View Full Version : Where was Chloe's dad?

This has been bugging me all season, but it seemed particularly grating tonight; where is Chloe's dad, Gabe?
There was a minor reference a few episodes ago to Chloe living in a one-room apartment now (implied with her dad), but he hasn't been shown or directly mentioned all season. That's fine and all, because there was never really a situation that warranted seeing him (besides the beginning of the season, when we should have found out what happened to him after the safehouse explosion). But tonight was his daughter's graduation... it seemed strange that they didn't even give us an obligatory 'crowd-reaction' shot of him cheering her on.

Wendy I know what you mean. I was saying that a couple of days ago, how Gabe better be there, or make some mention of him... but like we'd actually get some logical continuity.
What I was the most ticked about was that Chloe didn't even get to get her "diploma" (um, in the real world PTB, graduates don't get rolled up paper... they get hard cover folders and the actual diploma gets mailed to you) and make the walk. So yet again, she gets screwed out of enjoying a once-in-a-lifetime moment.

Thank you, Wendy and Chlarklove!!!!!!!!!!
I was SO mad that A) Gabe was no where to be found. We should have seen him at graduation, and again while Chloe had her car packed up. Gabe has ALWAYS been displayed as a very loving, protective father of Chloe. No way he would have evacuated the city without making SURE that Chloe was with him, instead of going back into SV with Lois. That was just terrible writing. Even if they couldn't get the actor for the episode, he should have been mentioned, like "We have to hurry up because when my dad realizes I'm not right behind him in my car, he'll come back to look for me" or "thank goodness I convinced dad that graduation isn't important and that he should go into Metropolis today for that interview!" I mean, SOMETHING!!!! That was crap writing.
Also, I'm with you about Chloe's diploma. I was so ticked off when the military interrupted right before Chloe could get her diploma. I saw it as just another way for AlMiles to do what they do best: Kick Chloe in the crotch. Also, we had spoilers or it was mentioned in earlier episodes, whatever, that Chloe was validictorian. I was hoping to see at least a tiny bit of her speech, maybe with her making some reference to "fulfilling your potential" and how some people "are destined for greatness" while pausing for a meaningful glance at Clark. After everything that's happened with them this season, I thought that would have been highly appropriate, but instead, we see Clark and Chloe at graduation with Clark whining because Lana's not there, and then Clark pimping on stage and the military busting in before Chloe got her diploma (while her dad was nowhere to be found). Nice. You suck, tptb. ~Karie

Lex may be evil but my god he doesn't deserve that! I'm just shocked that people would want a great character like Lex to be bogged down with Lana just so they can get Clark and Chloe together. Poor Lex.:( Don't doom him to this miserable fate...

I have a solution. Lana and Lois should elope together on a 'very special episode' of Smallville, thus eliminating the show's two biggest annoyances in one fell swoop.

Possibly they'll mention him, but inexplicably change his name because the writers forgot what it originally was.
I anticipate a heartwarming premiere where Chloe gets a tearful sendoff to college from her father, Lorenzo, who is a marine biologist...

I think that Lexana will be more Lex lusting after Lana and sabotaging any other love intrest she has *cough cough* Jason* cough cough* while Lana wants nothing to do with Lex. I think it would be a step down from the Lex character however I don't think that just because Lex lusts after Lana that Clark and Lana won't still have the hots for each other. So dispite my misgivings Clana will continue regardless of feelings Lex has for Lana.

See, I really hate that scenario you've thought up. It makes Lex seem so petty and smallminded.:( I would absolutely hate to see this next season. Talk about diminishing a great character just so Al and Miles can get their Lana-worship kicks.

I don't disagree with you MB I love the Lex character. One of those reasons was he was the most complicated and dynamic character on the show. But if Lex has totally gone evil then I think the only dynamic change left for him is the romantic one. Making him more evil is just stupid. Of course so is reducing him to Clarks favorite sport of Lana Lusting.

Yeah, that sounds like something idiodic that TPTB would do. BTW, I got my diploma actually at graduation, inside a leather folder with the name of my school engraved on the outside. It was nice :)
And I also wondered, for a few weeks now, about Nell and Henry attending graduation. I figured that TPTB would be retarded and not include or mention them. (So stupid... surely Nell would drive down from Metropolis to attend the graduation of her adopted daughter). But, I saw this coming a mile away. But I NEVER thought they'd cut Gabe out, that's just retarded. Does anyone know if the actor is doing something else right now that prevents him from being on SV? Or maybe he grew attached to his TV daughter, Allison Mack, and got fed up with how her character gets kicked in the teeth every episode, and went on a protest of the show? Hmmm...
I hope he's back next season. He's my second favorite character on this show. Isn't it sad that a small, bit actor who only appears sporadically, is nearer and dearer to my heart than a lot of the major characters?

I agree. One of the reasons why I (and I imagine many others) dislike Lana so much is because of the affect she's had on Clark. Basically, he is portrayed as a complete toolbox when it comes to her, and usually comes off like a shallow idiot because of it. And I hate that, because I adore Clark.
When he's alone or interacting with other characters, Clark is noble, intelligent, and kind. When he's around Lana (or thinking of Lana, or dreaming of Lana, or being chewed out by Lana...), he's a moron. It's irritating in a way that I can't accurately describe and I'd hate to see the same character assassination happen to Lex.

Oh, yes, I definitely agree that Lana brings out the worst in Clark. I would also hate to see this happen to Lex, especially since he does give off a 'dirty old man' vibe sometimes around her. I just don't understand why every guy has to love and cherish Lana, it's so tiresome.:(

I hate the idea that the future Superman, who in this reality is the most noble of all, acts so shallow, selfish, and pretty much every other word you can think of for a bad character flaw, all over this little girl. I mean, once again let me bring up a point that makes me crazy.... Clark was upset when Whitney returned unharmed (seemingly) after being MIA, because it meant his chance with Lana was gone. I mean really, do you see the future Supes acting that childish? I don't care that he's young and immature and hasn't grown into who he will be yet... that's a d***ish way for anyone to react, and I've always expected better from someone who is going to grow up to be my childhood hero! ~Karie

And she's given him such a complex about 'the secrets and the lies! *gasp*' that now he feels like he can't have a normal relationship with anyone. She's like a diabolical vacuum where all logic is sucked away, never to be seen again...

It's obvious that there must have been meteor rocks at the site of the safehouse explosion. The effects of the radiation shrunk Chloe's dad, and now she carries him around in her pocket. Sometimes he knits tiny mittens...

Yes, it does seem a bit odd. However, I have come to expect certain logical situations to be left unattended to by the PTB.
I also did not see any Lexana. However, I did see Lex touch her lovingly, but to no positive response by Lana. Awkward scenes does not a Lexana make.

Sadly, I didn't kind that much about Nell or Dean coming back for graduation.
But I would have loved to seen Pete if his new school's graduation was on a different day. I really wanted to see Gabe. I Chloe and Gabe have been through so much together. Think about it. The problems with her mother, the move to Smallville, the employee buy out, the Lionel situation. This is a relationship that should have been played out on screen.
I agree with whoever said that they find themselves liking some of the minor characters. But then we never see them again. Why couldnt they have a regular gallery of recurring guest stars. That would have been so much fun.
At my graduation we got the fake rolled up ribbon paper diplomas on stage. But after the ceramony we went to another area to get the real leather bonded diplomas. So, every school does it differently.
