Summers
08-19-2005, 06:24 PM
We dont know for what the secret is...yet . That's one of the reasons the movie is going to discuss. There is speculation regarding River's secret. The secret is theorized by the characters in the series finale "Objects in Space".
If I knew I would have put in spoiler tags lol, but its all pure speculation.

Awww, now I wish I could watch all of Firefly right now! I wanna speculate :( !!!! I know I am going to go out and buy the dvds soon, but I am thinking after S7 Buffy, S4 SV and S3 Roswell (for my cuz). Then I can get Firefly :D Honestly I have a job and could get them right now, but I seem to have become this cheapo who doesn't want to spend money . I guess it's different when it's your own money you are trying to spend

Yea, it is different when its your money. I still have the same dilmena to the extent I dont buy any dvds/cds from Jan. to May just so I can buy things later on. Oh, the temptation is tough .
Well, the characters theorize about River's secret in the finale, but there are other episodes that hint towards it. So you can start speculating very soon :).

I finally saw the trailer in the movie theatre... after my heart-wrenching diappointment of not seeing it before Batman Begins. It was great! They showed alot of comedic moments... and some action. But the trailer has me doing a lot of questioning... the trailer really really focuses on Mal, River & Jayne. Everyone else only had maybe one solo shot... except for Kaylee who was noticably excluded from the trailer... with the exception of her in one ensemble shot. So now I'm wondering whether the trailer is accurate in the focus of the movie or whether the trailer is just focused on what they think will sell.
On a plus side the outside of my movie theatre was plastered (when I say plastered... I mean over a hundred) with Serenity posters. Me & my sister took pictures in front of them... I'll post them later... probably on my blog.

In the second trailer they did a solo shot on Kaylee :D. It could be both. Shows the cool stuff of the Firefly universe, and show the main focus is River, Mal, and her secret. Knowing Joss there is always a lot more juicy things that the trailer doesnt show :D. But then you saw part of it in the editing room lol.
Great. Can't wait to see them :).

I spoiled myself for the movie. I'm such a spoiler whore I couldn't resist. Still panting to see it. Keep not being able to make the preview screenings, but people I know who have seen it have loved it. Some hostile reviews, but I'll be suspending judgement til I see it obviously.
I didn't like Firefly quite as much as Buffy. Partly because it didn't get a chance to get into its stride, but also because it had a bit more macho to it. Adore Jayne mind you - he's good parody macho. I hope he gets a new hat in the film. His hats rock.

Forgot to tell you all... Sunday night I met the scenic art director in charge of making the ship in both the pilot for Firefly and the movie of Serenity. I told him he was my hero and that if he ever needed me to accompany him to meet Joss or to see a preview of Serenity... I wouldn't mind the burden. I think I sufficiently embarrassed the poor english guy... but that's okay, he's dating one of my friends, who is even more outgoing and vocal then I am... and that is saying a lot.

Fox didn't think it was drawing in an audience in the Friday night slot they aired it in. The other issues laid in the fact that they aired it out of order and pulled it from the time slot constantly.

Pretty much sums it up. I actually caught the Pilot and the last episode right as they aired. I was hooked and it was of course the final showing. I watched and waited for the DVD set and finally got it. Loved the series from then on out.
Joss has already announced a sequel, but let's just hope he gets to make fun of FOX when he comes down to getting a sequel or sequels. I'm so glad Universal (one of my all time favorite studios!!!!) was willing to pick it up.

Yea, the Fox did not handle Firefly at all. It was mostly by their own doing. They shot themselves in the foot. As the saying goes "when one door closes another one opens'....thus the new movie. Which Joss Whedon already laid out for sequel. Joss will have his revenge muahaha.
There is a Firefly thread in the General TV forum.

Like he made fun of the WB executives by using Hamilton and W&H in Angel S5 .

I can still remember the awkard teaser trailer for the show, when FOX first announced it. It didn't even really have the feel of the show...the clips were so scattered and of course, it was SERENITY, PART 1 and 2 bu tas everyone knows "Episode 3" aired first.

