Shakespere in love

Yesterday I went and saw Jumper and I absolutely loved it the only probelm was for me it wasn't long enough. After all the previews it doesn't even go for two hours which is surprising considering that it is a sci-fi. Science Fiction usually has so much to explain that it takes like four five minutes dialogues just to explain how the world works.

It was short and easy to understand even if you find it difficult to keep up with sci -fi. Five stars. I recommend that you catch it when you can.

Shakespere in love

I have to say...LOVE the avatar :D And you're right, he IS the best Mr. Darcy.

I just watched "Becoming Jane". I really liked it. I thought Anne Hathaway's portrayal of Jane Austen was very good.

3:10 to Yuma - I give it a 7/10 mostly for the acting. Russell Crowe was great and Christian Bale brought intensity to what could have been a lackluster good-guy role.

Juno - 7/10; The adoption process went by too smoothly. I was also bothered by how easily Juno was able to find good parents. I also don't like the soundtrack. Other than that, good writing and good acting.

Atonement - 5.5/10. Boring. So boring.

I rewatched the original Matrix. Holy crap talk about forgetting what an awesome movie that was. I can't believe such a quality movie had such crappy sequels. Ah well, just goes to prove that crappy sequels don't effect the original, as The Matrix is still there and still awesome in spite of said sequels.

I recently watched that as well...It truly is AWESOME. Just kicks ass! I didnt hate the sequals, they were more entertainment for me rather than sequels I guess

Midgard... I actually thought the second Matrix was good. The last one just ruined it for me though.Agreed, I loved Reloaded. Revolutions was a big step down though, but it had its moments.

Here's a movie NOT to see everyone: Be Kind Rewind. Stay away at all costs, unless you want to hate yourself for the rest of the day, living in regret of the time you'll never get back watching that garbage...lol

Just watched Gone Baby Gone - thought it was a really good movie. It does raise a lot of questions though, most of them inner questions I suppose. The movie flowed and just kept going so I would recommend it.

I also watched The Nines - which was a decent movie and not at all what I expected.

Horton Hears a Who - 8/10 - A cute movie that is definitely geared towards a younger audience, but is solid and still fun.

You Can Count On Me - 7/10 - Laura Linney and Mark Ruffalo in a moving film that is probably better acted than anything else. Not my kind of movie, but I can see its strengths nonetheless.

Alien vs. Predator 2 - 0/10 - There is literally no reason anyone should watch this ever. There isn't a single redeeming quality about any of its 90 minutes. This film officially ranks up there as one of the worst disasters in motion picture history.

Blue - 5/10 - A French film starring Juliette Binoche. I don't really have anything to say about this film. It's French. Very French. (although now that I think about it, the director might be Polish)

Ok - I watched

Atonement - which was just a sad, long, dull movie about lost love -
Silk - which was just a sad, long, dull movie about lost love

Arrghhhh - ok, maybe SOME people like those kinda movies but I'm not a super fan of them to be honest. Sure, I like love stories as much as the next girl but why do people like to watch movies about love that is lost? I mean the whole point of movies is to escape into another world - why would you want to go to that world? I guess if you have the love of your life already you'd probably just appreciate that person more I guess...... I suppose lol......

Movies aren't always about escaping and it being fun. Sometimes movies are about intense emotions, even the negative ones, and exploring those emotions. Sometimes they're about making a statement. Sometimes they're even about trying to promote real change in society. And sometimes movies are even about being terrified. If it was all about love stories, while love is great, then many great movies wouldn't exist and many movies would be rendered completely boring.

I was speaking specifically about those types of movies - I understand perfectly well that not all movies are about escaping to a better place etc. I was merely saying for those types of movies it brings up (to me mind you) that I don't really enjoy those types of movies. I prefer to be sucked into the movie and have it create a world (good or bad) I don't want to be bored and sit there wondering why I pushed play. Anyway - to each their own.

Catwoman for example, is an example of a 0 movie for me.Yeah Halle Berry seemed wrong for the part...but I wouldn't give that movie a 0 either, heh. I'm a fan of the genre. Plus I loved Birds of Prey back when it aired, and this had qualities like it.

