All of us from the HP Thread would like to thank the mods for allowing to make another HP thread. Due to every reading rates, and whenever people are able to get the book many members would find it difficult to discuss in the HP thread. This thread allows the sole discussion of the book. So thank you so much moderators for allowing us to do this :).

A week from Saturday HBP comes out
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v280/Avonela/HBP.jpg

I'm starting this thread now to countdown the days. Further speculation, and once the book is all HBP discussion will take place here. You can discuss what happened in the . The other HP thread HBP will not be discussed until the end of August. This thread is sort of a waiting time.

Thus far our speculations from the HP thread.

Who is the Half Blood Prince? Possiblities:
-Lupin
-Seamus
-Hagrid
-Dumbledore
-Mad Eye Moody
-A new character

Who is going to perish in HBP? Possiblities:
-Neville
-Mr. or Mrs. Weasley
-Lupin
-Ron
-Dumbledore
-Professour McGongall

What are the discussions HBP will touch on? From JKR:
-More info on the lovely Lily Potter(we have couple theories on her)
-More background on Tom Riddle aka Lord Voldemort(this one will cross over into the last book as well)
-Harry will get a love interest
-We will have a new Defense of the Dark Arts Teacher
-We will also have new Minister of Magic
-The wizard world will be a different environment since everyone knows Voldemort as return, and the war has just begun(this was actually discussed in the HBP by us :) ).

I think that the gist. I dont have time to find the theories right now until the afternoon. I just wanted to get it the thread started.

Thanks again to the moderators for allowing us to do this :).

Over the course of the week leading the release this thread will mostly be speculations, but once July 16th hits whatever happens in the book can be discussed. So if you dont want to be spoiled while reading the book do not come to this thread, but go to the other HP thread. The HP thread will still be active from news of any sort, HP movies, and discussion of the previous five books. HBP will not be discussed in the other thread until the end of August.

You can discuss HBP in the HP thread in segments. We call it the 7 Chapter Rule. Each week everyone will allowed to discuss at least seven chapters of the book each week in the HP thread. This will allow people to speculate the HP thread without getting spoiled of what happens in the book. So the 7 Chapter Rule is active in the HP Thread.

Summers' book 6 theories so far

Okay I have to put my thoughts somewhere about the first three chapters. Now, I think JKR gave a lot foreshadowing in those chapters. What I think will happen at the end of this book is:
-Dumbledore will, in fact, die because it really goes with the symbolism of growing up. A rite of passage that Harry will have to face in the last book. It will be sad if he dies. I know I will cry, but JKR loves symbolism/metaphors. I kinda hope I'm wrong, but Ch.3 really emphasizes this two me.
-Snape...Snape..Snape. Very interesting. Now there are two theories I have about him:
1)He is playing the evil side, and is helping Dumbledore. However, I dont think this likely for some reason.
2)Snape always been evil, and all this time as been playing us and the Order. I think to emphasize that he is, in fact, evil he may have to kill Dumbledore because Dumbledore is so loved by the fans, and his death would be a harsh blow to Harry and the Order. But it will show Snape is not longer good(much how Joss Whedon emphasized that Angel is truly gone to the audience by having him kill Jenny Calander).

If these theories come to past(the Dumbledore and Snape theory number two) would be more motivation for Harry to fulfill his destiny.

I want to say bravo to Alice. Her speculation on the Dementors siding with Voldemort was right on the money. I thought of you Alice, and you were so right :D ;) *clasps*

What is it now? 7 days and around 11 hours till the book comes? I'm just guessing from looking earlier at Mugglenet.

So Mel, this thread is all HBP? The seven chapter rule doesn't apply here?
So if someone read the whole book really fast and posted on it here we would all be spoiled. The way you wrote it sounded that way. So....?

Thanks to the Mods & Less than eight days everyone :D.

Is this thread still game for speculation? I was wondering about the Quidditch team, and I'm sure you guys have already covered that in the other thread, but I don't have the slightest idea where to look, any tips?

speculation is what were doing on this thread until the book comes out what do you mean about quidditch

4EverSmallville
07-08-2005, 01:41 PM
Okay. Well I know that Harry will most likely be reinstated since Umbridge is gone. But I'm wondering who will fill the positions that are being left open. Would Ginny try out for Chaser like she said she would, is Ron going to play Keeper? I was wondering what you all knew about that.

