Well we're back! The other thread was shut down for chatting so please people of this thread, try and keep the chatting to a minimal. I know it gets hard when it comes to the topic of Video Games but you gotta keep the offtopicness in the WAH thread.:)

Anyway, for newcomers, this is as the title says, the Final Fantasy, First Person Shooter and other RPG's thread. I understand that norris orginially made a PSP thread but it was more of who had it kinda thing. If anybody has any questions of game realeases or anything having to do with the PSP, I can help you. (making movies, online gaming, recommendations)

i'm not really sure. a friend of mine played it, said that he liked it but his taste is kind of odd. it was the last one released for psone. i don't think that it sold to well in the u.s. though. i was kind of hoping that someone else had played nine on here and could tell me if it is worth playing or not. of course as cheap as the older titles are now it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to just go get both and see for myself.

Oh yeah I'm sorry.NINE. Good god that was a good game. I'd say that between 10 and 9. They're even.

9 is really really good. IMO. It has this thing where you can combine weapons together to make them stronger. It's definately pne of it's strong points.

The only problem I had with the game, was that I wasn't to crazy about every character in the game being a kid. I kinda like the everyone being an adult kinda thing. Any specific questions?A summary maybe?

about how many gaming hours does nine take to beat if you just go through it without trying to max everyone out before taking on the final boss? also how are the cut scenes graphic wise?

Well...hmmm... I'd say it takes about a week to beat with a few hours each day. I'm guessing a little more than 24 hours. You can really rush yourself.

The graphics are so-so. They're no FF7. But there also no FF6.:p

I'd say that they're pretty decent for PS1 graphics.

Overall I'd give it about a 8/10

i think that i will just pick up both tomorrow at my local Game X-Change. if the graphics are 8 out of 10 for final fantasy standard then it must be pretty darn good.

Well...hmmm... how do I explain. Most people hate FF9. They think it's kind of a childish game.I gave it a 8/10. It's not perfect. It gets a decent rating.

FF11 I wouldn't recommend at all because of it's akward way of playing. I hear once you get into it and level up, it becomes more entertaining but, Honestly, I dont recomend.

11 just looks weird to me. personally i can't stand online games, especially when you have to rely on other people. i like to be in control of the whole party.

Online gaming should be kept away from RPG's. I think that it's a better idea to leave Online Gaming to all the sports and shooter games.

FF11. Is probably the worst FF.

no, i haven't. X started it all for me on accident one day and i fell in love with the genre. played a little bit of VII but never finished it.

If the budget is low, I recommend playing the second half of FF7 over the entire FF9. I love FF7 if you haven't already noticed.:p

So how far did you get in the game before you stopped?

not far enough. it was years ago and i started playing it at a friends house. stayed up playing it all night which must have been about 8 hours straight. then that guy moved, i didn't have a playstation at the time, and when i got one that just wasn't one of the games i got. was never really an rpg junkie until X turned me on to them for the PS2. now it's my favorite genre and i want to go back and play some of the classics.

Just between us. I recommend using Cloud, Vincent and Red 13 as your "Dream Team". Cloud is already in your team. Vincent has such a cool story and definatel yone of the coolest characters of all time.

And Red 13....OMG...RED 13...MY FAVORITE VIDEO GAME CHARACTER OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!

HE is so awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!! The way you find him is so cool.

He has in my opinion the coolest Limit Break of all the limit breaks in the game. I think it even tops Cloud's Omnislash. (which BTW is such a bit** to get)

He's overall the coolest the easiest to level up and honestly the best character.

I already bought FF8.:) I still need to open it up and play it though. I've got other games to take care of. Like for example I'm still not done woth kOTOR 1 and 2 which BTW I recommend if you haven't played it already.

Ahh GTA SA. I was barely re-playing the game. IMO, this probably the easiest of all the GTA games. It's cooler, it has more features, it's larger, but it's easy.

I love just stealing the cop bikes and like drive-bing anybody in site.:lol:

Darkseid, you'll love FF8. It's a fantastic game. I love the magic system. If you actually take the time to get a good start, it's possible to have over 2000 hp two hours into the game. I love it. However, my favorite part doesn't start until disk 3. Esthar to the end is the best!

I am being honest. Back in school the i.t. teacher was always out smoking or something he let us do whatever we wanted to do. We all played Counter Strike the whole class and i got good at it.

I loved 1 on 1 grudge matches though. I havnt played in a couple of years though

Resident evil 1,2 i never really got into 3 though for some reason. I also played code veronica.

Resident Evil 1 was my favorite though. It really did change the game in terms of the way games could get made etc. It truly was an innovator

Resident Evil 2 was IMO the second best Resident Evil game. Resident Evil 4 has definetly taken over the seires. It's such an amazing game with possibly the best graphics.

