I don't think he's dead. Remember in Seasons 2 when that guy was blasted with the beam that gave the knowledge of the kryptonian language to Clark? He was in a coma for a while, due to information overload, but he woke up with all the knowlege(And laser powers to boot!). That's what happened to Lionel. I think he has all the knowledge that was contained in the stones!

My take on Lionel? Here are the clues:

The presence of human blood on the stone activated the ship that Lana found.
Then, Lionel was whatevered by the stone he had, and is in a coma/state of shock.
Finally, when all the stones were reunited in the cave, Kryptonian flashed across Lionel's eyes.

What's that mean? The stones were protected by a defense mechanism. That triggered the ship, which is a program of some sort. The program needs a host. Lionel's seizure was brought on by the stone, which was creating a host for the program it had initiated. So now that the ship landed, I have a feeling it will be controling Lionel, and when Clark comes back and defeats the ship, Lionel will die.

Who does Lana and the ship fit in? Not too sure over that, other than the program mind-whammies her a bit and uses her to hide the ship.

Yes, I think that's very likely what's going to happen. I only hope that Lana doesn't get posessed by whatever's in the ship, ala Isobel. :p

I think Lionel is just like Dr. Walden, he has all the knowledge to read the kryptonian language, he knows all about Clark, and will awaken in the second episode of Season 5. Will Lionel be a villian for Clark, or help him? Why was lionel given the knowledge when he wasn't connected to the caves or Clark? Maybe because of Transference and because the water stone burned him so bad, that it stained him enough to give him knowledge when they were united. Really cool that Gough and Millar are keeping him involved!!!!!

I'm going with this theory. I like it a lot and it makes sense (to me).

Lionel seems to be in a coma very similar to what Walden was in. He just needs time to process the information. He won't die like that. It would be a very bad way for him to die. I would much rather have Lex kill him to show us just how far he will go now that he has embraced his destiny.

I hope he'll have more screen time and storyline than he did this season when he comes back ALIVE. Lionel is one of the (in my opinion THE) most interesting character on the show. They can't kill him yet. IF they did.... *seeths*seeths*glares*glares at TPTB while holding an axe*

well, he made a deal with Swann and Swann apparently had some unexplainable stuff (a device that steals the key from the cave). Then Lionel used the transference stone (twice if you count coming back). His body was healed by Clark and/or the stone. Water stone cleanses (it was probably just Clark). Clark remembered the transference. Lionel should have as well. Perhaps he realized that the stones were meant for Clark. He had one stone and tried to take Lana's. He killed Jason before he released Clark's secret. Now the transference stone has zapped him into a coma with krypto knowledge. I'm hoping its all connected.