4EverSmallville

There are students graduating though, aren't there? Like the captain, Angelina. I was wondering if you guys had any speculation as to who will fill those spots. As of now, I only know for certain that Harry will be on the team. Do you guys think Harry will be made captain, since it looks like he's going to be the most senior team member?

They don't take N.E.W.T.s until seventh year, but the classes they are going to be taking are N.E.W.T. level. I can't wait to see how Potions goes for Harry and who they come up with for a new D.A.D.A. teacher. I wish it would be Lupin, but I doubt too many parents would be thrilled.

I especially like how people think the job is jinxed. Just adds to interest in the story, IMO. I think Mad-Eye just let them do all that stuff because he was on Voldemort's orders to make sure Harry got through the TriWizard. I'm wondering how Voldemort going public will effect Snape and his responsibilities with the Order.

It looks like that is Hogwarts in the background.

I think that is Ron, Hermione, and Ginny...though it could be Neville I guess. I'm sticking with Ron.

That was the same thought I had Ash!

4EverSmallville
07-08-2005, 02:37 PM
I was thinking Hogwarts too but I told myself to stop before I practically burst with anticipation . So I don't feel as bad since you said it first.

They put the Dark Mark up whenever they've killed so, does that mean that if that mark is at Hogwarts, they've killed there?

I know, I know. If that is the grounds of Hogwarts then they still can't get inside, but can on the grounds I assume. I think that's Ron, Hermione and Ginny too, but there's a faint figure right behind Ron(?) that's really hard to see. I wonder who that is? I wonder if the dark mark is at Hogwarts because Voldemort and the death eaters will attack the school? And possibly kill Dumbledore?

I'm so excited I can't think of anything intelligent to say right now.

Yeah, that's a good speculation. Maybe Voldemort and his death eaters have attacked the school and the DA kids have to fight him off? I wonder how Voldemort got on the grounds though? I'm kind of thinking Dumbledore is going to die now.

I'm kind of thinking Dumbledore. I think it would explain how Voldemort was able to get on the school grounds in the first place.

I was thinking along those lines as well. Someone spotted, maybe at mealtime when the entire school is congregated, and they all flood out to see it.

If it's at Hogwarts then I don't think this particular one will be either of the Weasleys. But I do remember reading something that said the mysterious deaths will begin again, so Voldemort will probably be active in killing now. Maybe he will get to the Weasleys. Didn't Sirius say that if there was ever a bunch of blood traitors it was them?

Hagrid :( . I hope it isn't him, but if it's on the grounds, he's the most likely to be out there.

It can't be too difficult to get onto the grounds. Remember Mr. Crouch made it even in his mad state, so a perfectly sane and powerful Voldemort wouldn't have to much trouble. Also, he could have a source inside the castle like he did in GoF. You never know.

I thought the death mark always had the snake too? It was Voldemort's symbol.

I think the dementors have free will because everyone was worried about them joining up with Voldemort. If they didn't have free will then Dumbledore wouldn't have said that they were dangerous.

Summers
07-08-2005, 03:46 PM
I dont think Dumbledore even mentioning free will. The dementors are dangerous because they show know signs of mercy. They dont care about anything. If you are in their path they will take away your soul.

Its a part of their nature to be unforgiving. What possible reason would the dementors take lead with Voldemort?

"The rest of us sleep less soundly in our beds, Cornelius, knowing that you have put Lord Voldemort's most dangerous supporters in the care of creatures who will join him the instant he asks them!" said Dumbledore. "They will not remain loyal to you, Fudge! Voldemort can offer them much more scope for their powers and their pleasures than you can!"

JK Rowling #1 on Amazon's list of top selling authors
In celebration of Amazon's 10 year anniversary, the online mega store has announced their top selling authors. No surprise, the author of the Potter series made it to the number one slot. Others making the top ten included Spencer Johnson ("Who Moved My Cheese?"), Dan Brown ("The Da Vinci Code"), Dr. Seuss, and Stephen King.

WOOHOO!!!

Jim Dale to read passage from Harry Potter on Today Show
NBC's Today Show, which has had several big Potter exclusives in the past, lists in their schedule that on Tuesday Jim Dale will be reading a passage from Harry Potter. At this time, we are not sure what book he'll be reading from. We're working to confirm this - stay tuned!

UPDATE: NBC says they want it to be a surprise. We find it unlikely that they would bring him on the show just to read from any of the first five books, so it is possible that he could read a passage from book 6.

