Chapter 7:

His eyes caught her face, she hair was little longer than he remember it, but she looked relatively the same way as she did when she left.

"Lana." That was the only word he could manage out of his mouth. So many thoughts going through his head, all those feelings he had for her coming back to him.

"I was hoping we could go outside and talk, Clark." He looked so different to her. He wore these glasses, his hair was combed and he wore a suit. Lana kind of felt like she was in a twlight zone or something.

"Sure." He put on a fake smile and went outside. It wasn't like he wasn't happy to see her, he was. It's just that all the pain he tried to put in his past came back to him and he couldn't take the pain.

*They walk outside and stop to sit on a bench next to the entrance of the Daily Planet.*

They turn and stared at each other for what seemed like an eternity. Searching each other's eyes, wondering what to say or how to say it.

"I'm really sorry about your dad Clark, I know how much he meant to you." Lana says sympatheticly.

"He did, he was the strongest person I've ever know and the best father I could have ever asked for. I just wish I could have been there for him." Clark said almost in a sob.

"I know you would have been there for him, if you could have been." Lana says wondering how she should comfort him.

"Thanks Lana, so how about you and Pete." Lana was caught off-guard by this, she didn't think he'd ask about Pete.

"Yeah, we're married. I was waiting for someone, but they never came....So i gave in and married Pete."

Clark was now taken off-guard and a little angry. "What are you talking about Lana?"

Lana put her down, "I'm talking about......I was waiting for you."

Clark got up, "But that didn't stop you from leaving, did it?" Clark said in an angry tone.

Lana got up, right in face. "If you loved me, then why did you let me leave? You just stood there and let me walk out of your life. You didn't even try to stop me."

They both look away from each, each hurting the other with what they said. Not wanting to look at the pain in each other's eyes.

Lana started again, "I thought you were gone Clark. I thought this was another part of Clark Kent's secrets. What I said in the letter i wrote to you was true." Clark is still looking away in pain. "I didn't think you could trusted me, so I left."

Clark was now hurting more than ever after hearing those words at her words. Should he tell her why he was gone? Would she even believe him?

"What's in the past should stay in the past." Clark said, almost coldly. "You have a husband now, I have a new life. We should just both move on."

Lana was the one now who had to look away at his words. Why did he just push her out of his life again?

"I have to get back to work." Clark said in a somber tone, then turned and walked away. As Clark walked away, a song could be heard, almost like it came from their heads and only they heard it.

Lana stood there staring in the direction of where Clark walked away. She didn't know if she should go after him or not. She didn't know if he wanted her to or if he even loved her anymore. She just put her face in her hands out of confusion and frustration.

*Lex and Pete's hotel room.*

"Do we have a plan of action yet?" Pete said anxiously.

"Our plan is simply Pete, destroy Clark or Superman or whatever he's calling himself."

"Yeah I know, but how? Run up to him and throw green kryponite rocks at him?" Pete grinned.

"No, we're going to hit him where it hurts the most. The people, we're going to launch nuclear weapons." Lex said with satistfaction.

"But we are going to kill him?" Pete asked.

"Off course." Lex replied quickly. "Now don't worry about it and spend some time when your wife. Pete lefted.

Lex sat near the window and smiled.

Chapter 8:

*That night at Lois's apartment.*

"Okay, everything was to be perfect." She fixes the napkins and the silverware for about the tenth time. Looks in the mirror for about the hundredth time. She had on a shot red dress, with no back and her hair in a pony tail.

"Is he always late, it's already 8." Seconds after she said that, he flew in.

"Am I late?" He said with a little grin.

She grinned back, "You sure do know how to keep a lady waiting, don't you?"

"I do my best." He said in a sly voice.

"Well, i prepared dinner. So let's go eat." They both sit down, opposite for each other. Lois made spagetti and meatballs. "I hope you like it." She said optimisticly.

He takes a couple bits, "It's great." He said between bites. After a little while, they finish eating and head out to the porch.

"Beautiful night, isn't it?" Superman said watching Lois gave out into the stars.

"Yeah, it is. I use to enjoy watching the stars when I was in Smallville. I would stuck up into a friend of mine's loft and check them out when he wasn't there.*

Superman tried not to show his shock. "Who's this friend of yours?"

"His name is Clark Kent, I work with him at the Daily Planet. He's one of closest and best friends, i'd never tell him that though." She said with a smile laugh.

"Good friends are hard to come by, but do you have any romatic feelings toward him?" Superman quietly wondered.

"Toward Clark? No, besides I'm interested in someone else." She gave him a look, before taking a couple steps away from him.

Superman blushes, "So Lois, have you ever wondered what it's like to fly?"

Lois looked strangly at him, "Yeah, every time i come out here i wonder."

Superman smiled and swept her off her feet. "Well, here's your chance."

She looked wide eyed at him, "What are you doing?"

"Showing you what's like to fly, now hang on."

She gripped him tightly and they flew off. "Wow, i can see all of Metropolis. It's beautiful."

He smiles at her, as she gaves with wonder at all the sights. "And i get to do this every day."

"Lucky guy."

*Scene shifts to a bridge in Metropolis, where there is only car driving.*

"I should have said something different or done something different." Lana repeated to her as she drove on the bridge. Then alll of a sudden, the car started to slide, there was ice on the bridge and Lana's car went right into the bridge railing. The car is barely still on the bridge as Lana yells for help.

*Scene shifts back to Lois's apartment.*

"Thanks for the ride." Lois said happily.

"Anytime." They stared at each other. Then began to lean in, when Superman's superhearing kicked in.

help me, someone help me.

"I have to go Lois, someone's in danger." He Flies away as Lois looks disppointed, but also satisfyied.

Superman reaches the bridge and see's the car hanging over the bridge.

"Hold on." He still doesn't notice it's Lana as he picks on the car and places it on the bridge. Lana steps out.

"Thank you." He now see's her and eyes widened.

"Anytime Ma'am." He goes to leave, but she stops him.

"Wait, please come over here." He cautiously goes to her. She looks deeply into his eyes.

"Clark?"

Chapter 9:

"You must have me confused with someone else. My name is Superman." He said convincenly.

Lana look deep into his eyes and then placed her hand on his cheek. "I would know you any where Clark, please don't lie to me again." Lana forming tears in her eyes.

Superman tries to speak, "I....This....Not..I have to go...."

"NO, please, if you ever loved me, you wouldn't leave."

Superman stopped, his back turn towards her.

"All i ever wanted to do is know you." She said pleading with him in a low voice.

He turned around, he turn he couldn't just walk away from his, no matter how much it hurt.

"Okay, come with me." He swept her up in his arms, both staring deeply into each other eyes. "Hold on."

They arrived at Clark's apartment, moments later. Lana still staring at him. "Why don't you sit down." He said hesitantly.

She sat down, then began. "Why didn't you ever tell me?"

"There are many reasons why."

"Oh, because you couldn't trust me? Because you didn't love me enough?" She said almost angerly.

