Well, in elementary school, I was in some plays [no famous ones, tho]. But, I live in West Palm Beach, and heard from my mom's friend [who is in plays...she plays the ghost of the grandmother in "Fiddler on the Roof] that they are looking for people for that play and also, they're thinking of opening up some other plays here. I would love to be a part of them. The classes are free! Do any of you gals and guys know if you are required to 'know' how to sing or just act? BTW, you're all lucky, 'cos I was usually one of the ones to be in the back ground...I was so shy:p .

Darkseid- Really? So you barely got into theater huh?

Yah i did start kinda late. ive been doing it for 3 years, and i know thats pretty small but it shouldnt matter how long you do it, just how good you are and based off the roles youve done, and if you look at my list ive done some pretty good ones. I hope that i can get into a college where I can be a film or theater major.

Forties, actually. Lerner and Loewe wrote the score -- same guys who wrote the score for "My Fair Lady." (I know a lot about the musical because Gene Kelly, one of my idols, was in the movie version in 1954. His "Heather on the Hill" and "Almost Like Being in Love" can make me drool all over the carpet. :p )

You guys are so lucky to have done all this theater! My high school had virtually no theater program, and my college's wasn't all that great. In college one year, we did this "operetta" by the theater director's wife. The story was kind of a cross between "West Side Story" and "Beneath the Planet of the Apes." I'm still trying to block out the memories. :lol:

Not to be a breaker of dreams or anything, but if you've only done theater for 3 years, you're still very green. I thought I was the most kicka** actor my freshman year of high school just cause I had been in musicals all of my childhood. And then I suddenly entered a new world of acting.

I learned so many new things. Method acting, psychological, mental, physical.

Body language, body chemistry, word chemistry.

I learned about different methodists and how to properly discpline myself to be a good actor.

It's gonna be tough as he** to find a good college to go to. I was accepted into Skidmore but I heard they're too easy and lenient on their ability to teach so I decided to go to USC. They have a great theater department. And so does UCLA.

As a person, I advise you to try and extend your drama classes to extracuricular activities so that you may further develop your knowledge of the theater.

And it really does matter how long you've been doing it, you gain experience with each role you play, big or small. It doesn't matter if you were Macbeth or Pinocchio, you teach yourself to be different personalities.

yeah. Im looking at columbia-chicago, northwestern, mizzou, and maybe Missouri st., here in springfield. I already know some methodists like stanislavski, of course, and Dantchenko and some others. Im also in drama club and thespians society and we might make an improv club which i may join

I studied drama aswell in college and have a Btec. in Performing arts. I have loved theatre and the art's all my life though.

Acting is not about the big roles you do, it is about how well you do the role you have. Even a small role can make an impression if you are good.

I've been in loads of things playing main roles and small parts. Also I've got involved in the backstage stuff to, as that is just as much fun.

I wanted to teach English and drama, but I got married and had family and all that, so it's something I may go back to. I mainly work with my Chruch drama group now, working on sketches for services and outreach.

Some of the stuff, I've been in (can't remember them all)

In no particular order.

Rumplestiltskin = Narrater
Call of the Piper = Gilda
Oliver = Chorus
Brigadoon = Chorus (Sharkie, I know what Brigadoon is too :p)
On Golden Pond = Chelsea
The Cherry Orchard = Dunyasha
Murder with intent = (can't remember the name of the character, but I played the daughter)
Showstoppers, Songs from the musicals. I sang Phantom of the opera in duet and an old war song "I'll think of you" solo and sang with the rest of the chorus.
Grease = Backstage
Bugsy Malone = Bronx Charlie.
King of Kings = One of the 3 angels.
Death of a Salesman = Linda Loman
Abigails Party = Angela
Romeo and Juliet = Nurse
Macbeth = 2nd witch
Pirates of Penzance = Chorus
Conversations with a Golliwog = Canny

And lots of roles in skits and sketches.

So do any of you know anyone from "the biz" or have you ever tried to break into it? I also can direct a bit, and write some, so thats also a plus.

I know a he** of a lot of people from the biz. But that's from all the freaking shows I've done. People've seen me after the productions and left there phone #'s half of them I still haven't called. Why? Because I dont want to sound like some desperate prom date or something.

I act for the love of the theater, not for the money or the fame. I could care less how famous I get, so long as I'm doing what I'm best at.

I knew Robbie Wiliams (the singer) before he was famous. We were in Oliver together. He played Dodger.

I don't care for being famous either. I just enjoy performing arts, for it's value in my life. It's my gift and I love it and I'm thankful for it. I think that's why I'd like to teach it, because I'd love to be able to nurture someone else who has a gift for it.

I once saw a performance of Gilbert & Sullivan's "H.M.S. Pinafore" & the singer proped his foot up on a log that was lining the stage & it rolled & he rolled & fell flat on his back & landed under the piano. He just kept on singing his solo underneath the piano. When his song was over, he just got up & acted like nothing happened.

I'm sure it hurt, but he was a trooper.

I remember when I was in doing Play by Samuel Becket that all three of the actors forgot their lines. And I literally had read the rest of the story. (they had me be the narrator of the story kind of.

And once back when I was doing the Wizard of Oz, when we were at Emerald City and we had to start the Land of Oz song, the gates to city didn't lift up so the Guard, Dorothy, Lion, Scarecrow, and Tin Man had to make up their own dance. Actually the actors I was working qith were really proffesional about it and just followed along with my dance. Improvising is much fun.

I wish one day I can be a part of Wicked... but for now, I've just been in Preformances that mix songs from brawdways. I did "the girl I mean to be" from the Secret Garden when I was 12, and "My New Philosophy" from You're a Good Man Charlie Brown just last year.