So on July 12th this will happen...Oh, I bet it is HBP :D

Man thank god my hotel has wireless internet! Thanks alot for the picture Snake Corda! I dont know if it was cleared up but the deathmark to my understanding ALWAYS has the serpent. It is the mark of Voldemort. I find it odd that Harry isnt in the back of the cover art. Though was I the only one to think that the boy in the back didnt look like Ron but a different character entirely? Possibly the HBP? Just throwing that out there. Probably wrong. Anyway thanks again for the picture!

The back cover depicts Ron and Hermione as well as two other Hogwarts students looking at “the Dark Mark”. Drawn in the same green tones as the front cover, GrandPré has created another incredible piece of art that captures the essence and mystery of the Harry Potter books.

HBP leaked in Canada
Raincost Books, the publisher of the Harry Potter series in Canada, has released a statement regarding a leak of up to 15 copies of Half Blood Prince. The leak occurred when the retailer, the Great Canadian Superstore, accidentally put the copies out for sale. In response to the leak, Raincost Books has filed an injunction to protect the plot and is urging anyone who obtained a copy to return it until July 16th.

Here we go again :(.

A mysterious ring...
Look at this picture from Amazon's warehouse. See a ring on Harry's finger? This appears to be the same ring that is on the UK edition's back cover, and it is definitely not on the original US edition.
Let the speculation begin, and be sure to check out one of our Featured Editorials which looks at a HBP ring theory. Thanks to Sara for the tip!

EDIT: Looking at other pictures in the batch of Amazon photos, it looks like this is the only one with the strange indentation. Misprinted, edited, or a special marking on some books? We'll just have to wait and see.

Remember the ring on the UK version. Remember speculated it couldve belonged to either Lily Potter or HBP himself. If its on Harry's figure there is a good possiblity that it is in fact Lily's after all.

Which one. We had so many speculations I forget who has dibs.

If its a man's ring then I'm going with that is belongs to the HBP. If is Sirius, then perhaps Lupin gave it to Harry to remember Sirius.

Ok, are we all believing that Sirius is gone for good? Because I'm hanging on to the dim hope that he's not really dead, and will be returning--if not in HBP, then by book 7.

KEEP HOPE ALIVE, PEOPLE!!!!!!!!

And about the HBP, since JKR has said it will neither be Harry nor Voldy, what about James? I know he's dead and all, but who knows? Or, possibly it could be Sirius, since I'm believing he'll come back. Hmm...

Summers
07-12-2005, 12:12 AM
That's a good point. The HBP could be a person who is dead, but has something valuable needed by Harry or Voldemort.

Clarks Blue Eyed Angel
07-12-2005, 12:16 AM
Something valuable like a golden ring of power? :D

Well, it wouldn't be the first time HP had similarities to LOTR... white bearded wizards and scary creatures in black hooded capes, anyone? ;) Seriously, though, I don't think the ring would be a misprint. Why would an artist go through the trouble of drawing it on Harry's hand if it didn't have some significance? I think we might be on to something here...

BTW, did anyone read the review posted at Mugglenet by the kid who saw the screening of GOF? I won't say anything about it, since it's spoilery, other than WOW, I can't wait to see this movie!!!!!!!

Summers
07-12-2005, 12:19 AM
I dont know if its a misprint because that ring was on the UK version as well as the what many speculated to be the pensive.

I read just a snipnet of what it says on the review. I didnt read the post, but I got giddy that mugglenet said the kid said it was just as good as SS and CoS. The two best adaptations of the books :D.

Clarks Blue Eyed Angel
07-12-2005, 12:39 AM
Well, the part where the kid said it had the potential to be "the best of all the HP movies, including PoA" once they were finished with it (since what they saw at the screening was a rough draft) really has me doing backflips! Yay!

Cause I mean, PoA... da-yum! That was a good movie!!!

Clarks Blue Eyed Angel
07-12-2005, 12:55 AM
I've read a few articles in the past half hour from this private screening, some by people who don't read the books, and some who do. Some of those who don't read the books said it was hard to follow because it jumps rather quickly, but others said they didn't have a problem with it. And those who know the books said it's a wonderful adaptation, very true to the books. I'm glad to hear that, because I watch the movies BECAUSE I LOVE THE BOOKS, not the other way around :p There are a few things that are different in the movie, which I suspect are mainly because of editing due to time constraints. I won't mention them since you haven't read the article though. All in all, from what I've read, true HP fans are going to be very happy with this movie. I'm so excited :D :D :D

Summers
07-12-2005, 12:58 AM
Cool. I'm giddy, and its only a test screening. They can do certain reshoots(if necessary), or fix some things. I mean that's what test screenings are for. To see what should keep in and what should keep out.

