentary. It's not ego-maniac at all. Plus he is so informative when he talks.
I agree. It's one of my favorite films of all time.

lol, I'd love to have the movie, I'd watch it so much for about a month then not watch it for another 6 lol. I did that with harry potter & the philsopher's stone, I watched it every day for a month and a half then waited anoter 6 before watching it again lmao

12-21-2005, 06:46 PM
My dad does that with HP. Instead he just moves around the various movies since we have all three.
Right now I'm just finishing Lois & Clark S1 lol. Friday I can't wait to see it :D.
Did you find your lower prices Alex?
Yay!!!! It's finally in my hot little hands. Now I can pop in my little DVD and lust over "Sean the Bod" any time I want to. :p
Yes, yes "I aim to misbehave." :p ;)
But seriously, besides the fine end scene between Kaylee and Simon :D The entire movie is awesome and the extras are so great, too. Joss is the best, and Nathan is freaking hilarious.

I watched that awhile back when my borther bought it. I'm watching Firefly right now :D Just finished Ariel yesterday :D.
Yep. $16.98 w/o shipping, I'll buy it when I buy VM season 1 too save on shipping and custom charges.

I loved "Ariel", and to see the inner planets society. So Metropolis like, and what a beautiful sets in that one. Oh, that's the one with the Blue Sun Company where they made those guys bleed from their eyes and such. They so scared me :(.
See, in the movie we never got to the Blue Sun Company. The bounty hunter we discovered came from The Alliance. So if there is a sequel due to dvd sales the Blue Sun Company could be the next Big Bad.
TMLS' BROTHER
12-21-2005, 07:04 PM
Yeah, I loved seeing so BSC fellows.
Yes we do! And hopefully some more River kicking ass scenes!
Summers
12-21-2005, 07:09 PM
Me too. One of the BSC was on Buffy/Angel :D.
Oh yea. I think her weapon she used against the Reavers looked like Buffy's HUNGA MUNGA weapon in "Anne". You know when she went to that hell dimension.

Yea, he played one of the operatives who was after Faith when Buffy and Faith switched bodies in the two parter "This Year's Girl/Who Are You?" and he appeared again in "Santuary". He was the guy who was getting bald with black hair.
Here is the picture of Buffy's HUNGA MUNGA.
http://img455.imageshack.us/img455/1117/83133jl.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
River and Buffy's weapon are different in style, but they are used in the same manner and usage. Joss always loved the hunga munga, and knowing he designed many of the weapons on his all three shows I wonder if he designed River as well.
TMLS' BROTHER
12-21-2005, 07:26 PM
The first thing rings a bell.
Ah yes know I remember, it's in the titles isn't it?
He probably did if he designed on the 3 shows.
Summers
12-21-2005, 07:30 PM
Title?
At times he has drawings of the weapons he wants, and his employees have found some of them. Buffy's weapon just actually was made that year without Joss knowing. So they were just able to buy it. River's maybe hand made like the slayer scythe was.
TMLS' BROTHER
12-21-2005, 07:31 PM
You know the start up where you see everyone and you hear the nerf herder song. I remember seeing that in one seasons titles, I think.
I see... I thought that Slayer Scuthe would've been, I mean it was such a weird design, still kicked ass though,
Summers
12-21-2005, 07:37 PM
Oh the main credits d'oh. I should've know that . Yea, the close-up shot of Buffy at the end.
It was. It has the scythe itself (in pretty red), the red jewel, and stake. It was just so unique and cool lookin'. Too bad it cost $200 bucks to buy it now :(.
On weapons beside Reaver's hunga munga. I really like Mal's gun. It's so slender in length. How about you Alex?
TMLS' BROTHER
12-21-2005, 07:39 PM
Yeah thats what I was talking about.
Yeah it was really nice. Ouch thats some serious cash.
I like Mal's gun too, I prefer Jayne's gun though, I forget it's name, damn!
Also I liked Mr. Pointy (I think thats what Buffy called it) and Gun's axe thing.
Summers
12-21-2005, 07:42 PM
The browncoat costs more. The last time I saw it was $400 .
Oh.......hmmmmm....I thinking it's Vera? I liked Inara's small Princess Leia gun too lol.
Yea, Mr. Pointy (which she started calling after Kendra did). Gunn's axe was cool. I liked those holsters for the stakes on your wrists. Buffy and Angel would used those at times.
TMLS' BROTHER
12-21-2005, 07:46 PM
 Wow, thats too much for a coat imo.
Yes! I think thats it! I keep remembering that scene in "Our Mrs. Reynolds" where Jayne offers the Cap Vera. I don't remember that, was that in the movie?
Yes I liked those too. They were really cool the first time I saw them.
Summers
12-21-2005, 09:23 PM
That I agree. Weapons in store like swords and such do cost that much, and if they are based on a tv or movie. But 400 bucks no way lol.