He looked straight into her eyes, "That would never be the reason, I loved you very much. I knew you would never betray me." Her heart almost broke at the fact she actually could believed that was his reason.

"Then why." She said as he turned from her and got up.

"Because it was too dangerous for you, because I thought it would change the way you felt about me."

"Nothing could or will ever change the way I feel about you. And how could it be dangerous for me to know." Lana said very sincerely.

Clark smiled at her first sentence, "It would be dangerous, because some people will stop at nothing to expose me and they would hurt you to get to me. I could live with the fact that I put you in that kind of danger." Clark stuttered at the end.

She got up, "So you were protecting me? Just like you always do?" He nodded, "I'm sorry that I ever felt it was any other reason. It's just Lex messed with my head and then there were your nightmares, your disappearing acts. I had no idea what to think." She said almost sobbing.

He pulled her into his embrace, "It's okay, there was no way to know. I should have told you a long time ago." Clark said comforting her.

"You don't have to worry, I'll never tell anyone." Lana said reasuringly.

"I know you won't."

"So what do we do now?" Lana asked hesitantly.

Understanding what she means, "Lana, we have to put this in the past. You love Pete and you're married to him. It's obvious we put each other in the past."

He starts to walk away and then she grabs his arm, turning him around. "Clark look!" She pulls down her jacket, exposing her wrest that has the braclet Clark gave her on it.

Clark looks at her in shock, "You still have it?" He says in disbelief.

"I never took it off, not for a second. I always loved you and always will." Lana says with tears falling down her face.

He can't believe she kept it, "Never?"

"Not once." They looked deeply into each other's eyes.

He doesn't know what to say, "I love you too.....but"

"But what?" She asked anxiously.

"I might have feelings for someone else too, well, actually Superman might. I don't know, I'm just so confused right now."

"Confused about what?"

"Confused about for who I am and what I want. It's like Clark Kent is in love with Lana and Superman is in love with someone else." He said with his hand on his head.

"Oh, well, there's only one way to find out." She leans in and lightly kiss him. He then kisses her back, wrapping his hands around her waist. They kiss passionately thoughout the night.

ahhh I had taken a vacation from this story because I couldn't stand the Plana! I finally decided to read and catch up when I read that the Clana was finally coming back. I hope their make out session proves to Clark there is no one else for him but Lana. How could he even think there was something going on with him and Lois. I mean she just said right there that she had no romantic feelings for Clark. Besides Lois is an idiot she still doesn't know Clark is Superman and Lana recognized him right off!

Chapter 10:

*2 am in the morning, Clark's apartment.*

Clark and Lana finally break their kiss. "I have to go." She said not wanting to pull away.

"We still have to talk more Lana. There are things that I still haven't told you." Clark said as Lana began to walk away, then turned around.

"Umm Clark, I kind of need a ride." She winked at him.

"Oh yeah, buckle up." He picks her up into his arms and they fly to Lana's hotel, Lana's eyes never leaving Clark.

"Thank you." She kisses him the cheek.

"Anytime." He said smiling as they gaved into each other's eyes.

"I love you."

"I love you too." Clark said with happiness as Lana walks into the hotel. Then eventually opens the door to her hotel room.

"Little late, don't you think?" Lex said curiously.

"Were you waiting up for me?" Lana said awkwardly to him.

"No, I wish needed to finish some work. That's why I'm up, what's your excuse." Lex wondered.

Lana's eyes wondered for a second, "I had car trouble, that bridge is extremely icy."

"I see, is that the real reason?" Lex asked looking straight into her eyes.

"What do you mean? What other reason could there be?" Lana said staring back at him.

"I don't know, could it be you were spending time with newest superhero. I know how you have a fondness for the hero type, no?"

"Why would I want to spend time with a guy named Superman?" Lana questioned.

"Because we both know you know exactly who he really is, even if you can't admit to yourself."

"I don't know what you're talking about." Lana tried to walk away as Lex blocked his path.

"DON'T! Don't play games with me Lana. I know you know who he is and that you were with him tonight. It's coming right out of your eyes, so stop the act it gets tiresome. Lex said angrily.

"What I do is my business, not yours!" Lana snapped back and stormed past Lex.

"Just as I thought." Lex grinned.

*The Daily Planet, the next day.*

"I think I'm in love Chloe." Lois said cheerfully.

"In love?" Chloe said surprised.

"Yeah, he's like the perfect guy, which would explain why he isn't from around here." Lois said with a goofy smile.

Clark then strolled in, "Hey ladies." He said with a tired smile.

"You look tired. Up all night watching Brady Bunch reruns, Smallville? Lois said with a grin.

"Very funny Lois, I do enjoy your sense of humor........Sometimes." Clark grinned back. "So Lois, how was your big date with Superman?" Clark wondered.

"She's in love." Chloe replied as Clark's eyes almost shoot through his glasses.

"That's right Smallville." Lois said.

"Are you sure?" Clark asked sheepishly.

"Yes, I'm sure." Lois said looking at him strangly.

"It could be just a one night thing and rub off." Clark hoped.

"I doubt it and what's your problem? Why does it matter to you?" Lois questioned.

"No reason." Clark said taking about work to distract him.

"Well, I have to run another story. I'll see you two later, maybe when Clark is acting normal or at least normal for him." Lois smirked then left.

Chloe turned to Clark, "What's going on?".

"I saw Lana again last night."

Chapter 11:

"You saw Lana?" I'm guess from the nervous and almost goofy happy expersion on your face that it went well?" Chloe asked.

Clark smiled, "It went great, we stayed up kissing all night and told each other we loved each other."

Chloe rasied her eyebrows, "So, what exactly made Lois fall in love with you as Superman?"

"Well, before I saw Lana, me and Lois were having a really good date. We almost kissed, then i heard someone yelling and went to where i heard it. It was Lana and her car was falling off a bridge, so i saved it. Which is also the time she found out that I was Superman."

"How'd she figure that out?" Chloe wondered.

"I don't know, she just looked into my eyes and told me that she would know me any where."

"Yeah, well you don't hide your identity that good." Chloe grinned.

"I know." Clark said.

"So, back to the topic, what are you going to do?" Chloe asked concerned.

"No clue, I know that i'm in love with Lana, but I don't really know my feelings for Lois. We were getting so close, before we were interupted. I actually feel like i'm split into thes two people, one is Clark Kent and the other is Superman." He said placing his heads in his hands. Chloe giggles and Clark head shoots up. "What's so funny?" Clark asked annoyed.

"The irony." Chloe said still giggling.

"Whatever, anyways, I don't know what to do?"

"I guess the first thing you need to do is find out your feelings for Lois? Then, if you have those feelings for her, try and find out who you really are." Chloe said seriously.

"Who do you think I am Chloe?" He asked really wanting to know.

"Who do I think you are? I think you are both Clark Kent and Superman, but that they are different parts of you. Superman is the physical part of you, the hero in you, that believes in justice and everything to do with good." Chloe pasued. "I think Clark Kent is your heart and soul."

