When I hear the intro to While my guitar gently weeps, I tear up. I know it's been years since George Harrison died, but I still mourn him.
Twist and Shout it really improved the song, gave it more of an edge. And A hard days night. It was just one long chord, but it sucked you in.
Revolution by the Beatles - John's guitar sounds like some sort of attack siren, followed by a throat-tearing scream by Paul. Gives me chills. I also love Paul's countdown at the beginning of I Saw Her Standing There
The intro to The Who's "Pinball Wizard".
Money - Pink Floyd(I love the sound of the coins and cash register)
U2's Veritgo- "Uno dos tres cartorse!"

Don't know if anyone knows these or agrees, but I pick two songs. The beginning of the "Phantom of the Opera" theme song (from the movie soundtrack) and "The Lonely Shepard" by Zamfir (ending credits song from 'Kill Bill-Volume1)
Also, this ambient song "Shadow Magnet"...it's like a lady singing kinda arab or something in the beginning.

Although I'm not into grunge, the best intro EVER has to be the start of: SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT by Nirvana...wicked start.

Cant argue with that , i hate that type of music but that intro was something special

Are all of you serious?
Smells Like Teen Spirit a good intro? Pathetic I would call it. Al it is power chords. I dont see what's so miraculous about it. It's a good song, maybe one of the most overplayed songs too.
But to say it has a good intro, that's like saying Truth Hits Everybody by the Police has a good intro. Which it doesn't. Power Chords like the ones Nirvana plays doesn't make a good intro.
Now it;s different in the case of Jimi Hendrix who doesn't play power chords, but rather manipulates the distortion to make sounds that are beautiful. Take Little Wing for Example, probably the best intro of all time. It's so harmonic and mellow, and then he breaks into something new.
It's like a story almost. So I say no to Nirvana's intro.
VersesBatman
05-29-2005, 02:19 PM
Well it is to us. A good intro is one that makes you excited. "A hard days night" just had one loud chord, but it made it's point.
One man's pathetic is another man's cool. :D

05-29-2005, 02:22 PM
I guess you all have the right to say it's a good intro, but I think you have to say that what made the beggining good was the fact that the entire song could keep that energy going. You what I'm saying?
VersesBatman
05-29-2005, 02:26 PM
I think it does. Whenever Smells like teen spirit comes on, I dance around the house from start to finish. So, therefore it is a good intro for me.

The intro is alrite I thought.

BTW I love Clapton. I think the Best Intro by Clapton was probably White Room. So classic. It has the operatic singing in the background and then all of a sudden he just bursts in. It's very melodic.
I Feel Fine by the Beatles is also a good intro.
Sleepwalk and I love her and Blue Moon by Santo & Johnny are great intros.

The fifties offered a lot of bands like Buddy Holly and the Stray Cats, but they weren't popular. Sure Elvis was great but he didn't have a band. It was all about him.
The Beatles were the founders pretty much of Boy Band.

When I saw the thread for this, the 1st thing I thought of was Smells like teen spirit, that's why I posted it. So can't be that bad.

Dire Straits "Money for Nothing" is a very simplistic, and yet very powerful intro. We not always need an orchestra opening to give the song character. Sometimes a simple electric guitar does the trick and more.
Metallica's "Enter Sandman" is a favourite but Im not sure its the actual notes or its because its an ultimate classic.
ZZ Top's "La Grange" is another great example of a simplistic approach.
Thats My modest contribution.

Hey this is to all those who were giving me a lecture, I didn't say it was a bad song. In fact I said it was a good song. But I dont see how it being a good song gives it a good intro. That doesn't make sense.
The intro is short, made of power chords, and it sucks. I dont see what is so GOOD about the intro to Smells Like Teen Spirit? It's less than like 15 seconds. And besides it takes no talent to play that intro. On the other hand, when you compare this intro to other intros like One by Metallica or Under the Bridge by the RHCP or Crazy on You by Heart, Smells like Teens Spirit is nothing.

Aww, I luv that song. 'Specially for when I run.
Plus, it's from Trainspotting, so, it always reminds me of Renton finally ditching his loser friends in the end, but leaving a little stash of cash behind for Spud. ^_^
To add to the dance music, I have to say BT's Never Gonna Come Back Down. Mostly 'cause it stuck in my head right now. :P