For me twenty bucks items I constantly buy. I mean it's just chump change to me.
To me special features shouldn't make a dvd. It's the movie. The experience of a movie. To this day I have yet crack open the special features of Batman Begins. To me special features are just bonuses, but the juicy goodness is the movie itself. Frankly, I think we are very lucky to have this type of merchanise available to us. People back in the day could only watch the movie in the theatre and that was the last time they saw it.
There are still movies I still can't find on dvd, or video that I adored watching with my family such as Cary Grant's The Easy Way or also known as Room For One More. It's just special features. It's no biggie to me.

I agree that the movie is the important part, but I've always enjoyed watching the special features, so those are still important to me. If I had a choice between the regular DVD and a "Special 2-Disc" one (like many of them out there,) I'd go with the latter.
BTW, I saw the movie today, and I really liked it. The special effects were really great, as well as the story too. Also, what I like about Joss Whedon's shows/movies it that one second I'm all excited in this huge action sequence, then I'm about the cry, and then I'm laughing.
9/10

Serenity was just classic Joss Whedon writing. I mean that's just how his shows work, and I loved that it transcended in his movie.
I find also amazing those special effects they had was on a really small budge of 45 million dollars .
cayayofm
12-27-2005, 08:33 PM
I guess you are right Summers, the important thing is the movie, I completly agree, is just that we are so used to have DVD's with special fetures.
I found this:
Top 10 Hollywood Mainstream Movies on DVD in 2005 - Serenity is #1
1. Serenity Although there were several bright spots in 2005, I still remain a little disappointed in the overall mainstream film output of the year. I sat down to watch "Serenity" a few days before writing this list, and despite not being familiar with the backstory (shown in the cancelled TV series "Firefly"), I was bowled over by the film, which seemed more fresh and exciting than the majority of mainstream offerings in recent memory. Despite being done on a budget of $40m (fairly small in this age of $150-200m films), the film looks great and provides a wonderful balance of story, character, humor and thrills. It’s a prime example of how, on a tight budget, filmmakers can still make a film with satisfactory effects used to back up a good story instead of the other way around. The DVD provides superb video quality, a punchy, dynamic Dolby Digital soundtrack and a nice collection of supplements that, while not quite as in-depth as I’d like, is still enjoyable to browse through. I can’t wait to pick up "Firefly" and go back to the beginning with these characters.

UK magazine FilmFocus declare Serenity #1 film of the year in their 25 favourite flicks
Serenity
The little movie that could have and should have. We fussed and fretted over whether we could justify giving this the number one spot since our gushing inspired only a handful of those hard-to-please general cinemagoers to make the trip, but we reasoned it in the end with one simple thought: No other film this year managed to wholeheartedly live up to the weight of simply immense expectation quite like Serenity and then go and set the bar even higher.

"Serenity" Movie is #1 in Bbc.co.uk 10 Films of the Year for 2005
1. Perched on top of the heap we call 2005, Serenity.
It was far from the biggest hit of the year but the rabid fanbase which helped get Joss Whedon’s cancelled sci-fi series onto the big screen has now handed it the biggest accolade in modern cinema: the title of Film 2005 Film of the Year. Rachel Formby calls it, ’A labour of love filled with strong, superbly written characters, humour, emotion and cool effects’. Juliet Richards in Stanstead claims it ’brilliantly blended comedy, action, drama, horror and romance’, adding that ’the only negative point I can think of is that it wasn’t out for long enough so I only got to see it five times on the big screen’. That’s the sort of passion we like to see.