"Thanks Chloe."

"Anytime." Chloe gets up and walks away, leaving Clark with a lot to think about.

*Pete and Lana's hotel room.*

"Pete can we talk for a second?" Lana says to Pete as he's looking at some paperwork.

"Sure Lana, what is it?" He said smiling.

"I want a divorce." She said gulping.

"Why?" He's clearly hurt.

"Because I'm still in love with Clark."

"I see, so our marriage meant nothing to you?" He said angerily.

"It did, but i was never in love with you. I'm sorry, I just can't leave a lie anymore." She said sincerly.

"Okay, let's do it." He finally gave in.

"Thank you Pete, you're still a good friend." She kissed his cheek and then walked out. Pete gave a very nasty look in her direction.

*Lois apartment, later in the night.*

There's a knock at the door. "Who is it?" Lois asked.

"It's Superman." He said.

"Come in." She said happily. He opens the door and walks in. "So you decided to use the door this time, huh?"

"I thought it might be a little easier." He said.

"Okay, what's up?" She asked curiously.

"I wanted to talk to you about last night." He said seriously.

"I had a great time." She said smiling.

"So did I, I'm just not sure how I feel." He smiled back.

"Well, only one way to find out." She leaned in and kissed him, he kissed back.

Chapter 12:

They finally break the kiss after a while and stare deeply into each other eyes. "I think I'm in love with you." Lois said still in a gaze over the kiss.

Superman stares almost blankly into her eyes, more confused about who he is than ever and more importantly who he loves. "Lois I have feelings for you too, but it's not fair to you to lead you on, until I know for sure that my feelings for you are love.

"Is there someone else?" She asked almost tearing up.

"Yes and no, it's really hard to explain." He said getting frustrated.

"Just tell me the truth, i'm a big girl, I can handle it." She said pleading with him.

He stared deep into her eyes and then took a huge breath. "I'm not completely who you think I am."

Lois gave a confused look, "What do you mean?" She curiously asked.

"This is only a part of who I am. I have another identity or personality." Lois looked even more confused. "Superman is only my name when I'm saving people and wearing this suit. In the real world, my name is Clark Kent." He said taking a deep breath."

"Clark? As in the farmboy I've known for years now? You two are one in the same?"

"Yes, which would help explain all those times I came out of no where and saved the day."

"Wow, i never saw that one coming." She said turning away.

"Does that change the way you feel?" He asked half of him wanting to hear a no and the other half wanting to hear a yes.

"No." She said firmly, turning back to his eyes.

He puts on a half smile, "Good."

"Was that why you didn't know about your feelings for me? Because you didn't know if i'd accept you?"

"No, there's another reason for that." He asled thinking of Lana.

"Is it Lana?" She asked already knowing the answer.

"Yes." He said slowly.

She nods her head up and down. "That's what i thought."

"Lois, I just need time to figure this hold thing out." He said almost pleading.

"Ok." She said.

"I'll see you tomorrow." He said, then kissed her cheek and flew back to his apartment.

When Clark arrived back at his apartment, he found a familar face waiting for him.

"Well, look who's back in town." Lex said with a grin.

"What the hell do you want?" Clark said with angry face.

"To talk about the good old days Clark." Lex said with a grin still on his face.

"Oh, the good old days where you turn your back on me and tried to take Lana away from me." He said his eyes burning with anger.

"I didn't have to try very hard, did I?" Clark nods his head in disgust. "It must have killed you to see your former best friend marry the girl of your dreams." Lex mocked him.

"That's in the past." Clark shook it off.

"Yeah, I know, you and Lana are back to your loving ways. It's too bad she's married, with no way out."

"No way out?" Clark said with fear.

"That's right Clark, to file for a divorce you need two signatures, not one. Pete will never sign it and you'll be kissing a married woman. I wonder how the public would feel about Superman committing adultery."

"I won't allow that to happen." Clark said sternly.

"I warn you, to stay out of my way." Lex said staring sharply at Clark.

"And I warn you, when you cross the line i'll be there waiting." Clark said staring back at Lex. Then Lex slowly walked out of Clark's apartment, leaving Clark with a lot to think about .

Chapter 13:

There he was, Clark Kent or was it Superman? That's the questioning he had been asking himself all night. He was unable to sleep because of it, who was he? That's a question not had been fighting with the entire night, but also his entire life. When he was a kid he couldn't understand why he was so different. He asked his mom everyday, "Mommy, why am i different? Why aren't I like the other kids?" She would reply, "Because you're special Clark, you're my special little boy." He would accept that answer for a long time, until he was 14. That's when he found out, he wasn't from earth, that he was an alien. He spent four years trying to figure out who he is and even though he came up with some answers, he could never really answer that question. Now that he's all grown up, he doesn't truly know the answer. Is he Clark Kent or Superman? When he's doing his job, talking to his friends, he feels like Clark Kent. Then there's the times where he's just saving people and flying around Metropolis, where he feels like he's just Superman. Superman is the man of justice, he fights for it, he does whatever he can to do the right thing and he loves Lois Lane. Clark Kent is everything that Clark feels, the emtions that run through, everything his parents taught him and Clark loves Lana Lang. Eventually he would give up and fall to sleep.

*The next day, there is a knock at the door.*

"Hello?" Clark said half awake, off course he didn't get much sleep last night.

"Clark? It's Lana, may I come in?" She said cheerfully.

"Off course Lana." Clark said wiping his eyes and superspeed into the bathroom to brush his teeth.

"I just wanted to finish the conversation we had a two days ago Clark." Lana said optimistically.

"I'd love to Lana. Why don't we sit down?" Clark and Lana take a sit on Clark's bed.

"So, there was something you needed to tell me regarding your secret, right?" She said searching his eyes.

"Yeah." Clark got up, he couldn't sit down for this and wandered a little bit, before turning to Lana. "I came the day of the meteor shower." He said turning away, but keeping one eye on her.

Lana's eyes widened, did he think it was his fault? She asked herself, looking at Clark. "I....." Lana stumbled.

"If I could change that day Lana, I swear to you I would. There's nothing that I would rather do, than sacrifice my life to give you back your parent's life." He said nearing tears.

Lana was still in shock and couldn't speak. "Please say something Lana, please." He pleaded with her.

"I loved my parents." She said also nearing tears, Clark turned away at this sight. "But I also love you and know that you do truly mean what you said." She said turning him around to her face, making sure he heard her. "If it wasn't for you, I'd be dead, if it wasn't for your love, my heart would be dead. I am deeply in love with Clark Kent, nothing he could tell me would ever change my mind." She said smiling through her small tears.

Clark smiled back and they leaned in for a kiss. It was a sweat tender one, the kind that made Clark always feel good. Then he remembered what Lex said. "Lana, how are you going to divorce Pete?"

