I just think he knows hwo to read the symbols now. He was uploaded with the alphabet the sameway CLark was uploaded with it when he stuck the key in the cave wall in Rosetta.

If it is true and he has been uploaded with the kryptonian alphabet then why didnt they show all the symbols they had the time to do it.

I think these letters were chosen for a reason i just dont know what yet.

Well, the doctor what's his name (the world renowned linguist or something) had the same thing before the cataracts didn't he? Maybe i am just pulling that out of no where, but he could also read the symbols before he was deep fried. Maybe Lionel will have a short stint of powers or something. Once again just a thought. Just my humble opinion.

Had time? yeah... I'm sure they had to waste by showing us 26 different kryptonian symbols as they scroll by. That wouldn't have been a waste, especially so close to the end of the episode. The main thing they were trying to get to was the ending scene. why linger on Lionel's eyes?

I highly doubt TPTB expected us to freeze those couple of frames and see what symbols were in his eyes. It happened so quick that I can almost guarantee they were just random letter, meaning to show us that he is being uploaded with the language and maybe even the knowledge of some of the stuff in the caves.

The letters that you guys saw werent meant to be taken literally.

But hey, knock yourself out... anf if you DO find something, I'll be ther first one to admit I was wrong.

Your absolutely right. I was going to mention that but didnt. What happened to Walden is what I believe happened to Lionel, minus the going crazy and the special powers. Also, Lionel wont make the same mistake Walden made, which was mis interpreting the cave walls and thunking they said that Clark will destroy everybody.

Looks random to me, although I've seen that different people came up with different letters than I did when I pulled it out.

BUT, although it might look random and you can't imagine why they'd make it so quick if they wanted you to dwell on it... think back to Memoria. The letters swirling around in the ship spelled out Jor-El's message, the one about leading them with strength, yada yada yada, and it was also very fast... and the message was shown only partially on each line of text, so it had to be pieced together, but it WAS Jor-El's message, pretty much word for word. So these writers are sneakier than you might think, and are always throwing stuff out there for the geeks (present company excepted, of course) to play with. I'm almost sure these letters will mean something, I'm just no good at anagrams. That's why I gave up on the ESP's after the first 4. lol

So the odds are good that it means something. But for all we know it could be coded. Like A=Z B=A C=B D=C etc. Without the key or a long enough message there is no chance of translation.

Good point about memoria, but that was just a way to give us some continuity. Thats actually one of the better examples of continuity, one I had forgotten about.

With Lionel's eyes though, I think it was just a way to show us that he'd been d/l with kryptonian knowledge.

Just a theory of mine, but I think Lionel will end up becoming a good guy by the end of the series, someone who knows about Clark, but also realizes that if it wasnt for Clark and him switching bodies, his liver never would have been cured, so he won't exploit Clark. I think that Lex will eventually kill lionel by series end and this will be huge step in him embracing his dark side. Just a theory.

Also, are there different Kryptonian alphabets? I recently read "Batman/superman - Supergirl" which includes a key for the alphabet used in the story. But it is not (exactly) the same symbols as are used in Smallville. That story was written by Jeph Loeb who obviously has a major creative role in SV so if anything that would seem to be the best comparison.

So since the above translations are based on the DC comics websites alphabet, how can we be sure they are correct? The best way would be to compare against the other translated samples from SV (the "Kal-El last son of Krypton" message that Dr Swann translated for example) and see what comes up.

Has anyone done this? I'm too lazy.