Ugh, I just remember bits and pieces lol. Um, Derek, RedPhoenix, Alex, and Yellowqueen is going to have to help fill in the blanks.
Oh, I think it was we would meet the Reavers early on in the movie, and they will be the reason they crash land on the planet. They are really the cataylsts of the events that unfold because on the planet Mal takes River to closes town. I think that's all we got from the trailers and promotional pictures. Was that the gist of it Derek?

Originally, in the teaser trailer we got a glimpse of a creature. Mel and I deduced that it was a Reaver, but taking things to the present, we believe it's a Reaver ship (this part of the theory is all Mel) forces Serenity to land.
There's a clip of the Reaver's chasing them on the ground that aired on Sci-Fi a while back.
That's how I remember it.

Yea, that's how I remember it. We just put everything together. It seems plausible lol. It would be cool if we were right in the order of the events :D.

Me too. He is more of a mystery than River is especially his connection to the Alliance. I think we have to remember that we may only get some since Joss is laying it out for the sequel as well. The second viewing of this movie I'm looking for foreshadowing :D.

Probably, but being Joss his weapons he uses for his characters are sometimes special:
-Troll's hammer
-Slayer Scythe
-Hunga Munga
-the swords from "Becoming"
I mean he really takes special care in designing them, so it has to mean something to at least River's character.
I should've mentioned this last night. If Serenity makes $40 million dollars nationwide, and $80 million worldwide we are going to get the sequel Joss already laid out. That's the most detailed news I heard from the recent Dragon-Con reports.
Hopefully there will be an actual article that confirms these numbers even more.

I have no doubt it will with the advertisement Universal has put forth for it and they've covered most if not all their bases.
Yeek! I'm *so* excited I just have to share this with Firefly fans. Yeep! I just got back from Dragon Con in Atlanta, and I got to meet Adam, Morena, Jewel, and Ron. Yay!!! :D I wore the Shindig dress of Kaylee's and would you believe my luck--I actually sort of ran into Jewel, Morena and Ron up in the bar and you should've seen the look on her face. She was like in shock that someone was dressed up as her--it was hilarious. Morena was like "I got to get a pic of this" and she snapped a pic of me and Jewel with her own camera--and my sneaky little friend snapped one for me! Yay! (I'll post it as soon as she sends it to me) Yeep!!! She also told me my dress looked just like the real one which was the biggest compliment ever. Yay!!! This con was a total blast--especially for me, a Firefly fan.
Here's a couple of pics--I promise to post more when I get them. :D

Fan Fest at Universal Studios Theme Park - September 9th, 2005 - We just got word that on Saturday September 24th (two days after the red carpet premiere), Universal will be hosting a Serenity Fan Fest at Universal Studios Theme Park. “Joss and & members of the cast are doing a Q&A, meet & greet/signing and we’ll be screening something (clips, bloopers…not sure exactly) at the beginning of the Q&A. There will be a special $15 off entry in to the park coupon for the event..”
Universal has also posted information on more free Serenity press screenings in NY and LA. Please show up to these and show your enthusiasm for the movie. We want those reviewers to be blown away by our energy. Los Angeles
Date & Time: Tuesday, September 13th, 7:00 pm
Location: Mann's Chinese Theater, Hollywood and Highland, Los Angeles
Date & Time: Friday, September 16th, 7:30 pm
Location: AMC Century City Theatre, 10250 Santa Monica Blvd., Century City
For this screening ONLY - please RSVP to 818-777-0773
Red Carpet Premiere Shindig - September 9th, 2005 - The SoCal Browncoats are throwing a Big Damn Movie “Browncoats Only Shindig” at the Hard Rock Cafe overlooking the Red Carpet Premiere of Serenity. The Shindig starts at 5:30pm PST on September 22. See you all there!
I'm almost considering going to the Mann's screening... but to be honest the chances of me getting a ticket unless I show up at 6am are unlikely... and I have class. SERENITY -- THE COMIC -- A REVIEW -- ((SPOILER FREE))
I suppose if anything anybody could treat this chapter of Firefly as simply filler into between episodes or in this case build-up for the film, SERENITY, itself, but in its essence it is something far more.
From the start, Joss Whedon and Brett Matthews, the creator and one of the writers on the show -- the Whedon Duo as I like to call them, sets us square in the middle of the action with Mal and his crew dealing with other ideals. Fans of the show will instantly click with the moment since it's pure Whedon, but the book excels at re-introducing the cast over the three issues. We meet everyone in their own environment and suffering through their ordeals and dealing with the situations at hand.
Whedon and Matthews continue to excell at their characterization. Once again for the fans of the show the character's are expanded on in a fashion that allows for new readers to come and enjoy, but respects the Browncoat's out there.
The artwork by Will Conrad is stunning. Some of the best artwork I've seen come out of Dark Horse comics in some time, in fact, it was realistic enough and dead on the character's that I had no issue with buying into the character's again. (Like I had to.)
Also of note, the character's get individual covers - we'll get all of them in the upcoming Trade Paperback/Graphic Novel.
As for the bad, it feels too short at times. Three issues just isn't enough to cover all these characters but Whedon and Matthews understand that, but everybody gets equal consideration just like on the show.
There are some surprising dileemas brought in and there are short-lived characters, but I think it more than makes up for it since this is after all the build up for the movie.
4/5