I just love the story of Claire and his brother and Leon. God I die each time I play the game cause it's so cool.

Veronica was good but I got stuck in a far point in the game when you put in the ant in the musicbox. The cd I had must've had a glitch caus eit didn't open up the door.:\

I love RPG's ... but am horrible at 1st person shooters. My brother has the new Times Splitters game, and I'm still hesitating about giving it a try. He said there's a lot of comic relief.

Yep. I found it a very amusing game. For some reason, I found beating bosses incredibly easy, although there are some I've had a lot of trouble defeating, or never have :

Olympus Coliseum Cups
Kurt Zisa
Phantom
Evil Rikku ( in Hollow Bastion)

Let's just say I have problems beating bosses whenever Donald and Goofy have abandoned me. I don't remember why, but I temporarily stopped playing at some point, saved at the point of no return. I wanted to train a whole lot before going through the pink door. Anyways, while I was watching the 3rd season finale of Smallville, one night (I was incredibly psyched), my 7 year old brother ran up to me screaming : COME QUICK, I BEAT THE GAME!

Turns out I missed the last 5 mins of Smallville : the most crucial scenes. My friend made fun of me the next day, saying :
" Whoa! You missed a whole lot of stuff! Clark was naked! "

AND I missed the first 5 minutes of the ending of KH...

So you never beat Kurt Zisa eh? He's a hard one but I eventually took him down. You have to use the summons if you want to survive against this guy. He gets real hard near the end. The phantom is also a bit tricky.

But I think Sephiroth is the hardest to beat. He's almost impossible even at level 100. Evil Rikku I thought was easy as lonmg as you kept moving and gliding.

So what was your favorite summon?

Hmm... my favorite summon? Well, I didn't use summons often, but I'd have to say Dumbo, or Mushu.

Dumbo : attacking the jumping mushrooms are fun!
Mushu : it's like using a gun, only it's a dragon!

What was your favorite part of the game? I loved Hollow Bastion. I just don't know if it was the background story... or the background music.

Everything about Halloween Town was like a dream come true when the game barely came out. I'm personally fascinated with Tim Burton and his genius way of coming up with alternate realities.

Halloween Town was definately my favorite. Though I do like being able to hear cloud and Yuffie talk. O and Aeris!

My favorite team? Oh, dear... I think it was Cloud, Aeris and Vincent. Well, those are my favorite characters. Whether or not I actually fought with these three, I remember not. I think I replaced Aeris with Tifa or Yuffie.

Resident Evil in my mind was like the transition point from you know regular like T rated to Mature rated games. That was like the first game I played with an M rating.

It was such a good game and overall a good series. It never ever got old or boring. I could re-play and re-play it and it would never get old on me.

Nah I think they should keep Metal Gear as a game. They usually destroy long lasting good stories by making the games into movies.

I would never buy a gamecube just for 1 game. Thats being a bit harsh the zelda games look good and mario is always good but i still wouldnt get a gamecube. Once the psx came out nintendo never got a look in

My dad bought me the nintendo 64. Goldeneye was a classic back then as was mario fzero and banjo kaz? along with perfect dark. Other than that it was a crap machine

I loved the Banjo Kazooie. That was my fav game when I was a kid and I also loved playing Resident Evil 2 on the N64.

I'm going to buy Gamecube for my birthday in October to get. Mario Tennis, Resident Evil 4, and Starfox Assault.

I remember he brought Banjo Kazooie home. I thought it was gonna be crap. I was surprised at how good it was. It was a classic game.

As for Xenosaga, I quit playing it in the final area. For some reason everything was whippin' my ass.

Goldeneye on N64 rocks but I think we can all agree that Halo (and more recently Halo 2) is the best first-person shooter in history. I personally love my X-Box. Fable is a fantastic game. It's only too short if you don't take your time. I got to go to Witchwood before I ever went Bowerstone. Just take your time, do all the optional missions, and you'll be ok.

I got MGS: Twin Snakes last summer. It was a good remake. I loved the mechanics of Sons of Liberty, but it didn't work quite right in Twin Snakes. It didn't feel quite natural.

I was a bit of both but I'll be honest, I had Sega before I had Nintendo.

I used to love playing Sonic and all those other cool games.

Banjo Kazzoie was a classic.

Yeah at the end of Xenosaga everything was just hard as hell!!! Everything was killing me. They're good. I like Sons of Lyberty it was a good game.

I dont know about Halo being the best FPS. Halo 2 sucked with it's huge maps. It was pretty bad. I like Counterstrike over Halo big time.