For something to be a total '0' for me, it has to be terrible the whole way through, not just terrible overall. If I liked anything about a film, even a single scene or moment, then it's not a zero. Anyway that's just the way I see things.

In the Smallville section, I see people give genuinely great or at the very least decent Smallville eps '1 out of 10' ratings, and their explanations for their terrible scores usually have to do solely with their own personal tastes or preferences not being met, things not happening the way they wished would happen based on their own pre-conceived notions and things like that. A lot of the time, even a single scene or a few scenes not being liked is enough for them to totally write off an episode as a total 0 (or 1). A Chlark shipper/Chloe lover, for example, might write off an episode simply for Chloe not being in it, for something bad/sad or "mean" happening to Chloe, or if Clark gets romantic with somebody who ISN'T Chloe, like with Lana (ESPECIALLY Lana, lol). It's funny to see how some people's brains work, or don't work. heh

Finally had a chance to watch to watch The Prestige and The Illusionist. Both were awesome, but I personally preferred The Prestige more.

The ending of The Illusionist was a bit cheesy and typical, unlike The Prestige. I know people don't like to compare the two as similar plots, but you gotta admit it. They're not that different.

Oh and I watched Fight Club a month back. Fantastic movie. :D

I'll say. The prequels alone beat the LotR trilogy in ratings.

Lexgirl33
04-14-2008, 07:58 PM
I read that *is a little sad* LotR i think got less ratings probably cause the movies are so damn long. I am trying to make up excuses here  Anyhow SW is a true classic that came way before the LotR films were made. I mean really, SW should beat out LotR, it was basically a start of a new era :D I personally like the prequals but watching the 3 original was like my childhood all over again. I also really like how they added Anakin at the end of Return of the Jedi.

The one excuse they made for LotR was that it won Academy Awards

I saw 21 last week and it was a good movie. Could have moved a bit faster imo but overall it was a decent movie and was entertaining.

Also saw:
Lars and the Real Girl - could have been a lot more interesting
Dan in Real Life - cute movie but was expecting it to be funnier
Seeker: The Dark Is Rising - could have been a good movie but felt like massive chunks of the story were missing to make it flow.

Ratatouille - not bad, not one of my fav Pixar films. But I did think it was cute
Running Scared - really not what I was expects, lots of crazy stuff in the movie but it was entertaing
Santa Clause 3 - watched it for the hell of it and wasn't too impressed. The first one was decent but the last two were ugh.

I recently watched an older movie called Foolproof, it stars Ryan Reynolds, he and his freinds play a game of stratagy about pulling heists, their plans are stolen and they are forced to pull off a crime and get out alive.

Went to see Narnia this weekend..... ok can I just say that I was bored to high hell. I was expecting a lot of battles and just something more than what this movie was. It was a lot of talking, a lot of men trying to see who's better, it lacked the moral of family from the first movie and it was just all around a blahhhhhh movie.

So I watched "Shoot 'Em Up" the other night. I thought it was pretty decent movie, if you actually watch for the fun of it and not nitpick details. Although the plot is a bit far-fetched, there were still lots of good scenes with some sweet gun action. The movie was also quite humorous (but cheesy), as some of you might know if you've seen it, such as the sign from the rooftop.

I feel like watching a crime film now ... any recommendations? :p

Just watched Kung Fu Panda today (don't judge me, I am a big fan of animation and animated films :p). Surprisingly, it was quite good, and more hilarious than I thought it would be.

Maybe you're right, but genre doesn't really matter as long as the movie is good, no? :p

I saw "Australia" last night and enjoyed it. It's a little overblown, but fun. Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman were both very good in the lead roles. Cinematography was beautiful and inspiring. An old-fashioned epic set at the start of WWII. 8/10.

I went to see "Punisher: War Zone" opening Friday and it was hella awesome. I liked the 2004 movie, but War Zone surpassed it in every way you can imagine. It was closer to the comic book, and there's action from beginning to end, as well as a very decent story. I'd recommend this if you're looking for a good movie that delivers a lot of action. My rating for this one is 8.5/10.