The only numbers I saw recently were for video rentals :\.
Yeah... a friend of mine and I did what we felt to be a fairly extensive search of the internet for DVD sales numbers, but couldn't find anything. Going in, I thought it would be as easy to find as box office numbers. I was rather wrong. :\
I've found various sites posting certain sales information, but nothing that posts totals or units sold to date.

That's what I'm getting as well. I'm not getting anything about totals/units sold to date. Wasn't expecting to see the video rentals stats either lol.
I'm constantly checking www.slayerverse.com and another Buffy site. Joss hasn't mentioned the numbers..........yet.

Woopsie Daisy! I didn't realize until too late that there is a "Firefly" marathon on today on the SCI-Fi channel today before new episodes of the Stargates and Battlestar premere!
In my area there is about one episode and a half before the marathon is over! If you don't have it on DVD, you should go check it out!

Serenity Might Fly Again?
Loni Peristere, visual-effects supervisor for the SF movie Serenity, told SCI FI Wire that there's hope for future flights of the cast and crew of the movie, which just came out on DVD. Director Joss Whedon—who also created the canceled Fox TV show Firefly, on which the movie is based—expected that the movie might draw the low numbers it did in its theatrical release, Peristere said in an interview. But he added that the movie's sales on DVD, which came out on Dec. 20, are running neck-and-neck with the hit comedy Wedding Crashers, which bodes well for a possible Serenity sequel.
"We kind of expected this from our audience," Peristere said. "We did so well on [Amazon.com] with the Firefly box set and the performance of that helped us get the movie made. We wish the audience would get up and go to the theater, but it shows that they like to keep coming back and revisiting the world Joss created." Serenity made $25 million at the domestic box office after it was released Sept. 30.
Whedon and his crew are waiting to see how well the DVD numbers go before proceeding with a Serenity sequel, Peristere said. "We really hope to return to this work," he said. "We love the characters. It's fun storytelling, and we all love using our talents. ... It all depends on Joss. He's not giving up on the characters. He had incredible writers who had a million stories to tell, and we're all just hanging out and seeing what the world has to give us, and given the opportunity we'll make more."
In the meantime, fans of both show and movie can enjoy the DVD's various extras, which include an Easter egg: a featurette about the making of the Fruity Oaty Bar commercial that appears in the film. "In the main menu, if you play around with the buttons you'll find a featurette of the Fruity Oaty Bar," Peristere revealed. (From the main menu highlight "play," then press left, which will highlight a marker on the right side of the menu; press enter to see the featurette.) "It's all a lot of fun," he said.

Plus the Wedding Crashers was one of the biggest successes in theatres last year. It was a comedy-giant, and now it's neck and neck with our Serenity. Oh, that is a very good sign.

Interesting... in a recent EW article, which interviewed Joss, they said it was very unlikely that there would be a sequel and Joss said he was fine with that because he was happy with the closure "Serenity" put on the "Firefly" story. I'll have to dig the magazine out to give you the exact wording... but I read it recently. It also mentioned the possibility of the Spike movies... talking as if they were a done deal... and were planned to be released (I think) straight to DVD. Really need to recheck the magazine.

That's the same article a couple of weeks ago that Joss said wrote him out of context. He went on the Net and posted the next day after it's release, and said EW wrote him out of context and is no where near accurate. EW did a negative, inaccurate slant on it.

I agree. I don't know what was up with the name at all :\.
It was a great epic adventure flick, and Joss was hailed by critics and fans all over the world.
Unfortunately, the movie has yet to make back its budget, thus no sequel...
http://www.slashfilm.com/article.php/20061003serenity-sequel
Joss Whedon fanboys can finally give up all hope, the writer/director has finally confirmed what I've said all along: There will never be a Serenity sequel. Serenity was a 2005 science fiction western film set in the universe of the cancelled Fox television series Firefly. Including it's home video release, Serenity has still yet to come close to earning back it's $39 million budget. "There's no sequel, no secret project regarding Serenity or somesuch and I'm not even sure how anyone thought there was talk there," wrote Whedon. "So let's put that to bed and smother it with a pillow."
BOO
The way FOX sliced and diced the pilot to the original TV show, then preempted it for weeks on end because of baseball playoffs, it should not have been a surprise to anyone that it didn't find an audience.
Someone at Universal pictures agreed and went to great lengths to secure the rights; including signing off that regardless of its success, it would not be allowed on TV, in any incarnation, for at least 10 years.
Gave it a big budget... then complete ****ed it in the ass again!
This movie was originally slated for a May release, as it was to usher in the summer blockbusters, and many people were chopping at the bit for a "Summer" movie. It would have easily done 20 million in its opening week, and, of course, tappered off as the summer ran its course, but a big opening weekend would have secured at least a break even (combined with eventual DVD sales).
But they suddenly moved it to a Fall release.
Unless someone is a god damn moron, you know Fall is a dumping ground for crap and the transition period between Summer movie and Oscar contender; late-August to early-October. No one goes to the movies during that time - but that's where they decided to release it, and, yet again, doom it to failure before it even got a chance.
The worst past about this entire ordeal was that Serenity was good, not just fanboy good, but really good, and it worked on every level a movie should work, but no one gave it a chance.
Oh, and there is Done the Impossible (http://www.donetheimpossible.com/), a documentary on Serenity, that's worth watching.