I was a Sega and Nintendo guy. I loved Zelda on Super Nintendo (which was my first sytem ever). I also had a Sega. I loved playing Sonic. Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine was a fantastic game and hard as balls to beat.

In Goldeneye, I was never able to beat the Aztec level. It just kept pissin' me off. But my friend beat everything in just the right way to get all the other Bonds (Connery, Moore, Lazenby, and Dalton). I loved that game. I played the bajeezus out of it.

As much as I love Goldeneye, Halo is better. I'm not really an X-Box guy. I only own three games, but I love Halo. I haven't played my GameCube in months. I'm bored with everything I've got.

Still, RE4 is like the best game available for Gamecube. It's all over the net. RE4 has revolutionized and definately gained back some lost Gamecube fans like yourself.

I know that, but most of the people who now play RE4 had never ever played any other RE games. It's just a plain old good game.

It got a rating of 9.6 out of 10 by 3 different websites dude. You should at least rent it and give it a shot.

personally i love my gamecube. i'm also not into the re4 game or any of the R.E games. but re4 is very well done. the gamecube is a fantastic little machine. chris you are right on the money about fable being too short. i'm curious though did you go through as a goody goody or were you totally evil with the horns growing out of your head? and i thought that it had already been established that half-life 2 is the be all end all of fps.

The first time I played through the game I was evil. I took the Sword of Aeons at the end of the game.

The second time through, I was good. It was a heck of a whole lot harder.

I played Half-Life 2 at my friend's house over Christmas break and I thought it was terrible. The graphics were bad and the controls were clunky.

It's just your always playing the good character and when you have the chance to use the bad side, it's so much more fun.

I think it works that way for everything. If I could use Sephiroth for example, hot damn that'd be cool.

that is definitely the case in KOTOR i played through it first trying to max out the light side points and that was fine and dandy until i got to Darth Malak. He was hard as heck to beat whilst being good. however when i replayed the game as totally on the dark side the game was much more fun and beating malak at the end was a breeze.

i haven't played 2 yet, played through one twice and am currently working on the third. seems like each time i play through i find all kinds of sidequests that i missed the time before. i'm putting off playing 2 until it goes on the Xbox platinum hits list. yeah, i'm a cheapskate.

I'm a fan of Great Gospel. It took me a long as Buddha time to get too. That's what hyper and manipulate are for! I had everyone's second level three limit break before I ever went to Nibelheim.

I like Red 13's Limit Break Cosmo Energy where he howls, and then like a big light from like the sky comes out and just blasts the crud out of the enemy. A definite keeper I would say.:lol:

There's this one move in FF8 that's pretty awesome. It's called Devour. You have to use it to max out your stats without gaining exp, which you have to keep your levels as low as possible to do well in the game. It says, "Censored! Please stand by!" and shows a field of flowers.

I sure was. I personally found Ruby pretty easy. I did it was a trick, though. Well, it wasn't really a trick. Make sure Barret has regen on, have his Missing Score equipped, and put all counter-attack materia on him. With that weapon equipped, he'll counter once for every materia equipped.

This only works with Barret. I tried with other people. No luck.

You should have him dead in three or four rounds.

Nah I think the best strategy is going in with two people already dead and then reviving them using phoenix, and then just clobbering him.

It's easy and fun. Cloud, Vincent, and Red13 kill him in like 2 turns no problem.

The thing about Vincent is I don't like to lose control of players. If I use him and he limit breaks, I have to kill him off just to get control of him again.

Well yeah that sux, but if you do the frankenstein limit break, he can do a kind of Omnislash exept it's 5 slashes rather than 18, but, he can keep doing it. So in time he can create incredible damage.

Yep, my friend paid I believe about a 1000 $ to have this version. I'm not sure where he got it though.

Aeris dying is symbolic. She's not supposed to come back from the dead.

I used a GS to keep her until the end and she never came out of my part to talk, never got any new weapons, she was stuck in your party and couldn't be removed, and you couldn't use her in the last battle.

Since I was catching up...KOTOR I loved...I played dark side first then light side. Apparently if you had Destroy Droid on the light side then Malak was a lot easier, that was the only way to blow up the stasis fields for those bodies that Malak drains.

In FF7--I had a friend that would always Berserk Vinny and leave him that way. He loved having him out of control. My friend was a nut man :lol:

Has any one played God of War? With out a doubt the most brutal, bloddy game I have ever played. And very very very fun.
It deserves its M rating. The graphics are awesome. The story line is good and the fight moves are out of this world. It is the only game I have played where you can get mad and vent your rage on some mob all in one minute.

It definately looked like there was an Oedipal complex working there with Sephiroth and Jenova. That always creeped me out just a bit.

