Hey, did anybody else notice that there was a shot of Lionel and it looked like there was all sorts of data in his eyes? What was up with that?

I have no idea why that happened but I suspect it will have something to do with the arc for the next season or something of the sort.

I think it has to do with the ship that arrived. Jor-El warned of a great danger from space that had awoken. Lionel is now a part of that somehow.

Oh yeah, I bet it's definitely going to be part of next season's arc. And what I love about it is that it means that Lionel probably won't get killed off.

Lionel has two tracks next season, in my eyes.
1. Supreme baddie, as was speculated on the forums by several people.
2. Supreme good-guy, aiding Kal-El and possibly whoever arrived in the ship, in their destinies.

If the ship did something to Lionel maybe we wont have any more FOTW's next season!

I might be talkin out my A** here but heres my take

1. supreme baddie- General Zod maybe with friends.

2 Supreme good-guy - Brainiac, but later turns evil and double crosses CK.

Just a guess

I think Lionel will be good guy. I'd love to see a Lex vs Lionel, those guys would make for some tense plot twists. Also, I think that whatever is in the ship will be the villian for the next season.

There are definitely going to be some awesome Lionel/Lex scenes next season. I'm just really happy that Lionel won't be killed off. I was worried about Chloe and Lionel but now I don't think either of them will be killed off so that's cool.

Lionel had the data thing in his eye, because he had the element in his pocket when it exploded and was affected when the crystal came together. I bet it was similar to what happened to Dr. Walden in the cave. On the other hand, this is Smallville, so it may never have any relevence at all.

I am really hoping that whatever is in the ship is going to be a major villian for season 5 and we will see alot less FOTW's and some real continuity.

I dont think it will be ZOD because it is too soon. Unless he appears and battles young CK for a few episodes and then leaves or something and comes back in Superman Returns.

Just a thought.

I just hope he doesnt have powers. Having information...and a little insane would be cool. But please you gave one character with powers dont do it to Lionel too.

I thought the same thing about Walden. It was very similar.

You know what's weird though is that I still haven't been able to figure out if Lionel was good or not. He seemed pretty evil in this episode since he was going to turn poor Lana in, but I just can't figure it out.

(BTW: each of those lines in lionel's eye spell out the same repeating pattern of seemingly random letters:
swntvirepixachfal swntvirepixachfal swntvirepixachfal ... etc )

I think Lionel was wanting the stone to give it to Clark. Someone had a theory he was trying to help Clark, shooting Jason right before he was gonna tell Lex about Clark, and other things. I think he was gonna give it to CK

maybe lionel in the next season will know more about kryptonian stuff...

I just kept gasping to myself, "Lionel can't have the secrets to the universe now, can he?". I don't know why I thought this...
My current theory is that his memory was erased of all suspicions towards Clark. It's not like kryptonian technology is not advanced enough to "sense" that Lionel could lead to the ultimate destruction (not physical) of Kal-El if he even begins to realise what has happened, and hence his mind had to be "reset".
I am talking of a reboot of sorts; it was kind of like his mind rebooted to BIOS and next time he comes around you can see text in his stating something along the lines of, "Welcome to Windows XP. As this is the first time you are running...".

The one thing I do not want to see is Lionel, in some completely incoherent manner, becoming tied to Kal-El and Jor-El in the sense that he has knowledge of anything kryptonian.
I just don't see how having the stone in his pocket could in any way link him to the whole farce. Sure he's had his share of Clark's powers but anyone could have with the aid of the stone , and so this would leave space for the foregone possibility that anyone could have been in Lionel's situation now.

IMO Lionel hasn't been blessed with the knowledge of the universe, I think he would have had to unite all of the stones in order for that to happen.

When the camera cut to Lionel's eyes, I suspected that something similar to what happened to Dr. Walden in S2 happened to him. Maybe after he comes out of the catatonic state, that is if he ever does, Lionel may be able to read the Kryptonian language and/or the symbols on the cave walls.

I think I'm going to rewatch Calling, it seems like it ties in nicely with this.

And did anybody else notice that when Lionel is talking to Lex he says, "The day is coming". Sure, he's talking about Lana, but it's still too much of a coincidence. Definite foreshadowing there.

I love when TPTB use foreshadowing, it reminds me that there is still hope for SV continuity.

That's a nice catch, MBCorp, I didn't even notice.

The kryptonian language in Lionel's eyes can mean a number of different things; we just have all summer to guess what it means...

It is really hard to decide if that was a "movement" of good or evil, and who forced that kryptonian on him. Was it Jor-el, choosing Lionel to help Clark, keep his secret, and protect him from his own son? Or was it Jor-el out of "fatherly/kryptonian duty" or what some may consider "evil" to sort of keep reminding Clark of his true heritage, and not to mess up again? Could it possibly be related to the witch arc (i hope not)? Or could it possibly be some other life form from deep in the stars, wanting to destroy Kal-El and his heritage (Braniac, maybe?) and "downloaded" the information into Lionel? I mean, they did zoom into Lionel's eyes right after they showed Lana staring at the spaceship that had just landed, but who even knows what was in there?? .....

Man, this is going to be a long summer for us Smallville fans.
