Wellings portrayal of a Clark who had never been so scared in his life and yet was so brave was amazing. We saw a quiet strength and poignant determination evolving thru the fear. I loved it!!

Tom Welling rocks. Someone told me they saw him in Toronto at a gas station today. I don't know if it's true. It is a woman, after all, that told me....we all know they can't be trusted.

But seriously, if he's this close and I'm not the one who saw him, I'm gonna be pretty upset.

:rotfl: Preach it, brother!

Actually, I thought Welling fell a little flat today. Erica was outstanding, and Michael was outstanding. Welling did pretty good...but I was left wanting so much more out of this episode.

I thought John Schneider did well. I didnt entirely get AoT's performance but I thought she gave a good effort..

I thought everyone really did a great job. Both Tom and Michael have become outstanding actors.

John Glover and John Schneider both did great jobs, as they usually do.

I thought Annette did a great job as well. Her 'Oh my God, not again!' when the army spoils the graduation and announces the incoming meteor shower really brought me more into the scene. After she said that, I could really feel like 'These poor people are going through this again. Bless their souls.' Then the later scene with her, Schneider, and Welling was remarkable as well.

Collectively it's one of (if not THE) best casts on TV, they ALL rock.

In "Commencement" I see a lot more of TW merging with CR's portrayal in S1. Outstanding performance....

Welling is and outstanding actor. It's great to see how Welling and Rosenbaum both have become terrific actors from season 1 to the finale. They are both phenomenal.

I was blown away by both performances, esp. MR. I always think Tom does a great job, but MR handles obsessive, evil Lex so perfectly. I don't think I can think of a single scene that I was less than impressed with MR's portrayal of a maniacal Lex.

Everyone was great, I was impressed with everyone(and I never say that about Kristin). Everyone rocked in this episode :D

I thought Tom's performance was definitely stellar to say the least. He has managed to embrace this character and feel him rather than recite lines for him. I was stunned at his beautiful work in Commencement. It was perfect.

...Erica was outstanding...

i agree! the scene where she looks out over the damage and the smoke trails left by the meteors was amazing acting. she's not boo-hooing, but you can clearly see the deep, heart-wrenching sadness she feels for this place she has come to call home and the people who live there.

I agree, especially in the scene where he says goodbye to his parents. How sad!

I've been watching the season 1 reruns on ABCFamily and have noticed how much better actors Kristin and Tom have become. Tom used to just stand there and look beautiful (which he's good at) and Lana had this annoying vocal tone with all her lines (like she was singing). Now, they both laugh, yell, get irritated, cry with tears, etc! Kudos to them both!

Tom was phenomenal. He potrayed Superman much better than anyone could. I can feel his emotions right from the begining till the end of the episode. I almost felt like an empath. ;)

Well done, Tom!!!

I thought he was kind of dragging his feet and looking very tired (probably from double shooting with The Fog and all - not getting much sleep.) However, it was might have been good for him that he was tired, because I think it really fit with how Clark was supposed to be feeling in this episode. He was scared out of his wits and almost too petrified to move. I think Welling's performance was not what you would have expected - but it worked out well. We really felt WITH him....what it would feel like to literally have the weight of the world on your shoulders and not to know if you're ready to handle it.

I think Welling has been getting progressively better. Also, I think that Beeman (he was the director, right?) did quite a good job getting good performances out of the actors in this episode.

Maybe she saw me :P I get a lot of people telling me I resemble him. That's how I ended up getting into the show hah

The bit that really got me for Clark was his expression when he puts in the last stone. He's just standing there, not at all wanting whatever it is Jor-El has in store for him. He wants to run away but the way he was raised and everything he's learned he knows he can't. I felt for him.

I loved Tom in this, he's gotten so much better than when he first started...

And Beeman always gets good performances out of everyone!

I loved the acting in Commencement, everyone took it up a notch even KK (whose acting I don't usually enjoy a whole lot).

Hey! Where are the props for Shelby?
Phenomenal job scratching at the door and then fearlessly venturing into that burst of bright light (shades of Close Encounter). Very convincing and Emmy worthy for animal in a supporting role...

Yeah, Welling was pretty good. It's too bad (spoiler warning!) his character dies in the first episode of season five.

Excuse me! I gotta say that that was a totally incorrect assumption about not being able trust women! In fact most girls/women were drawn into the show by the sight of the gorgeous Tom Welling. So if there is anyone in this world that would recognize Tom Welling, it would be the women and the female fans of Smallville and not the men.

Of course, by nature men are easily manipulated, more likely to cheat on someone. But they are also less trustful by nature due to the chemical balance in their brains.

Take that hot shot!

pooh doesn't think trustworthiness is influenced by gender.

"Of course, by nature men are easily manipulated, more likely to cheat on someone. But they are also less trustful by nature due to the chemical balance in their brains."

pooh read some stats (somewhere), but the stuffed one's recollection is that infidelity goes both ways. Don't you watch Jerry Springer?

As to chemical balance in male brains, maybe what was meant was imbalance? Yet, don't women appear to have a higher percentage of depression? It's probably due to dysfunctional relationships with men.

Food for thought.

Tom *yummy* is getting better by the season.

I didn't read Tom's expression as tired, but as extremely grave. Clark knew that he could be unrecognizably transformed or even killed in his search for the elements, so he would have been saying goodbye without being able to actually say it to everyone he loved in that three hour period. There was also the uncertainty of whether his success in his search would save the world, or doom it to one of Jor-El's manipulations. Plus the concern for the physical safety of every Smallvillian, including himself, in the meteor shower. Tom's serious expression and deliberate demeanor seemed just right to me.