She was a little taken a back by the question, considering their previous topic of discussion. "Ummm, by signing a divorce paper. Is there any other way?" She asked making a little joke.

"I know that part, but Lex said Pete would never sign." Clark said with concern.

"But Pete said he would, I don't understand." She said confused at the situation.

"Lana, I don't know what's going on, but I think you need to get out of there. Why don't you stay with Chloe? Then we'll work everything out." Clark said reasuringly.

Lana nodded, but wondered why Clark didn't want her to stay with him. "Clark, why can't I stay with you?" She asked giving a little confused face.

Clark didn't know what to say, but he knew, for once he had to give her the truth. "Lana the truth is, I don't know who I am. I'm fighting myself, trying to figure out if Superman is really me or Clark Kent is. Until then, I can't make any committments with anyone." Clark looked frustrated.

"It's okay Clark. I'll give you as much time as you need, because I think you're worth the wait." She smiling, then walking out. Clark smiled back.

*Scene shifts to Pete and Lex's meeting.*

"Did you talk to him?" Pete said eagerly.

"Off course I did." Lex said arrogantly.

"What happen?" Pete quickly replied.

"We did our usual thing of going back and fourth, then we warned each other." Lex said with ease.

"What's our next move?"

"We wait, until he makes one." Lex said confidently. "Then we'll strike."

"Oh and I forgot to mention to you that the nuclear weapons have arrived." Pete informed Lex.

"Excellent." Was Lex's reply.

"One more thing, what should we do about Lana?" He asked curiously.

"Let me handle her." Lex grinned.

Chapter 14:

After his conversation with Lana, Clark made his way to work hoping Chloe could help him with his problems.

"Wow Clark, it looks like something ran you over. You look horrible." She said trying too sound serious and trying not to crack a smile.

"I'm so tired, i couldn't sleep at all last night." He said laying his head down on his folded arms on his desk.

"Wow, it must be hard to choose betweem two great girls." Chloe said trying to relate.

"It is, not to mention the fact that they both understood my secret and accept it."

"You told them your secret?" Chloe said shocked.

"Yeah, I had to. If i'm going to choose one of them, I might as well give them all the information about me to see if they can accept me. Lois didn't care, she still loved me and the same with Lana. Just made my decision even harder." Clark said looking more tired talking about.

"Sorry Clark, you must be tearing yourself a part trying to figure this thing out." She said placing her hand on his arm. "Don't forget, I'm always here for you."

"Thanks Chloe, but some how I know that this is something I have to figure out by myself." Clark said getting serious.

"You're right, good luck. Can I just give you a piece of advice?" She said optimisically.

"Sure Chloe." He said with a small smile.

"Follow your heart, you can never go wrong." They shared a nod and Clark went to leave, but turned around.

"Chloe, can you cover for me?"

"Off course, I thought that was a given." She said winking at him as he left.

Clark went back to his apartment, he knew it was time for him to make a decision. He thought to himself, 'I like how strong Lois is, nothing seems to bother her, she just rolls with the punches and she's funny. I can remember the time she found me in the shower.

*Flashback.*

Lois: Nothing like a little North by Northwest action to get the blood pumping, huh?

Clark: [Embarrassed.] Um... we usually take turns in the bathroom.

Lois: Oh, don't start with me, Smallville. You're the one taking the marathon shower. [Pulling a brush through her hair.] Besides, my delicate feminine sensibilities weren't offended the first time I got a glimpse of, uh, Clark Junior.

Clark: My parents kind of missed the whole Woodstock phase. [Clark turns off the water.] Besides, they freaked out the last time they caught me in a co-ed situation.

Lois: [Intrigued.] Last time? So the eagle scout does have a few secrets in the closet.

Clark drapes the towel around his waist and comes out of the shower.

Clark: Just forget it, all right? [Noticing the flannel shirt.] That's my shirt.

Lois: It's the only thing I could find that was clean.

Lois: Hey, let's keep this morning's game of chopper tag a secret, okay?

Clark: Right. [Sarcastic.] Because I'm the one who can't keep my mouth shut.

*End of flashback.*

'That was funny, she could make me laugh and is always straight foward with me. She always strong, which is what superman needs in a woman.' Then there's Lana, the girl i've always liked, even when I forgot who i was.

*Flashback.*

Lana: Hi, Clark.

Clark: Hi.

Lana: I heard about what happened to you. Oh, I’m sorry. I suppose you don’t even know who I am.

Clark: Lana.

Lana is stopped mid-thought as Clark stares at her, unable to mask his feelings for her. Lana stares back for a moment, deeply affected by Clark’s vulnerability.

Lana: [Slowly.] I was, uh, gonna come by later. I didn’t think I’d see you here.

Clark: I actually came here to see you. Chloe, she… she told me that we used to, uh…

Lana: Yeah. Yeah, we did.

Clark: What happened? [Lana can’t answer.] Please, I just… I’d really like to know.

Lana: So would I.

Clark: [Disbelief.] It was me?

Lana lowers her eyes. Clark looks heartbroken.

Clark: I don’t understand. I… If I felt anywhere near like I feel now…

Lana is about to speak.

Clark: You know, don’t tell me. I don’t want to know. I don’t want to know because this time, it’ll be different.

Lana: [Near tears.] This time?

A locker door slams shut behind Lana, startling her and pulling her out of the moment.

Lana: Um, I don’t think we should talk about this right now.

Clark: When can we talk about this?

*End of Flashback.*

'Even when I didn't who I was.........' Clark ran from his apartment to the Daily Planet. Althought he wasn't running in superspeed, he made it to the Daily Planet pretty fast and went to Chloe.

"CHLOE! I know who it is." He said excited.

"What Clark? Know who what it is?" She said startles and confused at by the way he's actting.

"I know who I love." He said happily.

"Oh." Chloe could only blurt out.

"Where's Lois?" He asked.

"She went back to her apartment."

"I have to see her now." Clark ran out of the Planet as Chloe stared on in confusion.

Chapter 15:

Clark finally made it to Lois's apartment. He knocked on her door, until Lois finnally answered. "Clark? Come in."

Clark made his way into Lois's apartment and then turned to her. "We need to talk."

Lois sat down hesitantly, "I'm guessing you made a decision." Clark nodded his head.

"Yes, it wasn't an easy one. I knew which ever choose I made would be a good one, but I had to make the right one." Clark paused, Lois searching his eyes for an answer. "I'm in love with Lana Lang and I will always be, that part of me could never change."

Lois lowered her head in sadness, not knowing how to reply. "Lois, you're a great person and any man would be lucky to be with you, but that man isn't me." Clark said trying to condole her.

"Thanks Clark, but that doesn't make this any easier." Lois said while trying to sniffle her tears.

"I didn't expect it too, but i just needed to tell you that, because it's how I think of you. You're probably the strongest person i've ever met, minus my own parents. Just keep your head up." He lifts her head.

"I'll try." She said as Clark got up, brushed some hair out her eyes, then smiled and left.