*Little Known Fact* SERENITY was originally written (the comic book) for a Direct to DVD release before the film, but Universal didn't want that to happen so Joss and Brett went over to Dark Horse and turned the project into a comic book. And the rest is Browncoat history!

Given that its a positive review to get you more excited, than I'm more excited :D.
I'm joining the club one way or another.

Couldn't find them but found the Serenity magazine and a STARLOG with Serenity on the cover. Let us just say I know a secret.

Um, well Ferd said how spoilery they are . Your not the only one that knows a secret. Anyone that reads it knows it, or know much more than they did lol.

I know. It's two for two, but I will say the Reavers look great!

I'm just giddy our Reaver theory is showing some light :).

Yeah, and they look disguistingly great! Truly the way they described them in the episodes.

Just knowing they are eat human flesh, and they do not have any logical reasoning. Scares the crap out of me.

Just wait until you see them. If you go into the offical site, you get a brief glance at them in the shadows, but you truly can't make out what they are.

I saw them in the trailer :D.

A brief glimpse you mean :)
Wait until you see them up close. Gives new meaning to the word horror.

No, the brief glimpse was enough for me. Looking at the screencap will do that to you. I have a pretty good view of the Reavers look like. IMO They used early-man as a foundation to the make-up surrounding how they look.

Had no idea about that, but I can see that now.

UPDATE - my friend called me tonight and left a message for me. She went to the LA premiere of Serenity this week with her boyfriend (aka the set designer in charge of building the ship for the pilot of FIREFLY and the movie SERENITY... the same one I teased and called God last week). She said she saw Joss.... have to talk to her to get the confirmation that she actually met & talked to him... how jealous am I... especially since she really doesn't know the Whedon shows. And she saw the movie... which she described as great and told me I'd love it. I'll talk to her later and give you any good details about the premiere... if there are any!!!

It doesnt get ranked till its opens in all theaters, but yeah, if the 8.6 holds, the movie will be in top 25 movies of all time... thats crazy. =) I got most of my friends hooked on Firefly, so they'll all be rating it 10

Wow, that's a high ranking for imdb . All we need is 40 million too, and we get a sequel :D. I'm going twice. Once with my sisters(who are so hooked on this show they read the Serenity magazine top to bottom), and second time with my friends.

No problem, I usually put reviews on my website, and even if I do put it on here then it'd be as spoiler free as possible - I generally don't spoil in reviews unless there's no way around it and it won't matter.
Tonight's the night! :D

I'm reading the novel right now and I'm staying silent as well. All I can say is we're in for a serious treat.
No, just can see why no-one's saying anything.
Not too sure how much people who haven't seen it will enjoy it though.