Yeah, I watched that film too. admittedly, I haven't seen the original movie, but part two was pretty good - I found myself laughing through a lot of it which I found surprising as I didn't know there was going to be so many jokes or hilarious moments. Megan Fox was just the icing on the cake for me, especially those slow-mo scenes!

would you say Bruno is better/funnier than Borat, im curious to see this movie i have never seen Sasha Baron Cohen's Bruno skits in the da ali g show.

j03superbat
07-11-2009, 05:27 PM
I don't think it's better than Borat - I think it's at least as funny, but takes the raunchiness, the OMG factor, and "Was that real?" moments and cranks them up to 11.

Unfortunately some of the scripted bits shamelessly borrows from the plot of Borat and that really took me out of the movie a couple of times.

Agree :) a comedy with men instead of just the usually teenager stuff is good for a change. Also the credits at the end of the movie worth it the whole thing lol

I just saw Sunshine Cleaning with Emily Blunt and Amy Adams, I like it. Good balance between drama and comedy and it has this independent film feeling on it. Emily steals Amy's spot light imo.

^ I saw 500 Days... a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it, too. Though, the ending was a little annoying, but the trailer does right by telling us it's not a love story, I suppose.

I saw Fame last week and omigosh, I LOVED it! It's so feel good and had everyone wanting to dance in their seats, lol. I was in utter awe of all the performers in it, and I know the first one was good, but I think this one is much more appropriate for a modern audience. I don't doubt that I'll be getting it on DVD when it's released.

The new Nanny McPhee movie is cool, I went to see it a couple days ago and, I really like it. It's almost as good as the first movie but, without Colin Firth and Derek Jacobi. It has a great cast tho, Emma Thompson returns as Nanny McPhee and, it stars Rhys Ifans, Maggie Smith and Ralph Fiennes. It's funny and moving, too. It's set in somewhat more modern times than the original that was set in horse-and-cart-era whenever that was, this movie is set in the second world war.

Just saw "Inception".

An amazing movie that tells the complex story well and clearly with a satisfying end. Some moments in it (not that much cgi as you would think) are just amazing. Won't spoil it for you but a fight scene in a hotel hallway has never been done like that!

Actors were all great...Leonardo DiCaprio (was great in "The Aviator"!) and Ellen Page (loved her in "Juno"!) in particular. Also if you've seen Nolan's previous films you are at home with his style and actors (mostly from Batman Begins).

A must see film. 2h 30mins long but you won't be bored a second! Infact, if I could I'd incept a memory to everyone making them want to go watch "Inception" right away!! :D

I finally saw Toy Story 3...IMHO it was the best one of the trilogy. Some of that had to do with how computer animation has developed over the years, the story and the characters. The story has developed properly over the course of the movies; from introducing us to the characters in the first movie, to continuing the misadventures of the toys in the second one and this newest (hopefully not the last) chapter in the series having a lot to do with family and sticking together.

A 4th one is probably inevitable. I think that it would be fitting if they did decided on making a 4th that it end with Andy. He's all grown up with kids of his own that somehow stumbles on the toys once again thus passing them to his kids and coming full circle to a fitting finale to the series.

Well, I just came back from a college break, so I naturally spent it watching television and movies :)

I watched a BUNCH of great films in the past few weeks. Here are a few that stick out and that I highly recommend to you!

127 Hours - Who knew a story about a man with his arm stuck between a cliff and a rock could be so interesting and suspensful??

Inception - No words.

Inglourious Basterds - Well worth your time reading subtitles! That movie is bad-a**

The King's Speech - I've never felt more suspense watching someone speak publicly

Frost/Nixon -Pretty cool little film as well

And as far as my crush on Meryl Streep goes, I watched:

Death Becomes Her - an oldie.... well.... from the early 1990s

and Kramer vs. Kramer - which has become one of my favorite films ever :)

It's a coming of age film so if you're expecting a monster movie going in you'll be disappointed. The "monster" & adults in the film are just backdrops. A better discription would be a homage to Spielberg films.

Saw The Grey and Safehouse this weekend. The Grey was man vs nature. Pretty intense. Safehouse was good, too, with some intense fight scenes. Denzel was in top form. Both were intense and I liked them.