Joss replied to the rumors that a sequel to Serenity will never happen... basically stating that the rumor is false and nothing has been decided.
Holy Mother of Oats! I turn my back for five minutes (that's how long it takes to admire my lovely back) and the interweb goes banoonoos! Isn't there any ACTUAL news to get wrong? Sorry about all this; it might be best if I just stay off the computer for a while. Or just glut the feed with wild conjecture. Hmm, let's see... I'm me, so... let's glut! Here are some ABSOLUTELY TRUE statements of factiness. Gentlemen, start your websites.
1) Wonder Woman has finally been cast. To no one's surprise, we eschewed all those tired movie and TV personalities and cast the interweb star "Lonelygirl", or whatever her actual name is. Congratulations, whomever!
2) I've got a thirteen episode commitment from the CW, so get ready for the long-awaited "Primative and Cheese Man". She's the first Slayer, he's a meaningless hallucination -- can they put aside their differences long enough to fight crime?
3) "CLEM!" Broadway. The number where he eats Rum Tum Tuggle will make you laugh and cry and throw up in your mouth slightly.
4) I will absolutely, posatively never ever do any kind of Serenity sequel or spinoff unless a studio asks me. Politely. Or meanly, that's cool too.
5) Warren Ellis's beard has a foyer. It's quite nice: shaker furniture, and a cute ceramic umbrella stand.
6) Kelly MacDonald and Gong Li have got to stop fighting over me 'cause who are they embarrassing? Themselves, that's all.
7) I'm tired of me.
Right. Cue chaos. And yes, number seven is more or less true. But my little britjaunt is through (Alexis rocked "All My Sons") and I'm grindstone bound, so I won't be feeding any more rumorsites for a while. There's only one way to stop all this insanity, and that's to produce some actual work for people to write about. So I'll do that.
Here's a thing: when "Firefly" was cancelled, my heart got broke. Sounds a bit much, but it changed me. Not even "Serenity" could patch that wound. I'm wearier, warier -- after all those years as a movie writer, you'd think I'd be prepared for another lesson on my unimportance in the scheme of things, but I wasn't. There are two very separate worlds: the marketplace, and the bustling bazaar that is my brain. The brain place is crowded with goods, ideas, sequels, spinoffs, animated versions, miniseries, radio dramas -- this is just the used goods. All the new wares are in there as well and it's deafening. Once I create a verse I never let go of it. And figuring out how much of my energy should be devoted to reawakening the projects you all love with the actors and characters I all love, and how much should be forging ahead and creating entirely new works (which you are contractually obligated to love) is exhausting. More than you know. You know the horse caught bwtween two pools of water? Add seven pools, and make the horse wicked A.D.D. The other world, the marketplace, I don't even begin to understand or predict. All these rumor of projects or the death of projects... When the two worlds align and something actually happens, whatever it is, you guys know I'll be on this site as soon as I'm allowed to be. And I'll be very very clear. There is no news. Not never, just now. I'm off to lunch with Lonelygirl.
Your Scribe, -j.

This movie got me into the Firefly universe (and the Whedenverse actually, I've never seen an episode of Buffy).
I've since become obsessed, watched the whole thing at least twice, and bought Firefly for my family.
Best. Show. Ever. I'm glad this movie got me into it (I kinda wanted to see the show when it was actually on, but honestly the Fox previews were nothing special).
