At the end of the season, we see each of the characters acting in a role relevant to Clark Kent's destiny. Let's examine these roles and how they are being carried out though the final episode.

Clark Kent - Hero/Warrior/King/Paladin: Has come to accept that he has a mission and a destiny. He understands that this destiny is not a curse, but a charge put upon him, because of who he is. Clark will no doubt lean the difference between being a slave to his destiny and a willing servant of that destiny.

Ma and Pa Kent - Druidic Priest & Virgin mother: Value Giver/Protector/Nurturer: Morally absolute, the Kents' midwest, God Fearing lifestyle promote a culture of stewardship and instill this value into Clark Kent. They proctect his secret and (in some cases) the percieved danger of his destiny.

Jor el - God/Quest Giver: Cold and absolute in his charge to Kal el, there is no excuse to disobey, there is no reason to question this destiny.

Chloe Sullivan - Peer Disciple/Encouragement: This season Chloe has taken a more relevant role in CK's destiny. She is able to encourage Clark, and to more gently push him into his destiny than the Kents or Jor el because her awareness of CK's gifts are shrouded and because her encouragement is unhindered by any of the parental, protective instincts.

Lex Luthor - Power/Influence/Ambition: Sin: Lex, from the first time we met him, has embodied the vain characteristics of humanity's failings. His wealth and relative youth promote his indulgence in activites and ambitions that encourages original sin.

Lionel Luther - Converted Sinner/disciple: After the transferance, his conversion, Lionel now understands what true power is and how foolish and trivial is man's ambition. Earthly gains pale in comparison to a greater calling.