A robot? No. She was like the Crystaline Entity. She happened to meet her fate on the planet. I mean, the Cetra even said it was a "Calamity from the Skies." They killed it and stuck it in the ground.

Jenova was an evil entity left over from the creation of the universe. That's in a book at the bottom of the Shinra Mansion. It followed the Cetra across the galaxy to feed off of them.

Well obviously not having THAT kind of a relationship, but Sephiroth had this thing with Jenova, it was like a love realtionship. Kind of like a Sadist with Pain. It cant love with it, but pain brings pleasure to them.

That's my thought. Jenova definetly is not a living thing but the thing between Sephiroth and Jenova is not Parental Love.

The thing that I find most intriguing about the entire storyline is how religion kind of still exists within that futuristic life.

For some reason, I didn't like 8 (I only played it for a total of 1 hour!). It was too serious, for me.

That's probably why I temporarily quit X-2. I was near the end of the game... and only had 64% done. I missed out on a lot of stuff... and percentages freak me out.

So I thought that it'd be cool if instead of having Simba come out of Pride Rock and do his thing as a summon, they'd have Red 13 come out and look out to Midgar as one of the summons for Kingdom Hearts.

I was playing Resident Evil 4 at my friends house today, it truly is a work of art. Leon Kennedy has matured so much and the game is an absolute marvel.

I recommend this game to anybody who owns a Gamecube. This game is ranked the best horror game of all time and with 9.6/10 rating, it promises a great time with great graphics and definetly great storyline.

No I just checked some sources, the realease date for FF12 hasn't even been released, I'm guessing it'll come out at the same time Kingdom Hearts 2 comes out.

Squarenix will try and hit a jackpot with these two. My guess is, They'll release FF12 between October and November and Kingdom Hearts 2 during Christmas time.

KH1 was released on 15 of December, the perfect time for selling it. Maybe that's half of why it was such a huge success.

That's what differiantiates the FF series from other RPG's.

It's okay I guess. I'm re-playing FF10 and having some trouble with those annoying puzzle things at the temples. I really hate those things.

One thing I'd like to say about 10 is, I absolutely loved the new form of building up stats. The whole sphere and nodes deal is truly a time saver.

yeah, i liked the sphere node in ten a lot better than the level up system in ten-2. don't know why they had to try and fix something that wasn't broken. i remember those puzzles giving me a fit the first few times i tried them. once you figure out what you are supposed to do you feel like an idiot for not getting it immediately.

I was playing X-2, and I was in this huge maze thingy in Bevelle. I think it had more than 100 levels, or something like that. I lost against the second boss in there... *sigh*

I liked the sphere nod in FFX, but it was kind of weird. Everyone could have the same moves (minus the special abilities) and the weakest character could become the strongest. That's why, for some reason, I loved fighting with the three girls.

But, after playing X-2... I realized something... I miss the guys. :(

I'm not sure, but I THINK my brother won it, at some point, but I'm not sure whether or not it is actually a usable weapon...

There are so many rumors about that game. I remember seing my brother run in and out of the church over and over again, trying to reach ghost Aeris before disappearing. He never got her. However, he did get her through gameshark.. but it made the game incredibly glitchy. My favorite code was the unlimited LIMIT. All you had to go was hold the 4 top buttons, and the gauges would fill up. Omnislash was excrutiatingly fun to do, at that point.

But yeah you have to do a lot of sh** to get the Marasume Blade but, you can use it. It's so crazy you have to beat all 5 weapons!!!

It's kinda tricky but it can happen.

Well Adam what can I say....FF7 ....is FF7 :rotfl::lol:

The marasume blade is quite possibly the hardest object I ever had to get in a game, and quite pssibly the coolest of all the objects ever atained in the entire FF Series.

It has a rather cool look to it. But I will say this, when using the marasume blade with Cloud, it does not look like Sephiroth's. Sorry :)

But Vincent's looks alot like Squall's gunblade. It's very coolio.:D

I was an okay game. I hated playing FF 8. The character Squall was boring and utterly annoying. I never quite finished playing the game cause it was so bad.

Oh speaking of G4 yesterday, I was watching last night and the show Cheat came on. First off, they are using eye candy as a hostess :lol:. They were going over God of War. If you do not want to know how to beat a game completely then do not watch this show...good God, they go through everything completely.

i love KOTOR i'm playing 2 right now. the stories are great in both games. i'm sure that it helps that i'm a huge star wars fan as well but i still prefer the final fantasy experience as far as RPG's go.

I'd say normal. About 40 hours if you wanna get somewhat good.

Battlefront was one of the biggest dissapointments. It was so boring after the second day.

I think everybody does. It's going to be so awesome. I hope like that like in the original tactics, Cloud comes out as a secret character. That would be so cool.
