View Full Version : Major Weirdness

This is probably the weirdest thing!!!

I used to have 10111 posts, and now I have 9985. Now this isn't that much of a difference, but this happened to me also when I barely registered.

What's even weirder, I still have the custom title from when I reached the 10000.

Anybody else have this problem?

Mods any help?:)

Disco

A certain member was completely removed from the board which included all posts and threads made. Therefore if you had posted in any of the threads they created then your posts were lost as well.

There also could have been other purgings last night.

I would let them know... it's not your fault... you deserve to have the custom text. They might be kind enough to let you change it if you're tired of what you've got already.

I don't mean to be rude, but why didn't somebody think about this eventuality before you all decided to completely remove "Mr. X" or whoever he/she is from the board? I'm not upset about this, but it does seem pretty unfair, especially for people that lost hundreds or even a thousand or more on their post count.

Is there any way to reverse what you all did?

Disco

I don't think they knew it could affect other members.

There is no way to reverse it. If it matters that much to someone they can contact an Administrator with the post count they last had and maybe it will be put back.

Can I just guess? I can't remember exactly how many I had, but it was close to 2500.

Also, who exactly should I contact? I don't want to be a nuisance, and since you've posted this publicly, it seems like the Administrators might get flooded with PMs.

Maybe an administrator will venture into this forum and check out the thread. If they are willing... maybe they will contact you. If not.... who cares if they get flooded with PM's... they broke it... they should fix it.

I'm curious though, if this "Mr. X"'s banning had an effect on people's post count, ranging from as little as 100 to 1000's, how in the heck did that happen? He/she/it must have been a VERY frequent member or something.

Sharkie
06-12-2005, 12:17 PM
If they just banned the member then nothing would effect post counts. They must have completely removed that member name from the database. And I have a pretty good idea who it is.

That's 6000 posts down the drain.

My only guess is that the person who was completely removed from the board must have started threads in which a lot of us posted in. By removing the member totally it removes their posts. Any threads they've created are removed as well. But being that this member only registered here back in March I don't see how it can affect so many posts.

I don't think it matters who the person is but won't say anyway.

I saw the thread that Alice made and it was aweful and it did nothing to that other board that she was pimping exept make it look bad. I too think that it had something to do with her banning, most banned users' posts remain, maybe edited, but remain, she was completely erased, posts and all, probably because she spouted off that thread in like EVERY FORUM on this site. I too think that her erasure had the unexpected effect of altering everyone's post count, and will probably not be able to be corrected unless they have some sort of backup where they can delete her posts one by one or something, doubt it though.

That's just it F-Stop, we have no way of really knowing if it was only one poster who was deleted since admin hasn't responded to our thread. At this point, I would think we are talking about much more than one person, because personally, I have no idea who this Alice Perrin person is. If that many of my posts were deleted due to her, I would assume her name would at least be vaguely familiar. I'm guessing there were several posters deleted.

This is getting weirder.

I check a thread that was posted here when Craig needed to purge old threads to make more room back in February. It seems that the individual post count was not affected... just the board's overall post counter.

I guess it could depend on how the threads were purged. Through the boards Administrative system or by someone just using the Delete button.

It could be this is something nobody has an answer for.

There are actually threads that are long-closed, but still there: they sometimes DON'T show up when you search for them. If you know you posted in them, you can find them by going through your post history.

HOWEVER, THE ORIGINAL KGI HAS BEEN DELETED COMPLETELY. It's not in my post history at all. Gimp's Island, OOC, and Sleepover threads, etc. are all intact, but the original KGI was deleted.

DISCO brings up a good point, though. The date and time of the most users active is the DAY BEFORE DarkseidX posted this thread. I wouldn't be surprised if the board was hacked or infected.

Makes me really sad that I wasn't around back then. :(

Oh well, life goes on... :)

I'm almost possitive the original Wah/KGI thread is still on the board. It's just not in a place where you guys can see ;). Even if it was removed... I know for sure I didn't post 5000 times in it.

I really think we had some sort of attack on the board.

It actually makes sense if we had an attack on the board. Its the best theory I have heard so far Disco

It's the only thing that makes sense.

This sounds reasonable.

If on that day, of 06-07-2005 at 10:38 PM there was 1598, there was bound to have been some kind of attack on the site.

I don't see how the most users online being that high could make us lose posts...

You know... if it weren't for us regular members nobody would have even known something happened. Who's running this board?

Do the Administrators... whichever ones bother to even show up care about their members anymore?

Wow... JC is actually on the board. Last time he posted here was 11-21-2004.

And Sully.... last time she was here was 10-15-2004.

Clari Clyde... last time here was 05-25-2004.

Chiri is around but only bothers with the Chlois thread.

Why are they staff members if they're not here or don't do anything?! Well we need someone to control this place.

I'm upset about losing posts too, guys, but there is not much that I, as a moderator, can do to help in this situation. Awareness has been raised among the other moderators, and it seems here we've all come to the same conclusion that there was possible technical error/hacking involved. If any other information was found, I'd be the first to tell you here. If you are that devastated about a low post count and remember something in the vicinity of your old number, I'm sure Craig (KryptonSite) will help you out if you politely PM him. But for now... Can we just let it go? :\

Sure thing ILTW i guess there is no point going on and on about the same thing.

But I like to complain......

Thanks ILTW :)

You're the only staff member that bothered to respond personally to this thread. It's just too bad that the "others" don't feel that their members are important enough. I'm not complaining about the lost posts. I could care less. My only complaint is the Administrations lack of concern for it's very own members. The least any of them could have done was make a simple comment in this thread.

Well now I feel like crud, I started this thread thinking to myself, "What the heck??? I lost about 200 posts!!!"

Then I find out some of you guys lost from 5000-7000 posts!! Hope you can regain those posts back guys.:)

Ditto on that. ILTW, I really appreciate that you checked out the thread even though you had no idea what was going on! :)

And don't feel like crud, Darkseid. Either way, it doesn't really matter. Post count, shmost count. Just as long as we can still have fun... :)

Sigh. I'm with Mark here. I do like to complain (especially since I can't change my user text any more unless I PM someone, and I honestly don't feel like I should bother). I guess I'll just have to post a lot, huh? ;)

I still hold my complaint against the board administrators. The only ones who seem to actively be doing their jobs on the message board is ILTW and Big Al. It seems as if the only way to get a response from the Admins is if we make a big stink about something.

This board might be smelling bad pretty soon.... http://www.boomspeed.com/discodelic/shithitsthefan.gif