As Clark walked outside, he picked up his cell phone and called Lana. "Lana?"

"Hey Clark, what's up?" She asked

"We need to talk now, come to my apartment please." Clark asked.

"Okay, I'll be right here." Lana said slowly, knowing exactly what this was about. She took the keys to her car and started the drive there. About a million things were going on through Lana's head, what was Clark going to say to her? Had he picked Lois and just wanted to let her down slightly? She drove as fast she could, she couldn't take it anymore and had to find out.

She finally made it to Clark's apartment and knock softly on the door.

"Come in." Clark replied knowing exactly who it was. Lana made her way into his apartment. "Please sit down Lana." Clark asked nicely.

"There was something you wanted to talk about?" Lana asked while taking a seat and preparing herself for the worst.

"I made a decision about how I want to be with and how I am." Clark said staring into her eyes.

"Oh." Was the only word Lana could muster at that particular moment.

"I talked to Lois....." He paused, making Lana worry. "And I told her that I was in love with Lana Lang." Clark couldn't hold in his smile any longer as Lana was about to burst into tears.

"You choose me?" Lana said with joy.

"I choose you." Clark said smiling as Lana jumped into his arms. He put down Lana and gazed into her teary eyes. "Lana, do you remember when I lost my memory during our senior year of high school?"

"Yes." Lana nodded.

"Even when i didn't know who I was, I still fell in love with you and felt the same way as I do now. Nothing could ever change how I feel about you, even if I don't know who I am."

"Is that why you choose me?" Lana asked.

"That and I took the advice of a friend. She told me to follow my heart." Clark smiled.

"I'll thank her later." Lana smiled then lean in and kissed Clark tenderly on the lips. Clark returned the kiss and soon it became very passionate.

Clark breaks it for a second. "Lana, I don't know if I can have sex. Remember, i'm not from around her."

"I'll take my chances." She said kissing him again.

"But I won't." Clark said pulling away. "It could be dangerous and I think I should ask my biological father before I do anything." Clark reasoned with her.

"Ok, but we can still kiss, right?" Lana said with a grin.

"Off course." Clark siad as they resumed kissing throughout the day.

Chapter 16:

After a while of passionate kissing, Clark and Lana finally took a break. Both breathing pretty hard.

"Wow, that's what i talk about six years of making up." Lana said smiling through her breaths.

"Yeah and i'd gladly spend six years a part just to do that again." Clark grinned between breaths.

*Lana slaps Clark playfullly.*

"Don't even think about." Lana said pointing her finger at him.

"I would never." He said taking her finger and kissing it. "By the way, i think it's safe for you to move in now." He told her.

"You had your chance." She told him while smiling.

"Yeah?" He says. "Well, if you don't, then i will be forced to take detrastic action." He said with his arms folded.

"Really? And what may that be?" She asked curiously.

"I'll tickle you to death, until agree." He goes up to her and tickles her.

"ahahahahahah, Clark, ahahahahahah, stop." She said between laughs.

"Not until you agree to move in." He continued tickling her.

"Ok fine, i'll move. I'LL MOVE IN." She said as Clark stopped tickling her.

"That's more like it." He said arrogantly.

"I'll get my stuff tomorrow, but until then, where were we?" She said seductively, then her arms around his neck. Then Clark leaned in.

"Right here." He said before kissing her as they dropped on Clark's bed.

*The Next morning.*

Clark and Lana wake up in each other's arms. "mmmm, best night of sleep i've had in a long time." Clark said kissing Lana on the forehead.

"I second that." Lana says kissing Clark's chin. Then Clark turns to his alarm clock.

"CRAP! I have to get to work, it's almost 9." Clark said scrambling up and getting dressed in superspeed mode.

Lana looks on impressed, "I must say, that was incredibly sexy." She said with a grin.

"Your turn now." Clark said returning her grin.

"Not a chance, Kent." She said smiling.

"Alright, then i'm going to work. Don't do anything sexy while i'm gone." He said smiling and kissing her tenderly on the lips.

"I won't I promise." She said giving him another kiss.

"Ok, bye." He said, placing his hand on her cheek until he came to her chin and smiled before leaving.

*Scene shifts to the Daily Planet.*

Clark walks in and see's everyone scrambling around, talking loudly to each other. Clark see's Chloe motioning him to come to her quickly, so he does. "Chloe, what's going on?" She shoves the Daily Planet paper right into his face. He read the headline.

"SUPERMAN, SUPERHOMEWRECKER." It showed Superman and Lana kissing with a story on how Superman stole Lana from Pete.

Clark threw on the paper, "Some of a....." Clark stopped himself before saying it.

"Yeah, the public isn't too thrilled about this either Clark. I'm guessing this is the handy work of Lex and Pete." Chloe said as Clark nodded his head.

"Most definitly." Clark said staring straight ahead in anger.

"What are you going to do?" She asked concerned.

"I don't know, I can't be around Lana as Clark now, otherwise people will know who I am. Not to mention this screws Lana over too, because no the public is going to think the worst of her. Damn him and I think this is just the beginning of his plan." Clark sighed.

"Don't worry Clark, I always got your back. I'll be sure to write a contrasting article to give Superman at least some sort of a break." Chloe said trying to cheer him up.

"Thanks Chloe." Clark says with a small smile.

*Scene turns to Lex and Pete's new office in Metropolis.*

Lex smiles as he reads the paper, "He never saw this one coming."

"I know, it was so perfect." Pete agreed.

"It was, but it was only a small step in our ultimate goal." Lex said getting serious.

"It is and i'm sure he knows that." Pete told Lex.

"Probably, but he could never imagine what's in store for him and his friends." Lex said with a cold tone.

Chapter 17:

*Clark and Chloe are sitting at their desks, when Lana comes walking in.*

"Hey Clark." She goes to kiss him, but he pulls away and shakes her hand.

"How are you doing Ms. Lang." He says trying to act like he doesn't know her that well as she stares on confused.

"What are you doing?" She asked really confused.

"You must be looking for Superman, come this way." He takes her hand as well as the paper and they go into a office as Clark locks the door behind him.

"What's wrong with you?" Lana questions him, then he gives her the paper.

"That's what's wrong with me." He says sternly.

"Oh my God, no." She throws the paper to the ground and slams her hand against the wall.

"It appears you were followed." Clark tells her.

"Yeah, I got that, what are we going to do?" She ask him.

"I don't know, Chloe is going to write a contradicting article. Other than that, I couldn't tell you. We just can't be seen together as Clark and Lana, only as Superman and Lana. Which would make it hard for you to move in and make people think i'm Superman." Clark says sighing.

"Did Lex do this?" Lana questions.

"Him and Pete." Clark says nodding his head.

"Why? I know you guys weren't on the best terms, but i don't understand." Lana says shocked.

"Lana, Lex never forgave me for what happen six years ago. When you didn't marry him and came back to me. Which is why he placed all those things about me in your head and kidnapped me for those days i was missing before you left. Pete helped him do it and it was their plan to take you away from me, then destroy me." Clark tells her.

"How could have been so stupid? All these years, I should have known." Lana says tearing up, then Clark brings her into his arms embracing her.

"It's okay, there's no way you could have known." He says, trying to comfort her.

"I'm going to talk to them now." She said gathering up courage.

"No, i don't want you going near those two. It's not safe." Clark tells her.

"I have to, this is my fight as much as it is yours. I'll be okay, i promise." She says giving him a weak smile as Clark looked on in awe.

"But Lana...." Clark says before he's interupted by Lana's finger on his lips.

"No buts Clark, this is something I have to do, by myself." Lana said firmly to him as he nodded reluctantly. "I love you."

"I love you too." He replies to her, then she gives him a small kiss on the lips and leaves as Clark watches on reluctantly.

*About 15 minutes later, Lana arrives at the office of Pete and Lex.*

Lana takes a deep breath before entering. She enters and is staring face to face with Lex. "How dare you follow me and come up with this garbage." She says in a loud tone.

"Oh, hi Lana, kiss any other guys today." He says with a grin, then she slaps him hard across the face.

"I should have known all these years what kind of person you were." Lana tells him.

"Funny, I could say the same about you. What kind of person cheats on their husband with their best friend or actually former best friend?" Lex ask her.

"You know I never wanted to marry Pete, i only did it, because i thought Clark was dead." Lana says to him.

"Clark dead? Oh, we know better than that." He says with a grin.

"What are you talking about?" She says playing dumb.

Lex laughs a little, "You can't be that naive to think I don't know all about Clark Kent. I've known for a long time now." Lex says with a cold look.

"Is that what this is all about? Clark?" She asks him.

"Yes, it is, you just happen to be a pawn in the game. A very good pawn to use in bringing him down and he will be brought down. One way or another." Lex says coldly.

"You'll never take him down, never." She says trying to be strong.

Lex laughs again, then begins to walk away, then turns around. "Heroes always fall, when the ones they love go down ." Lex says, then walks away, leaving Lana with fear in her eyes.

Chapter 18:

*Chloe's apartment, later that night.*

Lana is sitting Chloe's balcony, looking at the stars as Chloe calls her in. "Lana, why don't you come in and help me with this." Chloe says, referring to her article that would be contradicting Lex's article.

Lana turned around to Chloe, giving her a depressed, beaten look. Chloe saw this and walked over to her, putting her arms around Lana's shoulder. "Hey, we're going to get through this together. Hey can't dictate our lives like this, we'll stop him." Chloe said giving Lana a little squeeze on her shoulders.

"I don't know Chloe, I just don't know." Lana saiid turning her head back the stars as Chloe looked at her sadden by Lana's reply. Then they felt this breeze past by them and Superman appeared behind them.

"Hope, i'm not late." He said with a smile, as Lana turned to see him.

"Clark!" She said getting up and running into his arms. Grabbing on to him tightly and crying.

"Hey, i'm right here, everything is going to be okay." He said concerned and gave a worried look to Chloe. Who gave him one back. "Come on Lana, let's go talk." They walked hand in hand back into Chloe's apartment, to her room.

"Clark, i didn't where you were. I was so afraid and Lex...." She said very fast, Clark almost couldn't understand.

"Hey." He said placing his hand on her cheek. "I'm okay, you know I have to go fight evil everyday, it's what I do and what about Lex?" Clark said the last part in a very serious tone.

Lana gathers her composure. "He told me, that he was going to destroy you and all of us. I was just afraid he did something to you, because I didn't see all day after I left." Lana said wiping her tears.

"Lana, I would never left anything happen to you, Chloe or Lois. I will stop Lex and whatever he is planning. I promise." He said trying to reasure her with a small smile.

Lana slowly nodded her head, "I missed you so much." She told him.

"I missed you too, very much." He said before kissing her passionately on the lips, making both of them fall back on the bed. Their intensity on the kissing grew as Lana reached for Clark's pants, but he lightly took her hand. "We can't, remember?" He told her in a whisper.

"Ok, then just hold me Clark." She said leaning her head on his chest.

"Alright." They laid on the bed together, wrapped in each other's arms. The only place where Lana would ever feel totally protected. Clark then kissed her forehead as they both closed their eyes and drifted off to slept.

The next morning Chloe walked into her bedroom to find Clark and Lana still sleeping.

"Oh, aren't you two cute." She said to them smiling, even though they didn't move at all. So Chloe thought to herself for a second and then grinned. She walked up slowly to both for them, "BOO." She screamed as Clark and Lana both jumped up.

"What! What's wrong?" Clark said looking around frantically.

"Nothing, now get up and eat some breakfast." Chloe said giggling at Clark. As Lana was still rubbing her eyes and leaning on Clark's shoulder.

"We'll get you for that Chloe." Clark told her as she stuck her tongue out and left the room.

Clark then looked down at Lana, "How did you sleep, beautiful?" He asked while kissing her forehead.

"I slept great, because it was with you." She said lifting her head to face his eyes.

"Good, i would be upset it you didn't sleep great." He said smiling at her as she leaned back into his chest. "But we do have to get up." He told her.

"Can't we stay here forever." She asked him.

"Unfortunately not." He said looking down at her.

"Why not? Please." She said giving him the puppy dog lips.

"There is nothing I would rather do, then stay in bed with you forever Lana. However, there's this bald-headed nut case and his little rat boy coming after us." He told her.

"Ok, fine." She said dragging herself up.

"Hey, comeback here." He said lightly grabbing her wrist and bringing her into a long lingering kiss. "We can stay in bed all day, during or honeyroom." He told her and then wicked at her.

"Sounds like a plan to me." She said, then brought him back into a long lingering kiss, until Chloe yelled from the kitchen.

"DON'T MAKE ME GET THE HOSE." She yelled as Clark and Lana laughed. 'Wait, do I even have a hose?' Chloe thought to herself and then shrugged. Soon after Chloe's scream, Clark and Lana entered the kitchen.

"The hose? huh? You sound like a t.v from the 70's" Lana said grinning at Chloe.

"Hey, the classics never die." She said winking at them.

"Well, when you get back from the 70's, would mind updating me on your current article Chloe." Clark said grabbing a plate.

"We are a go Clark, I just finished it last night, while you two were having.......fun." She said raising her eyebrows at them as they both blushed.

"Great, maybe I can finally clear my name and Lana's from public scorn." Clark said happily.

"I just hope it works." Lana said to them, Clark placed his hand on hers and gave it a reasuring squeeze.

Chapter 19:

*The Next day at the Daily Planet.*

"Sullivan, get in here." Perry yelled from his office as Chloe rushed to his office.

"Yes, Perry?" She asked.

"We can't print this." Perry said revealing Chloe's article on Lex.

"Why not? Freedom of the press." Chloe told him.

"I'm sorry, but bashing the President of the U.S. is not something I want this paper to be known for. It also doesn't do us any good to be on the President's bad side. I'm sorry." Perry told her.

