oh ok i know who you are talking about, not to sound stupid but what is rent about
slayer
07-13-2005, 05:06 PM
You don't sound stupid, I lot of people don't bother b/c they don't know what it's about. Here's somethong I quoted from an external source.
Based on Puccini's classic opera La Boheme, Jonathan Larson's revolutionary rock opera Rent tells the story of a group of bohemians struggling to live and pay their rent in the gritty background of New York's East Village. "Measuring their lives in love," these starving artists strive for success and acceptance while enduring the obstacles of poverty, illness and the AIDS epidemic.

I watched the trailer. So... is the movie a musical too or what? I don't like musicals. I hope fans of the Broadway show like it, but for me, only backstabbing friends are worth watchin'.

Yes... the movie is an adaptation of the musical. I'm sure they will cut some, but it will be essentially the same as the play... and it is staring almost the entire cast of the original Broadway production. I LOVE THAT!!!!

I went and seen this last year in Teledo around Christmas, it was pretty good. I havnt seen the movie yet because it just looks a little boring. I like the play, the commercial looks so 'typical' on tv.

The reviews are looking good so far. And the movie comes out on Wednesday - just in time for Thanksgiving. Problem - it's going to be competing with the unbeatable Harry Potter, Walk the Line, and a huge range of holdiay (Thanksgiving/Christmas) movies that are being released.
Having just watched the trailer, can't say I'm massively grabbed by it but I quite enjoy musicals so sure I'll give it a try...

It's a really good musical, I was able to see it on stage. The issue is whether or not it will translate well into a movie. They have the original broadway cast, which will either hinder them or benefit them.

I'm excited to see it and i like how they have teh original broadway cast
Was Rosario Dawson apart of the original broadway cast?
yellowqueen22
11-22-2005, 09:40 AM
No... Rosario Dawson & Taye Diggs are the only cast members from the main group that have been recast. Although te previews seem to feature them, the musical is more of an ensemble piece about a group of friends living in New York. The story focuses on two roomates Mark, a film maker, and Roger, a song writer, as they struggle to deal with life's ups and downs. Both Mark & Roger are played by the original broadway castmembers.
The group of friends is about 8 people, including both Rosario & Taye's characters. Rosario plays Mimi, a stripper with an S&M routine, a drug addiction and a surprising look on life. Taye plays Benny, who used to be one of the group, but now, after marrying rich, has sacrificed all his bohemian values.
