View Full Version : The Kryptonite Eyes in China

I just had a thought; they never explained why the stone/element in China was guarded by a statue with Kryptonite eyes - the same statue that Lex took back with him to his mansion.
Assuming that the kryptonite was placed there by Kryptonians...would it be reasonable to think that it was placed there to guard against any other Kryptonians out there, e.g. Zod and his henchmen? And also, knowing how Clark's original baby ship neutralizes kryptonite, could one also say that if he hadn't destroyed his ship, it could have been used to help him retrieve the stone in China? Or am I just giving the Smallville writer's too much credit for foresight?

While I like your theory about Clark's ship, you probably are giving the writers too much forsight.
I believe the discussion on this topic after Sacred aired was that maybe Kryptonians were making sure that other Kryptonians stand back so that they can see the map the way Clark did, which allowed him to see that it was a tree, etc.
Also, more recent discussions about the effects of Kryptonite have brought up theories that as Kryptonite was supposed to be the core of Krypton, perhaps Kryptonians mined for it like humans do for diamonds, and they wore them as jewelry. this would make sense if Kryptonite was not harmful under the red Kryptonian sun, but only under our Sun. Therefore, maybe the eyes of the statue were merely decoration, and the sun's effect on the eyes were not immediate, so they were able to install the statue, and then leave it without knowing it was harmful.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for your reply. It makes sense, yet I always was under the impression, from past comics, that Kryptonite was created by the intense pressure of the exploding planet causing the rocks to compress and eventually make them radioactive and thus harmful to Kryptonians...essentially the only surviving one, i.e. Clark. I don't know if your theory is just a reinterpretation made in the newer comics - but I like it just the same.

Yeah I was just saying that by mining it that would be the only plausible reason for kryptonite to have been on earth before Krypton exploded. I think I put a whole explanation of it in a different post about why Lex had the statues in his mansion.

I don't think anyone mined Kryptonite...remember when Dr. Hamilton was researching the meteor rocks? He said that it was unlike anything ever before seen on Earth. It holds traces of the element krypton, because it comes from the planet Krypton.

No, I meant that Kryptonians mined it while they still lived on Krypton. Not that humans mined them on earth.
