Downright the best directed mob movie ever. The scenes were real. The actors were incredible.
The Wonderful Cast:
Ray Liotta: Henry Hill
Robert De Niro: Jimmy Conway
Joe Pesci: Tommy
Paul Scorvino: Paul Cicero
Martin Scorsese the director of this film is downright perfect in nailing the true essence of Mob mentality. This movie seen from Henry Hill's point of View really makes you feel like your in the society. And what's better, Scorsese's able to brilliantly make you feel what's going on in Henry's mind.
Great film, has anybody ever seen it?

This is in my top 3 films of all time. It was better than any of the Godfather films. Ray liotta was great, Joe Pesci won an oscar and Robert De Nero as usual was top class. And you couldn not have had a better don than Paul Sorvino he was ice cold. Class

Best mob movie ever. The book (Wiseguy) was great, too.
The one thing I always wonder about is that in both the film and the book-- and the two aren't exactly the same-- Henry Hill never actually kills anyone; I just always wonder if that's just because he's telling the story or if it's really the way things happened.

I read the book too. I don't recall it being called wiseguy though. :\
Anyway, I think Henry never killed anybody. I remember he was assigned to kill someone by Jimmy but he never really got to it. Who knows maybe he did. I'd really like to stress how great a job Scorsese did bringing the element of mob mentality to the movie. You felt bad when Henry betrayed Pauly and Jimmy. Especially Jimmy.

Did you read a novelization of the film or the original true crime story? Even if it was the latter-- which was what I was talking about-- they may have rechristened it for a new printing after the film became so popular, but Wiseguy was the original title.
And you may be right about Henry, but I just wonder because it was him telling the story.
As for Pauly and Jimmy, I know what you mean, but I always thought it pointed out a basic flaw in the criminal mentality. Remember, Henry never thought at all of ratting them out until they made it clear that they were going to kill him and Karen. I always think as I watch that part of the movie that all Pauly had to do that day in the restaurant was hug Henry and tell him he'd stand by him and mean it to still be walking free today.
Well, until the late '80s when he died anyway. :rotfl:
Another thing I wonder about is Jimmy. Did he die in prison? If not, what happened at his parole hearing last year?

I have no idea actually!!! And I've been wondering about that!!!
It would be interesting to see what Jimmy would do.
I've read Wiseguy. I went online to find the booktitle (the one I had read) and it was in fact wiseguy. Great book.
They took a lot of stuff from the book to the movie. (I mean besides the story)
The whole f-ck you pay me thing.

It would be cool if they let him out and then caught him in the next few months stalking DeNiro or Scorsese because he didn't like how he was portrayed in the film.
An 80-year-old man in the bushes outside someone's home-- hysterical! :rotfl:

It was excellent, too, Jellie. Most reviews I've ever read about the film start with what a great soundtrack it had.

It was perfect in my opinion. Cream Derek and the Dominos. Gotta love Clapton.
Tony Bennet.
Good call Jellie.

When I think of my favorite movies this one is quick to come to mind. If I'm channel surfing on TV and I come across it, I always stay on that channel until the movie's over. It's very addicting.

Scorsese is a genius. Too bad he's never won an oscar.:\

I like "Snatch" and "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" more...
They're not extreme mob movies but they're both about a group of criminals fighting against each other and working for crime boss's except both movies are funny as well:lol:
