Here you go, Teen Chef. Now we can all talk about Red Dwarf all we like. I know there are other fans of the show on the board. :)

I think you're missing the really big issue here, Huffy, and that's what we should name this thread.
How about the Community of Largely Intelligent Terrans Organized for RedDwarf Internet Socialization?

I love Red Dwarf! Is there any news if there is going to be a new season or not? I see Lister on Robot Wars all the time.

Craig Charles has just finished filming the seventh series of Robot Wars.
As for a new series, there won't be a new one until after the Red Dwarf movie, which is all written and ready to be produced. The difficult part was finding a time when all the actors would be available to start filming, so it's now filming's been put back to May 2004, they say it will be released world-wide, which should be cool. And there may be another series after the film, if the film does well. It's kind of a wait and see thing.
But they are releasing all the series on DVD now. You can now buy series 1-3. :)

The first few years are funny and all, but I like the later ones with Cochanski(sp?).
As for the movie, I hope it comes out in the U.S., because there is a huge cult following of the show here.

I really couldn't stand the new Kochanski. She really, really annoyed me. I much rather prefered Claire Grogan as Kochanski, than Chloe Annett. They wanted to get Claire Grogan back, but she was busy with other projects at the time. I found Chloe's Kochanski to be annoying and harsh. But I have really liked her in other roles she's played.
I loved the tacky look of the earlier series, I'm not sure if I could pick a favourite one. But it certainly wouldn't be one of the later. It just hasn't been as good as it's been in the past in the later series, IMO.

Well, I may be a bit biased being male and all, but Chloe Annett in red leather holds a certain appeal.;)
As for her Kochanski being more harsh and annoying, remember, she was stranded from her reality and thrust in with these goofballs. I'd be harsh in the same situation, too.

It's just that previously she'd seemed like a nicer more patient character, is all.

I'd like to see all the episodes, but I don't know if I'd want to buy a DVD of it. It is good, but can get really dirty at times. I'm surprised that PBS plays them.

I much, much preferred Claire Grogan. Most (okay, all) of the other male US fans I've met really didn't care much for either Kochanski. The only other US fan of the character was a woman, and she liked Claire Grogan, too.
I don't think Chloe Annett had much chemistry with the other actors ... but that could have been an odd-(wo)man out syndrome. Anybody who comes to an ensemble cast after over half a decade is going to lag a little bit in blending in. Unless, y'know, she's a polymorph.
But they're all British girls. So it's a no-lose situation as far as I'm concerned. ;)

i LOVE Red Dwarf! I can't wait to see the movie, although i really hope they don't use too many computerised images, like in the last series, i preferred it when the effects were a bit cheesy!!!!! :)

Same here, I loved the models they used and the tacking sets. *giggle* It was part of it's charm.

Or muffins! Or muffins! We don't like muffins around here! We want no muffins, no toast, hotcakes, no buns, baps, baguettes or bagels, no croissants, no crumpets, no pancakes, no potato cakes and no hot-cross buns and definitely no smegging flapjacks!

"How'm I lookin'? Goooood! How'm I lookin' now? STILL good!"
My brother went as Cat to help with a PBS fund-raising drive once. But as he's as white as Al Gore and not quite slender, it wasn't a very convincing likeness.
Disturbingly, he ended up dating a white female Cat from the same fund-raiser. It was worse than when Dog wanted to take turns sniffing butts.

I've been partying pretty hard on the weekends the last couple of years, so I don't know if Red Dwarf is even shown on PBS anymore.
I'll have to check it out this Saturday.

Look's like the movies a least 1 year away (From filming) or maybe never. :(
because Craig Charles has signed up for Corriation Street (UK soap) for 6 months possibly longer.

Any Red Dwarf fans out there? We're getting the first part of Red Dwarf: Back to Earth in the UK tonight. It's been a long time since we've had anything new, so it's good to see it back.
There's actually already a thread - http://www.kryptonsite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3323
But I'm sure they'll merge them. Anyway, not impressed so far. We've waited nine years for this? Seems a little forced, and missing the laughter track. Still, two and a half episodes to go...

Thanks for the link, I didn't look that far back.
Usually I have a moan about laughter tracks but I'm noticing its absense in this episode a bit too much. Not particularly impressed with having adverts in RD either, feels a bit weird.
----- Added 4 Minutes later -----
There's quite a bit of obvious CGI going on too
No need to look for shows, there's a stickied thread that has links to all the shows covered here.
The CGi was woeful, I know they don't have the sets now but far too much green screen.
I'm just so disappointed. Never expected it to be anything massively special, but I think this was worse than anything in series 7. And that's saying something.

Completely agree. I was really disappointed. The only things that got a hint of a laugh out of me were the postcard and the 'bit crap' jokes, and they were probably forced because I so wanted it to be funny.
I just hope this was all to set up the other episodes.

I do find it interesting with British television that they can go so many years between episodes... I wish American TV did the same thing. A few new extra episodes every few years.
Woulda beaten a theatrical movie in the X-Files' case, that's for sure.
Oh come on Craig, the last X Files film WAS a tv show really, just shown in theatres ;)
I think it's down to our less rigid non-"seasonal" approach. Because shows aren't shown September - May (mostly, as in your case) there's no "normal" time when a show is due. Red Dwarf just never really got cancelled, it was always "coming back". Just the BBC didn't want it, and then the attempts to make a theatrical movie came to nought (though in this case, again that's not dead and still may happen). and the cast had drifted elsewhere.
Also, the producers owned the rights to the show when I think in your case it's the networks or the studios who own them. Grant Naylor productions made this reunion show themselves and shopped it to whoever would buy it - in this case, a TV channel which (and believe me, this is true) is called "Dave". They show the re-runs of Dwarf, and they get respectable viewing figures so obviously it was worth it for them to buy airing rights for it.
We don't very often have shows return though, in fairness. I can think of Who (another one that was never actually "cancelled") and Dwarf, and another isn't springing to mind to be honest.
^ So you didn't watch the new jonathan creek that aired on the 1st of jan then? :)
The new RD wasn't so bad, in my humble opinion. Though I really wish we'd had the full half hour instead of shoving adverts in the middle. And did they have to kill off kochanski and holly?

Wasn't Coupling Season 4 a few years after the third? And didn't they take a break with Absolutely Fabulous?
What about that show with the three old men that's been on since like 1970?
What about that show with the three old men that's been on since like 1970?
That show you're talking about is 'last of the summer wine', and yes they do occasionally take a break of a year or so, but its not really the same as being cancelled/put on hold and revived like doctor who.
Didn't the dick van dyke show come back years later for one special episode?
Ab Fab anD Jonathan Creek, yeah I'd go with them. Last of the Summer Wine though, as Pesk says, never normally goes more than a year without new shows. The Likely Lads came bAck, that'd be another one. Coupling didn't seem to have a massive wait though from what I remember - certainly didn't notice if it did.
I seem to remember Dallas coming back a couple of times, and didn't Dynasty too? What's happening with Dwarf is more similar to that sort of thing. Ooh, and Futurama.
KSiteTV
04-11-2009, 11:17 AM
The Dallas and Dynasty situations were just for TV movies... not regular-length episodes or seasons/series. Same with the Futurama DVD's.
The only really successful TV revival continuing a show that was canned for a few years here, I think, was Family Guy.
That's what Red Dwarf is Craig, it's three special episodes which by the looks of it should have been a movie that's just been split up and being shown over the three nights of the Easter Weekend. Next one's in an hour.
Well, episode 2 was a lot better - as long as you forget it's Red Dwarf. Some genuinely funny stuff, though SFX doing lifestyle pieces? No thanks! ;)

Hey just be glad you got to watch it! Don't know if it'd ever make it's way to me in Canada.
Part 2 scared me. It was being taken in a totally different direction to the red dwarf we know and love, smashing the 4th wall to pieces.
But part 3 totally made up for that. The fact that it was all a hallucination from another dispair squid was the perfect way to explain the events of the last 2 episodes. And seeing lister meet craig charles, well that was just insane.
Plus the sneaky smegheads brought kochanski back! All the spoilers and rumours I'd found told me she wouldn't be appearing, but there she was at the end. And we finally got a proper ending to the show, ok so they didn't really go back to earth, but it was an emotional ending, with lister vowing to find kochanski again.
All in all, speaking as someone who loved the original show, I wasn't disappointed with back to earth. It really felt like it was made for the fans, all 3 parts were choc full of references to past episodes, and we finally got some real closure.