"Sir, this isn't fair or right. Superman didn't do anythong wrong and should have his named cleared. The President is the one who is wrong here, the people have a right to know." Chloe told him sternly.

"The answer is no, now i'm sorry, but innocent or not. I can't run this article." Perry told her.

"THIS IS BULL AND YOU KNOW IT. He's bullying us around and no one has the balls to do anything about it." Chloe yelled at Perry.

"THIS IS NOT OUR FIGHT, now go back to your desk Ms. Sullivan. Before you lose more than this article." Perry firmly told her as she turned around dejected and headed toward the door. "But for the record, I do believe he is innocent." Perry said a softer tone to Chloe as she nodded and left.

"Chloe, what happen?" Clark said the second she came out of the office.

"He won't run the article." Chloe told him.

"Why?" Clark asked in shocking tone.

"He says we're bashing the President and that he doesn't want to be on Lex's bad side." Chloe said to Clark.

"That's crap, I......I mean Superman deserves to have his name cleared." Clark said getting upset.

"I know, but we don't have any options here." Chloe told him as Clark looked away in anger.

*Scene shifts to Lana, walking down the street, coming toward ther Daily Planet.*

*I see her boss, she's walking toward the Daily Planet." A man on a cell said to someone on the other end as they wacted Lana.

"You know what to do." The man on the other end of the phone said.

"Right, i'll get it done." The man said hanging up the cell phone and walking faster toward Lana. Lana noticed him and started walking faster, then began to ran. They man ran toward her and grabbed her, pulling her into an alley.

"HELP!" Lana screamed as the man pulled her to the ground. "HELP!" Lana screamed again, as the man ripped her skirt and hit her, to stop her from moving.

"Stay still." He yelled, as he ripped her skirt off and continued to hit her.

"SOMEONE HELP!" She yelled again, as loud as she could.

*Scene shifts to the Daily Planet.*

"Lana?" Clark says he uses his super hearing and hears screams coming from the alley. He superspeeds into the alley with his Superman costume on and see's the man rapping Lana. This enrages him and he grabs the guy and throws intio the wall.

"Lana? Are you okay?" He asked her softly as he placed her head on his chest. She was badly beaten and her skirt was ripped to pieces. Clark looked at her desparately and then slowly turned to the man, who was now trying to run away. He superspeed to him and grabbed him by the throat, pressing him against the wall. "You did this to her." He yelled at him and began to squeeze harder. Chloe and all the rest of the Daily Planet employees ran outside. Chloe saw Lana, then Superman choking the guy. Chloe ran to him, Clark still squeezing the light out of the guy.

"Clark stop, he's not worth it." Chloe told him trying to get Clark to release the man. It was too late though, Clark was inraged and saw nothing but the man. He finally released the guy and Chloe checked his pulse.

"He's dead." Chloe said softly, as Clark looked down on him and then picked up Lana.

"We have to get her to a hospital." He said and flew away.

Chapter 20:

Clark sat on a chair besides Lana's bed, staring at her helplessly as a million thoughts ran through his mind. 'How could I have let this happen?' He said to himself. 'I have all the powers in the world and it wasn't enough to save the person I care about most in the world.'

Sadness then began to turn to anger. 'When I saw that guy on her, I just plain lost it. I couldn't control my actions, i was so upset and hate filled my vains for this man who did this to Lana. I can't believe i killed him though, i've never killed anyone before, on purpose. No one deserves to die, but I couldn't stop myself. Look what he did to her.' Clark thought as mind yet again began to race.

"Maybe I was more mad at myself that I didn't get there in time. I knew she was coming, why didn't I meet her outside? Why didn't I hear here sooner? I HAVE SUPERHEARING, WHAT? IT ONLY WORKS WHEN IT FEELS LIKE IT.' Clark screamed to himself, trying to control himself as looked at Lana for comfort.

'Look at here, the most caring, beautiful and loving person I know, next to my mother. She fell in love with me and look what happen. The ones I love, will always be the ones who pay for my mistakes. She doesn't deserve this.' Clark thought as Lana began to stir.

"Where am I?" She said alertly.

"You're in Metropolis General hospital Lana. Are feeling okay?" Clark said as Lana saw him and lunged into his arms.

"Oh Clark, it was horrible. He tried to hurt me and forced himself on me." She said becoming to cry.

"It's okay, i'm here, he'll never touch you again." Clark said trying to comfort her as Chloe knocked and came in.

"Hi Lana, how are you feeling?" Chloe asked.

"A little better now." She said gripping Clark's hand tightly.

"Good, if you ever need to talk about what happen. I'll always be here for you." Chloe told her.

"Thanks Chloe." Lana said giving a small smile as Chloe turned to Clark.

"Can I talk to you for a second outside." Chloe said to him as he nodded and turned to Lana.

"I'll be right back." He said kissing her forehead and slowly releasing his hand from hers. Clark then followed Chloe outside.

"What is it?" Clark asked.

"You know what, you killed him Clark." Chloe said bluntly.

"I know.....I couldn't...." Clark turned away.

"I understand you were upset over what just happened and I'm not going to cry for the man. However, the police and the papers are going to be all over this. It wasn't a good time for you to kill a man." Chloe told him.

"It was a mistake, but when i saw what he did to Lana. I just went nuts and now i'm going to have to face the consequences." Clark told her.

"Don't worry, we'll come up with something." Chloe told him.

"You know, I really don't care. I'm just going to focus on keeping her safe and being with her. That's alll that matters to me anymore." Clark told Chloe, then went back into Lana's room and Chloe watced on.

Chapter 21:

*Later that night at Chloe's apartment.*

Chloe is sleeping, when all of a sudden she hears screams coming from Lana's room. She runs into the room, Lana is screaming in her sleep. "Lana, wake up." She nudges Lana.

"Get away from me." She yells, still dreaming.

"Lana it's me, don't worry." Chloe told her, but Lana still pushed her away.

"DON'T TOUCH ME." She screamed as Chloe looked afraid.

"I have to call Clark." She said as quickly call Clark and he superspeeded to her apartment.

"What's wrong?" He asked as Chloe pointed to the screaming Lana.

"She's having a nightmare." Chloe told him as Clark walked up to her.

"Lana, it's me, everything is okay." Clark said, but Lana was still screaming.

"Stay away me!" She yelled as Clark just took her in his arms, despite her resisting.

"Lana, it's Clark, calm down." Clark told her as he tried to comfort.

"No, no!" She yelled still dreaming and fighting.

"I love you, please calm down." Clark said as Lana began to give up and embraced him, still crying. "It's going to be alright, I promise." He told her, rubbing her back.

"You should probably stay the night." Chloe told him.

"Yeah, I think that's a good idea." Clark replied.

*The next morning.*

Clark begins to stir, with his arms firmly rapped around Lana. He knew after last night, how bad it must have been for her. It was much worse than he thought and he couldn't do anything to protect her from it. Lana then began to stir and she looked up at Clark. "Clark!" She said lunging into his arms.

"It's over now, you just had a bad dream." He told Lana.

"It felt so real, it was like I was there all over again." She told Clark.

"I don't care what I have to do, but I will never let that happen again. I'm so sorry, I should have been there." Clark told her.

"You can't be there all the time Clark. I would never blame you for that." Lana said, now trying to comfort him.

"I just can't help thinking this was my fault. I've put you in danger so many times before too." He sighs. "Maybe being back together was a mistake." Clark told her as Lana took his face into her hands.

"It wasn't, nothing could cause me more pain than losing you again. No amount of pain could take away my love for you or want me to ever think about being without you. I love you Clark." Lana told him.

"I love you too." He said as he drew her into a deep passionate kiss, fully expressing their emtions. Chloe then knocks, Lana and Clark slowly part their lips.

"Come in." Lana said, still not taking her eyes off Clark.

"You'd think you'd have a sore throat after all the yelling you did last night." Chloe said jokingly.

"Yeah." Lana said.

"Are you sure you're okay." Chloe said, giving Lana a concerned look.

"I'm fine, don't worry." Lana said, reasuring Chloe.

"Good, now on to bigger problems." Chloe turns on the T.V. in the room. Clark and Lana turn their attention to it.

"Yesterday, at 2:30 pm, Lana Lang, a presidential advisor was being raped. As always, Superman came to save the day. However, after saving Miss. Lang, his new girlfriend, Superman would take matters into his own hand and kill the man. The President of the U.S., who happens to be in metropolis, would comment on the case." The newscaster said as the station turned to Lex speaking.

"What happened yesterday was a tragdic. No woman should ever have to go through that. However, what's tragdic is a so called hero, killing man and taking the law into his own hands. I've spoken with army and police departments, they are prepare to find Superman and take him with full force. Off course despite my insistance, they are willing to allow Superman to turn himself in. I know he is listening to this, so I urge to turn himself in and not waste anymore lives. Thank you." Lex says as Chloe turns off the T.V.

"What are we going to do?" Chloe asked, as Lana took Clark's hand.

"Only one thing to do, turn myself in." Clark told them as Lana look surprised.

"Clark, you can't turn yourself in. That's what Lex would want you to do." Lana told him as he turned to her.

"Superman stands for truth, justice and the american way. He can't run away from the consequences, otherwise what he stands for would no longer mean anything." Clark told Lana.

"Alright." She said lowering her head. Clark lifted it and kissed her gently on the lips.

"I'll be back, nothing could keep me away from you." He said as he walked up to Chloe and hug her.

"Take care of her." He whispered.

"i will." She whispered back, then Clark flew out. He made a quick stop at his apartment to change into his suit, then went to the Metropolis police station.

"I'm here." He said as all the officers stared at him.

"Okay, put your hands behind your back." The officer said.

"Fine." Superman did it, they handcuffed him and took him in.

Chapter 22:

The officer walked superman to a cell. "I'm sorry." He whispered as Superman walked into the cell.

"I don't blame you." He whispered back as the police chief approached the cell.

"Superman, you have been charged with murder. You will have a trial as soon as possible. Now, I know those bars can't hold you and you can break out any time you want. However, if i'm right about you, which i think I am, then you will stay here and wait for trail." The chief told him.

"Yes sir." Superman says, then the chief nods to him and he nods back.

*Chloe's apartment.*

Chloe and Lana are watching the t.v. report on Superman being arrested. Both not knowing what to do, grief striken, until Lana finally snaps out of it.

"We need to do something!" Lana said emphatically.

"What do you suggest we do?" Chloe snapped back.

"I don't know, but i'm not letting him go to jail." Lana told her.

"I don't want to see it happen either, but there's nothing we can do, especially knowing that we're going up against Lex. He's the richest, most powerful......." Chloe stops and begins to smile.

"What?" Lana asked.

"I have an idea." Chloe said.

"What is it?" Lana asked.

"Just trust me." Chloe said smiling.

"Ok." Lana said.

"Let me make a few calls, why don't you go see Clark." Chloe told her.

"Alright, just hurry up." Lana said grabbing her purse.

"I will, tell him he has my support." Chloe said.

"Bye." Lana said leaving as Chloe picked up the phone.

*Prison.*

Pete walks into the prison, with a grin on his face as Clark stares him down. "If isn't our favorite superhero, superhomewrecker." Pete said still with a grin on his face.

"There's nothing stopping me from pulling these bars a part and ripping you to pieces." Clark told him.

"Yes, there is, remember, you're the good guy." Pete said with a little chuckle.

"Yea...." Clark said he trailed off and they were silent for a while.

"You know, i never thought we would be in this position." Pete said as Clark went up the bars where Pete was.

"Neither did I, but I guess you can never really know someone, even your best friend." Clark said with a cold stare on his face.

"You got that right, one day your best friend is a normal person and the next he's an alien from across the galaxy." Pete said as they shared insults.

"When did you know? When was the day you decided to turn your back on me?" Clark asked.

"I don't really know to be honest. I guess it just boiled up inside of me, the way you stole Chole from me, the way I was always your shawdow. That kind of gets to people, always being second best. To always know that even to your best friends you would only be second best, it tears you up inside." Pete said becoming emtional.

"You were never second best to me." Clark told him.

"Except I was, come on Clark, you know Lana is number one to you. Then Chloe, you know you were number one to her, but what about me? My so called, two best friends and i was second to them." Pete told him with anger.

"I still loved you, ever if I loved someone else a little more. You were still my best friend, the first person I ever trusted with my secret, not blame this on me. I would never turn my back on the people I love and care about." Clark told me.

"Maybe so, but you were never second best." Pete said as he turned to walk away.

"A part of me does blame myself, but then the other reminds me who you are. You're no longer the Pete I called my best friend." Clark told him as Pete stood there for a second, then continued walking away.

*A couple minutes later.*

Lana walks in with her purse, Clark sees her and immediately goes up to the bars. They embrace through the bars. "Are you okay?" She asked.

"I'm fine, although i'd prefer to be out there, instead of in here." Clark said, smiling slightly.

"What would I do without you?" She asked stroking his face.

"Don't worry, we'll get through this, we always do." He said taking her hand and kissing it.

"Chloe's actually working on something now." Lana told him.

"How?" Clark asked.

"I don't know, she said she had to make a few calls and told me to trust her." Lana said to Clark.

"I hope she has something up her sleeve, because besides just breaking out of here and flying away, i'm out of ideas." Clark told her.

"We'll get you out of here, I promise." Lana told him and began to walk away.

"Lana." Clark said as she came back to him.

"Yeah." She said, as he drew her into a deep kiss.

"I just wanted to kiss you, in case I never get to do it again." Clark said to her.

"You will." She said kissing him.

"I love you." Clark said.

"I love you too." Lana told him, as they embraced, leaning their heads softly up against one another.