The only thing I do know is that the Durselys are not in this one because of the allot time that should be devoted to the story. That's understandable.

But I need to ask one thing. Just say yes or no pretty please. Is the Tom Riddle opening with his house in the movie?

I at first thought that Finnes was a terrible choice for this part, but all the reviewers, even those who thought the movie wasn't that great (mostly those who hadn't read the books) agreed that Finnes does a fantastic job, and that he is the perfect Voldemort. That's twice now that I've stood corrected... I didn't think Oldman would make a convincing Sirius, but I *loved* him in the role. They also say the woman playing Rita Skeeter (forgot her name, sorry) does a great job as well. :D

I dont mind that. I just wish Matt Lauer didnt say "new book". My mom(who is burnt on HP because of my dad and I) she was even grrr...argh about it lol.

It was a passage from the third chapter when Lupin and other wizards comes to Harry right after the Dementors in the alley. Mugglenet has the link to view the Dale interview with Katie Couric who even asked if Dumbledore dies, and he replies "I signed" so he cannot say anything.

Am I the only one who sees a serpent head when you look behind the crack? Seriously just look at it. Maybe it belonged to Voldy or another Slytherin. Or someone else entirely. Though I have no doubt in my mind that the ring is magical.

I'm looking really hard, and I dont see a serpent. I just see an "S". Your are right. In fact, we speculated that the ring can be the HBP as well.

SheBangs
07-12-2005, 11:59 AM
I could be stretching on the serpent. Thats just what I saw when I first looked at it. A serpents head.*shrug*The ring itself? That would be interesting. Maybe it could be needed for both sides and could be used for good or evil? I remember when OOP was out. The 6th book was supposedly called Hary Potter and The Green Flame Torch. It was a weapon that was suppose to heal all good and kill all evil or vice versa. It all depended on who had it. Could this be just an incarnation of the Torch?

Summers

I dont remember that lol. But IMO I think Clarks Eye Blue Angel and I were speculating last night we basically came to that senerio as well.

That the HBP could be dead(she thought that up :) ), and the ring belongs to him. The ring would be very useful in the war. That Voldemort and Harry desperating need. Maybe that's what boat leads to in the UK backcover. To the ring?

The thing is what would the ring do Kill all evil. Male you more powerful? What? Though we might be putting way to much into the cover art(god I hope not) I just thought the boat led to Hogwarts. Though it could be Harry and the gang have to go on an adventure to find the ring. Though how would he since he had classes? This is all getting me confused and excited. Well, IMO If you look at all the book covers are things that are in the book itself. The story in the book. Is it me, but they finish there adventures right before finals or after lol.

I hope the O.W.L.S are the first things we know about. You would assume they would receive a letter during the summer, so they know what classes to take in the 6th year.

Your half-right she wrote the last chapter of the last book, but she did not tell what the chapter entails.

She did say she might make another HP book that tells of what happened after the children left Hogwarts. Or an encyclopedia of the backstory she already written that's not in the book.

True, but the thing is we come to the hero/heroine complex. Hermoine and Ron arent him. They wouldnt know what he is going through. He can let them in, but it still as frustrating.

To me Harry is a physical, athletic person. He needs to release all those frustrations and release it. Its one the reasons Buffy always workout/went patroling, and Harry loving to fly on his broomstick. Its a release. It doesnt mean he wont go to his friends still, but it helps from things getting bottled up inside.

I feel the same way about Harry. Even though I ship Ron/Hermione I wouldn't mind if Harry got with Hermione. I think it's because I like all of the characters so I don't mind if they get together and that I trust JKR to do a good job writing whatever romance she does decide to do. I'm just glad that none of us on this thread get into big shipper disputes.;)

My order from amazon hasn't shipped yet. It says that it's "shipping soon".

I figured out why. They are shipping them out in stages. Your the first stage of books shipped. I'm the like the second or third stage. Its how they are able to give it to us on Saturday.

Hmm..I dont how Amazon is doing. They said on Today show if you pre-ordered by July 11th you will get it on Saturday. If its not shipped by Friday, then I would stress.
