Looking back on it, the only way Jor- El was able to start the whole process of uniting the stones, was by forcing Clark to enter the phantom zone. After Clark came back as Kal-El (during the season 4 premiere), he realized that he must
"fulfill his destiny" (which was gathering three stones to save earth.) When Jor-El told him (during Commencement) that by denying his heritage (all season) he put both Earth and himself in danger of being destroyed, Clark realized what he had done. I think TPTB did an excellent job with this storyline, and I look forward to the Season 5 premiere. Furthermore, I hope that season 5 starts off much like season 2 premiere (with no time having elapsed.)
