avatar lessons

i was wondering if anyone wanted to give me some insight into making an awesome avatar.

like how do you make a moving avatar of pictures or of a scene, ...stuff like that.

i have Adobe Photoshop CS2 and wondered if the program is good enough to make the moving avi's and just little stuff like that.

all helpful little insights are appreciated :)
